The Politics thread(Insert Trigger warning here)
Blue replied to Vittorio Giurifiglio's topic in Off Topic Discussion
It is a well known fact that heterosexuals have a secret agenda for world domination. If you don't believe it you are blind. That is all. -
Jenifer giggles, covering her hand with her mouth. She's wearing a set of pink scrubs, decorated with various fuzzy animals and a lab coat, with the sleeves much too big for her. She tilts her head from side to side as she smiles at the camera. "I'm goooood!" Jenifer can't help but giggle again, spinning in her chair even. "How come you never take me to the mall, huh?" She folds her arms in a mockingly serious manner, since she can't even try to restrain her smile.

So you know what. I thought I'd take a pic for this thread. So here we go.

EvilBrage's Eventual Head Whitelist Application
Blue replied to EvilBrage's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Often times we see apps with characters that don't really fit the head positions, yet their players insist that they are right for the job. And it's not just to gauge the player OOCly, we judge them ICly as well. -
Oh, in that case, I've seen other heads hold things like EVA training/practice, laser tag, maybe have a station get-to-know-eachother type deal, or even a false alarm emergency, just to see what everyone would do (Tell them central told you to)
-
Um...ensuring that your station is nice and orderly? Your job is kinda to make the station productive and such...and it is a WORK station...
-
It's just one work day. Chances are you can survive long enough to have dinner at home.

In a perfect world. But all I ever see is the Heads act reasonable and try to diffuse the situation, leading to extended or yet more unreasonable violence, or when the Heads act like tyrant dickbutts everyone gets mad and says it's bad RP. I did an illegal public execution that was OK'd by the HoS, and /me'd it out, but people still got butthurt and I was overthrown in 30 seconds. The round turned into the admins just making events to keep the thing going. You can't put all the responsibility for inciting violence on the Heads, then yell at them when they try to incite violence because you still have the same standards as extended. That's kinda how it's been; Heads go and exert their power and the crew gets upset and decides they need to overthrow them. Getting mad at heads for acting this way is natural, it's not SOP but it's part of the gamemode. That's why a lot of people dislike rev. Yes, it's always on the heads of staff to do something worth being overthrown for. If they don't do that, it's just gonna be extended in marshal law.

The heads of staff will give the revs something to revolt about. It's their job, after all.

Whitelist Request for Hivefleetchicken - Head
Blue replied to hivefleetchicken's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1, only because I know that everyone is going to talk shit about their new boss, especially Jenifer. And because Hive's been a member of this community for so so long and at this point it's given that he should have the options of heads of staff available... ...But mostly so I can talk shit about him. -
EvilBrage's Eventual Head Whitelist Application

Yeah, it's best if we critique and judge that character rather than one that's alright as a non- head of staff. -

EvilBrage's Eventual Head Whitelist Application
Blue replied to EvilBrage's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'd recommend creating that character first and posting his back story and such, not necessarily play him if you want him to be a captain or HoP or something from the start of his presence of the Aurora, rather than use a pre-existing character that you don't intend to make a head. -
All those questions are meant to be answered in paragraph form instead of just a couple of sentences...

France...there isn't much anyone can do in the situation. Sure, you can go repair the armory of you want but so what? A good syndicate would have tossed the weapons to kingdom come. The things inside minus the lockers, (riot armor, stun batons, maybe some vests assuming they didn't take that too) wouldn't really be much help. He *could* have given them to the officers, but they would have to wait on it. It all comes down to "Is it worth giving my officers this extra equipment when they already have a lesser tier set of it on them while there's an active threat?" Calling an engineer to the site where lethal weapons have been stolen is a risky move at least. Who's to say whatever caused that breach isn't still there, lingering in the area, and would hurt/kill/capture that engineer? In this universe, France. There really aren't much options. I sound like a broken record saying that, but there isn't really much extra that can be done. Two officers, a borg, a HoS and a cap. That's what we got to work with? Ordering the officers and borg to go around the station scanning for trouble isn't that bad of an idea, given the amount of resources they had. The pistols the heads are given are strictly intended for self-defense, not something to attack with (Kinda like the detective's pistol) The thing with rifles. They only have one setting; Kill. As security, you don't want to kill. Who is this force, even? Is it just a band of pirates? A group of misfit teenagers with some good equipment? Rebellious crew trying to protest something? Whoever it is, killing them rather than capturing is a pretty bad move. Yes, they have lethal weapons. But security has weapons that are designed to incapacitate and capture foes with ease. Five(ish) shots with a laser to the head and you're on the floor dying, versus two shots to anywhere with the taser and you're on the floor, with just holodamage. Laser rifles could *possibly* be worn on the back in place of a backpack, but again, a taser and a baton is really what you need (Unless you can shoot for a carbine). It's standard operating procedure to have officers go through maintenance and such to look for a threat like that. Yes, it's what they do usually. That's because it's SoP. Again, if they don't know where the ops are, there's not much they can do. Other than search for hostiles, they're basically sheep for the slaughter. As for cameras, cameras are only really effective when you have a general idea of where the bad guys are. If you have no clue, like they did, then cameras aren't much help. All you can do is scroll through the long long long list of cams and hope that there's going to be an operative standing in front of a camera and that he's gonna stand there long enough for you to randomly select that camera. It's not gonna happen. In short, there are many points in where Silver could improve in this scenario. His captainship may not have been the best, but damn, it sure sounds like average or above average at least. And there's nothing wrong with that.
-
That's also something good.
-
And then Blue makes spell check mandatory, thus ruining all the fun.
-
In regards to the whole armory/nuke round thing, I feel that Silver did nothing wrong. Assuming the armory was breached, you can't just physically walk in and check. And the ops usually destroy the cameras too. But if an AI says that it's empty, then it's empty. Don't see anything wrong with using information that had been given to him by a reliable source (AIs don't lie). The armory was breached. The only weapons sec is gonna be able to use is a tazer and a baton, France. Like he said in his post, he was limited to an officer (That's one.) and a borg (That's one and a half, borgs don't count as full.). It wasn't anything near a full force. Single man patrols were the *only* viable option. They had no clue who did this, why they did this, how many there are, what they're capable of, and where they are. There's literally nothing you can do but patrol and look for anything. He called for ERT too. That was about as much as he could do. Honestly, it would be more of the HoS's fault than the captain's (Hell, even the officers should be at fault; This is such a basic procedure...release the criminals when their time is up...) I really don't feel like we should scrutinize Silver on that.

Proceedings against James Watson

Well, if he keeps trying, I see no reason to do anything other than write this incident down in his notes and move on. If he keeps trying to improve himself, then I guess it's all good. -
