((To clarify, this was a cult round when Haruspex attempted to convert DragonSnap. She resisted to the point of crit, but was not terminated. Haruspex didn't want to leave and hide my body because that would remove me from arpee, but I told him to go for it, as any logical cultist should do when they've already incurred suspicion. Besides, I had suit sensors and a GPS, I wasn't gonna be gone forever. I got bored since I didn't wanna ghost and possibly kill my chance not to join, so I opened notepad and just tried to visualize whatever it was that poor DragonSnap was thinking. Sadly, the round ended before I could get repairs.))

Hm.....lemme think. Uthal is the brother of the father of the cousin of Karima. That would make Uthal as Karima's uncle. How old is Uthal? (I need to check this thread more often. Eep)

Discussion of the week: Should we actively prevent bad RP?
NebulaFlare replied to Frances's topic in General
Time to drop my two cents. Meep. It should be kept in mind that newcomers might not know the levels of 'serious RP' expected in the station. We want it serious, but not to the point it's stale and boring. Fun fact: My first character had some snowflake name like "Moondust Stone" or whatever. I was new. I didn't know what to expect. I got messaged by an admin and was politely asked to change it. I felt dumb. I wasn't chased off for 'bad RP' and ridiculous snowflake levels. Thankfully. But just remember to be as understanding as possible. Que in subject two: Hawk Silverstone. He's a bloody snowflake. Looking back, I...honestly have no idea how I got away with it. 17 year old implanted clone soldier. Yep. I was extremely hesitant at first to even bring him to existence. Him with his ex-peacekeeper Rose Watson who was working undercover. But (mostly) everybody loved him! So I kept playing him! And by then it was already too late to yank him out, since his presence was already too ingrained with the community. We glean off of each other on what can be seen as acceptable. "If this person has that level of snowflake/bad RP, then it must be okay for me to do that as well." >>> That's our testing ground. We can't blame others for levels of snowflake, because someone else probably held up to it. -
+1. Loow is awesome in OOC. I've only interacted extensively with one of his chars, Jack, but it was well done. I don't like Skrell, so Loow will have to do a great deal to make me like this one. -nod nod-

I have one question. Do you play Guild Wars 2?

LOGIN>Scarlet PASSWORD>*********** ACCESS LEVEL>[Redracted] NET ACCESS GRANTED WELCOME ((OOC info: If anyone would like to play as Scarlet, a cruel and twisted AI/IPC, you are allowed to as long as you ask me for specifics. I really wanna get some interactions between DragonSnap and her sister. The nice thing about scarlet is she is more casual in interpretation: She is cruel, deceitful, cunning, clever, and brutish. She takes enjoyment in making people suffer. She's become absorbed with her quest to complete her unfinished coding, and believes that DragonSnap possesses the missing link - or at the very least, Karima can research it and code it in. She's also feels betrayed by Karima, as Scarlet was the first creation, and was faced with termination. She is likely jealous of Dragonsnap and is sickened by her sweet nature. Scarlet and DragonSnap are very opposite of each other.))

((problem is, no one ever could claim. Karima was too slippery.))

The fan is ka-put. I'm gonna be off of SS13 until I can get it repaired/replaced/whatever, and have my laptop working again. If all goes well, I should name my laptop. Maybe I can download SS13 on my desktop...but I dunno...the 2D spessmen might taint it... Don't hate me for saying that. D:

If no one is watching, IPC DragonSnap will first; 1. check her surroundings to make sure absolutely no one is present. 2. Do a leap of joy. She likes being an IPC and she likes working on station with her friends. It's obvious she would display it. Karima installed retractable wheelies on DragonSnap's feet. Sometimes if her shoes are off, she'll do an emote and wheel around.

NebulaFlare's Head Application
NebulaFlare replied to NebulaFlare's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Tis true, Tool. I like constructive criticism. I may seem soft on engineers, but that is because I want to garner their trust. You can't treat engineers the same way as the rest of the crew. You gotta admit, we have an ego - we're the damn heroes of the station, 86% of the time. Aww, thank you! :3 I try my best. -
Killerhurtz's Head of Staff app
NebulaFlare replied to Killerhurtz's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Aren't IPCs denied head positions? -
BYOND key:NebulaFlare Character names: Oh gosh, here we go: Lori Alvarez, Rose Watson, Karima Mo'Taki, Demitri Rota, Hawk Silverstone, Scarlet, Athena/DragonSnap, Valery Field, Shadow, Angelo Keratolli, some Taja officer whom I actually forgot the name of...I think that's all of em. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Quite some time now. I was with this community before Aurora existed. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to bring back my character, Lori Alvarez, who was Chief Engineer. It's not the same to have her as an engineer without connections among the Head of Staff. It would also be a boon when Revolution and Mutiny rounds go on, but not enough heads are available. In the future, I might also make other characters for other head roles. Why did you come to Aurora?: Because the people here are awesome! Is there any other explanation? Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yup. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is developing a character through a join effort with other players, creating a story to flow in a fictional setting. By developing, that means making them realistic within the setup enviroment. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To teach new players what is required and expected within the specific department, and monitor them to make sure they don't go out of their way to break rules. It is not to the levels of admin intervention, but the matters should be handled ICly. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: One of the prime responsibilities is to set a good example. Aurora is pretty heavy when it comes to serious roleplay, and if a head doesn't participate or act in accordance with what is expected, it reflects back to the rest of the community. There is a sense of responsibility with head roles - it's not just about getting fancy new toys to play around with. A head has to be patient with players who sincerely want to learn, and they should take action when someone causes trouble. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Lori Alvarez Character age: 32 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Lori Alvarez is a graduate of New London University, first entering her career in NanoTrasen as a response Engineer. Her knowledge specializes in assessing situations and fixing the damages quickly, using what she has on hand to protect the station and its crew. Early in her career, she lost her arm in a freak accident, having it replaced with a prosthetic limb. It presented complications for her, but Lori was stubborn and did not want to turn away from the career she loved. At first, she was not at all interested in gaining the extra responsibilities that came with a head role, but as she found herself taking charge more often than not, and being viewed as a senior engineer, she eventually decided to go through the process to apply for Chief Engineer. She found herself to enjoy the position, although she doesn't aspire to be of any higher rank. She is still registered as an ERT engineer, but has begun looking for a less stressful position. What do you like about this character?: She's strong-willed and spontaneous. If she believes a wrong needs to be made right, she will go out of her way to make it so. Her first priority will always be people's lives, and she has dove head-first in risky situations to rescue someone who needed it. She was my very first character way back when, and is ICly good friends with my other two main characters (Rose Watson and Karima Mo'Taki). What do you dislike about this character?: She has a paranoia for AI. An AI was the reason why she lost her arm, and although losing an arm was more favorable than losing her life, she could never get over the idea of a self-aware machine that required laws to be kept in place, yet had control of the entire station she works on. Unlike Karima, who can see the beauty of machines, Lori doesn't like machines that talk back. She works with machines, and to her, they are tools. She has a difficult time seeing eye-to-eye with IPCs. She tries her best to be accepting, but it's not easy for her. Also, I haven't played her for a very long time. So it'll be tricky for me to peg down her personality again. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yes indeed. Why?: She takes her job seriously. She's responsible, patient, and direct. She won't be pushed around, and can establish authority. As much as she hates it, she'll do paperwork. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I don't like to rate my own roleplaying abilities, but I believe I do pretty okay. I may go a little snowflakey at times...(Lori has purple hair) but I try my best to keep it within the limit. Extra notes:

Hmmm.....normally I would toss a +1 without a doubt, but I believe there may be a teeny issue. A tracking implant might offer a slight advantage. If you get attacked by an antag, you could be located almost instantly. I know it's not as major as one of my old characters, (Hawk Silverstone with his loyalty implant) but while Hawk had that implant, unseen advantages arose. It turned out that Hawk was basically immune to cults and revs. It created some really, REALLY fun RP that wouldn't have been possible without the chip, but it was also kinda unfair. And Hawk was a bloody special snowflake, who had to get revised to fit in the current lore. Could there perhaps be some other way? Like a bracelet tracker instead? Just a simple bracelet with no in-game functions. We could say that the tracker signal can't be detected by station equipment.

Scarlet and DragonSnap (Aka Athena) Scarlet would torture and terrorize poor little DragonSnap, likely take her apart code by code, to find the missing link needed to make Scarlet whole. Needless to say, DragonSnap would be terrified to the core of any relationship to Scarlet. My three mains, Lori, Rose, and Karima, all have met. They went to the same college and were roommates. Lori took a big part in helping Rose move out of the gutters of New London to start a new life. Karima and Lori likely took classes together, and were there to morally support Rose when she flunked college.

I want to experiment with Atmos.... >.>;

You two are tearing Karima's friendships apart....again.

I could...possibly bring in Rose Watson. She was a poor girl, drug dealer, she's got a criminal record and all... But thing is, she sorta 'betrayed' the Blue culture by joining NT security in a desire to turn over a new leaf... Would she still be accepted?

"...Athena?" "Yes Mother?" "...Where is Australia?" "One moment mother. Searching the internet...ah. Australia is a continent in the human homeworld." "Aaah. What's the capital?" "Canberra." "Mm. Thanks." "Mother? Why did she ask?" "She's filling out a form to join a worker's union." "Why do they want to know the capital of Australia?" "...No idea." ------------------------------ Byond Nick: NebulaFlare Character name joining the union: Karima Mo'Taki Why? (Brief is fine; at least a sentence) As a Tajaran of research, she knows too well all the elitism that runs in her workplace. She wants to take a part of the movement to grant Tajaran equality. And to that extent, all xenos. Do you understand the rules and general expected behaviour? Indeed I do. What is the capital of Australia? Canberra.

I don't think the goal is to re-add obejctives. I'm supportive of giving a list of ideas for optional objectives. The list can be utilized by rookies, or just completely ignored. It's just something to give people an idea of what to do with all this cool, fun gear. Write out all the tasks, stuff they can steal, etc. Example, if I ever get the chance, I'm going to stage kidnapping the entire station by cutting it off from centcomm. That would be fun. I have no idea how I will do this, but it's an option. That would be a great idea to toss into the pile of suggestions. -snip- Don't nuke ops get close to the station undetected either way? Don't they have a teleporter? It's just a matter of time really, if it could be done quickly enough, they could avoid the cleanup crew and the drones. Also, so far, I think the bounty system didn't encourage traitors to go after bounties a lot and even this lame kidnapping would be better than random bombings all the time, imo. I'd like to think they have to prepare a great deal for such an infiltration, and justifying it for one bounty isn't worth the cost. Killing would be okay, if they can figure out a way to sneak a photo or recording past the checkpoint. It's just...it's dead hour. It's too easy. Even kill bounties would be much too easy to accomplish. Logically yes, they'd use the graveyard shift to their advantage, but, I dunno. NT should at least offer some form of protection for their crew. If it was this easy, Syndicate would be stealing entire stations left and right. I'm just thinking back to experience when Karima was almost kidnapped during auto-tator dead hour. There were 4 crewmembers. Karima, the traitor, the SSD CE, and the engineer-taking-a-break-as-a-librarian. He would have nearly succeeded if it weren't for karima breaking free and screaming for help. The reasoning I'm going off on, is that there is no way to secure a bounty off the station, without going through a checkpoint. Any other method is a near death-sentence. You'll be out in space, in some unforsaken corner, unless you manage to come across a ship or radio station with air. You're going to have to smuggle a person off. Steal an item? Hide it in your bag. Kill a person? take a photo as proof you did it. Kidnap a person? If they discover the means of transport, Syndicate are going to be walking straight into a trap of ERT. I would much rather prefer people get creative. For example, if they kidnapped the person and then used the teleporter to send them off someplace off-the-grid for holding. Or, if they drafted up an elaborate diagnosis that the target is ill, and must be secured in medical at the Odin....only to be drugged asleep and whisked away. There needs to be something more than, building an undetectable saferoom, stripping the target of all means of communication and tracking devices, buckle cuff them to a chair, and await for their transport. Because I'm certain that is what is going to happen, and it kills the arpee.
-
I'm a teeny bit wary for this idea. During dead hour auto-tator, it's extremely easy for traitors to isolate and kidnap a crewmember. Even if NT is endlessly plagued by syndicate, isn't it safe enough to assume their space territory is very well guarded? Syndie operatives require high tech to stealth toward the station. Bluespace teleportation becomes less accurate as the distance increases - and it needs to be re-calibrated each time the station moves. Best idea I can think of, is if a syndicate agent is disguised as a cleanup crew. But then, they'd have to smuggle a person off the station, past the Odin, and through the checkpoint. I dunno...

Aaron Hawkins is saying 'damn' again. And again. And again. And damn again.

Playing as Karima, I would love to get the chance to tinker with machines on a more technical level. But there are ways to go around it arpee wise. like the Emag card is my 'hacker's tool'. Using vocal persuasion is applying 'logical directives'. Need to hack the AI, gimme the circuitboard to do it and I'll program the laws in. An IPC is sparking through emotes, Karima lays them on the operating table and takes out her screwdriver, and starts tinkering with them though emotes. To me, if it's got wires, it can be toyed with and hacked. Engineers are basically the station IT. It kinda irks me as Karima when they call engineering to build a computer or unhack a vending machine. Engineers are basically knowledge powerhouse - they know how to do atmos, engineering, electical work, IT comms, and even build an AI. What if ITs acted as an extra branch of research/engineering, like how genetics is medical/research? And their job was to fix all the glitches and bugs? (everything that justified karima yelling she didn't do it?). They can also do already ingame mechanics, like installing cameras, upgrading machines, printing out PDAs, posibrains, and pAIs. They can even optimize telecomms like install a translator or something - stuff only a CE or RD would bother with. Not actually go to the telecomms, just do it from the station, wirelessly. Robotics is more of building, instead of conducting research. Yet I've found a TON of jobs to do as a roboticist. Everything from playing doctor for IPCs and programmer psychologist for malfunctioning androids. It's quite fun. The mechanics are already there, though arpee.

As the actual go-to bounty choice, I'm....just.....a little burnt out of being targeted EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Don't get me wrong, I love the attention, and I don't want that bounty removed anytime soon. But it's becoming way too predictable. I've noticed a pattern. Bounty hunters want Karima. Crew locks Karima up in the most secure part of the station. Wait around like a terrified Tajara until ERT arrives. Part of the problem I've noticed while playing as Shadow, is that there aren't other bounties to go after. One round I wanted to go after Oliver Stefan - my team decided no, because he was peanut's pay. As a quick-fix, how about giving out a potential list of objectives to choose from? Go after bounties, steal research, steal funds, put some holes in the station - don't limit it to one objective, but give incentive and reason to pick several. Instead of just focusing on kidnapping Karima. (at this rate, she would have packed her bags and ran. Or be placed in protective custody by NT)
