  1. Everyone seems to focus on how to kill them. The problem i see here is that a creature with ranged attacks is getting into melee range, why is it doing that?. Realistically it's a poor tactical choice, and these are supposed to be advanced military drones. They should be retreating and firing so they can easily outmatch anyone armed with melee weapons. Their tactics don't make sense, it should be changed. for reasons of logic and believability, not because it makes them hard
  2. This seems good. Just make sure that the locking and unlocking can only be done by someone outside (ie, not by the occupant)
  3. You're probably right, they're closer in tone to each other than dex/+ are. I was really just thinking based on which pill icons are available The one i selected is yellow and orange, so it'd do well for both kelotane and dermaline. the pure yellow one can be used for alkysine instead I thought i made it clear, the OP contained this text So it wouldn't affect that antag gimmick at all. In fact, i think it could help it, with pills being autocoloured, people would be more likely to trust a pill of a familiar colour and name, and hence more likely to swallow it without question. It could even give the chemist some plausible denial "Hey it's blue, the machine made it that way automatically, of course its just dexalin. Wasnt me that poisoned him"
  4. An apparently little-known chemistry feature, because i rarely see anyone doing it. When making pills in the chemmaster, you can select a visual style of the pill, by clicking on this little icon in the lower right As can be seen, there's quite a variety of options But as mentioned, i rarely see anyone doing this. Possibly because its inconvenient and they're in a hurry. So i'd like to propose a feature to improve things a bit here (and if it's well-liked, ill code it myself) For most commonly-used compounds, ill define a default pill style. Chosen based on a common-sense matching of the pill colour with the compound colour Then, whenever a chemical is moved into the Chemmaster's buffer, if it's the largest quantity currently there, the chemmaster will automatically select the pill style, based on the default i've defined in code. Much the same way as the appearance of a mixed drink is chosen based on the highest quantity in the glass. Like Dexalin/Dexplus, and dylovene Or bicardine and dermaline That way, the pills will automatically come out in a style and colour that allows you to easily identify what it is, without having to remember to set it whenever you're making pills. But i don't want to override player choice. This would not replace your ability to choose the pill style you want to make. If you want a different pill style from the automatically selected one, simply choose it after you're done moving chemicals into the buffer, before you print the pill. The automatic selection will only happen each time you add something to the buffer. This would be a simple, interesting feature that would work transparently, and cause chemists to always output pills with a helpful appearance. Some things that i'll choose a pill style for: Dexalin/Dex Plus Dermaline Kelotane Bicaridine Alkysine Dylovene Carbon Iron Paroxetine/citalopram Oxycodone/Tramadol Rezadone Synaptizine Hyperzine Basically anything that's ever likely to be dispensed in pill form, i'll choose an appearance for. I could even make some new sprites for pills that don't have a suitable appearance already, like a black one for carbon Thoughts?
  5. You can make the exact same argument about surgery. not all doctors know surgery, but they still have access. Why? Because what a person can do is decided by their character's skills, not the job they've chosen. Characters can hold multiple degrees if they're old enough, and be skilled in multiple fields. Especially skrell. And IPCs Not all doctors will be skilled in virology, but some definitely will be. Those that don't have the skills will stay out, they generally do anyway, i've never observed any problem with tons of inexperienced noobs crowding into virology. I don't think there's any problem here that needs to be solved except crate access. If people are abusing extra access too much, admins can step in, and they will, they already do. I got bwoinked about doing surgery and chemistry as a nurse, and stopped when admins made it clear about what IC skills are reasonable (I resumed surgery after promoting to doctor a couple weeks later, with specific admin approval) Let RP decide the restriction, not mechanics. Admins will deal with abuse. Giving medical doctors access to open the virus crates is sufficient, it will change nothing in terms of balance (doctors can already take virus samples from virology) but it will be a quality of life improvement for virologists. Everyone wins, no farther-reaching changes are needed.
  6. presumably some kind of metal-reinforced fabric. Maybe welding isn't the best way to do it, but there needs to be some way to lock them from the outside. One of the core bases of support for this idea, is so that antags can use them to kidnap hostages, so they need some way to seal the occupant inside and prevent them from either escaping, or suiciding by jumping out while travelling through space.
  7. Oh my god, you're lyla too. I had no idea. Alexis and Lyla are much-beloved, the station always feels safer with them in security. Alexis is caring and compassionate and fun and cheerful, but also pretty good at protecting people and comes when called. Plus armour, i love armour. Alexis sutton makes smoking seem cool +1 from me
  8. I don't see how wearing trousers over boots is stretching. anything apart from skinny jeans will usually fit over boot-ankles quite easily. Tucking them into the boots is the wierd thing, that restricts movement. I see painters, decorators, builders, warehouse workers etc, all around glasgow regularly, i live in an industrial part of town. Everyone wears loose-hanging trousers or overalls, that hang over their boots
  9. Fair, if that's the case then virologist should be separate to medical doctor because it very much is. A good comparison is xenology to scientist. Right, should I just separate the jobs completely or work in Doctors no longer getting virology access and only CMO + virologists do. Don't do either of these please Give Medical Doctors access to open the crates, done. Simplest solution, upsets least people. Doctors having access to virology is important. Because as mentioned, many doctors do it alternatively, it's a niche role and not often filled by a specialist. Virology is also a very common place for carp to attack, and it's really rather important that doctors have access there so we can let engineers and security in.
  10. For CMO, i've always liked Chief of Staff Chief of Medicine Dean of Medicine
  11. Mission Statement The Independent Health Advisory Board shall work towards increasing the overall health and safety of all NanoTrasen employees during their work aboard the NSS Exodus, and provide Central Command Internal Affairs, and Station Command possible programs, initiatives, policies and reports on which to act upon, implement and consider. Who we Are A group of medical, nutrition, engineering and security professionals that are dedicated to ensuring that NanoTrasen employees work in the healthiest and safest environment possible. We are completely a suggestive body, with no binding authority or official relation to Central Command. We are however endorsed by Central Command Internal Affairs and have an official Liaison from their division. What we Do As seen in our mission, the Independent Health Advisory Board is a group of employees working with NanoTrasen as an independent, non-binding review board, that looks at current station-situations, and provides program ideas, possible initiatives, and policy/regulation revisions to Central Command Internal Affairs and Station Command. We also offer our services to do independent health and safety reviews while on board, at which point we can make a report for CCIA or Station Command. Our Executive We are overseen by a hardworking team of professionals, hand-selected by our current Chairperson, and approved by a quorum of five associate members. You can see who occupies these positions in our membership registry found below. Alert System At bi-monthly meetings, the representatives are required per our manifesto to provide the entire board with a set of alerts for their respective area. The possible alerts are green (nominal), blue (minor issue or major issue developing) and red (major issue), with each step up elevating in seriousness. Alert levels dictate how the board will operate it's meetings at the point of statement and until the alert is changed. The alerts will also be shared on this hub in official notices. Our Manifesto Our organization is based on guidelines recorded in our manifesto, available HERE for viewing. The manifesto can only be changed by a super-majority vote of the entire board, and may only be altered directly by the Chairperson or Secretary; or in their absence, the CCIA Liaison. Communications As outlined in our manifesto, we operate and maintain a discord communication channel, for all members to use. This can be accessed here: https://discord.gg/010ig7iE7JMtadcBD Please only join if you are an accepted associate member. Membership and Registry Within the board, we have two forms of membership, executive and associate. Executive members are members appointed to select positions outlined in the manifesto, or a specific delegated role underneath an executive themselves. Associate members are the primary group of the board, and operate as the voting body. Associate members help the executive create plans, do independent reviews and accomplish other important tasks. Per our manifesto, we may only maintain a body of 20 associate members. You may apply for associate membership by using the following application: We are also interested in recruiting a PR representative The following is a list of all current members:
  12. simpler answer: Give doctors access to the sample crates. anyone with medical training should know enough not to screw around with them, no need to code access specific to an alt title. This implemnentation would be more useful too, since many doctors do virology as a secondary thing when they're not needed for patients.
  13. I'm pretty sure that yes, it should be a physical item. What datberry means i think is, the exosuit compartment is entered by rightclicking it and selecting an option 'Enter Passenger Compartment'. And that's what he wants to see Ie, it should be possible to unfold it without being inside it, though presumably once it's activated, opening it would vent the air inside Here's how i see implementing it: A rescue ball has two states, folded and unfolded. When folded, its a small item that fits inside the internals box that everyone spawns with. When unfolded, its a physical item that sits on the ground and looks roughly spherical. When unfolded, the rescue ball will initially take on the atmosphere of the area around it You can unfold a rescue ball by holding it in your hand and clicking it, the same way rollerbeds and bodybags work. You can fold a rescue ball back up by clicking and dragging it onto yourself, which will put it into your hand in a folded state. A person can enter it by right clicking it and selecting Enter Rescue Ball from a context menu. A person can be placed into it by grabbing them and then clicking on the ball with the grab. A person can leave the rescue ball by rightclicking it and selecting Open Rescue Ball while inside it (or maybe as an option from the Object tab that would appear there.) A person can be removed the exact same way, by anyone outside it. When the rescue ball is opened, the person inside would be ejected, and the atmosphere in the ball would take on the same properties as the atmosphere of the tile its on. A rescue ball can be activated by anyone, with a rightclick option 'Activate Rescue Ball'. Or it can be activated by someone inside it, by simply leftclicking it. Once activated, the rescue ball would deploy a single-use chemical reaction which would create a breathable contained atmosphere inside. This would also set an internal flag to signal that it's been activated (so it can't be activated again). Ideally this would also alter the name of it to Rescue Ball (used). A rescue ball can be locked from the outside, by using a lit welding torch on it. When locked, a rescue ball can't be opened until you unweld it. Hope that's not too overcomplicated, it would require several new verbs to be added, but i think it's a reasonable implementation, that would allow its usage both for personal survival, and for hostage taking.
  14. I've done enough theoretical poking around in code, now i'm attempting to compile and test things out, having downgraded my byond version to make the development branch compile Everything seems to work just fine. I can compile an executable, host a local server in dream daemon, connect to it, and do stuff. However, i have a lot of oddities and useability issues that i'd like some advice on: 1. Testing code changes. Right now the only way i can see to test things is to compile a binary, host a local server in dream daemon, connect to it, adminstart the round, and check things there. This process takes 5-10 minutes each time. Isn't there some quicker way to test things? 2. Debug messages. What's a good way to send messages to the client to report on things. So far i'm just using user.visible_message, which works i guess, but feels unsuitable 3. dmb security settings. Whenever i try to open a dmb by running it directly from the file explorer in windows, or by using Run in the build menu within dream maker, i get spammed by messages As far as i can tell this is because it's running in ultrasafe security mode, but why? And why is it asking for permission to access things inside .git folders anyway, those are related to github and not directly to the code. the more i answer yes to, the more come up, and i'm not sure if things will work right if i decline them. any way to change the default security setting? 4. Whenever i attempt to save a character setup on my local server, dream daemon crashes. Maybe something to do with not having a place to save files, but what can/should i do about it?
  15. bottles containing any chemical should douse someone they hit in it. throwng bottles of acid at people could become an interesting weapon Cups of coffee especially, should break open and douse the victim in hot coffee, causing minor burns
  16. I agree with everything kaed said. Being able to smoke is really the least of their problems, and honestly its kind of amusing. i've seen a few IPCs doing it and having fun, i'm sure some lore reason could be made up to justify it. something to do with ventilation ports
  17. Welp, i've been looking at the wrong thing, i'm looking at the tech it gives, not what's required. Thanks alberyk. Point about the consumption is still relevant though
  18. This made no sense. Are you saying its classed as illegal so that you can break it down and research it? It NEEDS illegal tech to build it in the first place.
  19. So i just went and read the wiki page. People aren't just RPing this spontaneously From the Biology section So yea, unathi can't digest plants is our actual official lore
  20. I'm currently working on documenting efforts for the robotics page, and research the Energy Relay at this exact moment. It requires Illegal Technology at 2 in order to make, so it's apparently an illegal item What it does, is charges the battery by 12w (per second?), and drains 100x that much from the nearest APC. Exactly how often it procs is unclear, but it shows as a drain of 2-3Kw on the equipment section of an APC's power load This is wasteful, sure, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a drop in the ocean. The engine usually outputs a load of about 400kw, and produces way more than that. The main SMES outputs up to 1.1Mw, , and a decent engineering team can amp up the engine and power network to put >5Mw through without too much issue other than running out of transmission coils. So it powers an exosuit by draining power from the station. You know what else would drain power from the station though? Plugging in a toaster. Or in actual gameplay terms, building basically anything. The quantity of power used is miniscule enough to not pose a problem to anyone I'm not seeing any logical reason why this should be illegal. Especially given the fact that it seems to come as standard on Marauders which IIRC the ERT uses (or maybe on adminspawned ones) It's a really useful equipment module, though perhaps the ability to recharge anywhere is a bit powerful, is that why it's restricted? For balance reasons? Personally, i think it shouldn't be illegal, it's a shame to see it never used. I'd like to see it use power storage research instead. But also, i think the power drain should be amped up a lot. Like 30x it's current value. Right now even if an antag were using it to maraud around endlessly in an exosuit, you'd never be able to track them by watching the power drains. Their draining would have no functional effect on the rooms they drain from, and so there's basically no downside. If it's power drain were in the range of 100kw, it would seriously stress departments and be detectable to a decent electrician who's setup the RCON network properly. That kind of value would start browning out a department as it hits the SMES output load limit, and APCs near it would start to turn red as they're losing more than recieving. I think that'd be interesting.
  21. Am i the only one who finds this rather inappropriate? It was curious and interesting when i thought this band was Nebula's original creation. But as Delta points out, Steam Powered Giraffe is a real band which exists, and has millions of views on youtube. (They're pretty darned good too) Imitating their name seems slightly crass, at best. And possibly opens us to a risk of copyright infringement. I don't see why you couldn't come up with something original.
  22. I love PAL and i approve of all the fun stuff he does with telescience. It's nice to see someone thoroughly exploring, what is usually a really underused feature. +1 from me
  23. I thought i already voted on this. Jack Davidson is a fun guy, and an especially fun antag. The round i saw him playing as vampire was really awesome to watch, and i approve . +1
  24. I agree. I also want glass bottles to break when fired from vendors. I support this idea
  25. This seems like something that would have performance implications for the server, since you'd have to first check what's between speakers and listeners. In addition i feel it would dampen RP, i ovten talk to people through windows. I don't like this idea, it's a no from me
