  1. Security is also probably the most 'stressful' department. Sure it can be a lot of fun, and loads of time to play hero legitimately, but it's the department that has to deal with rookies who don't know the RP style, (no paperwork to borg someone that asked) and griefers (which waste time for everyone). And we got so many cases floating around, security sometimes is too under-staffed to handle everything. As an HoS, you gotta coordinate everyone. Officers can get spat on, talked behind the back, insulted, and ridiculed - and there's very little they can do about it ICly. Officers are crew, but they can't retaliate like everyone else. What does a good officer do? Remember the security codes and patrol the station. You're at an automatic risk when only allowed a flash and cuffs. And always targeted first because you can be the most dangerous. Try to defend yourself more, and you'll be exceeding regulations. It's not easy to walk the delicate line.
  2. Back as HoS trainee Rose Watson, Dilgan and I were supposed to take a pair of mechs to cargo. Rose: Um....I've never driven a mech before... Dilgan: Oh don't worry. It's really easy. Rose: Okay... *climbs into mech* *Rose and Dilgan pilot the mech toward cargo* Dilgan: *hops out of the mech* See? Easy. Rose: Um....how do I eject? Dilgan: Hit eject on your screen. Rose: ....eh? *clicks the floor and drills a hole through the station* Dilgan: NO!! *runs out* Rose! turn on the mech's internals!! Rose: How do I do that?! Dilgan: You don't know!? Rose: No!! I told you, I never piloted a bloody mech before!! Nightmare: Wait. You really don't know? Nebula: No!! XD I never drove one of these things! I told you! Nightmare: I thought you meant ICly!! Neb: Well....I can't eject, and I don't know how to turn on the airtanks....I just suffocated to death. Nightmare: Sorry!!
  3. There are so few in sec that know how to be a good sec officer - Inis Truesight being one of em. One of the best wardens out there. I know there are more, but I can't pull the names off the top of my head right now. But I haven't played in Sec since coming back, so I can't really see what goes inside.
  4. It's because HoS Lysanuh Dilgan, Detective Faruq Bishara, and HoS trainee Rose Watson, are no longer in the sec department. We were the wicked trio that could take down any threat and keep our head high with NT pride. But we are...no more. You guys are on your own. Sorry.
  5. It's where they send all the Tajara.

  8. +1, no question about it. Another AI for Karima to pick the code of? Yes.
  9. BYOND Key: NebulaFlare Character name: Karima Mo'Taki Item name: Welding Goggles Why is your character carrying said item to work? As a roboticist, Karima does a lot of hands-on work, including welding. I've always RPed that the welding faceplate was uncomfortable for a Tajara to wear, so welding goggles were her item of choice. She is more likely to bring her own pair, than to fish out whatever was lying around in her lab, as there is no guarantee that such an item would be lying around. Item function(s): Functions just like a regular pair of welding goggles Item description: A pair of welding goggles. Written along the side of the goggles are the words, "Mo'Taki" Item appearance: Looks like welding goggles. Additional comments: Karima struggled to push the welding plate off her face. It slipped off her nose, making it itch. The old band scratched the back of her head, tangling into her hair. She sighed, using her claws to pick the knot of hair free from the band, then proceeded to pull the entire face guard off and letting it clatter to the floor. "Cheap piece of junk," she mrowled to herself. She turned back to her worktable, nodding with a satisfied smile. At least her project was turning out well. The Ripley mech she was building was designed for lifting heavy cargo, and repair breaches in emergency situations. She picked up a small piece of scrap metal and engraved the letters 'K M" on the inside, of the mech, hidden, and soon to be covered. "Karima?" A knock came from the shutter doors. She turned around. "Ah! Fasha!" She grinned, running over and embracing the Tajara standing in the doorway. "Why are you here, brother?" "Brrreak from work," he answered, pulling out a small box from his jacket. "We couldn't wait to give this to you. You hate that stupid faceplate so much. All of us chipped in, lil'sis. Even the twins, and little Miki." She grinned widely, taking the box and opening it. "Welding goggles!" she exclaimed. "The same kind I wanted!" she looked back at her brother, smiling happily. "I love them. Thank you." Fasha pulled his sister in a hug. "Only the best, lil'sis," he said. "We knew you would like it."
  10. Rose Watson has a tattoo on the back of her left shoulder. What is it? A rose surrounded by thorny vines. Contrary to what so many believe, Karima Mo'Taki does roll her 'R'. But she only does so when she is stressed, tired, nervous, or angry. Why is this? When she moved away from Adhomai to a predominantly human college, she took night classes to hide her speech pattern to sound more human. This way she could be more accepted among her peers in a predominantly human-populated field of study. At many times she was the only non-human of her class, and her shy nature usually placed her behind her classmates, when it came to speaking up and asking questions. She was also usually ignored from social groups, meaning she made a very small handful of human friends. Her claws on her pinky and ring finger are filed down to allow easier typing of the keyboard. But she keeps the rest of her claws sharp and well cared for, as they are very efficient in picking wires and fixing circuitry in the androids and robots she builds and repairs.
  11. BYOND Key: NebulaFlare Character Names: Rose Watson / Hawk Silverstone / Lori Alvarez / Angelo Keratolli / ATHENA / SCARLET / Karima Mo'Taki / Crystal Westfall / Valary Field / Demitri Rota How long have you been playing on Aurora: I can't really give a good answer. I've been with the aurora community for quite some time, and have just recently returned from a very long haitus. Species you are applying to play: Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): KArima was gray, but with the new color schemes she will either be more of a grayish-brown, or calico. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Karima Mo'Taki was a character of mine from long ago, and apparently I never had her application remade here for Aurora. Tajaran have a very interesting history, one that will involve conflicts of the modern civilization of these alien people (humans) and the respect of an artistically hidden culture. It'll be fun to have my roboticist Tajaran again, a young Tajaran woman trying to find her place in a highly advanced society. She's someone who is easily timid and equally shy, and she's going to struggle trying to make a stand for herself in this strange new world. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Tajaran in general, or at the very least the Hharar, are not ones to stand up for themselves. They have a very tight-knit clan system, with high respect to family. Such a system is easily missed by other species. Like other alien races, they are the underdog in human supremacy. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? I've always rooted for the underdog, and tajarans are very much that. They're picked on by humans, and even if they were liberated from their noble class, it's arguable if their quality of life had gone for the better or not. Their culture is mostly lost and destroyed through human interference, and they've been thrown into a fast paced world. Character Name: Karima Mo'Taki Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Karima Mo'taki grew up in a fairly modernized city of Adhomai, born into the Hharar clan. Her immediate family consisted of her father, mother, uncle, grandmother, and five other siblings, with Karima herself being the second eldest. While her family were not poor, they were not rich either. But they made do with what they had, the parents sending their children to public schools to receive education. Karima worked two jobs, the first being her family's restaurant (situated close to the harbor docks) and the second as an apprentice mechanic. While the second job offered little pay, it provided her with valuable experience. Karima gained a scholarship to study mechatronics at an accredited college, and her parents urged her to take the opportunity. She completed her degree in robotics, mainly in artificial intelligence programming. She was accepted to work for NanoTrasen, and would have to learn to assert herself - which was not easy for a timid and shy Tajaran. Her first AI program was SCARLET, but NanoTrasen deemed it a malfunction and terminated it. Desperate to prove herself and eager to fix her mistake, she created ATHENA, which was the saving grace in her career. What do you like about this character? Karima Mo'Taki is sweet and lovable. While she is very shy and timid, and has a difficult time standing up for herself, she is very protective of close friends, and will go to great lengths to help them out. She can easily get pushed around by her coworkers, but she is learning when to put her foot down and be taken seriously. People can take advantage of her kindness as Karima prefers to avoid confrontation than provoke it. However, she's not to be taken lightly, and will fight tooth and nail - er, claw - to prove she can do her job as a respected, intelligent Tajaran. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I consider myself decent, and I hope I can pull off a Tajaran that fits in Aurora. Notes:
  12. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Religion Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): N/A Region of Space: Sol System Controlled by (if not a faction): N/A Other Snapshot information: A new system of beliefs emerged with the re-discovery of sacred text buried in ancient ruins within the human homeland of Earth. It was a philosophy-based religion, personifying human morale and beliefs in the form of twelve powerful deities. These deities preserved the ideas of humanity's innovation, honor, tenacity, and existence. In a time when people were looking for enlightenment, a few turned to these ancient scripts. Some viewed them more as a documentation on philosophical outlook, others see the deities to really exist. Communities started small and grew into established groups, relying on the ancient text and converting lore and ideas to apply for modern times. The term Dodekatheon comes from the fact there are twelve gods and goddesses, and temples have popped up mainly across the Sol system of Mars and Earth. Long Description: It's not easy to be respectful of real-life religion within a game like SS13. Using real world religion can sometimes create tension, and my goal with Dodekatheon is to avoid that. Most species have their own unique religion, and I wanted humans to have an option of a non-existent religion. Dodekatheon is inspired by greek mythology, and can serve as an option for people who don't want to be affiliated with a different belief. The Twelve Dieties of Dodekatheon Name: Athene Form: A female ancient-earth warrior dressed in gold, with an owl. Domain: This is the goddess of wisdom, justice, pride, and honor. Duty: Give strength to the weak, bravery to the fearful. Name: Apollo Form: A male dressed in robes, likely carrying a musical instrument Domain: This is the god of light, art, enlightenment, and medicine Duty: Gives encouragement for studying into science, math, and medicine, showing light to the path of learning. Name: Diana Form: A female dressed in robes, likely carrying a crossbow (or a gun) Domain: This is the goddess of darkness, silence, nonexistence, and stealth. Duty: Protects through deception, followers see the light as blinding and only the darkness holds truth. Name: Nepaton Form: A male god cladded in blue Domain: This is the god of monsters, voyage and exploration. Duty: blesses people with wanderlust, and sends challenges to people to overcome. History says he sent monsters to warriors and had them defeat said creatures, but most interpret it as fighting an inner monster, like ego or greed, so they may avoid eternal suffer in the afterlife. Name: Tartarus Form: A male god on fire Domain: This is the god of pain, suffering, and death Duty: Holds onto the souls that lived evilly, giving them punishment for wrongdoing. Name: Spartakus Form: A male god cladded in armor Domain: This is the power, command, and tenacity. Duty: Inspire people who wish to become stronger or rise up the social ladder. IT was not so much of right and wrong, but of being the top dog. Name: Ceres Form: A female goddess adorned with plants and flowers Domain: This is the goddess of nature, both plants and animals. Duty: Protect resources and use them wisely, and not be wasteful. Name: Vulcan Form: A male god carrying a hammer Domain: This is the god of craft and tinkering, and forging. Duty: Covered building, crafting, and anything Apollo didn't cover. Where Apollo was theory, vulcan was applying the theory. Name: Hermes Form: A male god with winged sandals Domain: This is the god of luck, thievery, and gambling Duty: To the other gods, he was a pain in the neck. He favored those that could get their way, as long as it was clever and not evil. Never followed rules, and did as he pleased. Name: Dionis Form: A male god carrying grapes Domain: This is the god of celebration and ceremonies Established the festivals and ceremonies that are held on holidays. He's in charge of the sanctuary of the temples. Name: Aphrodi Form: A female goddess in robes. Religion: Dodekatheon Domain: This is the goddess of love, marriage, and relationships. Duty: paired up people in love. Couples would go to her temple to seek blessing if they wished a solid, happy, relationship. Name: Hestia Form: A female goddess carrying a torch. Domain: This is the goddess of family and children. Duty: guarded children within the family, protecting them from harm. As there are twelve gods, each god became related to a month of the year. Being born in that month was treated like the zodiac. Janurary - Nepaton (month of new beginnings) Februrary - Aphrodi (month of love) March - Hermes (month of 'carpe diem' or living in the moment) April - Spartakus (Month of seizing opportunity) May - Ceres (month of growth) June - Apollo (month of summer days and enlightenment) July - Diana (month of summer nights and quiet time) August - Athene (month of duty and pride) September - Vulcan (month of balance and reality) October - Tartarus (month of making amends) November - Dionis (month of celebration) December - Hestia (month of family)
  13. She goes out of her way to protect Hawk because he's the only family she has left. She grew up neglected, abused, alone, and poor. She wants human connection - she wants to have a family she can trust. She gets taken out of the streets and given a second chance by NT. She didn't have a cushy life, or a cushy job, ever - she gets stressed out through her job and training . Then a group of people come in to attack her, interrogate her and make her life even more hell. She breaks down. After she's rescued, NT forces her on leave and she seeks psychological help. One day, a distinguished NT official comes to her home and reveals she does have a family, and that family is in trouble. Suddenly he's murdered. Rose is not stupid. She's desperate. Desperate to get out of a life of fear, neglect, and depression. It's all she's ever known since the day her mother died. She's not wasting the chance to lose her newfound family, and she's willing to risk what little she has left to protect her brother. She works in security, and she worked against security. She knows how things play out. If Hawk was innocent he was going to be falsely charged, and nothing she could do within the law would stop that. She wanted justice, and the law doesn't always give that. She didn't rambo-murder people - that's gonna bring the police to her! the most snowflake thing she did was use a false identity to work as a janitor where the evidence was kept. She had special glasses that records whatever she sees. All she needs to do is look at files and move on. She was an undercover detective at most. Going back to my draft, I realize that Thorns wouldn't send her DNA to the Syndicate - she'd send them to elsewhere. She doesn't trust the Syndicate, and she doesn't despise NT anymore. She'd get cloned somewhere safe, with no idea where she's been. But hey, she's a respected officer and HoS in training, who disappeared for months with little recollection of what happened. She was targeted by the Syndicate - the law enforcement would protect her. Hawk would be acquitted of charges and found innocent.
  14. Rose's theme song is still the same:

    I Remember...

I remember when I was ATHENA during a rogue AI round, and the AI went SSD minutes from joining. So we had rogue borgs on the station with no clue how to proceed. Also, no admins were on at the time! I gave the suggestion, ((Ok, this is aggravating. We are powerless to fulfill our objective without an AI. I have a suggestion. Let's threaten to grow the singulo and eat up the station to keep containment. At least it will give the station something to RP with. And don't worry, no, we won't actually release the singulo. Just grow it enough to be big and scary, then shrink it back down. Don't worry, I got this.)) Boy was I wrong. We went to engiebay, announced our evil plan over the comms. Security grabs Ion rifles, engineers lead them in, and we bots get shot with ion. That was a terrible move, because you know why? I CAN'T INTERFACE THE GENERATOR ANYMORE. I CAN'T STOP THE SINGULO FROM GROWING!!! Singulo ate the station. Just like we totally didn't plan.
  16. Hm. Ok, question. What is the level of knowledge an HoS knows about the Syndicate? My prior understanding is they are a mysterious, dangerous organization that opposed NT - not flat-out removed from knowledge. If someone said, "I work for the Syndicate," has the reply change from, "you're joking," "that's not funny," or "If that's true, it's to the brig." to, "what's the syndicate?"
  17. Is it really that far-fetched? People are capable of finding loopholes and evading the police irl - Carlos the Jackel, Gerald Blanchard, the three criminals who escaped Alcatrez Island...I can pull examples from sleazy politics and tenacious rebels. Rose has the knowledge of how people work, both within and outside the law. And Rose didn't go at this alone: she had help, and a lot of help. One of those people that helped turned on her and killed her. She can't escape forever, and I've had to play out several close calls. A decent chunk of this is very canon, and happened on the station. To what Rose and Hawk were before, it's been toned down dramatically. I posted this because I wanted constructive criticism. Not just a careless shrug and "snowflake as fuk" with requotes - that's not helpful. I just came back after several month haitus - I see the lore change. I don't know what level of expectancy is usable now. I'm asking for advice. I've read the wiki and toned their history as far as I can, while remaining close to the original to respect other player's connections and canon stories.
  18. since the new NT had a major lore facelift (I like it. NT seems more humane now) I have to rewrite Rose and Hawk's backstories to allow them to fit. I want to ask you guys if the changes can fit. I love these two characters too much to give them up, with all their quirks and whatnot. So without further ado, here we go! And just because it's so much easier, I'm doing this in a timeline bullet format -Rose born, and is the daughter of Jedrick Silverstone and Claire Watson. -Jedrick Silverstone and Claire Watson divorced, Claire winning custody of Rose -Claire Watson dies, Rose ends up an orphan, grows up. She gets in general trouble and starts selling drugs. -Jedrick Silverstone wants a son, fathers a test tube baby and names him Hawk Silverstone -Rose wants to turn a new leaf. With best friend Lori Alvarez, leaves her home city New London for Tau Ceti, works in NT. Starts as a cargo tech, works her way into Security cadet, up the ladder to HoS trainee under Lysanuh Dilgan. -Hawk has no knowledge of his sister. Grows up in a cushy life, aspires to join the NT Navy Escort (sorry if that's the wrong name!). He starts off as a security Cadet. -Syndicate kidnaps Rose one day, implanting her with loyalty chips and interrogating her. She's finally saved by Tau Ceti officials, but suffered PTSD and depression from the incident. On top of all that, with stress from HoS training, NT loyalty implants, she breaks down and develops a split ego, Rosie Thorns, the trouble making person she was before turning the leaf. NT forces her to take some very much needed R&R -Syndicate plot to do evil bad things. Hawk, who is the son of a very distinguished official in the NT Navy Escort, is incriminated and found guilty of murder. The Tau Ceti Police arrest Hawk. -Jedrick Silverstone contacts Rose, having quietly been keeping tabs on his daughter, and she finds out about her long lost brother and father. before Jedrick is brutally murdered by Syndicate. -Rose goes AWOL, leaving her home and her life, in a desperate attempt to save a brother she never met, before it's too late. She works undercover and against regulations, using her knowledge in security, detective work, and understanding of gang relations, to steal money and fund her search for the people who attacked her father and brother. She gathers enough intel to protect her brother and prove him innocent, through bribes, altering evidence, and whatever means she could do. -However, without medication and returning to her addiction to drugs and alcohol, she reverts back to the persona of Rosie Thorns - with the distinct goal of protecting Hawk. She's clever enough to evade police force and attacks anyone who has even the smallest link to whoever hurt her brother, even if they were just innocent middlemen. -She still doesn't have enough info to clear Hawk from Syndicate prying eyes, so takes the risk to work for the Syndicate. Down the line she is assassinated by an ex-syndie agent. -Prior to being killed, Thorns had sent a DNA backup to a trusted group (either NT or tau ceti officials) who reclone Rose. Rose has little memory of the past few months, and a week long amnesia of before she died and recloned. -Hawk is acquitted of all charges, being proven innocent since it was discovered that evidence was planted. Sounds decent?
  19. That might actually make it a lot easier to RP for Hawk. Anything that was delta can be rewritten to that. He would be a normal kid who grew up with rich family. Ooooooor maybe the family added some tweaks in genetics for their special baby boy, like in the movie Gataca...part of his insecurity was that he was a test tube baby, and different from everyone else on the station. Also one of the big reasons he felt connected (I am so sorry Gollee!! Your character's name escapes me right now) the girl that was cloned by the Syndicate. Both born in a lab. All that's left is to explain his jitters around telescopic batons. Hm...his father could have disciplined him with one? Nah, Jedrick Silverstone is supposed to be a caring man. *shrug*
  20. Sam and gollee!! Good to see you both! Hey Gollee. Is Hawk's crush still around?
  21. Or, sorta returned. Real life stuff still has me kept away from any real SS13 gameplay, but hey, a little bit is better than nada, nya? So how is everyone? What lore have I missed? Lemme get to the main idea: I would love to come back and play with all you awesome people, but I miss my characters Rose and Hawk. I love em, and I sooooo want to bring them back badly. My socially inept security guard and my baddassery split-personality rebel, with all the love and hate of alter ego Rosie Thorns. And considering where I left them off, I dunno. It would be very tricky to bring them back. An idea for Rose is she finally succumbs to the Syndicate and returns to NT as a sleeper agent, to one day be awaken again. From there, see where it goes. As for Hawk, well, I dunno if the entire bred delta soldiers would still be plausible or if it is too special snowflake. He can always be toned down to the son of an extinguished NT official and trained to join some secret deathsquad. I dunno... But that stuff aside until I figure it out...How are you all?!
