Since we have sofas now, I propose we change the chairs in the bar's booths. making them sofas would make them look like...well, actual booths. Example:
-
Eh, I'm not really a fan of that. I feel like keeping the bar as a lounge would be more interesting. Maybe make it vaguely food court-y and have a room with seating, Bar on one side and kitchen on the other?
-
While I actually agree with your thoughts on break rooms, how exactly would you suggest merging them?

Feedback thread - a few new gun sprites
SinfulBehaviors replied to kyres1's topic in Completed Projects
Alright, I'm not entirely sure how to handle this, because I don't want to come off as a dick, but I have very strong opinions on this. These weapons are...mixed. Some of these are really good, but some of them are really...not. First things first, the aesthetic. I'm not opposed to the more plastic-y designs, but I think they're too bright. I agree with Schwann that they look like toys, but the overall idea is fine. On the other hand, the ballistics are iffy. The beige-ish brown that .45s have at the moment is, imo, incredibly ugly. But I can't exactly group them all into this paragraph because, well... Second, consistency, or rather the fact that there kind of isn't any. Previously, there were two consistent aesthetics. For energy weapons, you had a lot of deep blacks and greys with glowing blues, reds, or greens. For ballistics, you had gun metal and wood. Easy, simple, fairly common sense. But now, some energy weapons are white, some are brown, some of the ballistics are brown (???) and some of them look like they're made of aluminum, the pump shotgun is designed like a weird cross between the laser rifle and the .45, and it's just messy. I'd recommend picking a specific aesthetic for the ballistics and energy weapons and sticking with it. Besides making them look better, they'll also be way easier to read on the fly. For more other criticisms I haven't addressed yet: besides the sniper, all the blasters are not improvements, The bullpup is fairly janky in the actual bullpup part. The grenade launcher feels...flat, kinda simplistic. The energy rifle feels fairly bulbous, the Uzi looks worse than the previous version, the tommy gun has lost most of it's aesthetic, the pocket rifle is just a sorta big pistol. And, well, the big one: The Lawgiver and ECarbine...are dreadful. I don't know what criticism I can give to those, quite honestly, because I think the whole design is bad. The ECarbine almost looks like a Zip 22. For full favor of not being entirely negative, there are some changes I really like. The bolter and plasma shotty are very good, The shape and model of the revolvers and .45s are really good even if I hate the coloring, the bolt action and obrez are VERY good, and the auto revolver is FUCKING INCREDIBLE. -

Allow Vampires to be Acknowledged ICly WITHIN Reason
SinfulBehaviors replied to Zer0Winds's topic in Rejected Policy
I gotta agree with Faye here. If a vamp is flashing folk or veil stepping, those are things that could be explained through science, right? But when that dude suddenly sprouts fangs and starts sucking a person's blood, that's the point when it's time to call a vamp a vamp. It should be on the players to actually be reasonable about it and not just immediately drop the v-word. Changing the vamps to be a space monster would be lame, IMO. Like, we have only a few round types where we get to suspend our disbelief and trend into more fantasy elements. We should keep those as to not just drop everything into hard, serious sci-fi all the time. -
I can speak to her medical competence. As Azzam I've ended up in surgery a few times and died on the table more often than not. In one round, despite some pretty bad damage, Sanaa quickly and efficiently patched me up and got me back to work. I've played with her CMO a few times, and I really enjoyed the character. She seemed to be good at her job too. +1.

I agree, but only for reducing the amount of space it takes. Candle boxes are tiny and shouldn't take up the same space as, say, a donut box.

Ramke's Command (CE) Application
SinfulBehaviors replied to Ramke's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
God yes. Freya and Val are characters I love interacting with, no matter which character I'm playing. They're all clear, concise, friendly, and most important of all, efficient, Val especially. Times when they've been interim, they've always been great at their job. An obvious +1. -
Merry Christmas, Darling - Azzam's Christmas Caper

Thank you! -
Azzam Amari [12:48]: dude i need your help. Julian Chet [12:48]: What's up? Azzam Amari [12:49]: i was looking for a christmas gift for halina, so i looked up things that might work regarding her scarab upbringing. Julian Chet [12:49]: Mhm? Azzam Amari [12:49]: and one extranet site said that they have a huge thing about weapons so i got this really beautiful, ornate scarab-esque dagger made. Julian Chet [12:50]: That's really sweet. I don't see the problem. Azzam Amari [12:50]: chet buddy pal that's how you propose in scarab culture. Julian Chet [12:53]: Oh Oh Oh god. Maybe just...keep it in a drawer or something. Azzam Amari [12:54]: I ALREADY PUT IT IN HER MAILBOX. Julian Chet [12:54]: Azzam, oh my god. “So, what you’re telling me is that you only looked more into it after you’d already got home.” Chet said over the rumble of the shuttle. The pair had boarded in a rush and were still bucking in even as the ship was taking off. “Look man, you know I don’t think things through.” Azzam sighed, nervously fiddling with his hair. “I just--- when I saw the fucking knife idea, I thought it’d be wonderful...I just kinda went for it.” He rubbed the bridge of his nose and groaned. Clearly, he wasn’t having a fun time. “Well, what if she says yes?” Chet giggled, but he ended up shrinking into his chair when the other engineer glared at him. “...I think she’d be understanding if you just...told her that you made a mistake.” “Yeah but...being a Scarab is important to her. Her face lights up every time she talks about her culture or if there’s another one on shift...it’s adorable…” He trailed off with a smile, staring off into space dreamily. Suddenly he blinked and shook his head, continuing. “The issue is, even if it’s a funny misunderstanding, I still made a fundamental mistake and didn’t actually pay attention to her culture. I would hope she’d be understanding...but I don’t wanna risk it.” “So you’d rather steal from her mailbox than talk it out?” The short one jeered. “Oh I’m sorry Mister ‘Get In The Locker,’ are my choices not reasonable to you?” The tall one spat. “Fair enough.” ~~~~~~~~ Finally on the Odin, the pair hastily jogged through the station. “Azzaaaaaaam, wait up! You’re faster than me!” Chet said, trailing behind the frontiersman. “Dude, look, we’ve got time! Don’t exhaust yourself!” Azzam scoffed as he lumbered through the hall. “You’re exhausting yourself. Find a way to go faster.” He snickered, turning to face Chet with a smirk. “Maybe I should get you a pair of those sneakers with the wheels in ‘em for Christmas.” Chet gave him a sour look, then nodded a few times. “I...actually would like that.” He mumbled. “Regardless, I wanna get this done as quickly as possible. I want a smooth, nice holiday with the woman I love.” The Frontiersman continued. “You know, without doing something dumb...I feel like recently I’ve done enough dumb shit recently that now I’m riding a razors edge here.” Finally, they arrived at the tram. Unfortunately, it was just leaving. Azzam groaned and threw his hands up. “Augh, that fucking figures.” “Hey! Remember what you said to me? Keep your head up and don’t worry...or something like that.” The blonde giggled, quickly flagging down a gruff looking worker. “Hey, can you tell us when the next tram is coming?” “It isn’t.” Said the bearded Odin worker. “...Come again.?” “We got maints do to on the tracks. Ain’t anotha one comin’ for bout twenty minutes.” Amari tossed his hands into the air and turned around, walking away as he rubbed his face. “Look, Azzam, we can still get there before she checks her mail.” The smaller engineer assured. “She’s on shift now, right? We can get there way before she even gets home.” “Shift’s ending in…five minutes.” Azzam said, checking his watch. “We definitely won’t...unless…” He started to grin, a grin that always signalled a horrible plan. “Watch this.” “No- what are you doing-- Azzam.” Chet watched helplessly as his friend slipped through the open windoors and onto the tram’s platform. “Are you actually gonna run all the way there, thupid?” Azzam snickered and nodded. “I’m faster than you. It’ll be a cinch.” With a wink, he dashed off down the line. He kept going, past a few stops until he got to a drop. Normally, the tram would be the one going down, but that wasn’t happening today. The frontiersman hopped on a ladder and slid down the hole, immediately taking off again as soon as he landed, gunning it until he got to Halina’s stop. A quick rewiring of a door and he was back on the platform, quickly navigating into the apartment sector. He slowed up, wheezing as he took a few deep breaths. Her apartment wasn’t that far off now. He entered the hallway, passing a short blond--- He stopped. He turned. “Chet? How did you--” Chet was leaning on the wall, eating some candies from a bag. “Elevators.” The frontiersman blinked a few times, then scratched his chin. “Hhhhhhuh.” he wheezed, smirking blankly. “I guess that would’ve been easier…” “I was trying to tell you that, dude.” “Okay but my way was cooler.” The pair proceeded down the hall, finally stopping at the mail boxes. “Right, which one’s Halina’s?” The blond asked, passing his friend a screwdriver. “We’re gonna wanna do this fast.” Azzam silently slid over to the boxes, unsecuring and dismantling the top of Halina’s dropbox. He deftly retrieved a yellow gift box with a red bow, just about the length of his forearm. A little sigh and he smiled, obviously relieved. “Perfect.” “So now you’re gonna put in the new present.” Chet stated with a smile. “Good thinking.” “...Other present…?” Azzam blinked. “...oh god.” “Azzaaaaaaaaam.” Suddenly, a ping, and an announcement that a tram arrived. The frontiersman jumped, fumbling with the gift, then chucking it at the other engineer. “Take it and go, just give it back next shift we’re on! I’ll fix this here.” Chet scuttled down the hall, rounding the corner and getting out of sight. Azzam furiously fixed the box, placing a hand on the finished product...until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He spun around and saw Halina, a slightly confused expression on her face. “Az?” She gestured. “What are you doing here?” “Oh-- uh-- I wasn’t sure if I was gonna get to see you today.” He stammered, patting his bag. “I was gonna put your Christmas gift in your mail. Lemme just…” He rummaged around for a moment, attempting to look like he was actually doing something. Finally, a sigh escaped his lips. “I...I forgot it at home.” Halina leaned in and gave him a kiss on the cheek, a clearly amused expression on her face. “I appreciate the thought, Az. Just give it to me next time we’re on shift together.” She gestured. “Since you’re here already...do you wanna come over? You can tell me more about what we’re supposed to do today.” The frontiersman smiled and nodded. “I’d love that, hun.” He hummed as he took her hand, being led away. But, before he was pulled too far, he glanced back and saw Chet, a massive grin on his face, and two thumbs up. Azzam nodded back and smirked, returning the thumbs up as he turned his attention back to his girlfriend. “Merry Christmas, dude.” ~~~~~~~~ Not a long story, but I hope you guys enjoy it. I'll probably do more stories, so consider this a first run. (Also these paragraphs looked longer on the google doc)

Byond key: sinfulbehaviors Discord key: SinfulBehaviors Character Name: Hearse Item name: Hearse's Jaw Item function(s): An aesthetic mask slot item to make it appear that he's missing synth skin on his face. Item description: The exposed jaw of the forensic technician. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Well, it's his jaw. How did your character obtain this item: Being owned by a very lenient and nice woman, Hearse has been allowed to make changes to his appearance, and one of those decisions he's made is to strip the skin from his nose and mouth area, revealing the jaw underneath, a slight nod to the fact that he's only ever worked in death related work. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: Aesthetic changes are little bit of freedom that he enjoys, and being able to change his Sprites: Additional Comments: I've attached the DMI files below. I would also need it to be flagged as unremovable so it can't be stolen or removed on death. hearse_face.dmi

SinfulBehaviors Shell Application
SinfulBehaviors replied to SinfulBehaviors's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Well, first of all an IPC's most basic and overriding directive is self-preservation. While a human may run into danger and act erratically in the face of danger, IPCs will specifically take steps to prevent damage to protect their positronic brain. They can and do interpret this differently between individual units though. While they have the ability to feel in some sense, they don't feel emotions the same way people do either. Again, it's different between bots, but it's still never the same as people. Simulation can only get you so far. Death is different in the manner that they're not "dead" until the positronic is rendered permanently inoperable, and dismantlement, but not deactivation, is frequently used as a punishment for crimes committed by Free IPCs, but the owner of non-free IPCs are completely within their rights to dismantle and reassemble their machines to their hearts content. Jennifer took more of an liking to Hearse when he began showing interests into things such as clothing and fashion, body art, and music, all things that he dealt with in his his job, but took a deeper interest in. As far as her new job, she's tried a few different jobs, including being a damn fine taxidermist, but has nicely settled into a job as a hospice aide. Her family consists of her, her 16 year old daughter Ava and her 15 year old son Alister, who have been friendly with the shell for 12 years now. Hearse has a weird relationship with freedom. While he likes the concept of being free, and does acknowledge that being free would be good for him, knowing that free IPCs are discriminated against and run the risk of being dismantled over non-serious crimes makes him wary to attempt freedom. Regarding death, due years of working as a mortician and lack of experience with people he knows dying, he is a bit blasé with it. He understands that it is unfortunate and very sad for those involved, he doesn't quite get it. This can cause him to seem a little callous, but he's trying his best. -
BYOND Key: SinfulBehaviors Character Names: Amira Amari, Azzam Amari, Celestine LaCroix Species you are applying to play: IPC, specifically Shell. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Aye. I also read into the pages for the Skrell's Three Incidents, Synthetic Origins, The Trinary Perfection, and the factions. Why do you wish to play this specific race: To be completely honest, I had the idea for this design when @ChevyChevron mentioned his idea for shell who just has most of their face missing. At the time I assumed that it would be too much work to implement in game, but I started to think about how to actually implement him and got sort of determined to get him in. Plus RPing with @Faye <3's shell Parting Glass made me really wanna play one too. They're very interesting. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, first and foremost, the nature of the mechanics, pun fully intended, of IPCs allows for a roleplay that is a bit restrictive in some aspects, but not in a boring way. One of the first things is the uncanny valley-esque mannerisms. IPCs are very close to humans in speech and behaviors, but not quite there. One example would be speech patterns that are slightly stilted, such as "I am going to proceed to the medical bay" or "I do not think this is the best option." They are not essentially metal humans, nor should they be played that way. For a more gameplay driven example, IPCs are able to work in different situations from organics. In a moment where an antagonist has gassed some members of security, an IPC officer could potentially subdue and detain the suspect or alternatively grab his comrades and bring them to safety. They cannot deal with every situation, however, and should avoid dealing with antags with EMPs, particularly due to their "self-preservation" coding. Character Name: Hearse Please provide a short backstory for this character: Hearse is a shell built for Roswell and Ashe Funeral Home in Craterview, Biesel. Originally intended for mortuary use, he managed to make friends with Jennifer Ashe, one of the two owners and slowly was integrated into the Ashe family. Ethan Roswell, his other co-owner, started to resent Hearse due to his now lessened workload and increased freedom, and made the move to sell him off to the highest bidder. Unfortunately the highest bidder was Miss Ashe, who gave away her share of the funeral home in order to keep the shell out of other people's hands. Unfortunately, since Miss Ashe no longer owned the funeral home, Hearse had to get a new job. Considering his experience and knowledge on the subjects of death and the bodies of various species, he pivoted to another morbid profession. Working for the Craterview Police Department, he began working as an apprentice to the coroner, but slowly learned more pieces of police work, specifically taking interest in the work of forensic technicians. Part of the freedoms he has as a pseudo-family member of the Ashes is the ability to choose how to present himself, and as such he has removed some of the synth skin from his face, revealing his metal endoskeleton underneath. This is purely an aesthetic choice for him, mostly due to the morbidity of his job history and also because he feels it makes him interesting. Character art for reference. What do you like about this character?: First, he's a forensic tech. CSI work on the server is fairly neat and a bit underrepresented in my opinion. From there, an IPC who is free, but not really, allows for an interesting character dynamic in whether or not he'll actually attempt full freedom. My initial design for him, I think, is super cool, and just the idea of a mortuary bot becoming a CSI is kinda great. Notes: For full effect of the design, I'd also need a custom item. I've already sprited one out, did a little code, and tested it in a private server. Obviously, this is a Species Whitelist and not a Custom Item Application, so depending on the reaction to the design and character, I'll be applying there immediately.

If your character had a theme what song would it be?

I completely disagree with removing it from rotation. Every now and then, people like having a round where we get to be a bit LRP. After multiple strict secret and extended rounds, having a moment where we get to muck around a little bit is nice. Hell, if you get a good wizard, then the HRP continues, just not in a canon way. The issue is that people dislike Wiz because there aren't a lot of good wiz players out there. It's part of the reason people hate on Ling, too. Honestly, if we started removing things from secret that people complain about a lot, we'd end up with secret rotation being Burglars, Raiders, Mercs, Autotraitor, and nothing else. I don't think enough people genuinely hate wizard enough for it to be removed. Plus, if we did remove it from the lineup, I think Wiz rounds would end up being super rare. During high-pop hours I've only ever seen people vote for things other than secret and extended like...five-ish times, and two of those times, a Borer round and a Ling round, people ended up unreadying so it wouldn't actually go through, then secret won out afterwards. Relegating it to vote only feels like it would just dummy out the round type unless people meme hard enough, and that just kinda sucks.

Give Roboticists Medical Record Access!
SinfulBehaviors replied to Faye <3's topic in Completed Projects
I don't see why not. Hell, the other day I needed to see the roboticists on staff about broken augments, so it'd be nice for them to actually know a little bit more about the characters they're literally doing surgery on. -
I mean, we already have Non-Coalition Frontier as an accent, and I've love to be able to develop characters from areas outside the CoC, like the Badlands, Lights Edge, and The Clash. As far as Wildlands, Chevy made the observation that there planets that aren't frontier that are ALSO unaffiliated, so they should be properly represented too. It's nothing gameplay related, but I feel like it's a little QoL thing that would make everything a little bit better.
-
Agreed. Engineering already has ladders to the sub-level, so why not research?
-
I like this idea. Low pop cult is really kinda awful, and making it need more players pretty good fix. Although, this would end up giving us less cult rounds, but I don't really have an issue with that.
