My involvement in the IR did not extend to PMing the people involved. What I got told by Toaster was that we will probably not get Eliade's testimony, and that we would have to move forward without it. We actually waited some days without doing anything, for the sake of the 7 day period, so I don't think that we ignored him on purpose. As for the note, I did the WI stuff, with Toaster doing the actual PMing. Thus, I cannot add anything else of note.

CCIA Staff Application Basic Information Byond key: The lancer Character names: James Norton, James Hilthington, Stavros Nannos, Daniel Lord are the most active currently. Age: 17. 18 in one month. Timezone: GMT +2, EET What times are you most available?: 12:00 - 20:00 Experience How long have you played SS13?: ~ 4 years How long have you played on Aurora?: ~ 3 years How active on the forums, discord and/or server are you? I check in on everything each day. In regards to posting, I tend not to. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have never received any admin action. Have you ever volunteered as moderation staff for any other servers, SS13 or otherwise?: Not on SS13. But I have been an administrator for various roleplay servers on M&B Warband, if that counts. Do you have any other experience that you believe would be relevant to a position in the CCIA?: Not really, but I believe I am somewhat proficient in the use of English. That is, I can write in a more official tone. Personality Why do you want to join the CCIA?: I would like to join the CCIA on the grounds of obtaining a new experience. This would be the first staff position I apply for in the Aurora community, as well as SS13. Furthermore, I always liked having an IC impact, and having a system of an IC centralised way to solve cases and complaints that have a lasting impact in future rounds, I find a very appealing concept. Also, doing something for the community would also be a plus, and due to the recent need for CCIA, I've decided to apply, seeing that I also play on deahour, when it often lacks any agents' presence. All in all, I want to join to try out something I've always been curious about, and to also try stepping into the shoes of the highest IC authority, to add to the round, and to regulate it when such a need arises. What do you think are the most important qualities for a CCIA Agent to possess?: Starting off, since it is an off station agency, impartiality would be a fine attribute for someone to possess. Not engaging yourself emotionally, OOCly, or act based on knowing a player included in a report is "good" or "bad", are also very important when handling an investigation. When it comes to deciding or shaping IC policies, it's great to have a good understanding of what's behind the rules, their meaning, and the goals that IC regulations strive to achieve. To do this, one needs experience in a HRP environment, and a broad knowledge of existing procedures and policies. Lastly, aside from common sense and extreme patience, an agent should most importantly have the will to do his duty. Working as an CCIA can be a very tedious job, as you need to organise, book and carry out interviews of many personnel, a task that can take hours or days. It is crucial that one finds a driving force to keep up, a driving force that comes from enjoying the job. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is in an ongoing round?: CCIA should let the round play out, with minimal to no intervention. This is due to the power they have, through response teams and ultimate authority. However, when station staff reach to them, CCIA should try and keep the game balance, advising station command, or perhaps give goals to the crew to accomplish (e.g. CCIA require additional confirmation/details before sending an ERT, so the crew need to find a way to contact them), while always trying to keep the round fun for as many people as possible. What do you think the purpose of a CCIA Agent is outside of the server?: As staff, CCIA play a sizable role in defining the face of the Aurora community, and should thus try and conduct themselves with an increased level of decency. Agents should behave appropriately when addressed at, being welcoming and giving out a sense of professionalism and courtesy. it is also important for the CCIA to be seen as a guiding force towards proper play and behaviour, rather than a faceless punisher. How do you handle stress?: I believe that I fare pretty well, not really breaking down, but opting to take a break off, and come back with a clear mind. Since I started playing Command, I view stress as a temporary barrier, that's not really there to bog you down, but an opportunity to stop and rethink. How well do you work autonomously?: Although I feel safer with a team surrounding me, I can work on my own, and bring satisfying results. All in all, I can work well on my own, as long as I have some experience and know what to do. Additional Notes: The biggest boundary in my applications has been the fact that not many people know who I am, or interact with me OOCly. This can be attributed to the fact that I have not taken any meaningful steps in getting myself known, and that I mostly play on deadhour. I am not sure if this affects the overall application, but I hope I can change it.

Community Discussion: Multiple jobs - Job hopping - Realism vs Gameplay
The lancer replied to Faris's topic in General
Maybe classify some jobs as "hobbies" or whatever, such as bartender, cook, maybe gardener. It could make a bit of sense for staff to work there on their spare time. But not heads of staff, it would make less sense. -
I believe Abosh would be a good addition to the lore team, even as deputy. He has done much lore work in the past, is always active and plays on the server, so he has some contact with the environment he could be developing lorewise. The fact that he is staff, I don't believe it matters much, since administrating and making lore are two different things. +1

[Accepted] Lancer's IPC application

BYOND Key: The lancer Character Names: Tom Jackson, Daniel Lord, John Smith Species you are applying to play: IPC shell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Synthetics have always been a fascinating thing for me. Their lore, I find appealing. The heated discussions about their freedom, sentient rights and all that have been and are a topic which can also easily be seen in game, many times. Whether adored or hated, IPC's and shells play a large role in station life, bringing in a sci fi feeling into which I wish to join. Furthermore, the recent announcement that synthetics can become IAAs has also given me the opportunity to apply, since I think it would be cool to have a shell IAA character. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The biggest difference is that synthetics are mechanical beings, constructed in order to provide services. This, at first, creates a gap between the social reality in which humans are in and the nature of IPCs. Many are owned, sold or scrapped for parts, entire systems have outlawed them completely, they are many times stripped of any rights, all part of a reality humans can not even imagine being into. The IPC is a programmed machine, with any abilities to comprehend emotions, intentions and any complex thought other humans have, coded into them and varying very much between individual units. Unlike humans, their actions are "colder" and more standardised, such as their speech or reactions. There is also of course, the mechanical side of the game, in which synthetics and their playstyle is very different that humans, due to their durability and their weaknesses to Ion equipment. Character Name: Smith Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Smith is part of a new series of advanced shell units, designed by Hephaestus Industries primarily for office use and bureaucratic duties. This new line of production aims at providing fast learning staff, who are programmed to be PR friendly and professional at their work. Whether handling complaints, suggesting action or solving issues between personnel, Smith excels at courtesy and respect, while handling criticism and verbalities is a very easy task. Straight out of the factory, with a few weeks programming and coding by Nanotrasen, this new investment is to be tested aboard select Nanotrasen facilities while fulfilling the role of the Internal Affairs Agent. A quite pricy product nonetheless, Smith is one of the units bought by the megacorporation. A paperwork and company protocols master, deprived of any complex feelings or emotions, tasked to smile and be professional, it is ready to embark on its first journey, and join the wide arsenal of equipment Nanotrasen possesses. What do you like about this character? A perfect bureaucrat, emotionless and only focused at his task and company interests How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10 Notes: Sorry if the backstory was not long, but that's all there is to Smith. A cold, professional tool.

[Resolved] Player Complaint SleepyWolf
The lancer replied to Gollee's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I was the HoS in two of such rounds where sleepy was a loyalist HoP. In the first round, I was a loyalist too. Sleepy raised his own private levy and started acting like a captain, ordering security and making an example of a dead rev in the holodeck. All that was fine in my opinion, as I reacted and rallied remaining security elements to stage a coup, which ended in a bloodbath and was followed by vendetta guerilla warfare after conversation and rp. All in all, it was a very fun round, at least for me, and it wouldn't have happened if Sleepy did not act as he did. The other round was almost a carbon copy, but I was not a loyalist and released the inmates for lack of evidence. Sleepy had his own men again, and attempted to arrest me and the captain (who was essentially only a figurehead without giving orders or taking part). Loyalists are antagonists too, and I believe that the chain of command in the case of antagonists is not to be an obligation they should follow. As long as there is roleplay and fun, antags can do stuff that do not abide by IC rules. -
BYOND Key: The lancer Character Names: Stavros Nannos, Tom Jackson, Lincoln Stough Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Dark Green Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've been playing humans from the start and I would like to explore the Unathi world. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Unathi race is one of a different playstyle from Humans, obviously mechanic wise, but lore wise as well. At first, we must look at the backstory of the Unathi. They come from a war torn planet, with characteristics ranging from resembling medieval Europe, to resembling a modern world with all comforts depending on the location. This makes Unathi have vastly different views and lifestyles, unlike humans who are not experiencing such a shift. Attempting to fit what took centuries of humanity to discover in a timeframe of just a few decades tears their world apart, causing great divides. Another part is the Unathi culture itself. Being a species highly tied with their tradition, honour and past, they play differently from humans. Unathi value tradition more than money, family more than profit. This makes them more likely to defend what they believe is true, sometimes at the expense of their career. A proper Unathi should not take insults well, and should have less patience when insults are hurled at them. Honour is a priority, and something worth defending even when the cost is high. Character Name: Essizr Ozoss Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Essizr was born into a clan leading family. The Ozoss Clan is a minor, virtually unimportant Clan de facto subjugated to the Izweski Hegemony. Essizr is the 3rd son of the Clan Leader. A wise Unathi, the leader immediately saw the advantages of modern human technology. As such, he has opened his clan to the future, also sending his sons abroad to study and work with nanotrasen, the base provider of the Ozoss Clan. Essizr was taught the principles of the warrior code, the Unathi life, traditions and religion, which he has embraced and loved. He was taught to be smart and utilize Human technology, guided by Unathi spirit. He was trained as a warrior until the age of 20, when he was sent off to Nanotrasen, to be educated on security procedures and conduct. He was also taught Ceti Basic and basic human manners for him to blend in the employee roster. Now, at the age of 34, as a fully fledged officer, continues to retain the Unathi tradition, honour and loyalty. One patricular incident he has had though, has made him resent the Guwan. One day, when returning home for a short break, he found himself in an alley, taking a shortcut to the Clan castle. There, he witnessed a female Unathi being harassed by an individual, who looked like he tried to mug her. Things turned south, and once he turned his eyes on Essizr, got out a knife, stabbed the female, and fled. Filled with fury, Essizr got his ceremonial blade out and charged the Unathi. With a fearsome strike, he decapitated the perpetrator, and rushed to the dead female. It was well known that the Unathi had been a Guwan for some time, and the sole idea that someone like him would murder a woman, infuriated Essizr, who proceeded in pressuring his father for some heavy reforms, imprisoning Guwans and severely limiting them. Should it not have been for the "Safe workplace environment" of Nanotrasen, he would certainly have taken action asgainst Guwan employees, as he does not consider them as such. What do you like about this character? He is heavily bound by honour and tradition, while he despises the Guwans. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7 Notes: -

BYOND key: The lancer Character names: Dayton Perkins, Rayner Krupt, Tom Jackson, Hugh Evans How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since 2015 Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To unlock command roles that I have always been interested in Why did you come to Aurora?: I was told of its existence, came, and liked the heavy roleplay. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is an activity in which the involved create characters and behave as the characters would. Proper roleplay requires that you part from what you would do in a certain scenario, in favour of acting as your character, based on his backstory, beliefs and characteristics you have given him. The player's emotions or "bad day" should be kept at bay as much as possible, so as not to spoil and damage the roleplay. Above all, roleplaying should be fun and recreational for everyone involved. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The Heads of Staff should be a group of people experienced in the game and their department, offering assistance for anyone needed. New players for example, can and should be helped by the Heads, who act as a guide both IC and OOC. All in all, the Heads of Staff should pass on their knowledge, act as guides and assist wherever possible. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: OOCly, Whitelisted players are to become beacons of good conduct and healthy RP. The responsibilities that they have are to roleplay properly, to project an image of good conduct, have a good knowledge of the server rules and inspire others to follow such standards and even encourage them to make themselves a whitelist application. Naturally, I will strive to uphold the above by showing good character and doing my best in general, as I believe this keeps the fine quality the server has. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. I wish to create a new character solely for being head of security. Character name: Stavros Nannos Character age: 54 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Stavros was born in Athens, Earth in a lesser income family of the medium classes. His family included his parents and two sisters, Anna and Irene. Two things fascinated him since he was a young boy: space and soldiers. Years passed and Stavros attended his state provided education, not as enthusiastic at school as he was back home, playing with his toy soldiers. In the end, he passed his exams with surprisingly high grades, compared to his efforts. His parents tried to persuade him to enter law school, and become a lawyer to bring in a guaranteed income, but Stavros wanted something else, and driven by his dreams, he persuaded his father to send him abroad, to the New Seoul Combat Training Center, where he entered after completing his military term in the Alliance. Steven spent the next 7 years in the academy, learning obedience, discipline, combat and weapon usage. He presented himself as a foreigner with dreams of going to space one day, and this led to a friend of his mentioning finding work aboard a vessel of Nanotrasen, a company he has constantly been hearing of since his travelling abroad. As he had nowhere better to look at, Stavros decided to give that corporation a go. During the final year in the academy though, he was facing an eyesight problem, which was getting worse and worse every week to the point where he was forced to deal with it. With medication and medical assistance, he managed to slip out without needing glasses. Upon passing his final exams and earning a Bachelor's degree, he joined Nanotrasen as a security officer, and stayed with them for 30 years, during which he made a family and had a daughter. His most recent problem he faced was his eyesight issue that developed into a disease, which he addressed immediately and after a surgery and 2 months of recovery, managed to get through with prescription glasses. What do you like about this character?: He is a dreamer, and despite his health problems continues to persist. What do you dislike about this character?: His age and eyesight will not allow him to be as energetic. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: His experience, wisdom and many years with Nanotrasen that have earned him this position. His eye problems will not stand in the way of doing his job. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10 since I believe I am good with interacting with others, but I have not mastered it yet. Extra notes: I usually play when the server has ~20 players. I don't know if that's the deadhour, but I believe I am not well known to the greater community. This may very well affect feedback. I also do not know if I should strictly promote one of my existing characters, but I hope that's not the case, since really want to play this character.

BYOND key:The lancer Character names:Bob Jackson, Hercules Holmes, Kentigern Abeheitmeth. How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Since summer 2015. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:To have the opportunity to play as a head. Why did you come to Aurora?:I Was told it was a heavy roleplay server with action, so I tried it out. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is the act of playing as a character, without taking into account your own prefrences, knowledge or traits, but only your character's. Roleplayers should not focus on "winning the game" but to have fun, while making others have a fun time as well. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A head of staff is supposed to be an experienced roleplayer that should also assist new players with learning the game, mechanics and his department's job and generally be an example to be followed. Heads of staff could also assist in rounds when they are needed, to organise a department when needed in some gamemodes(i.e. Head of Security during Nuke ops round). What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players should always maintain character, have a well rounded sense of roleplay and actually roleplay on a higher standard than the newer players, as well as to teach the newcomers about the IC features regarding game mechanics and jobs. To uphold these responsibilities, I will always do my best to assist people in need of help regarding rp and enhancing other people's time by maintaining character and high rp standards. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Hercules Holmes Character age: 45 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Hercules Holmes, was born in an average family in Biesel. He went to school as every other child, without standing out that much. In his free time, he would meet with his friends and do things together, going on walks or playing games. Years passed and Hercules went into high school, spending his time studying and such, until one day, he happened to pass by an alley on his way home, where a violent crime had taken place. He observed the policemen and the investigators, and was inspired, so much that he then made a descision which would determine his career, his career in the criminal investigations branch of the police. Years passed, and time to choose between further education or entering the job market came. Herules had already made his mind up and applied to enter the Biesel forensics and investigations academy. There, he met with others that shared the same interest with him thus, making him love his new academy and opening up opportunities for new friends. After graduating with a Master's degree, he immediately enlisted in the police, where he was employed as a detective. After some time, he ranked up to reach a position of the chief. The concept of leading investigations and telling others what to do was very appealing to him. Though happy with his job and colleagues, Hercules wanted to explore a whole new aspect of the world, space, and decided to sign a contract with Nano Trasen, where they took him as a detective/forensics technician. What do you like about this character?: I like that he is a calm person in general, friendly and that he respects authority and colleagues. I also really like his style What do you dislike about this character?: He can sometimes be driven into an awkward position, where he can't find the appropriate words to express himself and feelings. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: His experience allows him to lead a team, he knows space law as well as security procedures. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: An 8 Extra notes: -

When comms are down, its already difficult to cummunicate, but far more difficult for security, as talking in the public radio may leak sensitive information. That could be solved with station bounced radios with the security frequency. That will make security's job easier when comms are down and it seems like a thing NT would do, as security is an important department.

The lancer's head application [need feedback!]
The lancer replied to The lancer's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The family swordfight thing is there because bob comes from a kinda high class society, where his family had always been into fencing. All in all bob came into a wordfight with his brother who then blinded by his anger challenged bob to a swordfight, where he lost his hand. Now the blood thing comes from the notion that the family's blood shouldnt be given away for any reason, so bob never experienced having his blood taken. But anyway thanks for the plus one -
