Vaurca drones do not understand the concept of death nor pain. This is explicitly stated. Thus, they would not take action in self defense out of fear of being killed (whether this fear is justified by saying death would inhibit ability to serve), because they do not know they can be killed. I would argue that the logic of "I am being harmed, and harm will inhibit my ability to work, and my ability to work is directly correlated to my value as a worker" would be classified as a complex thought process, meaning that they would not arrive at that conclusion. Thus, yes, they are incapable of self defense unless ordered otherwise. Edit; In reply to Chaz, I would classify as returning to a superior for further clarification to be a complex thought process as well. If a person is actively inhibiting you from completing an assigned task (As in they are an obstacle) then that's different, and you technically should remove them in the most effective means possible, so that they do not further inhibit your task. (Since Vaurca drones don't understand the complexity of death, killing anyone that acts as an obstacle would be their go-to method, but doing that to the assistant who keeps disarm spamming you as you repair a door probably won't be looked upon too brightly)

This only really makes sense if we accept that you turn your radio headset on via a physical action (Such as pressing a button). This is the most popular scenario amongst roleplayers anyways, so I further add on to this suggestion that you should be unable to use your radio if your hand functions are inhibited, such as when you are handcuffed or if you are missing your hands.

I think making the content accessible and then making that system of accessibility easy to adapt to new works is more important than actually developing the content at this point, because until the directory is established the content is inaccessible (thus useless to the general playerbase) unless they know specifically what they are looking for.
-
The wiki sucks. Not because it doesn't have good content (It actually has very good content) but because this content is inaccessible unless you know what you're looking for specifically. The solution to this is quite simple; An actually functional, useful, and aesthetically pleasing main-page that serves as a comprehensive directory towards general topics. While having numerous in-depth articles about lore and systems is well and good its ultimately useless unless they are categorized in an efficient manner, and then made accessible without having to use the search bar.

I've always been a big proponent of game mechanics removing the need to trust playerbases (Which are volatile and constantly shifting). I cannot reasonably trust the playerbase to not metagame, nor can I trust the administration team to solve the issue of metagame permanently without great expense of effort which would detract from other administrative objectives. My suggestion would be as follows; Make it a binary vote, secret or extended. Equalize all gamemodes for the secret selection (Because as some people probably know, the 'random selection' is actual weighted in favour of certain gamemodes.) This thread is not to discuss removing Malf AI. I might keep extended in the secret rotation to further keep people on their toes, but ultimately I think this is a very good idea so long as we make every gamemode option equally weighted in the secret rotation.

Yeah, but don't circlejerks make you go blind? Or is that just masturbation full stop?

ReBranded Player Complaint: PootisManiac
LordFowl replied to UnknownMurder's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Security officers are meant to be professionals, yet we have two who seems to always execute the antagonist no matter the situation, to play around with antagonist gear, and when there is no antagonist revealed beat each other up and often get brigged or demoted. "Just trying to take your nuts, fam." -
So a while back I had an idea on improving the wizard role a bit, and that was a chameleon kit that function as wizard clothes, so wizard aesthetic could be more diverse. Here I have another idea that is more of a mechanical improvement, and it follows as such; For the spell blink and teleport (Notice that it excludes ethereal jaunt), if the wizard has an aggressive grab on a mob, that mob will teleport with them. And it's about that simple. You can abduct people, or show baldie assistants the world, or whatever. Side idea; if anyone has an aggressive grab on the wizard or on the mob the wizard has an aggressive grab on, they too are teleported. (Inb4 security starts to 'conveniently' happen to aggressive grab all wizards.)

Also, it is in the lore that cloning itself degenerates the genome, meaning you can only be cloned x number of times before you become a gibbering mess, which I imagine would only compound with the intense radiation doseages you've accumulated. This does raise an interesting point. If cloning is just rebuilding you off of your genetic data, why doesn't it keep genetic mutations like hulk or telekinesis? And if it does, then it's not a solution at all.

What it says on the tin folks. Currently you can just cuff poor old Baldie Mcgriff, drag him to a locker, handgrab him and chomp away without fear of being discovered except by freak accident. For a bite so powerful that it breaks bones and delimbs and even gibs, you'd expect it to make a noise. We have plenty of bite noises in the database, so it shouldn't be to difficult.

Player complaint: Stephieee and PootisManiac
LordFowl replied to Ove's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I don't typically get involved with these complaints, but what Rin stands out to me as an extremely biased person towards changelings. Her player character clearly, whenever there's even a hint of changelings involved in a round, goes to full validhunt mode. I purposefully didn't spectate this round when I saw that Rin was on the case with changelings, and did some other things. I will provide some clarification concerning the other incident, however. The changeling was held in communal, and the security team was deliberately feeding it monkeys that it turned into humans. (The behaviour of changelings turning monkeys into humans and then absorbing them is questionable, but neither here nor there.) When the changeling finally went hostile (Who could've known, when you'd fed it all those monkeys?) it had plenty of points, but didn't actually kill anyone. Alberyk's character managed to gun it down to critical, and it was forced to revive itself. While it did so, the security team put the changeling into a straitjacket and moved it to solitary. After everyone had left solitary, Rin convinced two of her buddies, for no discernible reason other than to kill the antag that was detained securely, to do the following; They threw a flashbang into the cell, then they tasered the changeling, then they ran up to it and flashed it, backed away, ran back up to it and stunned it, cuffed it, put it in a straitjacket, buckled it to the bed, ganged around it and harmbattoned it to death, and dragged it into maintenance despite clear indication from other involved security members that what they were doing was wrong. Rin then dragged it into the command access with nothing but an oxygen mask, and proceeded to vent the maintenance tunnel by opening both airlocks at the same time. She was pushed over by airflow, then stood back up, drag the changeling and threw them into space. By the time she had gotten back to safety her medic hud marked her in the orange-yellow state. As if that charade wasn't bad enough, when she was fired and imprisoned for that she tried her hardest to validhunt and convinced others to validhunt the remaining changeling, lobbying to no end for the head of security to murderkill them. -
Zultar Karjei, a photorealistic representation that is quite accurate.

...But it is relevant, because it's exosuit weaponry we're talking about, which relies on mech computers. ...But it is irrelevant, because if for the purpose of the mechanically implementation being suggested the removal of the non-present mech computers is required, then such is easily achieved by a variety of means, which may be suggested in parallel. (In fact, there are already some suggestions of that nature.) Getting hung up on the mech computers is a particular waste of time, considering.
-
The fact that exosuit weaponry currently relies on mech computers or what not is irrelevant. Totally and completely irrelevant. The suggestion is about whether or not it would be cool, 'fair', and useful for Unathi to be able to use exosuit weaponry and tools. If it is decided that it would be, then the plausibility can be achieved by modifying how exosuit weaponry works however we please. I personally think it would be awesome if an Unathi could wield exosuit weaponry, so long as it is distinctive and discernible from typical weaponry. If achieving that means we have to slightly modify how exosuit weaponry works in the first place, then that is A-Okay. This is the suggestions board. (But we really don't, because its not defined. We just assume that things aren't there because there is no code to manipulate it)

What does it look like when one of these "drunk drivers" bluespace directly into the building? How catastrophic is the impact?
-
Maximus Crane looks like Natalie Portman except missing two legs, sixty or so years older, much paler, with more wrinkled skin, a slouched forehead and a larger nose that is slightly asymmetric, not to mention more pursed lips, larger ears, a receding hairline, a birthmark on the right buttock shaped like the commonwealth of Massachusetts, grey hair, a less toned chest/sternum, an ulcer, flaring nostrils, and also a man.

I recall that a rather handsome young gentleman suggested a modification for the break room some months ago. Let me see if I can find it . .. Ah! Here you are: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3568 The fact that the psychiatrist is destitute and absurdly useless is to me a more pressing matter than slight inefficiency in surgical operation during emergency situations. We have an entire role that is essentially nothing but jacking off in a broom closet stuffed away in the back of medical.

Rocks are already an in game item, I do believe. It'll have to be "large stone" or perhaps "hand-held boulder"

Bump, so that it doesn't get shoved into the second page. please notice me senpai(jackboot)

Instead of a UI, make it recognize speech like the Lawmaker, so that the antag has to verbally give out the commands.
-
Or it could be ridiculous uncomplicated. We don't know, and there is no way to know, so we must discard it from our argument; whether or not it is is unprovable and thus irrelevant.
-
If we're going to start messing with character creation we might as well also remove the pesky feature of not being able to put numbers inside of names.

Except protopistols are arguably the most powerful weapon that RnD can make? Anyways, I still say that while the idea of regulating what RnD can and cannot make is a good idea, lockboxes specifically are dumb. They're almost ridiculous in how they break the immersion, even further bastardizing the idea of RnD actually doing research instead of just printing out stuff. Since we've revived this thread, I revive the idea of blacklists; the RD and Captain have access to a computer that controls what categories the research department can make items from. It would work like this: The RD sets weapon research to blacklist. No items utilizing weapons research as a requirement can be made. The RD sets weapon research to monitor. Items utilizing weapons research as a requirement can be made, but when they are made is recorded on the computer (It could also be possible to require the RnD computer itself to require an ID card for monitored research, and then the overwatch computer could also record the IDs that make said items.) This solves the problem of immersion (Because it is ridiculous to imagine the research device spitting out everything in neatly id-locked boxes), and actually is less draconian than ID boxes, which means it is less obtrusive to research. The RD simply has to disable weapons research being disabled by default if they want weapons research, and they can re-enable it at any time. Both the Captain and the RD have access to logs stating when weapons were made (and optimally who made them). This also means that RnD research is still viable for antagonists because all they have to do is break into the RD office (Potentially consideration of the RD Overwatch Terminal not being id-locked for this reason. Otherwise an emag would do it.) and they can make weapons once more. What if there is no RD? Then you'll have to consult with the captain. What if there is no captain? Then you'll have to consult with the Head of Personnel, who can access it if needed. What if there is no Head of Personnel? Then you'll have to consult with the AI, but they're under no obligation to let you just because you order them to. You'll notice the Head of Security is not mentioned here, nor the Warden. The Head of Security and especially the Warden should not have access to this device. While they could have access to the device that monitors who and when weapons were made, they should not under any normal operation be able to regulate what research can and cannot be made without additional access. They are security, not administration.

So, to clarify the reason why people mostly loved Frances modifications to Skrell and mostly dislike your modifications to Dionaea is because the Skrell lacked identity, and had some encumbersome features that made them ridiculous to roleplay as. The Dionaea have a very strong identity. Their identity is probably the strongest identity on the server. Your modifications do fix some of the encumbersome features of the Dionaea, and definitely expand on some of the more interesting concepts. My personal suggestion for writing this lore would not be so much as to focus on the why (Why were Dionaea created, why do they do what they do, and etcetera.) but rather focus history on what we would know (So mostly what Skrell would know, possibly collaborate with Ffrances. [because Dionaea don't write their own history, so they nor their players would know]), and then focus on how they do what they do. (I especially like your expansion upon the nymphs.) Ultimately, the issue with Dionaea is that they don't have a cultural identity, they lack societal standards, and thus they don't write their own history or even record their nature. Everything we know about them is through what other races canonically know about them. I would write the lore to reflect that, leaving plenty of ambiguity and even misdirection (So long as this misdirection does not actually interfere with how Dionaea are played).
