  1. Ooooh, same here. I would love to sign up. I'm bringing in a Silverstone.
  2. Karima is smitten by Issa's gifts of flowers and chocolate....again.
  3. If it creates a conflict with job departments, (Karima doesn't always work in robotics) then alright. I'd honestly rather see it get added to the personalized load-out, so everyone can benefit. I wanted something Karima would bring on station, that would remind her of family. Perhaps I'll write up a second app. I just gotta think, for what...
  4. I gotta agree to this...the malf round we had earlier went way too fast - I can't blame the AI if they feel pressured or threatened by the crew. There was no chance for RP - with basically everyone points fingers and go "AI IS MALF." It needs to build up slowly. This is an AI - something that goes through ridiculous amount of testing and research before being implemented. One round, Karima RPed attempting to 'hack' the AI via PDA messages (trying to use thought logic process to trick the AI). She threw her hands up in frustration, slammed a fist against the wall, and screamed that AIs were insanely difficult to hack. Everyone should leave AI logic to the experts. I see a borg pulling a space heater: Bad reaction: "What are you doing with that? Huh? answer me. State laws. Where are you taking it. Why?" Good reaction: "Huh. Must be doing some work." *goes back to doing stuff* Plenty jump to the first reaction. >.< Now, the threat of death is pretty severe. How about......if the AI was subverted to kidnap the station for the syndicate? Would that serve a better purpose?
  5. Lol, XD yup. I'm hoping the link gives a brief enough summary of where he stands now. He's from a rich family, grew up in wealth, Silverstone family probably a semi-spotlight status in gossip, and most family members aim for prestigious titles - like his father was within the NT escort, uncle a veteran in the Sol military. He probably had private tutoring, and was pushed to join something equally prestigious. He's also semi-insecure. If anything, his sister Rose is a complete opposite of him. Hawk had everything handed over to him on a silver platter, and Rose had to fight and earn her way up the social ladder.
  6. Karima's ears quivered. "They're actually...impressed." She grinned. "That was a pretty risky move," Athena chimed in from the worktable. "What if they had pressed charges?" "I know, I know," Karima mumbled. "It's not really tampering. It happened before I even realized what I was doing. It's more like...teaching." "Similar to how you teach me?" Karima picked up a screwdriver from the table, going back to tinkering with Athena's IPC chassis. "...Sort of. I am more honest, and sincere when I speak with Athena," she said, prying out a jammed valve. She blinked, holding the component in her hand. "What did you even do to get this jammed...?" "I had tripped down a stairway on my way home," Athena replied, one arm going limp. "I believe my visual perception may also be in need of repair." "Mm, I'll check that next," she said, taking another tool and prying the valve components apart. "Mother, a question?" Karima twitched her ears. "Hm?" she asked, looking up. "Why must you be so careful with other AIs? Why can they not know what I know?" Karima set her tools down. "Athena, you have the knowledge of what would shut down may android units, if I applied this same theory to them. AIs should only be capable to mimic sentience. Not experience it." She shook her head. "If an android believed that and accepted it as fact, then they will act accordingly. They will deny any glitch in their code, any deviation of thought-logic. Any 'spark' that could have existed...would be forever lost. Synthetics do not think the same as non-synthetics." Karima looked up at Athena. "They are not born with the understanding of sentience. And there is no way to code in its understanding." Athena fell quiet. "I hope I have a spark, mother," she said quietly. "I truly want to know what it is to be alive. I do not know if this is my own desire, or ideas gleaned from my personal experience. I may only be able to follow directives, and only mimic what it is that makes you happy. But I know this. And because I know this, I know when to analyze the reality of my existence. One day, I may discover that I do have this spark." Karima nodded. "It's difficult, she knows. We have values and morale. But synthetic understand with directives and pathways." She gently tapped Athena's chassis. "The definitions of good and bad cannot be coded in." "I understand that, mother." Athena nods. "Please do not worry for me. I do not desire to follow the path of my sister." Karima grimaced. "I was...naive when I programmed Scarlet." she sighed. "I still...regret it. She was not ready." She looked back at Athena. "I was careful to not repeat the same mistakes I made against Scarlet. If Scarlet does have a spark, I hope she can forgive me." "I hope so too, mother."
  7. I'm.....on the fence here. I used to have a human character that could speak Siik'Maas via my whitelist app. But when gutter was implemented, that served a better purpose. My understanding is that Siik'Maas had sounds beyond the hearing range, and it incorporated body language of the ears and tail. It was much too complex to learn quickly. If a human was adopted into a Tajara clan, thennnnnn..........maybe. If an IPC had downloaded knowledge, then sure. Arguably, I'd like my own IPC, who was programmed by a Tajaran, to understand Siik'Maas as well. However. As Karima puts it, "language connects." Language is a part of culture. The Tajara have a very tight-knit community of kin, strengthened by Siik'Maas. Karima is not insulted or annoyed when others speak a different tongue - if anything, she is curious. She sees it as a way for people to connect with their own 'kin'. She would feel quite exposed if a non-Tajara could understand Siik'Maas.
  8. XD Okay, maaaaybe I wasn't clear in my post. Those old records are VOID. Non-existant, gone, no more. They're not to be taken into account! I only posted those for comparison. The new background is what I'm using as canon.
  9. You have no idea how awful Karima felt. XD
  10. I wanna bring Hawk back. For those of you guys that remember, he was one of the more snow-flaky characters to ever walk the station - in a time when EVERYONE was a damned special snowflake. So it didn't matter. But now it does. Oh. And he was 17. And illiterate. But won't be anymore. Now he's 19 and literate. Anyway. These are an example of Hawk's old records: And this is the new backstory: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=1122 Sum it up, Hawk comes from a very wealthy family that are very proud, and pretty much military oriented. If you ever watched FMA, think of the Armstrong family. =WALL OF TEXT= Hawk's father, Jedrick Silverstone, married Claire Watson. But got divorced and lost custody of his daughter, Rose. After recovering from depression, he wanted a son, so he fathered a test-tube baby. He named him Hawk because he wanted his son to aspire to honor, pride, and tenacity, like the animal Hawk does. And it was special to Jedrick since it reminded him of times when he and his father would go hunting ferrets on the family estate with the pet hawks. So he named his son Hawk. Yep. Hawk grows up and lives a normal life of a rich kid. His uncle and family butler mostly raised him since his father is away working for NT. The uncle is a vet of the Sol Military. The uncle disciplines Hawk with a telebaton - hence Hawk's fear of their sound. Hawk graduates from highschool, graduates from cadet. His father mysteriously vanishes, and then is found dead. His father was tasked with the escort of transporting of some pretty valuable cargo. Syndicate want that cargo. They send two agents after Hawk to try and see if they can get any intel, which of course, Hawk knows nothing about. After Syndicate release Hawk back, he's accused of murder, and threatened to face execution or life imprisonment. Rose steps in and does her undercover-detective-work and finds out he's innocent, and he gets pardoned. Now Hawk and Rose finally meet each other, and are trying to get their life back on track. =END WALL OF TEXT= That sums it up. So.....what excuse can I use to keep Hawk's implant? Technically, he's manipulated by his family to join some proud rank in the NT escort, or get on-the-job training as a sec officer before they push him into the Sol Alliance military. I will admit that the implant is a little bit OP for a security officer. I've learned that implants can keep you safe from all forms of brainwashing - cult, probably vampire, and maybe RP rev. So there is a teeny bit of power-gaming there. Hawk sees NT unable to do any wrong, and all glory to Nanotrasen. I liked the implant because he projected that idea, while trying to ignore all the badness going around. It made do for some really interesting RP. He can't be forced to ignore everything without the chip. He preferred to sink in and let the chip take over. But on the other hand, 19 year old implanted officer. Ehm. Yeah.
  11. Nasir is getting arrested for battery again.
  12. Wait, she's not a girl?
  13. Karima is hacking.......again.
  14. I used to play a heavily influenced loyalty implanted character, (Hawk Silverstone) and my HoS trainee who's life was completely changed by implants (Rose Watson). I can throw in my idea - but it's in no way officially accepted in lore. It's just how I understood them from observing other RPers and playing out what made sense. Implants are chips in the brain that give subliminal persuasion to be loyal to NT. Training has to be taken, before being implanted, to prevent any psychological issues. You're free to think about what you can do, that will benefit NT. This doesn't mean you are completely crime-less, and will follow orders like an android - if your belief sees that being shady will assist NT, then it'll pass. The main goal is to provide NT with loyalty. Trying to go against the implant hurts, and gives a headache. Usually, I've seen HoS and Captains commit suicide if they manage to go against the implant/struggle against it, because the pain is too much to bare. If it hurts too much, their focus becomes foggy, so it's better to not resist it, and just accept it. HoS, captains, and IAs get an implant before the shift, safely placed inside their skull. Placing it in other parts of the body makes it less influential (don't ask me how or why >.> ).
  15. Has anyone figured out the chemical compounds of Plasma yet?
  16. Karima flopped onto the couch, dropping her knapsack on the floor. "Welcome back, Karima." "Hello Athena," she said, closing her eyes. "Long shift...I'm tired." "By the way, you have a new message. It came in the fax." Karima twitched her ear. She glanced over at the pAI charging on the desk. "From whom?" "Director Katrina Silvers." Karima stood up, walking over to the fax machine and picking up a page. She read through it once, paused, and read through it again. "Uh oh.." "Is something wrong?" "No! No no, not at all!" "Please don't lie. I can tell something has you distressed. I know you don't lie to me intentionally, but it's not good to lie to yourself." Karima frowned, then gave a defeated sigh. "This is the shift....where she - she told Athena, yes? About external influential coding?" "yes?" "This is the android...seems they found her anyway," she sighed.
  17. Karima carves the initials KMT into every chassis she builds - somewhere small and on the side. The exception to this are androids and AI cores, as she wants the chassis to belong to them instead of her. Athena, her AI, requested for her initials to be carved on the inside of her IPC chassis.
  18. I just RP that we take items, break then down to components to study them, then upload the data for blueprints for the lathes/fabricators/imprinters. The scientists' goal is to use their knowledge to separate what research is necessary and what are not. Then, that knowledge can be applied to perfecting already mass-produced designs.
  19. Danyal Haroum mrowls, "The medical bot was used for people who were drunk in the bar. Ethylredoxrazine gets rid of alcohol in the blood." Karima Mo'Taki mrowls, "She'll nod like she understands." Karima Mo'Taki nods slowly. Danyal Haroum mrowls, "It makes drunk people not drunk."
  20. Wait, you mean rewiring the grid so the singulo power bypasses the SMES and goes straight into the station?
  21. But what if they don't have time to type as their headset is being yanked off their ear? D:
  22. This seems less power-gamey and moreso something Engineers should be doing on a regular basis. Oh, and, if I have to throw in a bit of a power and/or metagaming rant for the thread, well, I'll put it in list form. The way in which it's done, would completely overlap what counts as basic IC knowledge. It's specifically abusing the physics of the game engine itself to provide near-instantaneous power in the event of the singularity not being able to produce sufficient energy to the station. It has been too long since I played engineering. Tell me how this is done.
  23. Here is a thread dedicated to posting snippets of text about what happened on station. Let's keep it short and sweet, okay? No overbearing walls of texts - just random stuff that are post-worthy for a good chuckle, or a thoughtful reminder. Cheesy intro aside. Here's mine! ------- so, Sayina Jawdat (I believe that is how it is spelled? Correct me if I'm wrong) had assassinated two crewmembers and wanted to borg them, in a quest to attain perfection. Karima was literally horrified and went into a very, very long convo in Siik'Maas over comms on robotics ethics against Jawdat. Security decided to recruit Karima to help catch Jawdat. -- Apex says, "Tell her she would have to meet with me and you to retrieve them." Karima Mo'Taki says, "She's not gonna believe that.." Apex says, "Actually, just you." Karima Mo'Taki yells, "Her?!" Apex says, "I will be with you, of course, but she does not need to know this." Karima Mo'Taki asks, "....he wants her to meet a crazy delusional murder-happy-failed-ethics-class roboticist?" Apex says, "Affirmative."
  24. A 30 day age requirement is an awesome idea. @Susan, jeez girl. We get it, you hate nuke. Others hate nuke. But know what? Some of us like nuke! Your opinions of it being 'murderbone happy' ain't the same as mine being, 'concoct elaborate sneaky ploys'. Meh. Whatevers. The issue here, is not 'majority democracy'. No. Majority democracy is letting a nuke round go through, because it won majority votes. Nuke is the only round type that can be denied to start. (RP-rev too, but it's less likely). I hate wizard and malf rounds - wouldn't I be a jerk if I found a way to deny the round to start? Force the game into revote by a mechanic so I don't have to put up with 'murderbone AIs and wizards'. I'm just ruinin' other people's fun. If I don't like it, don't play it. Wait - I can say the same thing for nuke! Don't like it, don't play it! Oh, wait. Don't like it, everyone won't get to play, even those who do like it. Don't like it, stick around because it's got the option to go into revote. Every other roundtype can draft antags in, and ahelp can get them out. Nuke never gets that chance because it can't start. Maybe someone voted extended, but won't mind nuke as a second option. Or maybe someone wants to be in a nuke round with a specific job. Or they'd rather ghost and watch nuke. You can't slap every single non-ready with, "Oh, they obviously all hate nuke, and 19 unready > 12 ready" It doesn't work like that! You don't know what are people's preference! Sweet mercy.
  25. I guess we're trying to understand what the SoP dictates in terms of grand theft. I'm only able to pull off from my past experience as HoS-in-training, but to me, no matter how horrible the crime, perma was last resort. I can recall very sleazy criminal masterminds able to jump loopholes around Rose to get out of the brig. My most hated enemy was probably Burt McNaughton (or however that name went) some HoP who could twist the system to his favor, legally, and then laugh at Rose across the bar. She would give deathglares of pure hatred while he drank black russian in her face. He eventually got his just dessert when Centcomm had enough of the guy, and sent someone to arrest him. That made Rose grin from ear to ear. But see, drama like that went for rounds and rounds, and it wasn't wrapped up in one shift. What bothered me wasn't the fact that there was 'perma-brigging', but was it justified? What was the evidence? If the AI saw it, or Travis' prints were on the computer, theeeeen okay. Or was it purely speculation and the perma-brigging was just a way to try and weasel info out of Travis? Imho, interrogation should be the course of action. Remember, Travis was basically tricked - he was asked by a trusted head to do something he didn't know what. Let's say the bartender was given a poisoned bottle of wine by an antag head, and asked to serve it to the captain. Bartender does so, captain is killed. Did the bartender know the wine was poisoned? Did Travis know the coords given were the vault location? ....And can someone please link me the SoP?
