[Denied] NecromanTea's Hefty IPC Application
niennab replied to NecromanTea's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
To clean up the board, I'll have to deny the application for now. However, feel free to reapply when you have the time to address what was brought up above! -
Not all Bartenders are Chefs and not all Chefs are Bartenders. I think changing the role like that adds more complication over just adding another slot.

Sorry, more running around and travel. Heph 1 and 2 are the only units that can go with the suit cooler only. All others units are meant to use a suit + cooler (whether integrated or portable). ((I feel a bit silly in that because I've never used a softsuit as an IPC, I do hope I'm not using any terms wrong or presenting the wrong information however))

Hello, As an update, so I'm not leaving you in the dark, I will be making my decision around Sunday morning at the latest (NA time). I wanted to choose earlier but given that I am currently travelling, I feel it'd be better that I make my decision once I'm back on my PC and availble. That way the team can start strong!

Sorry for the delay in weighing in on this, I've had family visiting (sadly I still do too!). I confirmed that this change was unintentional. I am a bit preoccupied until the 9th but I can see about reaching out to a coder or writing a bug report at some point!

I haven't found this to be the case and I think it should be noted this isn't what is being proposed. Bartenders tend to stand in front of the patrons they're talking to, which means the line of space above them is free. I also dont think we would need two sets of everything. The additional role can be made without any changes to the bar. If two drink orders were proposed at the same time, which may have only been once in all of my time having an assistant at the bar, I just waited for the space to clear.
-
As the title suggests, I wanted to put forward the idea of having two Bartender slots instead of one. I've had a few rounds where I've played my Bartender with an assistant in the form of another Bartender character or an assistant only character and I've yet to run into any issue. The reasons for my suggestion being: I find that when every bar stool has someone sitting in it, the roleplay becomes increasingly overwhelming and it becomes difficult to balance the conversations. I sometimes find it tough to come around to the other side of the bar in order to serve those seated at the tables when I have a half full (or more) bar. With two bartenders, one player could reasonably serve as a waiter if we have more people use the tables. This could potentially, I hope, encourage people to sit at the tables more as well. The two Bartenders could also roleplay with each other on otherwise quiet rounds.

[Accepted] Kaedwuff's Masochistic Robot App

Your application demonstrates a good understanding of IPCs. Application accepted. However, on the basis of how the application was presented, I am a bit worried in regards to the player to player interaction outside of roleplay. In the event of unwanted behavior, rules will be enforced regarding the whitelist. Though I remain optimistic. Enjoy the whitelist. -
Tailson's Synthetic Lore Deputy Application
niennab replied to Tailson's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I believe I started sometime during or after their removal as well. I only know about them because when someone mentioned them in my app, I had to ask around for clarification of them. They were 'deleted' because they were seen as bloat and their conflict was largely resolved. I am looking for someone who I can bounce of for feedback, assist in white-lists (in say, opinions and questions) and, if they have an interest in the topic, take on projects of their own. -
[Denied] NecromanTea's Hefty IPC Application
niennab replied to NecromanTea's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
In it's current state, I would deny this application on the basis of a lack of depth on the character concept as well as a lack of depth in presenting an understanding of the differences between humans and IPCs. Bear in mind, the application format calls for approximately two paragraphs of content for the character concept. I am however willing to extend a deadline for you to bolster the content in the application! Some immediate questions I have are why was Hesiod deemed ineffective? What were/are his downsides? What was his early life like? Etc etc. -
So after a bit of consideration I'm going to deny this application on the basis of a lack of community support and a fleshed out back story, although I encourage you to try again in a few weeks time. I have however enjoyed my time rping with David Treeby in the bar. Treeby is an interesting conversation partner and from what I gather, you've had no OOC issues. I however believe there is room for improvement. When you do, I encourage rewriting the application although I leave that up to you. It's my personal opinion that we as role-players get better with each new character concept. Feel free to advertise your application in OOC as well. It helps developers understand if you can be trusted from an OOC standpoint. It was brought to my attention as well that this story fits a Roboticist IPC more particularly than an Engineer. Although I am fine with the method in which the positronic brain is acquired, one must ask how RAT acquired the databases required for Engineering. Although (and you didn't do this but as an example:) 'his owner bought the databases' could be reasonably argued, but is ultimately lacking. Based on his backstory, working as a Roboticist seems more reasonable when considering the concept as a whole. I recommend incorporating more elements from the IPC wiki page into your application as well. Thanks for applying!
-
I like this point a lot. Consider as well that it COULD mean that RAT may have memories (partial or none) of whatever purpose they served before their positronic brain was retrieved. This could make for a more expanded upon backstory. Humans can live in District 14, I only wanted to clarify the 'whys' of their story. So I don't have to keep you waiting (while I get settled into the role and get a handle on navigating whitelists) I'll get back to you tomorrow on the app! I may have more questions.

[Accepted] Kaedwuff's Masochistic Robot App
niennab replied to Kaed's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
If you hate IPCs, why apply for the white-list? I must admit opening with that claim doesn't give me a positive impression of the application. Nonetheless, I have a few questions: Can you expand on how IPCs differ from humans? The backstory of the character is a bit bare bones so what I mostly want to ask is with this concept, since there is a focus on a lack of identity, other than opposable thumbs, what makes this character different from a station-bound? -
Sorry for the delay! I worry that this backstory is rather bare bones and doesn't offer a confident understanding of IPC lore. Where did Kenny acquire the positronic brain from? Why did they choose to settle down in a (fairly terrible) place such as the Scrapheap as opposed to anywhere else? What is Kenny's outlook on existence? Who were the people he was assisting? Since an IPC requires both a positronic brain and a chassis, I could see someone building a chassis from used parts and selling them, but it would be ultimately just a body, rather than an entire IPC. Was Kenny purchasing positronic brains in making his own presumably small time reselling business?
-
Thank you for applying! I appreciate your remarks about the IPC factions being discrete. I have felt the same and I would love to see changes made to this. I was curious what you mean by wanting to change the lore behind positronics in your essay? What are the issues that you feel with positronics in the current lore? As a side note, I am wary of the idea of making people reapply for white-lists. I would only like to strip white lists for big offenders with multiple warnings. I like to believe that people get better as writers with each new character and therefore some archived white-lists may not be a true reflection of the players current skill set. You might find that I am a fairly lax person comparatively. Do you see this being an issue in working together? Do you have any preferred management styles? I'd like to have an open space with my Deputies where they can take on projects but at the same time, they aren't expected to. I also hope to utilize the team as a means of brainstorming and refining ideas. What do you expect from me as a Lore Developer? What do you expect as a Deputy? Edit: Additionally, will you be able to balance the duties of a coder as well as deputy duties?

Tailson's Synthetic Lore Deputy Application

Applicants with Skrell icons are automatically declined on the basis of skrell man bad. Thank you for applying! Having experience in running events, whether assisting or heading is certainly a plus. The essay was well written. I could even see it being a welcome addition to the library's database. I think it's a great idea to give hivebots a more concrete place in the lore, although I'd only be afraid that they could end up too close to the now deleted Sunderers. That's only my thought in passing however! Nonetheless, do you have any preferred management styles? I'd like to have an open space with my Deputies where they can take on projects but at the same time, they aren't expected to. I also hope to utilize the team as a means of brainstorming and refining ideas. What do you expect from me as a Lore Developer? What do you expect as a Deputy? -
OH--yup I am just very very dumb.

Considering the breaths are no longer even taught/used in my country (or I believe there's one breath at the start?), I believe CPR itself needs an entire overhaul. It should simply be based on chest compressions over breaths. It isn't so much a less effective way to save someone, nowadays it is the way to save someone. I must admit when I worked medical as an Offworlder I was never able to successfully use CPR but maybe that's just me being bad at the game. In the case of denying it to IPCs, I see no reason for it from an IC standpoint. Considering an IPC might be a service bot, why not give them the education to ultimately save their coworkers/owners in times of crisis? (keeping those pesky organics alive)

I appreciate the kind words! I like to think I can handle the negative aspects of the job, but I will admit that is my biggest concern. At first I almost didn't apply due to this exact consideration. I don't personally feel as though time is an issue but standing up for new ideas in the face of adversity will certainly be a challenge but one I am willing to take on.
