+1 from me, i was surprised antags don't get this, to be honest

Whitelisted players could simply promote en-masse those they know to be already worthy, it might take a couple of days, maybe a week or two, to get regular players processed, and then problem solved Managing and training cadets is already part of their job. I've seen plenty of good security heads assigning cadets to shadow an officer, pairing them up, or asking officers to train them. As well as allowing proper equipment to those cadets who have a record of training in their employment records. this would add a small extra element to something they already do. And heads already have the power to promote, demote and suspend people within their own department. medical in general doesn't have enough players, lessened demand is my argument for that. And sure chemistry is a risk and a huge griefer magnet, but its also right next to reception. chemistry players are the most likely to be caught griefing, not just because they grief, but because they're in plain sight. Seems like you know a lot, and you're whitelisted yourself. i'm sure you have a nice list of names you could rapidly approve! Applications do gather feedback from the community, which is a large factor in deciding their approval. This is a lower whitelist, with a lower barrier of entry. it's meant to establish a baseline of decent conduct, and keep blatant griefers out. If we trust heads with the authority to be heads, i don't think this is too much to add.

I definitely agree with keeping the limit, but i'd be in favour of nerfing the nutrient levels of food so you can eat more before getting full Also, if people wanted, i could code it so that instead of the 'You cannot force anymore down your throat' You can keep eating when overfull, but with a rapidly increasing chance of throwing up and spewing it all out again

I think you're missing something though This. If the people doing the approving are already, themselves, approved by a quality-based process then you have a quality based application. Whitelisted players have to go through the crucible to get where they are, and they already, as is stated and established, have higher expectations and responsibilities on them. If they choose to participate by allowing the promotion of a cadet, it's on them to be a reasonable judge of character The thing is, there are two types of whitelisting processes: those that check for quality, and those that check for persistence/commitment. People won't forget because they'll have the cadets under them regularly begging for promotion. as you said yourself, a commitment based whitelist is different from a quality based one. Having a strictly time based automated system might mean good and reasonable players, who'd be fine for the role, are still locked out for a long time. Allowing our heads of staff (who are already approved on a quality-based whitelist) to handle the approval, would imo yield better results, quicker. While also bringing about more interesting RP and communication between command and their subordinates.

This sounds like a problem with the whitelisting procedure, if that were an issue, we could find ways to make it easier to apply. For example, an ingame terminal that allows a command player to approve someone for the whitelist, without needing any involvement at all from aurora staff The requirements don't need to be high, its not a deep test of roleplaying ability. more a cursory 'are you a griefer' check, and to make sure you have at least a working knowledge of corporate regulations.

see i'd agree, but i've seen many who'd like to see the hunger system entirely removed. In any case, skull is generally opposed to making food more important because of vending machines, which is the reason i made this thread: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6312 I'd say that's a prerequisite for any other changes to the food system

People don't go out of their way for casual RP and nonessential things I'd argue that if you put the bar there, the area will still be dead, and so will the bar. If the objective is to get traffic to that area, i'd say the solution is to put an essential thing there. Like medical. Medical being near arrivals makes a lot of sense, what if the station has to act as a field hospital for an influx of casualties from a nearby shuttle crash.

You know we need it. This proposal is a simple one: 1. Increase the number of cadet slots, 4-6 2. Make all security roles above cadet, whitelisted on a new, seperate security whitelist. This includes officer, warden, detective and forensic tech (head of security is already on a different whitelist) In order to get on the security whitelist, you must be vouched-for by at least one player on the head of staff whitelist (who ideally, has seen you in action while they were head of security) and at least one officer. Ideally you will have served some amount of time as a cadet, maybe a couple weeks to a month of realtime Assuming these requirements are met, the sec whitelist request could be approved without farther consideration. To reduce workload on the aurora staff, these whitelists could even be done through a seperate subforum on which command-whitelisted players have moderation powers, and a web tool to do their approval Possible problems? Will this lead to a lack of security? Unlikely, those unknown people who would have jumped straight to officer will now pick cadet instead. While the actual officer slots will be reserved for those who are trusted. You'll still have all the warm bodies around, and a warden can still issue them with weapons if they feel it appropriate. Wardens and commanders already do issue gear to cadets they feel are trustworthy Will it lead to a lot of empty officer slots? Also unlikely. Security is, by a very large margin, the most-played department on the server, its usually full. it will just mean that only known and trusted players can be officers, and there's plenty of them around to do so Why only security? Because this would cripple the playercount in any other department, medical engineering and science are complex enough to put most people off. Security is, at least at first appearance, the simplest, and also the most desired. It will always have an endless demand of people wanting to play it, nothing can take that away. Won't this put people off wanting to play security? For every person discouraged by this barrier to entry, there's another two waiting for their slot. infinite demand

[Declined] Pruttehans's Unathi Whitelist Application!
Nanako replied to PrutteHans's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
English isn't your first language, right? your backstory doesn't mention anything about unathi lore at all, beside that they eat meat. Where did this character come from, how were they raised, what in their life led them to this profession, etc I'm ot sure what bothaniks are, is that some alien race from another server? we don't have them here The section about why you want to play an unathi is also kind of 'lol randumb'. you just wanted to play an alien and they're the first that came to mind? -
My proposal is simple. Lets remove 65% of the contents of each vending machine (by reducing the quantity of each item, not removing any specific items entirely) I believe this would encourage greater participation in the various other means of getting food: -If there's a chef, people will be more likely to visit the kitchen and order things there. -If there is no chef, Someone can apply for kitchen access, or ask the AI to let them in, or occasionally just break through the window, in order to act as the chef and make food for the crew. Cooking is a skill a lot of characters have as a matter of general life experience. -People can grow their own fruits and vegetables in the public garden. -Cargo can order pizza surprise packs, or kitchen supply crates if someone will cook -Chemistry can produce synthmeat -Virology and science can bring their monkeys to the meat spike for food use -Unathi can go hunting for little edible creatures in the maintenance ducts (i know this doesn't give nutrition now, but i'm fixing it) -Or in an emergency, people can start raiding the drink dispensers for cups of sugar With a third of what they have now, vending machines would still act as a reasonable supplement for busy workers, but they'd be more likely to run out if everyone starts relying on them

this could also cover people who refuse to open doors for paramedics, or shove doctors around while treating patient. i'd approve of that
-
what on earth are those double-walled rooms with the pairs of double airlocks, that only contain chairs?
-
question, since i don't play cult, Would this do anything to slow down their path to summoning nar-sie? personally i'd be in favour of anything that gives cultists other options besides summoning him
-
it'd be far easier, and more sensical to just reduce the nutrition levels of protein and nutriment the hunger code is not large or complex, tearing apart is very easy the thing is, everyone can't seem to agree on a direction about what should be done with it
-
why is that garden there? How is food supposed to get to the kitchen, i don't even see the kitchen here
-
IPCs are nerfed enough already by the existence of EMP, this restriction seems silly. i support removing it
-
well it would make perfect sense since cult is blood magic, and diona bleed sap instead
-
scanner beds are too easy at detecting everything, and organ-fixing surgery is far too simple, and doesn't offer an even slightly believable representation of cardiac/neurosurgery. i'd consider these gameplay problems
-
Everywhere is the place for roleplay, except engineering. Engineers mostly interact with objects, machines, wires and walls, they have nobody to talk to. Medical fixes people, and having medical issues often shows a different, weaker side of folk that isn't normally seen, i've had plenty of great RP with patients. The idea with nerfing the diagnostic tools, is that RP would be more effective. if the body scanner is more cumbersome to use, you might find it quicker to ask the patient where it hurts, so that you at least know exactly where to scan, or perhaps even feel confident enough to start treatment immediately Doctors are often SSD at the desk because of what kaed describes, a lack of things to do during downtime. Nevertheless, a good CMO will notice, remove, and replace them. And as for the incompetence, start naming names. I've been thinking of holding performance reviews on medical staff, if anyone in particular seems incapable to you, note it down Anyways to summarise, the parts i agree with are obscuring some information behind medical terminology and stats, and heavily nerfing the scanner bed or redesigning it. I'd also like to see the penlight and stethoscope improved, i'm sure they have a few bugs to work out at least
-
Calhoun, your reapplication is approved. you didn't need to do it twice though
-
They would, of course. Security would also like a machine that pinpoints and instantly incapacitates the antag from a distance of several lightyears. Engineering would love to have a machine that generates infinite energy with a simple on-switch anyone will welcome something that makes their job easier. it's a question of whether its too powerful, and useful. Personally I like the obscuring suggestion. make the information harder to read, so it requires some degree of medical understanding to interpret The fact that the subject has brain damage is pretty much a given with such a massive head injury, that's not really necessary. And detecting abnormalities in brain structure is kind of an advanced thing, it seems odd that a hand scanner could detect it. Reading the exact blood level, or the fact that there's internal bleeding, seems a bit odd too. Realistically you'd detect the subject's blood pressure, and notice internal bleeding by a falling BP after external bleeds are dealt with
-
the challenge in violent rounds is mostly a backlog in surgery waiting for bones to fix. i'd like to improve splints at some point so that bone surgery is less necessary. As far as diagnostic load goes, violence doesn't add much. Wounds to chest probably means broken ribs and all the organs in there are damaged
-
The idea i think, is not to globally add extra steps (which is pointless gruntwork) but to add extra steps to less skilled doctors. To raise the skill ceiling, so that those who've learned and studied in detail can have a greater margin of effectiveness from those who aren't. If a patient comes in with a swollen chest, suffocation damage, and coughing blood, i can quickly diagnose a ruptured lung and begin treatment, without any need for a scan And when things are more complex and arcane, it encourages more IC training sessions. i've both recieved and given a lot of training in medical procedure from/to various people. its fun!
-
I'm with barnes that diagnosis is a little too easy. I don't think the problem is with the hand analyser though. The scanner bed makes detecting bone and organ damage a bit too easy. I'd rather it be some giant machine that takes up 3x3 tiles and needs a whole seperate room, and youd nee to scan sections of the body at once Dr Magojiro has chosen to specialise in diagnostics. 70% of the time i can tell what happened to someone by looking at the vitals monitor, it rises to about 90 if i can examine them in person. i only use it for confirmation, but its a bit too easy of a crutch to rely on The detailed examination feature is good, and should be expanded. but its also kind of a pain since you have to click things on that tiny person-shaped targeting hud. The health analyser does have a bit too much information, but I wouldn't like to see some of it removed unless new ways to get it were added. A thermometer for temperature, a blood pressure thing for finding blood levels, etc
