i'm thinking adding a HAS_BREASTS species flag. and female underwear (with bras) is only selectable if its true

They're reptiles. Unathi women don't have breasts! What is that bra even for?

Player Complaint - LordRaven001 (Akero'Ceita Ceeta'Pleat)

Inaction when ordered to undo what it had already done. That's not inaction at all. You can't just break something and then claim you're guilt free because you did nothing, when ordered to fix it It also doorcrushed an officer, insulted the captain in PDA messages, and publicly in announcements. Those are pretty direct actions against the crew. What law exactly did this break? What purpose could be served by locking the captain out of their office? Anything in it, is better on the captain's person, or moved to a more secure location There's also the fact that Menss was giving the AI orders over the radio which it seemed to be following, while ignoring orders from a higher ranking officer. No, not every order. The AI shouldn't let assistants into the vault, or open the armoury for cargo techs. It's supposed to follow orders according to rank. Captian and ERT are the highest ranking personnel available. Unless an order is blatantly stupid ("Murder all the crew") or the captain has been judged insane, or is being impersonated, there's little reason not to follow his orders The captain is a person chosen from a decade of experience, who passes through a rigorous process of psych and character evaluations. They're the person NT has entrusted the station to. To question their judgement is to presume you know better. And that's not all, the head of security supported his decisions too. In the middle of a security crisis, the AI was disobeying the combined orders of captain and head of security And while it was causing this distraction, as previously mentioned, the nukeops got the nuke. And we all got to see the results of the AI's terrible judgement first hand. Everyone died, station destroyed. The AI, a programmed machine, presumed it knew better than the station's designated command staff, breaking its law to obey orders. And its actions resulted in the station and everyone on it being destroyed, failing three of its four laws. Anyone could see there was something wrong here, it's disobedient and disrespectful attitude just screamed defective programming. This has nothing to do with skrell-AI RP, anyone of any race would see that AI as broken and want it dealt with. If you're going to claim he wasn't justfied in wanting to destroy the AI, then you have to justify why it'd lock him out of his office, and how that made sense to continue after the captain arrived What would you have done in raven's position? -
The thing is, a lot of these things are left open ended so people can RP with them more. I once met a varuca wizard terrorist. his fireball was RPed as a grenade launcher (presumably voice locked) A robot vampire could be a special IPC built by cultists and infused with nar'sie's power somehow, allowing it to fuel its power cells on blood

Player Complaint - LordRaven001 (Akero'Ceita Ceeta'Pleat)

I was in that round. The AI was very casual and un-synthetic about everything, i thought it was malfunctioning too after that announcement. LR's actions at least were pretty in-character. He may have been aggressive, but he RPed a an agressive skrell pretty well. The AI didn't sound like a machine at all, nor was it apparently following its law to obey orders according to rank. LR Also had the support of the Head of security, and the AI was apparently doorcrushing members of the crew? Disobeying direct captains orders, insulting the ERT, and recalling the shuttle? Anyone would consider those the actions of a broken AI. Any crewmember doing it would be stripped of their position and brigged. The AI isn't a member of command staff, just because it has command channel access. It's a servant of the crew, not their superior, and not a decision maker unless there's nobody else capable. And it is not immune to consequences for its actions. I personally thought that the raiders had gotten in and subverted the AI, i'd have been fully in support of terminating it -
Where did you get this notion from? Changelings do their work with chemicals, they're the ones that aren't supposed to affect machines. Wizards work with magic, they reshape the fabric of reality, and distort the laws of time and space. I see no reason why their spells shouldn't work on absolutely anything, including bringing pAIs to life and turning androids into organics. They can also animate doors and chairs and lockers. Heck they should have the ability to convert organics into machines, too

That's half the fun! It's a chaotic tool used to liven up a round a bug that can probably be fixed this is a feature, an awesome one. gaining new languages is part of the transformation I also love this, it's amazing, being turned into a vox suddenly gives the wizard power, your life is in their hands this should be fixed, name shouldn't change imo If it were controllable the wizard would just select vox and murderbone everyone. i like the randomness I've seen people making stories out of it. Being transformed suddenly gives you new abilities, new needs, and new ways of coping with things. Xenos can't speak, shadowlings have to hide in the dark. I saw a pAI-turned-golem having a lot of fun last round, still behaving with the mind of a pAI but in a new physical body something interesting for security to deal with then. Antags exist to create conflict, this sounds like a success I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to create an original-DNA variable that stores your initial state, and a revert spell could simply overwrite your current one with that. It can be re-coded The horse head is humiliating, it cuts off conversation, and is no fun for anyone. it also stops being funny the first time you see it in your life. It's just removing one aspect of gameplay and replacing it with crap. Being turned into a random alien may completely derail your character, but it opens up lots of opportunities to RP how you'd react to this sudden change, and new ways to interact with the world that make up for it. I once made friends with an officer who'd been turned into a neara, and carried him around as a companion for the rest of the shift. tl:dr, staff of change is fun. for me at least.
-
I like the staff of change, it allows people to see some interesting content that's rarely used like xenomorphs, shadowlings, and a couple of critters. I'd be more in favour of fixing the bugs, and making it reversible, than removing it. As for fireball, isn't that kind of the point? It's a destructive spell, its supposed to blow things up. it's the closest thing to epic magic the wizard really has. And speaking as an occasional engineering player, fixing hull breaches is fun. What do you see as the problem with it causing breaches? I think i'd agree with you on all the rest, though i'd also like to see the horse mask spell removed, that's just dumb and annoying
-
I've wanted security whitelisting for a while 30 rounds might be excessive though. I think 10 is reasonable. 10 rounds is still 20 hours of playtime, that's generally enough to learn procedure, safe use of weapons, etc Having it be entirely automated isn't optimal though, some system combining automation, and manual approval by a head of security, would be ideal
-
I'm not sure you understand what the term 'blacklist' means though. You're asking for a whitelist here
-
I'm kinda agreeing with this. Other than rarity, i'm not seeing why it should be stronger than a stunbaton, or even equivilant. its not really a high tech thing
-
Can you elaborate a little more on your plans for this hive language? Also, i'd really like to see the warrior/worker distinction actually given some mechanical weight. maybe workers are faster, while warriors are tougher and need more food
-
I think it's not extreme enough. If the station were on the brink of destruction, and you had a decent chance of saving it, your loyalty implant should compel you to try to preserve it, even at the risk to your own life, rather than hopping on an escape pod An employee is an asset and they have value. But i doubt there's any single employee, save trasen herself, who isn't worth sacrificing to save a hundred-billion credit space station

So... Restricting the access to code blue and above?
-
This seems a little overpowered for a telescopic baton. Your code doesn't include any probabilities. How about making it have a probability of triggering the effect, equal to the damage on that limb, so repeated hits get more likely. Also are you aware that, unlike most things in dm, the status effects work on whole seconds, not deciseconds? Weaken(10) will put someone on the floor for 10 seconds, which is basically a one-hit win, since you could just keep hitting their leg to reapply it. Permanant stunlock

[Accepted] Nanako's Unathi application
Nanako replied to Nanako's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
This is literally exactly what I'm trying to do, its one of the major purposes of this application. I'm making an honest, good-faith effort to address the biggest problem people find with me I get that you guys want me to make another human for some reason, but what would that prove? I have four humans already, each with a backstory, personality, place of origin and different occupation. and substantially different visuals now. I don't want to play anymore humans, this application is my desire to branch out in a new direction. And I've taken care to do it carefully and show respect to the species and their lore. Those asking me to do it, do you believe for some reason i'm not going to do justice to an unathi, and be a problem? what is it you're worried about? -
Let Unathi gain food/nutrition/whatever from devouring mobs
Nanako replied to Fire and Glory's topic in Completed Projects
You mean they don't gain nutrition from it? This is a bug, ill fix it i'm giving nymphs devouring anyways, ill reuse the same code and improve it -
BYOND Key:NanakoAC Character Names:Nanako Herzreich, Nanako Magojiro, Nanako Weiss, Nanako Johannesen, Boopsy Species you are applying to play:Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):A dull green Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Thoughly, and discussed improvements to it Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:A couple of unathi around the server have interested me, and made me want to take a closer look at the lore. That plus jackboot's various news updates about the hegemon war make me rather curious and wanting to participate. Plus the new changes to nutritional requirements in the upcoming patch will make unathi mechanics a little deeper In addition, there's a few things i'd like to do that i don't have a character for yet, and i can't very well make anymore nanakos. I thought about the jobs i wanted to do, and started designing a character to fit around them, unathi seemed like the best fit, and then i built off of that Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A greater sense of clan, and family, a significant degree of pride, different dietary requirements with a focus on fish and meat. A generally more reserved demeanour, and a greater focus on traditionalism. A deep seated desire to preserve one's culture, while trying to adapt to a rapidly changing universe Character Name:Saphira Zerik Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Saphira was born in 2403, in a rural village on the south shore of the Moghresian sea, to a poor but respected family. Her father was a fisherman, and her mother a herbalist who took care of the town's health. She learned these arts from her mother, and took a great liking to growing medicinal plants, grinding them up, and preparing tonics and reagents. At age 17, in 2420, she was married off to the head of a moderately sized fishing guild, as part of a business deal to improve her father's standing in the world, and moved to S'th to live with her husband in a nice suburban neighborhood, with a spacious garden that she used to practise her herbal arts as a hobby. For nineteen years they lived a happy middle class lifestyle, and she bore him three healthy young boys over the first four years of the marriage. Eventually the distant rumblings of war disrupted their idyllic lifestyle. Cities were destroyed, and millions died in atomic fire. Her family did better than most in the resulting economic collapse and held on for a couple more years, food being a basic and necessary industry, but as the war moved closer, they decided that Moghes was no longer a place worthy of raising their children. In 2441, her husband sold off his business, and used the money to take saphira and their young-adult to the recently founded colony on Ouere. Life there took a turn for the better, after a short while as the young reached maturity and gradually left the nest, their youngest went back to Moghes and joined up with the Hegemony's military. Her husband invested their savings wisely, started a new company on ouere, employed their middle son, and created a comfortable fund for the future. Sadly, after a family outing to the wilderness, her husband contracted Kleobis Mardeno, The Rot. The very same illness that crippled Prince Not'Zar Izweski. His luck was not so fortunate, and neither Saphira's herbal medicines, nor modern medical technology could save him. His death made her distraught, and she took it as a shameful personal failure of her medicinal arts, driving her to learn more. His company and assets were divided amongst their sons, and saphira ended up moving in with one of them. . A couple of months of idleness sparked an interest to do something more with the rest of her life, and she talked her sons into helping and contributing some funds. In 2446, at the age of 43, Saphira enrolled in a community college, to study the scientific roots of botany and chemistry in more detail. After a couple of years there, she qualified for a couple of scholarships, and was admitted to a nearby skrell university, commuting from home to study on a part time basis. Getting degrees with part time study takes some time, saphira spent over a decade in education, learning slowly, working odd jobs on the side, assisting her sons, and preparing for something. In 2458, at age 55, she emerged with degrees in chemistry and botany, a dead husband, three sons in their mid/late 20s and quite a few grandchildren too. This old lady and her midlife crisis have decided to leave home, and see the stars before it's too late What do you like about this character? She's a wily old lady, she has a history, a living family, and a story to tell, with plenty of blank spaces to adlib life experiences. She specialises in a couple of areas that i don't play, which will give me a chance to explore new gameplay as well as new roleplay. With her backstory, i also wanted to portray a side of the Unathi race that are rarely seen. They're an advanced species, they actually have cities, technology, and an economy. They're a traditionalist culture, but they're not all spearchucking tribals . Saphira is a character who's seen both rural and urban life extensively, and has expreiences from both. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 5/10, i have no illusions of being great Notes: Jackboot consulted extensively regarding lore and backstory. And people have been saying i need to play some not-nanako. So this is my chance to demonstrate that i can.
-
No you don't. If someone is trespassing, you call security and let them handle it
-
What about treating yourself as expendable if necessary to protect company assets?
-
I've started work on the diona today, consulting with killerhurtz every step. Diona have a lot of bugs and wierd code abnormalities ill sort out as i go. Like the fact that their damage-in-darkness is simply not functioning I'd consider this a bug, and i will be fixing it as i go I'm not sure if nymphs are supposed to have nams, my vague understanding was that nymphs only name themselves as a collective when they form a gestalt, but i may be wrong, killerhurtz can decide that
-
a new proper race would mean someone would have to write lore for them, and code features for them it kinda seems like a whole lot of mess and work to me, i'm not seeing how they'd really add to things
-
A code restriction would prevent this. You don't go to code blue without some reason, generally an un-apprehended and dangerous fugitive. The text for code blue clearly states that random searches are allowed and encouraged, and at that point search warrants are no longer required either.
-
Are you saying this is a bad thing? Premature shuttles end the round, and should generally be avoided at all costs
-
Engineering already has the skeleton key to the station, they don't need any extra access. They can get into anywhere by hacking the door, and if they have a legitimate reason they can explain that later. In any case engineering rarely needs emergency access. If there's a breach, the firelocks drop and contain it, and it can be left that way for engineering to fix at their leisure Medical has the fireaxe which allows them to overtly force their way in if lives are imminently in danger. Medical often has no business visiting outside of emergencies. Security though, often needs to visit various departments for non-emergency situations, like griefing chemists, or picking up recently treated suspects, or for going into xenobio to fight slimes. Giving them inherent access when needed would reduce the reliance on having to be babysitted by the AI, who often neglects the rest of the crew during troubled times and leaves people trapped in the kitchen As for theft, most of the regulations and systems we have are already designed around an optimal station with a full crew complement. An optimal station typically doesn't include corrupt officers who steal things. And theere's no reason for them to take gold except for the lulz, which is griefer behaviour and admins would deal with it
