I gave my personal opinion and separated it from the design consequences I laid out; when I've made characters that fit the theme I have them smoke. In addition I'm remembering the conflict caused when people smoke in or near medbay. That kind of confrontation may spread thru the entire ship if we ban smoking outside designated lounges. Could we have both worlds? Dedicated smoking areas, and not a total ban on smoking? A smoker's bar?

Sorry man i don't understand the question?

Oh trust me i agree they're nasty as hell lol. It's still a good part of completing certain characters aesthetic archetypes.

We have meta-server historical precedence. Entire star nations emerge out of the aether, and entire new religions have also emerged out of the aether for existing factions. As well, do you think we'd have to remove the existing faiths? What could be the balance to keep them present while transitioning the focus to our 3 big human faiths? What do you think about implementing homebrewed while letting people play the usuals? Because i do want this and think what we have doesnt do it too much. People grasp at the scraps of humanity faith we have. I really think it would reinvigorate this element of roleplay. As for whether it would happen -- that's up to the community! You know - us

I think the point is more so 4 vs our hundreds, which then splinter into thousands.

Smoking exists as an aesthetic for noir- or grunge- characters. Relegating people to lounges will break the cool factor of cigarettes and overall reduce their use. Which -- on one hand good theyre nasty -- should be considered. It's not unreasonable for someone to choose to not smoke if they have to move to a special room to do it. Smoking on sprites is meant to be seen passively, not acted out for itself, except in dramatic moments. Such as stomping one out to emphasize a point, etc.

I actually agree. Factions are extremely segregated and there's no syncreticism in them. It's almost a faux pas to play a christain unathi or a Sk'akh tajara. The interplay between faiths is extremely barren. We can see how people do enjoy syncretic cultures -- dominia is the only (problematic) example of blended faiths, with its human and unathi ideas meeting, melding, and creating something new. What would it look like if we reinvigorated the human faiths? How many do you think we should have?

Good guide +1

Thank you for replying! It sounds like you want to see our contemporary religions evolved to a new form, but it's still recognizable? On one end of the spectrum where my preference is, its like Star Sector's Church of Ludd. It gestures towards being abrahamic but it is wildly homebrewed. The other end wouls be mormons in Fallout: New Vegas, where it's a 1:1 -- through its titular Joshua Graham. You seem to be on the more NV side of the spectrum? Judaism -- in SPACE! Lol im being silly at the end there; let me know if i got you down right

Awhile ago caelphelon remarked they have the plot for the lore plotted out a few months ahead. On the skrell app theres also this required field: "1. Your plans for the future of Skrell, and their involvement in the affairs of the Orion Spur." Im not interested in skrell lore development personally, i wanted to ask how much freedom a newly hired skrell lore dev would have. How malleable is the plot? What level of control does a writer have over their species' destiny? It would be valuable to know so people have an idea, even a rough one, of how ambitious they can be in their apps. Thanks!

Scarab Fixes(Warlord-b-gone!)

Hard agree. This is what i was wanting to say but said better and more thoughtfully. A very good look at it and OP. -
Scarab Fixes(Warlord-b-gone!)
Marlon P. replied to ImmortalRedshirt's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
I agree with redshirt and their OP is pretty good. The writing of scarabs being violent etc is inconsistent with the lore and how the characters tend to be played onstation. It would also be neat to have less warmongering in the lore, since it is a trope of auroraverse to be like a strategy game AAR sometimes on factions where its inconsistent -- see OP. Its also not boring if a faction itself isnt throwing its weight around bcuz players arent playing the faction, theyre playing characters. Factions are characters for loredevs to RP as, where chars are what players use to interact with the rest of the galaxy as a faction member. Thats my rephrasing in my words what redshirt said in their reply. I think i got it right? +1 -
cute idea. i like it! more personality on the ship.

[Accepted] Unathi recent history
Marlon P. replied to Marlon P.'s topic in Lore Canonization Deferred Acceptance
Makes sense, ill edit the OP. You have 24 hours. Thats 48.7 minutes per page. Starting... NOW! -
Lore Impact (Small/Medium/Large): Medium. Species: (Skrell, Tajara, Human, Vaurca, Dionae, Unathi, Synth, General) Unathi Short Description: A proposal for summarizing unathi recent history onto the wiki history page for unathi history. My direct submission to the wiki got lost to the aether and i cant go back to make edits. Editing from a player wiki account is confusing so im putting it here so i can see it and not lose it. How will this be reflected on-ship?: Its a wiki submission. More unathi lore knowledge. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: No wiki summary of unathi recent history as defined by article lore does. Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team? Yes. Long Description: It comes in about 13,500 words and 25 pages. All articles are hyperlinked and all hyperlinked articles are dated. https://docs.google.com/document/d/157ys4e-LPkXbOjxK8gO1_KCyyb-kbswvLknGMM_8lDM/edit?usp=drivesdk

I really don't like players interacting with things that are noncanon on a canon round. We should really avoid that where possible. Because of that I'd rather see them just removed or reworked or a rule forbidding their creation without being an antag. Otherwise if they stay; the lore is entirely up to us. We can just say magic exists. Nothing is stopping us.

Complaint on Stev - rule 1 violations
Marlon P. replied to Marlon P.'s topic in Complaints Boards Archive
These are more tactics from that website in the OP about emotional abuse. I feel like theyre using emotional blackmail by taking on the role of a victim when their behavior is being examined, and again they turn it around to add more examples on how i am a bad person -- see post on how i hyperanalyze after making 'overly dramatic and incindierary posts.' I'm sorry that you're experiencing hardship. I obviously cant fully appreciate your circumstances and i hope it improves. However nothing going on in our lives justifies taking it out on other people. I don't deserve abuse nor does anyone else. -
Complaint on Stev - rule 1 violations

I do admit my final post was dramatic. I was upset with the negativity i was getting and didn't phrase my apology in a more sincere sounding way. That doesn't justify using abusive language targetting me. -
Complaint on Stev - rule 1 violations
Marlon P. replied to Marlon P.'s topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I never targetted pride flags to any specific player. The first day for fun i did it to all messages on all channels. Then I went to four emojis on screen. Then just one to three. Someone was talking about screen space being eaten up so i was doing it less so i went to one. The only rule i had was to have one pride flag visible somewhere whenever i looked at a chat. All reactions were randomly selected based on whatever message my thumb landed on. -
BYOND Key: MarlonPhoenix Game ID: Lore_general discord. Player Byond Key/Character name: Stev. Staff involved: Alberyk. Reason for complaint: Rule 1 violation. I've been reacting to posts with pride flags for pride month to celebrate, during a time in my country where our community is facing growing danger. This has been getting some people annoyed, which ive been critical od but also toning it down to just be every now and then until moderators told me to stop entirely, which i accepted after asking for alternatives. I accepted staff decisions even while being critical of it and saying how it made me feel, as a gay man, to be told to stop expressing pride during pride month. When it was all resolved by discord moderation staff, which I forgot loredevs were nowadays, Stev @'d me to draw me into a fight with confrontational language. They then used abusive behavior to belittle and demean me, talking about my misbehavior, saying I'm playing the victim, etc, and it seemed like I was supposed to feel beneath them. Please see: "I'm sorry but it's not on me when you refuse to not be shitty and continually disregard other people then play the victim game when someone calls you out on it." They used goading and blame to upset me, and when I responded, they pinned the blame back on me for being sensitive and incompetent. I recognized these behaviors as signs of abuse using the following definitions. https://www.healthline.com/health/signs-of-mental-abuse#accusing-blaming-and-denial This is after accusing me of only pretending to care about pride month as a way to steamroll over queer people. They asked me to stop but I did not want to, and they apparently took offense at not being able to control what I'm doing in a public discord. Only moderation staff is permitted to do that. Stev has no right to tell me what i can or cant do, nor am I expected to tailor what i do in public servers to their personal preferences. I told them how they were talking to me was sounding like they were being abusive, and how they were being mean. I stopped enaging and was trying to tell them how their behavior was bothering me. Edit: im going to preempt the accusation by saying im not complaining about someone being critical of what I was doing. A few people were and we disagreed about it. Stev is the only one that broke the rules in how they treated me. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Alberyk said to stop, and that both sides were having a pissfight. I don't feel this was enough because I was the one being @'d, and stev went out of their way to go after me for a resolved problem. It violated rule 1. also im on mobile. Im sorry if the logs post out of order Approximate Date/Time: ~3:20pm CST.
