Ckey/BYOND Username:NanakoAC Position Being Applied For: Coder Past Experiences/Knowledge: Hello, i'm a 28-year old, autodidact coder. I've been programming on and off for ten years now. Main languages i've worked in are LSL, AS3, and C#. Also moderate amount of work with HTML/CSS and a little PHP. I'm familiar with object oriented environments and all the important concepts within. I learn by very quickly by example, and the existing codebase provides a massive example to work from. I look at things, dissect them, figure out how they work, and reuse them. I've gotten the hang of a fair bit of .dm so far this way and i'll continue doing so Since i became a wiki dev i've spent a couple of weeks delving into aurora's code, learning the ins and outs of various systems, I started actually coding for aurora sometime last week. I've submitted seven pull requests and fourteeen bug reports. Three of those PRs have been merged so far, two more are about to be, and two are yet unjudged I've worked in a group environment before using tortoise SVN, working on a civilisation IV mod. And am familiar with most of the concepts concerning code repositories. Arcbot has helped me get up to speed on the eccentricities of github, and i'm feeling fairly comfy with it now Examples of Past Work: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pulls?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=+is%3Apr+author%3ANanakoAC+ current work is best. Preferred Mode of Communication (Skype, Steam, etc.): Discord: Nanako#2320 Skype: warkirby_magojiro Additional Comments: In this brief span of time, i seem to have become a go-to codemonkey, for a couple of staffmembers, and i have a few projects and fixes in the request queue that ill be doing up and submitting soon. Killerhurtz wants nymphs to be able to eat food to regrow, and cake has some bugs about cyborgs ill be sorting. By virtue of anyone being able to submit PRs, i seem to be functioning as a coder already. But it would be nice to have the ability to label and manage issues on github All of my PRs focus on fixing things. Sometimes direct bugs, sometimes quality of life improvements, and efforts at standardisation. Baycode has a long way to go, and a lot of things to fix. I don't have any intention of working on wierd flights of fantasy, at least not without making a suggestion thread and gathering public opinion, as well as getting skull's personal approval for major projects. Most of my work is aimed to be uncontroversial and agreeable improvement. That said, i'm perfectly capable of fabricating new systems from scratch, and can work on larger features in a team as needed. I don't intend to leave the wiki team, my work on documenting things is what leads me to a lot of bugs, i think the two roles complement each other well, and i'll do both

That had little to do with head of staff behaviour, and more to do with you prematurely forcing a round end that nobody wanted. I have opened a complaint about it here: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=36&p=61688#p61688 i wont say anything more about it here -
Why would anyone drink alcohol which doesn't have mental effects? How often do you see people ordering soft drinks currently? It's a rare thing. People only drink if they're drinking alcohol. We have a wide swathe of nonalcoholic beverages that are almost never touched
-
So you want to add low quality food, and give the chef even less reason to exist? That's what the vending machines are for. Alcohol has serious RP purposes. Its a place for the cadet to go who just killed a man for the first time, ot the surgeon who's distraught about losing a patient Drinking at work, and being drunk at work, are very different things, that's a matter of personal responsibility You won't accomplish that by removing social lubricant - This is what the chef is for, and the kitchen. The chef has all kinds of ways to creatively poison people, and can emag the gibber to make it accept humans. Why would anyone want to work in a food related role, yet not work in the kitchen? Cook is available as an alt title if you don't want to be chef for some reason, we could add more alt titles And as for a limited selection, the chef can already RP that. They can also make up menus suited to various races, skrell will be able to eat fish next patch, unathi will only gain nutrition from meat, and will be able to digest carpotoxin safely

BYOND Key: NanakoAC Staff BYOND Key: Loow Reason for complaint: Declaring an issue to be IC, which i disagree with Evidence/logs/etc:I've been told that i have to file a staff complaint, rather than a player complaint, because Loow decreed this to be an IC issue, and thus i'm not allowed to file a complaint against the player in question (UnkownMurder) without first contesting the staff decision. The incident is thus: UM Arrived quite late in the shift as Alex Graves. At this time, Evelyn fermi, as a traitor antag, was hiding out on the science outpost and defending it with a laser cannon. The captain went down there for some reason, and was killed. The captain's body was swiftly recovered by our paramedic, brought back to medical, and cloned. However in the short time that he was dead, Alex Graves declared himself Acting Captain, and called an emergency evac shuttle. Immediately after the shuttle was called, and then repeatedly for several minutes after, various players asked him to recall it, stating that the situation was under control. The most prominent of those was myself, representing medical, and LordRaven, representing engineering. The supermatter core had been ejected earlier, but the substations were charged and everything was still running fine. A new supermatter had already been ordered, it might even have been installed by the end of round, so the power situation was handled. At some point, the AI was subverted, but the laws it were given were more interesting and fun, than outright dangerous. It was nevertheless dealt with and emittered to death. The captain was brought back to perfect health, several personnel injured by fermi were also rescued, treated for burns, and back on their feet by the time the shuttle arrived. The security department was low in numbers, one officer i think, but evelyn fermi was only one person too. I'm sure alberyk could have handled her, properly equipped, especially with graves and the captain assisting. But even if not, if he was worried about their inability to handle the situation, he should have called an ERT. LordRaven dealt with the AI and repaired all the damage to the station, i ghosted around at the end and everything looked pretty good. There was a vine outbreak in xenoflora, but it was very mild, one person with a fireaxe could have handled it easily enough. I don't believe the shuttle was necessary here, most of the problems were either under our control, or solutions (IE: ERT ) were easily within reach. At one point i ran up to the bridge window to ask graves personally to recall the shuttle, and he responded with an emote, something like 'Alex Graves can't hear what you're saying because there's a window between us" which i know is a lie. IIRC he was quite quiet and not explaining his actions until after the shuttle was beyond the point of no return. Additional remarks: The problems with this situation: 1. Alex graves was not present for most of the round, and his first action as acting captain was to end it. He had no stake in the round, he just arrived to end it and ruin everyone else's fun for no good reason. He didn't have accurate information about the situation, and as far as i saw didn't make an effort to assess it before passing judgement. 2. Alex Graves had no good reason to take acting captain in the first place, the actual captain was only dead for a very short time, cloning is IC knowledge, he knew uriel would be back, and that uriel wouldn't have called a shuttle in that situation because LordPwner has recently recieved a warning for premature escalation. 3. Graves called the shuttle unnecessarily, and ended the round without attempting to resolve the situation by calling an ERT. One person with a laser is something an ERT team could handle, possibly even handleable without an ERT. 4. Graves pretended he couldn't hear me, didn't respond to a PDA message, and wasn't explaining his actions to the various crew asking for the shuttle to be recalled. It's my opinion that he was just stalling until the shuttle couldn't be recovered 5. Graves ignored the feedback of the crew, most notably LordRaven's character Aramir, who normally serves as a Chief Engineer. His opinion should have been trusted on matters of station integrity, power, and the AI. He said he could handle it. Graves didn't drop in to see how medical was doing, otherwise he'd have found us well stocked, well equipped, and capable of handling anything. We had surplus of every kind of medicine, an odysseus on standby, and two people in voidsuits with a fireaxe, juiced up on hyperzine ready to rush to the aid of anyone who needed it. 6. We were still on code green. A crew transfer vote could have been called, and the matter decided democratically. Instead, he forced the round to end, against the wishes of what i believe was a majority of the players. You don't call an evac on code green, it takes the same amount of time to arrive as a transfer shuttle Points 1, 3, 4, and 6 are why i believe this is an OOC issue, and thus why i'm contesting the staff decision Calling the evac was far from the only option here, I see three other choices he could have made: 1. Calling a crew transfer vote instead, to let people decide if they wanted to continue. 2. Calling an ERT to deal with the antags. 3. Gathering up the recently cloned captain, and the recently healed officer, getting equipped with laser-resistant vests, and the three of them assaulting the science outpost together. I would not be writing this thread if he'd done any of these

Afaik, it's already scheduled, and will be the next major feature skull works on after this next patch containing the vampire rewrite
-
Because restricting an entire species from certain things makes them a whole lot less interesting to play, and is missing out on a whole lot of fun potential. Diona antags can be really interesting, especially in the having to adopt new tactics to deal with them. I'd rather just see them toned down a bit, and more possible to truly kill

The bar is realistic. People love to drink, alcohol is a huge part of human culture, and is fuel for a lot of interesting RP. The fact that some people abuse it and just get wasted all shift, is also realistic. Dealing with them is a matter for the bartender, security, and personnel. There are a great many players who use the bar responsibly, and find it very useful. Your suggestion is still silly, because you're saying we should replace the bar with a food supplier. Apparently missing the fact that we already have a chef and a kitchen, and it has a counter that faces directly into the cafeteria. The whole place together is a full service lunch/restaurant/bar thing. You're saying to remove something we have, and replace it with another thing we already have. That's a smokescreen. You're actually just saying 'Remove the bar'. You wouldn't be replacing it with anything, you'd just be removing content, and cutting out a part of the game, for no real purpose.

[DENIED] [Server Moderator] 0fox's Application
Nanako replied to 0fox's topic in Moderator Applications Archives
Personally i think someone should be around a bit longer before applying for a position like this. You need some time to gain familiarity with how things work here -
The missing word here is can. They CAN do these things. https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/206089.pdf A neat little study on them Some interesting snippets like: 10% Fracture rate at 10 feet. A tile is about 2x2metres, judging from sprites, so a 10 feet range is about two tiles, rounded up. That does mean that 90% of shots won't break bones Roughly a 2% death rate. Internal bleeding is the most likely cause of death by beanbag shell in game, so it needs to be made far less common Beanbag shells are far too lethal right now, and i'm not the first one to say this. It should be quite possible to make them less lethal without making them less powerful, using halloss
-
Well i'm gonna be completely honest here. Garnascus is really good at the game. And at powergaming. He's really good at just plain winning. I'm not sure what RP value that creates, but it does at least mean as an antagonist, the round usually lasts a while, and he has the courage to do stuff. Diona are by far the strongest species in the game, they're utterly, stupidly overpowered. And we all know garnascus plays antag a lot. Give him a tree, and he'll rule the galaxy. Or just burn the station, not sure. But it'll be interesting to watch, and for that reason its a +1 from me.
-
Okay after some testing, i'm going to say i was wrong about the shotgun, it's very lethal, and that's a problem. Beanbag shells seem to cause bleeding, sometimes internal bleeding, and can kill. I'd consider this a bug. A beanbag shotgun is not supposed to be lethal. While they do have potential for internal damage, it shouldn't be this severe. The correct solution here is to fix the beanbag shells though, not to take the shotgun away

They said, as their character was 2-handing a fireaxe chasing after the heister in the cloaker suit along with the rest of the 9 man PayDay gang. Now you're just being silly, i only hold it in two hands when i need to break something open, quite often i have a pillbottle or an analyser or a rollerbed in the other hand. I dropped my axe on the floor several times in order to attempt to treat the heister. For some reason, someone kept opening doors and windoors, letting them through, continually breaking containment when they were cornered. I did not hit evelyn with the axe, i had no intention of hitting evelyn with the axe, nanako has never intentionally hit any crewmember with the axe. IT is a breaching tool for clearing obstacles, not a weapon. (if you actually hit a person with it, it embeds into them almost 100% of the time which makes it impossible to recover during combat). I had the axe with me because i'd just come to evelyn after working on other paramedic duties, iirc i was at security at the time, checking on xinc who had large burns. Before that i was called to the research dock for casualties there. There is literally nothing wrong with a paramedic carrying a fire axe during red alert. It is an emergency tool, and red alert is an emergency situation. I fully admit to having been too overzealous with it in the past, and having used it in situations of questionable justification. But this was not one of those. -
[Denied] NebulaFlare's Unathi Application

I'd like to see a lot more interesting unathi. I'm hoping you would't be one of those macho sorts that constantly refuses medical treatment then gets themselves killed. You have a LOT of characters, very varied and they're usually pretty fun to be around. It'll be interesting to see what you do with a nonsynthetic for a change -

I was a paramedic, not a doctor or nurse. You could tell my job from the word Paramedic on my ID card, or the EMT utility belt around my waist, or the fact that i spent half the round outside of medical in a voidsuit, responding to calls for aid The axe is part of their job description and i was carrying it to breach doors, since the AI disconnected halfway though the round, and we were getting called CONSTANTLY to casualties all over the station. We were in red alert from about 15 minutes in, and the station was in a perpetual state of crisis. We had wounded officers in security, people dying in the research dock, wounded people in space several times, multiple casualty calls to cargo and to engineering. As Dr Magojiro, i pick paramedic or medical doctor depending on what the station needs, and the staff already on the roster. I always join sometime after roundstart There was about ten people involved in that. I came when Xequal called out that evelyn was subdued to the west of the bridge, and called for medical to come help cut the hardsuit off. I was attempting to sedate her and take her back to medical for treatment and hardsuit removal in surgery. I wasn't part of some lynch mob, and the only attacklog i generated was injecting soporific. I was there because medical was called there. I was getting in your way at the end because evelyn was downed and in critical health, and we needed to get her out of there before she died from those wounds, crit only gets worse, and most of that crowd was randomly attacking her with no business to be there. As a doctor its my responsibility to uphold a strict ethical code, including treating people regardless of their criminal or political status, and opposing unethical behaviour (like beating someone to death in a mob because they annoyed you) During the mass-winding at the end, i was never actually winded. and released without any questioning -
No This is dumb The bartender's shotgun is not lethal. it has beanbag shells He's also not allowed to take it outside the bar The bar is a place for people to RP and hang out during quiet times, We are an HRP Server, it serves a major purpose. People don't tend to work constantly for long periods, they need little breaks for refreshment, and a change of scene. then they return to work renewed Its also a good place for engineers, paramedics and security officers to rest in while they wait for something to happen, being in a good centralised location. With nobody to talk to, emergency responder jobs often go SSD when there's no work
-
I think a point is being missed here. Almost nobody (except menown) is actually going to serve an IRL year as a cadet, you just write into your backstory that you did. Most head of staff positions are supposed to take several years of experience, iirc 10 years for a captain. I challenge you to find anyone playing captain who's been here for 10 years. These are lore requirements, not real-time requirements. This thread is asking for a lore change to make it apply in realtime to gameplay, when nothing else in the game does. its silly
-
There's a heavy officer vest? is it actually named that, or are you referring to the tactical vest? I'm not sure i've seen it You're not alone, i love this idea. Energy pistols are amazing since they have both Stun and Kill settings However i'd only support this if we renamed them Phasers
-
I don't see this personally, but our opinions differ There is no 'heavy armour vest'. There's the Officer Armour vest, which is standard equipment, much like real police wear all the time. There's also three specialised armours stored in the armoury (which officers alone can't access) and the Tactical Armour which is stored in tactical storage, again inacessible. Armour vests are part of the standard officer uniform, and they're needed because they give security the essential edge in scuffles with drunken hooligans. And cause bruises instead of broken ribs and organ damage. In order to take down someone nonlethally, you need to have an advantage over them. The .45 pistol is also similiar to sidearms real life police carry as standard, though unlike those, it's filled with nonlethal rubber ammo, and the wounds it causes usually wear off. Rubber ammo deals pain damage instead of actual damage to a significant degree, which means when someone is damaged enough to make them collapse, they've not actually suffered enough damage to break bones and pose a threat to their life. Some fractures are unavoidable, and the Pistol with rubber ammo is generally supposed to be the higher point of escalation for normal field duties, flash and baton are preferable. Rubber bullets don't generally penetrate the skin or stick in wounds, and they rarely cause bleeding Well that's where we disagree, i'd expect security to carry both of those things at all times. And the officer armour vest isn't bulky. It doesn't even have shoulderpads. There ARE bulky armours, it is not one of them. It is light, flexible armour. I agree, we should have this regulation But i disagree with your idea of what this regulation should say. I think the regulation should specifically allow vests and rubber pistols, and forbid heavier things (like shotguns and energy rifles)
-
I'm definitely against erasing history. Afaik all the books in the archive were written and added by players Aren't there categories for adult books? As long as they're safely classified in the proper section, i don't see a problem
-
This is actually how it already works, but it doesn't scale much. Emp blasts only have a heavy range and a light range. Anything farther away from the centre is only hit by the light blast, which has half effects However a full EMP hit damages IPCs for 500. Half of that. 250, is still an instakill because humanoid mobs have 200 health Making it taper off a lot more would be nice.
-
Figures menown would be the one to request this :^) A security officer is supposed to be able to handle a variety of weapons, some of them military grade. Wear similar armour, be trained in EVA combat, resolving hostage situations, arrest procedure, processing, questioning and making reasonable judgements in the field. And possibly also be proficient in basic medical training and piloting military exosuits. I don't think a month is realistically enough time for all that I'd much rather see more cadet slots, and security positions above cadet be whitelisted somehow
-
I'd question why calling someone a cunt and telling them to commit suicide is okay, but jokes that mention rape (he's definitely not threatening anything) are somehow off limits, it seems arbitrary https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/88/64/a8/8864a8f537627ee8218f53b067aa99e3.jpg This feels relevant This was hearted fight between two people and both sides were childish, i don't think it's reasonable to punish only one for things said in the heat of the moment, and personally i'dd rather nobody was banned about this
-
Why shouldn't bullets to the head instantly kill organic beings? Why should organics be given resistance to bullets in the brain by virtue of spawning in? Instantly killing players is cheap and denies RP. Using 'shielding' is a matter of semantics, i'm not saying shielding, that's your word to try to make my argument seem unreasonable, i'm saying reducing the effect of EMPs as a baseline. to a point where they're crippling, instead of instakill. I'm definitely not saying take away their weakness. Being heavily damaged, radio-muted and stunned by EMP would still make it a serious weakness. Nothing is preventing the addition of EMP shielding mechanics on top of that, to reduce the damage or stun level. in much the same way as humans can put on armour to protect from bullets, even though they're not instantly killed by bullets without it.
