  1. She's got a point. It is a little strange that the entire lore is "Aurora" or "Aurora Station" when, first, the Aurora is a very tiny piece of the lore, and second, the titular station has been decommissioned for a while. The main issue is that when we say Aurora to each other, we know what the person means. If we do it to other people, they're clueless. It's not the most pressing of issues, but I can see why someone would want a better name.
  2. Absolutely not. I get it, it sucks having a bad ling ruin a round or having to deal with them over and over, but that's kind of just an issue with having players be antags and letting players choose their roles. The issue here is that if it's removed from secret rotation, it just leads to the entire gimmick being blown. On-station antags benefit from the secret system the most, but none as much as Ling. Turning it into a vote only round type is a terrible decision that with only lead to the round type rarely happening and if it does happen having everyone be focusing on finding the Ling.
  3. This conversation isn't going anywhere regardless. Clearly questioning why a civilian phoron exploration ship needs have a city killer on it and why we're even tasked with fighting a naval battle is a step too far.
  4. I've literally done mapping. I gave it up when I realized how many hoops I'd have to jump through to even get an away site in the game. Playing politics with dev teams not open to outside ideas isn't fun, shockingly enough, Well if you had actually read the post, you'd notice that I was saying that people won't want to contribute if the dev team continues to refuse any suggestions and feedback.
  5. Bold to say that when it might not even get used. For all intents and purposes, why should I go and make a map for an area after this thread? You guys have made it clear that you're priding your own writing over anyone else's ideas, so why should I even make the attempt if I'm just going to be told it's not in the plans?

  7. Alright, here's the issue I'm personally seeing: the events are largely the same. We get into a conflict, either via boarders or another ship, command deals with them with some insubstantial interaction with the rest of the crew, then we shove off towards a different sector that is essentially the same as the last, just with a different space background. Devs in this thread keep talking about the potential that the Horizon brings, but if it has that much potential, why are the events this limited? Even if it was a little caustic, @Bejewledpot made a great point, similar to what @niennab said. If we're a vessel that is running all over space in order to find Phoron, why the fuck AREN'T we doing events where we're actually exploring? Why are we limited to having Solarian or Elyran ships show up to throw a temper tantrum? We had a period of around TWO MONTHS where we were near planets where things were happening, but we never got to see it. As a asteroid locked space station, it makes sense for us to hear about events without actively dealing with them. As an actively flying vessel, it makes it feel limited and lame. Like, we've had moments where we've been told that we're in a sector where we can canonically take R&R in certain areas. We're currently inbound for Moghes, and I genuinely feel like we're not going to have anything that capitalizes on it, and if we get anything it's probably gonna be another boarding. This community is amazingly passionate and I guarantee you they can make a wealth of maps, sprites, and content for updates. We could do events where we drop on a planet and have to fend off raiders and pirates looking to steal our phoron, We could slum it at an Unathi or Tajara bar. We could find extensive ruins on some mostly forgotten planet in the backwaters of the Light's Edge. We have a starmap more than a hundred lightyears across, the possibilities are endless. The arguments of "but it takes a lot of work"' are really sort of ridiculous. Yes, it takes a lot of work, but I guarantee you people would be way happier and way more interested in actually doing events if you put the work in. Hell, it'd probably make people more interested in working on the game and helping you make more content if you actually entertained the idea of doing events other than the same old "command deals with foreign boarders" trick over and over. I also want to address the actions of some of the Devs and Admins in this thread. A few of you are acting like children. Don't be pissy because people don't like your ideas for events. Going "uhm well ur wrong" to people because they're unhappy is a shitty fucking attitude that does nothing but make you look like a dick and push people who were already on the fence further into not playing. We're all grown adults here, so let's start fucking acting like it.
  8. I like the idea, but the issue with that is it could lead to metagaming. If you're a med main and you keep seeing like, "Morphine Injector Mk2" over and over in antags, people are gonna figure out what's what. I think it's better to make most of them unidentified.
  9. As far as I am aware, you are not to remove implants without express orders from command, which causes issues when you can't actually tell what you're pulling out of them.
  10. Due to a situation that arose in a recent medical round of mine and subsequent discussions, I feel like there's a slight issue with how implants are currently handled. Despite us, in canon, having the ability to determine Multiple Severe Organ Failure with an instantaneous body scan, to chuck a dude in a tube and have all his wounds healed, and the ability to heal genetic damage through a simple injection, somehow we can't differentiate bombs, implants, and bullets. Currently as it stands, all those things get listed in the various scanners as abnormal masses. This causes issues when a person has been filled full of shrapnel and you don't know if what you're taking out is a piece of metal or some implant some dude needs to survive, and that's problematic. My solution? When scanned, list all implants, except for one, as an "unidentified implant." As for the Mindshield implant, as it's required in all but one command member slots, should be listed with it's full name. All others will not be named, and as such will not result in people accidentally nuking antags entire gimmicks. I saw a suggestion that antag implants shouldn't be visible on scanners, so I'll preemptively address that. Personally, I feel like having them be invisible would lead to more problems than it's worth. I can already see arguments arising due to an antag undergoing surgery, medical missing a bomb implant, then having the person fucking explode. I feel like simply labeling (almost) all implants identically would be the best choice as it would ensure it's removeable if things get ended for the antag, as well as possibly allow for interrogations of what they have in them provided there's a detective.
  11. Currently, he sees the DPRA as a valid idea, ruined by traditionalism and xenophobia. Are they working to eliminate the caste system? Absolutely, but if you're still shunning people for intermingling with the "lower" ethnicities, what's the point? In contrast, he hates the Royalists. The people deposed the royals such a long time ago, and clinging to the monarchy is a bastardization of Adhomai. He is a follower of the Ma'ta'ke pantheon. As a young man in the military, he was a supporter of Total Hadiism. As he grew older and more disillusioned with the political games, he got out of it until he heard of Young Hadiism, jiving more with that than any other ideology he'd heard. Truthfully, his hope is that while he's away, things will calm down and reform a bit. The current state of his home planet is disconcerting, and he'd rather not end up being a casualty if it boils over or someone gets their hands on a weapon of mass destruction. If everything smooths out, he'd be willing to return, and if not...well, he'll probably get the paperwork ready to fully move to Biesel.

  14. BYOND Key: SinfulBehaviors Character Names: Azzam Amari, Antonio Valente, Silas Grayson, a cavalcade of other characters I need to use more Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Taupe, a darker furred Hharar. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Aye. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I really enjoy the interplay and tension between the three factions of Taj. While I love humans, political strife doesn’t exactly seem to be an inbuilt issue for those characters, considering most of the time Solarians on the ship don’t actually seem to agree with their government, at least not to the degree of the issues between the Royalists, Republicans, and Al'mariists. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unlike my previous whitelist pertaining to IPCs, Tajara DO have a different way of speaking to your standard human. Much more Khajit like, but not identical. Tajara are also, depending on their origin, generally more conservative than your average human. DPRA in particular are quite a bit more disdainful of xenos. Doing things like maintaining a romantic relationship with, say, a human or unathi are generally frowned upon. Character Name: Tajrhalrr Sokolov Please provide a short backstory for this character Born in the midst of the first revolution, Sokolov’s early days were shaped by years of news of massacres and warfare. Idolizing the PRA and the Hadii family in particular, it came as no shock when he joined the Republican Army at the age of 18, following the president’s assassination. With boots on the ground as part of a brigade, the young Hharar fought against ALA forces during the Winter Offensive. Unfortunately, as war tends to go, in late September 2458, Sokolov was injured in the line of duty, losing his left arm and rendering his right a barely usable mess. For a period of about a year he was out of action until he was able to snag a spot in what would become the PRA’s famous Tesla Brigade, serving with them even past the end of the war and abroad. Years on, with his fur beginning to grey and scars marking his body, the former soldier has become a little disillusioned with his homeland. Witnessing the firebombing of cities just so no one else could have it was the beginning, but with every bit of progress came its own issues so he retired from the military, using his experience in the Tesla Brigade to get jobs working with machines and prosthetics. Now, with a somewhat freshly developed alcoholism and a rather sharp demeanor, he’s landed himself on the SCCV Horizon. What do you like about this character? Due to my own life experiences, I’ve always had a fondness for disheveled old veterans, especially ones who can admit that not everything they did during their career was good. I’ve played characters who grew up in wartorn areas, characters with a hard-on for conflict, but I’ve never actually gotten around to playing a war vet with a nihilistic wit to them. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Pretty good, I’d think, but playing a less “standard” character definitely will take some getting used to.
  15. Not a fan. I like having some degree of unpredictability and I think most people do too. There's a reason you very rarely see people actually vote for anything other than Extended or Secret, unless they're memeing, of course.

  17. Because of all of the berating and people being mad, I wasn't even aware someone had died until Viera used it as proof of me being inept. And that's fine, but with the last issue with a potential riot, I didn't know that was happening. I was barely told what was going on, and considering the literal next event we me getting told to get fucked when I inquired why I heard shooting, it started to feel less IC, at least imo.
  18. I'll be real with you, OOC I've never met either character, nor was I aware of their relationship. ICly, with the character being literally BRAND NEW to the ship, she wouldn't have known either. From there, no one actually informed me of why she attacked Officer Yeo. I lacked quite a lot of context, in part because no one seemed to want to tell me. I understand why the machinist had beef with me now, at least. Had I been aware of the relationship, I'd've had XO Abadi apologize profusely give her condolences at the very least. Abadi isn't supposed to be cold, in fact, she's supposed to be antithetical to my OTHER XO who is more cold and calculating. That sort of got degraded by the round because I was just getting tired of being shit on throughout the round.
  19. Thing is, I wasn't THAT late. Part of the reason I WAS late was that, IIRC, he revealed himself during a radstorm. I could not get to security without harm, and even if I did I wouldn't have had the ability to even enter the armory. There was literally nothing else I could have done in that situation without giving myself major radiation sickness. Yes, someone died, but to my knowledge he was the one of the first one attacked. Even if I had ran through rads and done what I needed to, I'm fairly certain he STILL would have died. I told them why I was delayed, AND I apologized. Again, why did I get flack for this? I was dealing with things on deck 3, and a machinist rushed them on deck 1. There is NOTHING there that has to do with me. In fact, when I got down there to deal with the shooting, I asked who was responsible and when I was told what happened, I just dismissed everyone and left. I didn't press the issue further, I didn't say Yeo was on thin ice, nothing. I wasn't even aware that they were close to rioting because I was being bombarded by insults and questions of what I was doing, despite me literally telling them I was checking on the injured machinist. Could I have handled the situation better? Definitely, but when it feels like every other message was an insult, I'm not exactly going to be understanding what's going on. And considering security just stood around, taking my "hold on a moment" as literally as possible, it almost like they were setting me up to fail.
  20. BYOND Key: SinfulBehaviors Game ID: It was the round directly before ci6-agKw Player Byond Key/Character name: I don't know either of their CKeys, but their characters are Hannah Yeo and Ester Viera Reason for complaint: Alright, so, I made a new XO for my whitelist trial in order to try different vibes in the same job. It turned out to be a ling round, and, clearly, shit hit the fan. During a radstorm where I was sheltered by science since a scientist and I were moving an SSD ling there. During that duration, I believe another one revealed himself and sec had their hands full. They asked me to open their armory, and I believe I asked them to give me a moment. I ran up to the bridge to bring myself to Interim Captain status (mostly because I had forgotten the laptop upstairs,) so I could actually get in there and let them in, which I had the AI announce so I didn't keep stopping to type. During all of this, sec was yelling at me to go faster and open everything up. Immediately upon doing that, I sprinted down to sec and opened the armory and made sure they were armed. All of this is really just setup. I admit that I was slow. I'm new to command, and I didn't make the best decisions in leaving essential items elsewhere, and I don't begrudge security for being pissy with me in that moment. The issue is that that pissiness lasted the entire rest of the round, sorta harming my want to keep playing. Sec got their guns, pasted the ling, I apologized for being so slow and then as I was putting crew armory weapons away, I overhear that a machinist had shown up, tried to grab Yeo's shotgun, and it went off and hurt the machinist. I, due to tons of people all yelling at once, dropped in and asked what the hell was going on. I got quite a lot of flak for asking who shot the machinist, and once I was told it was an accident, I didn't press the issue further. However, an argument started to break out with Mobius and a few members of sec due to him needing repairs, and I told them all to disperse and go back to their departments, then told Sec they were to turn their weapons in. They showed up and just...chucked their guns and armor on the ground. When I asked if anyone was going to help me (since there was SO MUCH) the only person who helped was a single white Taj. The rest just ditched. Once I finished, I left and they were standing around in and when I asked for who pasted the ling and they started waffling around about it being a team effort despite (IIRC) them literally naming someone earlier. After that, eventually, they faced off against someone who was THOUGHT to be a ling. Three sec officers had guns drawn, ready to move in. I, based on the AI's recommendation, went in to make sure the machinist wasn't dead since all of sec seemed to have left them there in poor health. This got sec on my case because I wasn't giving them orders. Yeo and Viera in particular were caustic, with Viera blaming me for someone's death earlier, calling me braindead, saying "is the captain's braindead-ness spreading" and just over all being shitty. Someone eventually shot the possible ling in the face, and he was carted off to medical. Turns out, yes, he was a ling, and sec had to shoot him. When I asked why there was shooting, Viera cussed at me and Yeo essentially told me to keep my nose out of it. Because, sure, that's reasonable when the interim captain is asking what's happening. This all culminated in Viera losing her fucking mind on comms and essentially blaming me for everything. Since she'd been doing this for so long and just wouldn't stop, I suspended her as I threatened to earlier. The aforementioned machinist decided to attack me and just...no one tried to help. Viera is understandable since she was, well, suspended and let me know it, but Yeo was there and chimed in with Viera's "so sorry" as I was literally dragged away. I'm not begrudging them for being antagonistic toward me. Hell, Felix Fleeter also did the "so sorry" stuff since I had issues with him earlier, but I don't care because it seemed reasonable. I understand why he'd do it. Problem is that Yeo and Viera specifically had no reason to be as antagonistic as for as long as they were. We had maybe 30-45 minutes where everything was fine, but after my slow response to opening their armory they were just really shitty to me for the rest of the session, to a degree that feels almost ridiculous from an IC stand point. At some point, it just started to feel bitter and mean. It's really sucked the want to play outta me for the moment since I was trying my best and I apparently ended up crossing some people who decided to be shitty for the rest of the round. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation?: No, because by the point that it felt irredeemably shitty, the round had ended, and when I realized no one was coming to help me, I just said fuck it and left since the round was going to end in a few minutes anyways. Approximate Date/Time: 7/24 5:45-8:30pm EST

  22. Can do, my man. If either of my characters end up getting development that make them less horrible people, I'll run the promotion by you again. Regardless, I don't believe I'm going to be playing HoS for my evaluation period, so this is a little moot atm, but it's good to get it out of the way.
  23. This. People are talking about it being smelly and unhealthy, but neither of those are reflected in-game. I've seen the game mention smelling cleaning products more than cigarettes. We are also are hundreds of years in the future, and while I don't think we have a cure for cancer, cigarettes don't seem to cause as bad of a cancer than they do in our time. Neither of those should be used as an argument in game unless they're actively reflected in-game. My current main, a surgeon, has gotten into an actual boxing match in order to get a guy to stop smoking in medbay. While I don't think that would happen for everyone who smokes in banned areas, it definitely would cause way more conflict than needed.
