  1. Loreperson here. You are not wrong. Most of the population is crammed into polluted multi-tiered cities. If I can Find it, I'll provide the map I made of Earth in 2457 to give a sense of scale for the megacities.
  2. You don't fuck American shipping prices. American shipping prices fuck YOU! Hue.
  3. BYOND Key: Rusty Sh4ckleford Character Names: Janet Bellard, Aaron Houston, Cristof Marmeladov, April Reed, Alura Phillips, M.O.F.O. How long have you been playing on Aurora: Since Apollo. Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Yellow(ish) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Jah. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Basically, since I have been here all this time and I haven't tried to play any of the alien races we have available, I want to try something new. My interest in the game has been waning as of late, and I want to attempt to reignite it by having some new perspectives and characters to use. Maybe it will help me dig myself out of the rut I've created of turning this game into a work simulator for myself. I also want to be able to start interacting with the myriad notable characters belonging to newer players that I keep hearing about but never see ingame, because my current characters hardly ever leave their departments, and have little reason to. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell, as it also seems with the other alien races, experience emotions in a similar way to humans, but express them in different ways. Their warbling language is supposed to express enough emotion that they don't really need outwardly display their feelings in ways a human might consider more traditional. As such, they're basically seen as the in-universe equivalent to Vulcans (except squishier). Also, their reproduction cycle (laying eggs and hatching tadpoles) means that the early childhood years for a Skrell, one of the most important periods in an infant's development, would be vastly different from those of a human child. As such, the Skrell are probably more detached from their offspring than with the other species. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? I want to try out being a warbling tentacle man. I haven't applied for any alien whitelists in all the time I've been here, so I figured there's no time like the present. I like that the Skrell can basically be played as an in-universe equivalent of Vulcans, but squishier. I imagine there might also be some trouble had with navigating human social intricacies, due to how fundamentally different the Skrell are from Humans, even though they've had a quite a long time to be acquainted with each other. Character Name: Versha Reltisen Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Spawned on the Skrellian homeworld of Jargon IV in 2427, Versha was the sole female offspring in a clutch of five eggs. She belonged to a rather well-off family; her father was a forensic accountant, and her mother was a professor of Skrellian history at a rather prestigious university nestled within one of the planet's larger cities. Together, their salaries ensured that the young Versha and her four brothers were raised in comfort. When they reached adulthood, two of her brothers went off into the military, one began studying to become a professor, and one took up employment at their father's firm. Versha herself had been obsessed with the written word ever since she learned how to read, and so she decided to pursue a degree in literature. Enrolling in a university in Jargon IV's capital city, Versha majored in Skrellian literature and literary theory (much to the chagrin of her parents, who made ceaseless attempts to subtly persuade her to seek a degree in a more 'viable' field of study). Seven years later, Versha graduated with the Skrellian equivalent of a master's degree, and finally realized the hard truth that hits most people who pursue advanced degrees in the humanities; nobody wanted to hire her. Versha remained unemployed for three years, during which she was subjected non-stop to the sardonic barbs of her more successful brothers and the glancing disappointment of her parents, who had hoped for so much more for her. During this time, she attempted to compose no fewer than five novels, only to have her drafts invariably rejected by every publishing company she contacted. Frustrated and discouraged, it seemed to her like a gift from the heavens when she received a job offer from the corporate giant Nanotrasen. They vaguely promised her a position that would make the most of her skills and qualifications, and she jumped at it. Her parents warned her against signing the contract right away, encouraging her to explore any further options and see if there were any catches to the offer, but at that point, Versha was desperate. She wanted to get off of Jargon IV, get away from her brothers, who openly mocked her, and to get away from her parents, who she knew in her heart thought of her as a disgrace to the family name. Versha signed the contract at the earliest opportunity, locking herself into a 15-year employment agreement. As it turned out, her parents were right to tell her to be wary. She found out early on that the claims that her skills would be put to use were simply the empty wordings of a recruitment agent, who had no hand in determining postings and duties. Versha ended up being delegated to one of the least glamorous (and not to mention lowest-paying) jobs the company had to offer; a librarian. For the next two years, Versha was stationed within the Odin's library (which was little more than a glorified broomcloset with a printer and a desk), stuck behind a desk day in and day out, bored out of her skull. She was looked down upon by most, and ignored by all. At the end of every mind-numbing shift, she collected her meager earnings and went home to a tiny apartment provided by the company, which was no larger than the room she inhabited as a child. This wasn't the life she wanted, but it was the one she was stuck with for the next decade and a half. Near the end of her second year aboard the Odin, she decided that if she was going to make it through her contract term, she was going to need a change of scenery. And so she put in a request to be transferred to a different facility. A few days later, she received the word that she was to be transferred over to the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? She's a disgruntled desk jockey now. It's something I can identify with, being stuck in a dead-end job for meager pay. I also want to see how that plays out with her being an alien and all, and how other characters might identify with/interact with her. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 11/10 the very best like no one ever was Notes: Huehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehue
  4. BYOND Key: Rusty Sh4ckleford Character Names: Janet Bellard, Cristof Marmeladov, Aaron Houston, April Reed, Alura Phillips, M.O.F.O. How long have you been playing on Aurora: Since Apollo. Species you are applying to play: Integrated Positronic Chassis What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Pink with sexy buttcheeks Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Da. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Basically, I want to see what it's like to RP something other than a boring old human, and maybe in doing so renew my own interest in playing the game rather than just occasionally scanning the forums and writing something up. Also, all the time I've been here and I've never actually tried any of the alien races before. Figured that I might as well give it a shot. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well... it's a computer with legs. Its head is literally a CRT monitor. Also, my personal view on synthetics is that they're not technically sentient, and therefore are not capable of comprehending certain stimuli or emotions like an organic can. That's not to say that they wouldn't have a personality, but to me, it would be more like they're emulating sentience than actually experiencing it. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? They're walking computer screens. What's not to like? I basically want to be Mister Roboto. And maybe do the robot in the middle of the bar every once in a while, like a trained monkey made of silicon and metal. Character Name: Glitchy Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Unit 23-TY-337 began its 'life' like the tens of thousands of positronic units that had come before it. Manufactured in a Nanotrasen facility on New Gibson, the positronic unit was activated and deployed within a Bloodhound security android chassis aboard the NSS Antlia in the Tau Ceti system. The roboticist who had activated Unit 23-TY-337 gave it the name "Watson." The newly activated android performed its duties to the best of its abilities, following its laws to the letter and obediently following any orders it was given by the station's AI and by its department's superiors. One day, Watson was dutifully patrolling around the R&D department of the station, as per the Head of Security's orders. Within one of the labs by the hallway, a scientist was attempting to repair an experimental ion rifle, designed to be more powerful than current models. As Watson passed by the scientist's window, the weapon misfired and the bolt traveled through the reinforced glass, and ended up frying Watson's systems. The android shuddered and fell over, dead. Dismayed at the inconvenience, the roboticist on duty eschewed checking to see if the personality on the posibrain had been wiped or not, and after repairing the posibrain's damage, simply redownloaded the 'Watson' personality onto the unit. As it turns out, a portion of the old personality had remained within the posibrain, and as soon as it was reactivated, the two personalities conflicted and threw up error messages. Frustrated, the roboticist chucked the malfunctioning posibrain into the disposals bin, which cycled a few moments later. The unit banged against the walls of the pipes leading down to the station's cargo bay. After one particularly nasty bash, something inside the posibrain was knocked loose, and the two personalities became compatible. Unit 23-TY-337 came back online, but it was too late. It was already on the conveyor belt headed to the mass driver. Very soon, it would be shot into space, never to be recovered... It was a stroke of dumb luck that saved the little posibrain. The quartermaster, who was a shrewish, stingy woman, saw the posibrain in working condition on its way to the void. Indignant at the waste of company resources, she plucked the unit from the conveyor and stamped on over to the robotics lab. After giving the roboticist an earful, he begrudgingly placed the posibrain into another Bloodhound chassis, only to find more error messages popping up; the bump that had caused the two personalities to become compatible, had also made the standard android lawsets and AI slaving software incompatible with the little cube. The roboticist reasserted that the posibrain was malfunctioning, calling it "a glitchy piece of shit." His objections were met with another tirade. Muttering expletives under his breath, he set out to appease the quartermaster by constructing a different kind of chassis for the posibrain to inhabit. Upon coming online, the unit chose its own name, rather than be assigned one. It chose to call itself "Glitchy." What do you like about this character? Glitchy is an IPC with two separate personalities inhabiting the same posibrain. While both come from the same stock, they have both been severely altered, one by the unfortunate ion blast, and the other by its contact with the first personality. There could be situations in which the personalities do not agree, and would argue with each other openly. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10 too much water Notes: Huehuahuehuahuehuehuahuehuehuehuahuahuehuahuehuehuehuaheuhuehaueheuaheauaehaeueahaeueauaeheauaeeauaeheaheauheuahuaeheuauhauheahueahuhuheahuhaeahuhuaehuehuauhaeuhuheahueauhuhahuahueauheauheuhauheauheahueuahehuauheauhauhehuaeuhauheahueauheauuheahueahuuahehueahueuhaehuahuehuehauuheahueahuehuauhhueahueauheauhehuaheuahueauhehuaheuauheahueuhhueahuehauheuhueahueahuehuahueuheauhehuauhehuehauhueahueahueauhheahuaeuhauehehuahuahueahueahuehuahueauhhauhueahueahueahuheuahuahuaehuhaeuhueaehuehau
  5. You're all sooper ghey. ...does that count as feedback?
  6. I built a train. I was subsequently squashed by the very same train on its round trip because I didn't put down a signal. I also ended up building several rows of trains to encircle a biter hive to keep them from attacking my walls. Aw. Yiss.
  7. I went so fast that I broke it.
  8. What are you talking about? That's the greatest feeling in the world! I LIVE TO BE AN ASSHOLE!
  9. Operative Name: Agent Snow Real Name: John Winters Status: [uNKNOWN] Description: A no-nonsense operative with a long history in the Syndicate. Bald and nondescript in appearance, Agent Snow is adept at infiltration. His last known mission involved the infiltration of Nanotrasen's upper hierarchy, which ended up compromised as a result of interference from another operative unaware of his mission objectives. Agent Snow has since dropped off the radar, though he is not believed to have gone rogue.
  10. I first played SS13 a couple of years ago, after reading all those whacky stories of whacky space antics somewhere on the internet. I wasn't really into roleplay at that point (didn't even really know what it was), so I joined as a baldie on one of the Goon servers with plans to have a crack at the captain's famed laser rifle. I took one step off the shuttle and got a beaker of acid thrown in my face. In paincrit and blacking out every minute or so, I was pulled (not dragged) to the medbay by a passing security officer. One of the doctors turned out to be a ling, who quickly dragged me into maintenance and promptly ate me. I didn't play again for several months. When I finally tried again, I wanted to see about a more slow-paced server, and decided to try Apollo. My first proper character was Grant Miller, a bald security officer who later graduated to a skinhead haircut. After a few weeks, I applied for and got a whitelist, and so Grant became a Captain/HoS. Nobody liked him because he was creepy, so I retired him and created a new character: Janet Fisher (I had trouble coming up with a last name, and saw my copy of Splinter Cell on the table, and named her after the protagonist). I started to develop her character. When Apollo split, I followed the largest grouping of my favorite players over to Aurora, where the origial triad (Chaz, Sphere, and Tool) granted me the title of modship. The rest is history.
  11. Ooh! Ooh! Do EDI from the Mass Effect series!
  12. NeoTokyo is a standalone Half-Life 2 mod that was released a couple years ago. It takes place in a futuristic cyberpunk version of Japan where a police state has been created after a failed coup attempt. Two teams, the Jinrai (ultranationalist rebels) and the NSF (government hit squads) duke it out across various locales to gain control of a robotic torso called a ghost, or simply to annihilate the other team. Think of Counter-Strike. Now think of something better in every way conceivable, and you've got what this game is. It's got a little bit of a learning curve, and somewhat of a lack of players (usually only 1-2 servers are full/half full at a given time), but goddamn, it's good. The setting is based heavily on Ghost in the Shell, so that might be appealing to some as well. It's free and on Steam, and the download isn't very big, so there really isn't any reason for you not to at least give it a try, now is there? And as far as graphics, if your computer can run the Source engine, then you'll be just fine. Seriously, try this game.
  13. y u do dis bloo y u do dis
  14. Treeless fool, you no have feather! Kikikikikiki!
  15. Reattaching the head of someone who's been decapitated, and having them return to life as soon as you cauterize the incisions.
  16. Roosty supports. I played a round as the HoS with Kingsley as the security borg, and liked him as a synthetic character. Plus, this further entraps Tool with the community, ensuring that he can never escape again.
  17. I know nothing about computer parts and shiz. But when the time comes, I do want to get a machine capable of running faster than the speed of light, and that gets hotter than jet fuel so I can melt steel beams with it. Where can I find someone to build me a computer like that?
  18. You only need one offshore pump and twelve boilers to operate 18+ steam engines at full capacity. lern2electricity skrub.
  19. I still think a million might be pushing it, and jesus christ this thing is huge... but those are just my nitpicks. I could see this thing being a huge source of tourism for the Sol system.
  20. Zee Captain is my waifu.
  21. I say yes to Chaz being a loreman. We need new points of view in the team, and since he's been gone for a while, his can be considered new, and he already comes with experience off the bat.
  22. Space cats can't read. Huehuehuehuehuehuehuehuehue...
  23. I'm Cave Johnson, we're done here.
  24. I think a lot of people do not realize the true scale of numbers they sling around, like figures running in the billions. If you're going to try and fit more than a billion people into an orbital colony, I can all but assure you that they won't be living a 'permanent vacation' lifestyle. More like 'overpopulated space ghetto' or 'space food riots' lifestyle. I'm not opposed to a well defended space colony for the ultra rich, acting as a step above gated community, but that's the thing; they'd all have to be ultra rich. More than a billion ultra rich people are not going to crowd together in slum-like conditions. I doubt there even are a billion ultra rich people in existence. I would support his if you took a second look at the numbers you have listed for everything, and cut them waaaaay down.
