I don't want another one, it's already irritating enough to have people spam finger snaps. It'll just be another spammy emote with sound effects.
-
Is this even a serious suggestion. Don't we already have enough stupid memes in the game without adding another one? And seriously? Give it a chance to actually make a bang sound? Voting for dismissal on account of how stupid this is even though I'm not a Dev.

No. It's not. The tag system in the security records contains a number of tags aside from 'wanted', such 'incarcerated', 'parole', and 'released'. Beepsky and other securitrons only respond to one of those, because they're from a primordial time of lower roleplay and haven't been removed yet because people still think it's funny or memey The system exists to allow people wearing sec HUDs to receive easy information about people of interest to the security team. The 'wanted' status (or search status) is not there to replace communication, and in fact I I frequently see security members who try to summarily arrest wanted people being shutdown by their own team.
-
Again, this is a quality of life improvement. It's not about whether you're allowed to search them or not, it's about tagging someone as a person of interest that they want searched. If you have a security HUD, you should be able to identify the person that needs to be searched at a glance, just like someone who's wanted for detainment. The same principle of clarifying an unknown wanted target applies here. If you go around searching people just because they have a search tag, like that officers who arrest people because 'they were wanted', then you're bad.

[Policy] On Mind Control Mechanics [Implemented]
Kaed replied to Kaed's topic in Accepted/Implemented Policy
That's some good information. This is the sort of thing that would be useful to put on the vampire wiki page, not just slap it into your enormous rule document. You are correct it's a specific situation, not a general rule. Sure not everyone will read it, but you can also encourage people to read the wiki about their antag type when they become the antag. My main desire is that it's written somewhere, rather than something you find out as you play because admins Bap you when you toe the line. The bit about 'it's okay to order them to follow you somewhere for succ' is pretty crucial too, because I think some people kind of miss that and get really upset, try to find ways around it like saying 'you can only order me to do one action at a time' -
There is no current standards, limitations, or rules on mind controlling someone, specifically the Dominate vampire power. None that are written anyway. Enforcement of these guidelines is entirely based on the admin observing an event, and I have already seen evidence that some staff have different opinions about it. The biggest contention point here: can you force someone to commit suicide? If yes, what situation allows it? I've been told I'm not allowed to do that by admins, and yet see evidence on staff complaint threads that staff members have let it happen with no issue towards the actual domination order. Another point of contention: How much is too much? There also isn't any set standard for this, and I've had defensive players give me different accounts of what they're willing to do to follow an order (and refuse to follow the rest because of self-imposed limits) e.g. dominate command 'walk into maintenance and lay down quietly, don't resist' has some people do it, and others looc me that they're going to ignore the lay down and don't resist part because they think it's too many actions. I've also had admins tell me that an order is too complicated for a dominate command, e.g. 'destroy the AI' I suppose what it boils down to, is it a single or specific number of actions that you can command them to do, or does it has to be something that they can do within a set period of time? Both? (And that's conceptual time, not Literal time, so people don't just drag their feet for 5 minutes after being ordered to steal something from a nearby room and then say whoop I ran out of time) I'm sorry if this seems groan-inducing and frustrating to have to consider, but if you leave it up in the air and just tell people no every time they do something that you don't think they should be able to do, it's going to be inconsistent and frustrating for the player too.

Barista alt-title for bartender + coffee shop
Kaed replied to climax708's topic in Completed Projects
I want my soy latte cappuccino with low-fat foam. >:C I would also like to say that tea varieties would be nice too. There is so many different kinds of teas and ways to prepare them... -
I don't know, I can see where they're coming from. The HUD update for this would allow you to identify the person of interest that needs to be searched from out of a crowd, without relying on the Big W.

This sounds like a pretty interesting idea, but I feel like you would wreak havoc with some situations where a person who is cloned had an important position, like Captain. How do you keep people from getting cloned into whitelisted roles they shouldn't be in? What's the threshold for someone not entering their body before someone else gets it? If it's too short, then people are going to have a situation eventually but they got disconnected after dying, and couldn't rejoin in time to be cloned. If it's too long people are going to wake up on a slab that people assumed was brain-dead.

Anyway, I had a talk with one of the devs, and your idea doesn't really work. You can't have more than one ammo type in a clip, at least not without writing some entirely new code. It would be more feasible to give it a specific number of shots, and make the shots universal purpose. I can kind of get behind that idea, because it's roughly the same, you're just swapping energy for a clip that you can use as you see fit. The gun itself provides the different firing types with its magical bluespace science. Not really a big fan of the multi ammo type clip anyway, it would just lead to a lot of ammo being wasted because no one uses that shot type. I also want to say now, that if you can make a lawgiver, you most certainly can also make a bag of holding. So aside from resource concerns, holding a lot of ammo really is trivial with this change. I still advocate for keeping it as an energy weapon because even if there's a charger sitting right next to you cause you dragged it with you, the gun still only holds one battery at a time and you can't change it out for instant reload. I feel like it would be more reasonable to change the energy values for the weapon (its energy cap, and how much energy each shot takes), so that it charges slower, rather than changing it to a clip.
-
There are not enough general purpose chargers on the station that this change is largely necessary, and I feel you are somewhat trivializing the fact that most people with a lawgiver need to run back to security to recharge their gun. This is also a top-tier highly advanced item from science that shows up maybe one and every 20 rounds at best. Why it can't self fabricate its own rounds from its power source I don't know. For a weapon that has so many different firing modes, it's much tidier to just have it run off an energy source than five different ammo types. Having to switch between ammo types because you ran out of one by verbally commanding the lawgiver in the middle of combat is an awful idea, additionally. That would work in real life, but here we have to stop, stand still, and type out our commands. Requiring it to have expensive rounds just to arbitrarily nerf it feels like it would just make the weapon be even less used. Nor does just trying to counteract the nerf by making the shots more powerful seem like a wise choice. The lawgiver is in a very nice place right now as a high-powered weapon. Giving it magazines and upping its power would also give the potential for people to hold a whole bunch of the magazines in their bag (even if they're more bulky than regular magazines), completely negating the need to go back and recharge it after using it a bunch. I also want to comment that just because something is a reference to another piece of media (judge dredd) it does not mean that we need to follow the same internal logic as the source material. Our lawgiver aside from functioning very similarly on the surface is not the same thing.

Never said they'd block flashes, just add a HUD.. This is mainly to offer alternatives to stupid things like wearing sunglasses over your monitor face.
-
Haven't you guys been nerfing them? Mind you, I don't really play them, but I thought you added like flash vulnerability and some stuff.
-
I had an idea based on something I said in another thread. What if we added a loadout option specifically for IPCs that allowed them to start the round with mods that are installed in their chassis in a manner similar to implants (in that they are not clearly visible on examine, but can be detected with special equipment) except they can be easily added and removed by the IPC and roboticists without invasive surgery. Like USB ports behind a cover. This would allow an IPC to start the round with certain functions such as having a sec or medical HUD, without the need to put on glasses (I'm pretty sure they're capable of running that kind of program onboard), along with potentially other functions that would be reasonable and useful to have on round start. There could also be a portion of the antag store for things like a voice changer mod, something that lets you hack into APCs and unlock the interface panel (and possibly other things IPCs can interface with), maybe even something that lets the IPC overclock itself similar to how the malf AI overclock borg (extra speed, attack power, resistance to Flash, high power usage and heat). I imagine these kind of illegal mods would show up as sort of an unregistered technology when the roboticist scans it. More ideas would be useful to spitball if someone wants to pitch in.
-
I much prefer this idea supplemented with an alternative for IPCs (plug-in scanner node that goes in the same slot? Why don't IPC have more plug-and-play devices?) As opposed to just making the icon disappear.

Okay then https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/issues/4028 Feel free to close the topic.

Body markings exist as a feature in the character select screen. They're neat! What they don't exist in are several antagonist-specific mechanics, such as -Changeling transformations (the markings remain as floating sprite overlays no matter how often you change forms or how awful and gross it looks on the wrong body -Wizard and ninja appearance modifier window (The markings cannot be removed or changed or added with this window)

I will be blunt and not beat around the bush, because people cannot improve if they do not know exactly what is wrong. You have a habit and long history of attacking the people you disagree with rather than arguing with the ideas themselves. Not only with me but a with a good number of people. (I won't bring up specific incidents not involving me and you in the forums, but if you want me to bring up what you already know I can site the incidents I mean in DM's.) You can be very presumptive and abrasive, and in a team environment where you will be working with two others (one of which is in charge of you) and a greater lore/wiki team that is now 10+ members strong I wonder how long you would last without causing issue with the group. It is important to me and weighs heavy on me to ensure that you would be able to put ego or emotion aside and focus on discussing the idea. In the end everyone on the lore team is going after one thing, making the lore better. For full transparency and disclosure, I have an admitted chip on my shoulder when we discussed my ideas for the Unathi religion concept I brought up. Multiple times in your replies you attacked myself, my character, and my intentions instead of discussing the idea. Saying that I was trying to write lore to better the situation for my character, saying that I was being sleazy, ect. Understanding your passion for Unathi as a species, and for discussion on the boards in general, I can see why you didn't like the idea I put forward. However if any of those things were true, would I have posted the ideas on the forums for said scrutinization? In the end you made good points, and were one of the reasons why that idea has been buried. But if that is your first reaction (not even a knee jerk reaction, as it was apparent you took time to write things out), and the way you handle requests for feedback, I need to question how you would fair being in our discord or meetings where we spitball things. Or if you have an idea that we shoot down or go forward with an idea you didn't agree with ect. I'm aware of what you were talking about, but I don't think that right here is the best place for me to begin a specific defense of that situation. I will however and extend an apology that I upset you, I could definitely have been a bit more polite there. I will also add that I feel there is there an entirely different set of expectations when you are working with an official team, as opposed to an independent individual commenting on something. When you have other people that you work with on a regular basis, you have to make sure that they don't all hate you or you're not going to go very far. I believe I am capable of being a team player, and there's not much else I can say here about that other than try me and see. It's not like I'll have a position for life and you can't tell me I need to go if I'm unacceptable as a lore team member. -

Let me pass along one of the main ideas I'm spitballing right now. It's by no means a final draft, and many of the things don't have proper names or territories mapped out, but here it is anyway. My main current project idea right now is with decentralizing the power currently held on Moghes away from the Izweski Hegemony and Jackboot's Maraziite order, which currently dominate all lore related newspapers and events on the unathi homework. Unathi and the Izweski Hegemony has never struck me as a monolithic world government, but rather the most powerful clan in a world where there were once many clans, but now there are far less, along with a lot more radioactive wastelands. After considering the Moghes map for a while and where most of the major events in Jackboot's newspaper articles took place, I settled on the southern parts of Moghes as a viable place to add things in and flesh out. I came up with the idea of both that there is a major clan down there (and they are a major source of food exports, both from fishing and because they have the most untouched lands south of the equator), and a way to bring the Th'akh faith a little bit more into prominence, because Jackboot has been giving the Maraziite and Sk'akh faith far too much screen time for my taste. This territory, while run by a powerful clan, has many other clans under it's wing, and while they pay respect and somewhere between actual fealty and lip service (depending on where you are) to the Izweski Hegemony, they maintain a kind of independence from them in several key aspects, mainly relating to religion (so far). -The primary religion down here is still traditionalist Th'akh -They do not recognize the ecclesiastical authority of the Maraziite Order. -They maintain strong defense of a protected section of lands that contains many mountain temples occupied by Th'akh monks. These temples are as much religious as they are for education of some of the sciences, like astronomy, and medicine. I also have some plans in motion for one of the elder Th'akh shamans stepping forward to make impassioned speeches against the extremism of Yizra Unzi, decrying his methods as unethical and denouncing the Maraziite order for their persecution of the Th'akh faith. I also plan for him to make his own order and call for action, but it will primarily be focused on 'unathitarian' efforts, such as improving the lives of second class citizens such as the growing Guwan population (because even the clanless deserve at least the dignity to not die en mass in ditches), running soup kitchens, helping those who are suffering because of the wasteland. It will also have very 'reformist' take on the occult taint that the Maraziites are gung ho to exterminate. You can only save their souls by returning them to the right path of their ancestors, not by executing them. -
Allow the Check-in/out computer to print a copy of Corporate Regulations
Kaed replied to LordBalkara's topic in Archive
Again, while a load out version would be great, is there a compelling reason why they can't be produced on station? Corporate regulations apply to every crew member, not just security. There shouldn't be a requirement that you go for metadata by going to the wiki. Yes I know the book is just a hyperlink to the wiki, but it's also a hyperlink that exists in game.
