+11111111111111111111 What a lovely backstory. I find those that include a 'defining moment from the past' the best kind, and this application shows that this moment doesn't need to involve death to be interesting. I love love love this character already, the scientific background for her culinary pursuits, totally someone NT would employ. Furry's really done his research with this app, namely on Skrell lore, and I can't wait to see it shine through his roleplay. I think it's really admirable that he rates himself so frankly, and I have no doubt playing a Skrell and focusing on arpee rather than game mechanics will boost his arpee ability vastly.

Loow is a lovely person OOCly - understanding, cooperative, mediating, never hostile or passive aggressive. I have recently got the pleasure to interact and plot with many of his characters. The depth into which he goes with each one is astonishing. I have found that how 'loud' a character of his is does not correlate in any way to how developed they are. Try making arpee with his quieter ones, e.g. Teresa Vasquez, and you'll uncover carefully crafted hidden depths. I also greatly admire his perfect balance of being invested in each character, and viewing them as creative tools. He cares about them and their development enough to make their speech and emotes really come from the heart, and yet he is completely okay with placing them in situations that might threaten them, and constructive criticism, and everything like that. To me he is a shining example of a player. You also might think, hm, didn't he make an IPC app reeeeeally recently? Well, the fact is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that: in that short time he's had his IPC, he has managed to create brilliant, meaningful arpee and interactions between many members of the crew, Glamour's Zinaida and my Loreili included. Practically a new record, if you ask me. I believe he is more than capable of playing a Skrell, and inspiring others to do so with his great arpee. +1.

I 100% agree with what Frances said. Not only that, but you play during dead hour, and that's sought after. I would have to say, though, try not to swear as much. It makes everyone think you're a lot more hostile than you are. I think you'd be a brilliant addition to the mod team.

I've been thinking about making this thread for a while. This is a thread for those who: are Meowy have too many characters to fit in their setup and need a good spring clean. have too many character ideas than they know what to do with. are stuck for character ideas. are bored with their own characters. want others to play characters that they themselves want to interact with, e.g. family members, figures from their past. want to play someone's neglected side character. The idea, then, is to: post here with the character(s) you don't mind letting other people play, using the template below. wait for a response, either by this thread or PM or whatever else. decide whether or not you want to let that person play the character. update your advertisement accordingly. notify the person of this, and let them know any Character Setup things, details, or development you wish to conserve. Here is the template: Player Key: Character Name: Character Age: Occupation(s): Description: Available: Y/N The description field can be as long or short as you like. Recommended information to put in there includes appearance and/or flavourtext, personality, and direction of development. DISCLAIMER: This system operates on a sort of trust exercise. Theoretically, you could give someone a character, and have the person totally change who they are, in your eyes. They could even end up neglecting them, too, and not putting them back on to adoption after they're done. The risk of this is undeniable. Therefore, keep this in mind when giving away a character; if you are even slightly attached to them, seeing them go in a completely different direction may result in negative feelings. I hope this thread fulfils its purpose. Happy Adoptions, everyone~

Swat43's Head whitelist App.
Crescentise replied to swat43's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I have a slight issue with this application, sorry. It may just be a fluffy 'eh' excuse, but... I'm being as honest as I can. I just... don't feel like Fortune is suitable for RD. This immature feeling emanates from her. Cecilia Lambert, you could say, has a slightly childlike excitement about Science, but she's still professional. I wish I had the logs - I'm pretty sure I did, but it's mysteriously and infuriatingly disappeared - but very recently Fortune welded someone into a locker because she was insulted; she even admitted this over comms. This is like, classic Angry Engineer behaviour, and certainly not the behaviour you'd expect from a prospective RD. This feels like an Informed Ability (see Informed Ability entry in TVTropes). It certainly seems like she knows the ins and outs of robotics, but there's nothing in her backstory about her education and the minimum single PhD she's supposed to have, or her skill with The Scientific Method rather than just stuff about synthetics. There have been lots of times where there has been no R&D staff in Science, but Fortune is a Roboticist. In these situations, I never see her go to the HoP and ask for access to R&D, say, to heroically uphold the department while it is understaffed, hell, even to get Research levels up for her own benefit. I don't see her regularly as a Scientist, either. I have occasionally seen her as xenobio, which she only seems to pick if the Roboticist slots are taken. Where are her credentials for xenobio? I feel like credentials matter the most in the department of Science, put it that way. Perhaps that's why few people play it these days. I don't know if I'm being too harsh, or something, but... I can't endorse this application while I get these feelings. -
Araskael's Unathi Application
Crescentise replied to Araskael's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I have not interacted with any of your characters, sadly, so I will be judging you on the quality of the application. Your answers to the questions are articulate and thoughtful, which is pleasing and shows you are serious about playing an Unathi. You say that you have played this character before, and that you know her well. Due to this, I could definitely see you becoming a familiar face on the station - one that is very fresh, too, being a red female Unathi amputee - should your whitelist be accepted. This personally makes me very happy because you being on the station would mean its population would tend to my ideals of diversity. Therefore, I would happily give this application a +1... ... However, there's just a couple of things I'd ask you to clarify. For one, why would NanoTrasen accept a disabled person with a clearly defined criminal record? It's worth justifying this somehow in the backstory section. Perhaps, aside from murder, it was all minor fluff crimes that were exaggerated to her detriment because of female prejudice. Maybe she was framed for the murder, or was merely an accessory to the crime that took the fall for the real culprit. Who knows, what if there's someone looking out for her in a corrupt fashion on the inside of NT bureaucracy. The second thing I'd recommend, is to mention somehow what roles she will be taking on the station, e.g. cargo technician, botanist. Not only will this give us a better idea of what to expect, it will also generate favour for you if you give her appropriate roles for her experience (so far noted to be only civilian-level). In conclusion, I really want you on station! But just have a look at these things, yeah? Sorry for the constant editing, but standards here are pretty high; should you be accepted, you'll fit them, won't that make you feel happy? Yay!~ Note Addressed To mrimatool: Tool, I'm so dumb, I only just realised why my previous posts were deleted. Sorry for being dumb. -
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT SUBJECT. BECAUSE. Everywhere I've played has the style 'Overeye Long' except Aurora. Whyyy. We have Floorlength Braid, but not this?! I demand it be added! Also other hair styles are cool and stuff.

Hazeri Saakhat is my favourite Unathi that I've ever interacted with. He brings with him a slew of contributions to the lore, and deviates from the barbaric monkey-eating dicklizard stereotype. His backstory is highly complex and developed, and while it's fairly easy to wrench out some details (ideal for initial interactions), knowing his entire story is a welcoming challenge for the interested party. He opens up many situations for arpee, for example your OOC efforts with the Lab Assistant ad, and does not exhibit cliquey behaviour. And he is visually interesting on top of everything, having awesome-looking custom items he uses to great arpee and visual effect, and being the only Unathi I've ever seen who has frills. Overall, he's an absolutely brilliant character and would be The Counselor/Chaplain on my ideal crew manifest. With access to Chemistry. X-post from character feedback thread, so Haz's greatness can be etched everywhere that is appropriate~

X-Post from the Dionaea thread. Xenobio antag kidnaps Diona to study. Actually makes breakthrough while being hunted by sec. Ethical debate on whether or not to use findings. Fun!

That's why players do it for them, Hackie! The system is in place, as Skull said. People just need to be aware of it, and somehow be inspired/encouraged to contribute. I'll try writing something, maybe. c:

Cons, that's legitimately a great idea, in my opinion. A heist round where Vox literally take over the station. I feel like with enough ahelping to check if everything's okay, and players cooperating with the idea, it could be super fun.
-
I agree with Jakers. This would work brilliantly incorporated as a sort of summary of the race at the top of the entry. I honestly feel like there's no such thing as too much fluff when it comes to a race's wiki page, however, Sgt. In my opinion, it makes little sense that a highly developed and detailed lore would drive people away if a nice clear accessible summary-overview of the 'race' is provided as well. I'm promoting my way because it allows for both kinds of players - those who just want to make sense of what the race is and nothing more, and those who want to delve deeper and bring out the details of the race through arpee. Conspire, you as a pretty big fan and empathiser of Dionaea say that they're beyond classification, but that's not what humans think!! Humans would definitely be seeking to put them under labels and trace their metaphorical roots. If they had done so already, I feel like putting their taxonomy on the wiki page is only appropriate, and would match that of the Tajaran entry. Whereas if humans haven't figured it out already, this could be a major focus of xenobiologists bored with slimes. Xenobio antag kidnaps Diona to study. Actually makes breakthrough while being hunted by sec. Ethical debate on whether or not to use findings. Fun!

Ooh, yes. Cunabula is a good thing to add. Kudos to whoever did that on the Tajaran entry on our wiki (though why is it Ahdomaris instead of Adhomaris?). The only problem I see is that supposedly So what would one put under Cunabula for Dionaea? They must have had some celestial body, or area, of origin. So perhaps they have a name for the original star(s) they 'orbited'. What do you think, Conspire? If this can be figured out, then the lore team can progress towards having classifications for all the 'races'.
-
I had a nice constructive post to add to this thread but a broken preview ate it, so for now all I have to say is What redaction standard is there in place? Honest question here.
-
I am by no means an expert on Dionaea (or taxonomy for that matter, all info was taken from wikipedia), however, I see why you'd think that, Jakers, 'cause of what Conspire mentioned. However, the answer is a definite, resounding no, because of how biological classification works. Siphonophores (colonies of multiple organisms that are also defined as animals, as you will see in a second) are an order of... Hydrozoa(ns) (small, predatory water-dwelling organisms), which belong to the phylum... Cnidaria (a division of life forms containing cnidocytes), which belongs to the kingdom... Animalia, i.e. The Animal Kingdom. So, you see, the only way you'd be able to class Dionaea as Siphonophores would be if they were not only a colony of multiple organisms, but also if said organisms: a) Had cnidocytes. b) Were small, predatory, and water-dwelling.

Loow is a brilliant roleplayer! I had a very great round with him recently. His IPC idea is fun and fresh. +1 from me.

Staff Complaint, Dea Tacita, TishinaStalker.

I was basically too nervous to post here until Bokaza did. I agree with him. I'm aware that there have been past issues with, say, Xander and playing head positions - after they were whitelisted. And that's okay! Xander can still be head, and an arguably good one at that - people learn. It's okay to trust people with a whitelist. If you guys let Starfish have it, I personally would be very grateful. I'm pretty sure he knows what not to do after all of this warning, you can trust him. If not, and he starts regularly messing up, then take it away. I feel that it would become the massive issue it is now only at that time, and that there's little point making it so now as it appears to inhibit a very popular character's presence and arpee aboard the station. -
