  1. Here we go:http://www.byond.com/docs/ref/info.html#/sound/var/xyz You don't have to completely rewrite or spawn anything, it seems pretty simple Actually byond looks like it has some pretty deep sound functions. There's nothing impossible about this and no technical reason it can't be done, as far as i can tell
  2. I doubt that, we already have location-based sounds. If you have a pair of speakers setup, you can hear exactly where something is coming from. The sound just needs to be played at a different location
  3. <1% is a massive understatement. Hallucinations make an appearance quite often. Whenever some newbie engineer looks into the supermatter without goggles, or whenever some chemist poisons people with mindbreaker, when the supermatter blows, or when a changeling runs around stinging people The changeling part is most important, making those hallucinations more convincing means more opportunities for chaos
  4. Something i very often see unathi players RPing anyway, and i think quite a few of them believe it is so, although our code doesn't support it. Unathi are carnivorous, they naturally prefer a diet of meat, and shouldn't be able to digest nutriment. It shouldn't poison them either, just have no effect, pass through undigested like fibre in humans. Could be done very easily by adding a conditional check to animal protein to give nutrition if the consumer is unathi, and then return (to prevent calling the parent function). And another check in nutriment to just return. Simple, interesting dietary requirement created. As mentioned, everyone already acts like it exists anyway, unathi don't eat non-meats very much. Making them give no nutrition wouldn't hamper their ability to eat mixed foods, they'd just only be satieted by the meaty parts of it, and thus need to eat more meat, which is fun for everyone
  5. It's nice to have a reasonable response. Thank you for your patience <3 I'd consider this issue resolved, no action requested except to lock and archive the thread
  6. I don't like raven as moderator. I feel his attitude is condescending, overly critical, and unbecoming of the professionalism needed. He seems to cause, or at least get into, a lot of trouble and friction with other players, and is sometimes overly aggressive in his conduct. I'd rather see him remain a player, and his moderatorship end when the trial does. I don't think he's the right fit to be a face of the community, as a moderator has to be.
  7. Any opinion in regards to sound effects? I linked two which i felt suitable. There are plenty of others on that site, and many other directories, the internet has a vast swathe of public-domain sound effects, and we could probably use things with a noncommercial license too
  8. @jennalele This seems to have inflated a bit more than intended. i died, these things happen. I was really more upset about the impression that you were taunting me about it :/ Instead of the replies you did send, i'd really have been happier with an overall shorter explanation, like 'Sorry too busy with griefers'. I'd have understood that completely and not taken the issue farther. As it was, i had no idea that you were busy with anything until the round end. and 'rip you' came across as some combination of lazy and vindictive, which i now understand wasn't the case So just, more communication next time? (actually, saying that explanation would be less communication, but it'd still be more helpful)
  9. Following testing with you today, a brief feedback list: -Presence seemed a tiny bit too spammy, increase the delay by 20% -Glare doesn't work as a flash. Causes no blind/blurriness effects. It only knocks people down. It should work properly like a flash, complete with the vision loss -Dominate commands are too subtle, they need to be more noticeable. Aside from a larger font size and brighter colour, I think there should also be a sound effect (that only the victim hears). For example: https://www.freesound.org/people/IanStarGem/sounds/341841/ -Make embracing actually work. -Make food/drinks containing blood, increase the vampire's useable blood. Add some code to blood's affect_ingest to benefit vampires, and then add some code to the drinks to make them put the appropriate amount of blood into the stomach -Add the memory-wiping message to being fed on, make sure its noticeable -Also recommend adding some more messages for the victim being fed on. For a start, instead of ''s neck', the victim could instead see 'Your body goes numb as you feel 's fangs sinking into your neck'. -And then maybe some more messages during feeding, like 'You feel light-headed as the life is slowly drained from your body' -Chiropteran screech should really have a sound effect too. This is public domain for example: https://www.freesound.org/people/nick121087/sounds/333832/
  10. She's an adorable intern who really seems interested in learning, and i love to have someone to teach. fun to have around, reassuring, supportive, and reliable Personally, i don't quite like the name of the diona, but that's because i think diona names should be nouns. Like 'Dreary Midnight in a City of Lost Souls' But that's just me, i'm told this isn't a rule +1 in any case
  11. The real problem is this You don't seem to realise, this isn't funny, or fun, or interesting. Medical already deals with this stuff constantly from actual griefers. We dont need more of it, and dressing it in a thin semblance of RP doesn't really change what it is. I'm just a vote, i don't have any power over these things. But if this is what you're gonna be like, yea, i don't want you here. You consistently make the round less fun for me whenever you're there
  12. Byond Key: NanakoAC Staff Byond Key: AimlessAnalyst Reason for complaint: Not helping with a bug. Events happened on: 2016-05-14 At roughly the time of: 11.10 GMT During a deadhour cult round, aimless was the only admin online. Security (which consisted of only one person) asked me to come out and help him at the research outpost, and to cut open doors with my fire axe. I took the odysseus too because the shuttle dock was vented, the officer was in my passenger compartment. We went there, found nobody, and decided to go back, we got into the station, and up to the outer door of the shuttle dock, and then my internet died. got disconnected for a few minutes. I came back to find my axe gone, but i was still inside the odysseus, as far as i'm aware, there's no way he could have taken it from me, because there's no way to easy way to take me out, and i wasn't gone long enough. It was simply destroyed in some bug. As i logged in, the officer was gone and there was a portal next to me. I hadn't noticed the axe was gone yet, and decided not to follow through without confirmation that it was safe first. I tried talking to him over the radio, but got no answer, and the portal naturally closed. So there i was, trapped in a vented dock. I'd prepared for this eventuality by bringing the axe, but a bug had destroyed it. I asked aimless in OOC to spawn another one for me. I figured maybe it's because i was asking in the wrong place, so i did an ahelp: Aimless didn't respond to the ahelp, berry took it. So i tried calling for help, nobody came. It became clear pretty quickly that the cult was murdering people, and help wouldn't be coming. There was no farther response. I couldn't get through the locked doors in my way without that axe. I tried breaking through a window to space to reach the shuttle, but i just managed to get lost in space as the shuttle left without me. At this point, i was about to just pass it off as aimless being too tired to do admin duties, given the words at the start of my quote. And the round ended No reason, i was just told to hush. So i hushed, i wasn't about to start an argument in OOC. I think there's a time and a place for it, and this forum is the place. Aimless delayed the end of the round, presumably to do admin stuff like warning and banning people, so clearly admin work was being done. But not my request, i feel a little singled-out here. Was my request unreasonable? I thought using their powers to solve bugs is one of the things admins were supposed to do. The bug had a direct effect on gameplay, and all i was asking for was it to be undone.
  13. ..huh? Well asking for the ERT to be removed is absurd, i hope nobody is even considering that. The CMO should have engaged with you more, and talked to you, sure. But why should he comply with your demands? By this point, you guys had already proven your willingness to lie and to kill. The CMO had no guarantee that: 1. You actually had hostages and weren't bluffing 2. That you wouldn't execute them anyway once you got your demands. 3. That giving into your demands would help anyone More importantly, security was basically nonexistent, since you guys had control of the brig, and hence the armoury. We had two barely armed officers running around ineffectually, and me, the cadet, unarmed and cut off from the rest. From my point of view at least, security couldn't reasonably expect to stand up to you, and hence to stop you if you did go on a murderboning rampage. As far as anyone can tell, the odds of those hostages dying was near-certain anyway, ERT was the only hope to regain control of the situation. I don't see any other choice he could have reasonably made, besides calling the ERT. He did however fuck up by calling it normally, he should have sent a fax requesting a silent ERT Realistically speaking, there's two main reasons to listen to an enemy's demands. 1. To buy time to regain control of the situation, for example to allow security to get armed up and into position, and plan something. We had functionally no security so that wasn't happening. 2. To get them to go away. I'm not sure if you actually stated what your demands were, but as mentioned since you kind of had the station at your mercy, there wasn't much reason you wouldn't just stick around and murder/oppress everyone If i were the CMO in that situation, i would have sent a fax requesting a silent ERT, and i'd have talked to you and tried to negotiate and give you things to buy time until they could make a surprise assault. But as mentioned, i don't think not-calling-ERT was really an option
  14. I know i posted on an appliation of yours, but i cant find it anywhere in this thread. have you made more than one application?
  15. Had the (dis)pleasure to play alongside Carl Duran in engineering today as Nanako Johannesen, where he was an engineer. A full Station Engineer, despite the engineering apprentice position being available. No idea why. He's a chemist, he has no business being in engineering, and if he DOES want to learn engineering then he should pick apprentice. As it was, he didn't seem to fully know what he was doing. I arrived to find the engine overheating at 3700k, and it almost delaminated before we stabilised it. He'd thrown the cooling valves and opened the core vent, thus venting all the coolant into space. Throughout the process of fixing the engine, he repeatedly screamed at me both IC, and OOCly (by using double parenthesis, and not the proper looc method.), called me various names including bitch and cunt repeatedly, and fixated entirely on shouting at everything he thought that i was doing wrong. Such as the fact i was wearing a voidsuit instead of a radsuit (because i was expecting gas leaks, and having to spacewalk to fix this mess), or his strange belief that i wasn't wearing mesons (which was entirely wrong, i put them on before i entered) or the fact that i wouldn't waste phoron tanks on the 'intercooler' which it turned out later he was referring to the waste compression loop, which is pretty minor and not at all relevant when the engine is in danger of delaminating. He was working off a wiki with apparently little or no engine experience, and he shouldn't be holding a full staff position in engineering. Following that mess, i attempted to teach carl more about the engine and the monitoring room controls, but he ditched my lesson and went off to drink at the bar. And then he managed to do the same tired shit carl duran does every shift, got high, caused a lot of trouble and suicided, he'd thrown himself down disposals and died. After he got cloned, he admitted to having picked up and injected himself with several syringes of god-knows-what that he found lying around, and ICly claimed going down disposals was an accident. It's still suicide griefing in my book. I don't care whether he's RPing a griefer, he's indistinguishable from the actual griefers we get every day, and just creates headaches for everyone I've definitely made up my mind. I don't want to give this guy any whitelists, i don't want him anywhere near any department i'm in, and i really don't want him on aurora at all. Not sure why he hasn't been banned yet.
  16. this slipped under the radar, but i think it merits some attention
  17. It should only heal damage if the damage is already under a certain value (like 3)
  18. Jack Davidson was a really fun vampire in a round i observed yesterday. Kept evading security and leading them on a fantastic chase around the station, stole all the medkits in medical while several people were in the lobby just out of vision He made the round interesting and fun, I approve, +1
  19. One idea at a time. this is a step in the right direction Skrell already get poisoned AND gain no nutrition or blood from eating animal protein
  20. Eating any kind of food causes your body to regenerate blood levels, at a rate of 4 blood units per unit of nutriment. Currently Animal Protein works the same way as nutriment This didn't feel quite right, i did a little digging: http://www.livestrong.com/article/495836-what-to-eat-after-you-lose-blood/ So my suggestion is simple. Make Animal Protein regenerate twice as much blood as normal nutrient does. It would mean doctors could give more specific dietary advice (you just lost a lot of blood, go eat a steak) and it'd also create a little more room for RP with vampires, who are the main source of any gameplay involving blood. Get your thralls a good supply of meat to help them heal up faster. Vampire chef OP pls.
  21. I see nothing wrong with these ideas. And you know, i was wondering why i occasionally see flattened boxes lying around...
  22. -reserved-
  23. Zombie Powder is the only chemical in the game which mutes the victim(prevents talking), making it a premier ganking tool since it also prevents movement. IT doesn't last long, 10 seconds per unit, but if you can get enough, you've got yourself an easy takedown method. It's not actually very useful for its intended purpose, of faking death. Due to the short lived duration, the fact it damages the subject, and a couple of flaws that make it easy to see through the fakedeath In a really bizarre little bug, both mercury and lithium when injected, will cause you to move around randomly, but ONLY if you're in space. They will move in random directions you even though you have no leverage to move with
  24. Carbon, a simple element, has a function even when not mixed into things. When made into pill form and ingested, carbon will clean the patient's stomach, removing other chemicals from there. Now we have an effective way to clean ingested toxins, and deal with mushroom-scoffing assistants! Tricordrazine heals all four damage types. Not just three, as the name would imply. It's also more widely available than you might expect because; Donk pockets are full of healing magic! When a donk pocket is warmed up in a microwave, it contains a bit of tricordrazine, and eating it will heal your wounds, burns and poisons a bit. However it's important to note, oddly, that donk pockets only contain tricord when they're warm. it magically appears when they're heated, and disappears if you let them cool. Dylovene heals more than toxins. IT also cures drowsines, hallucinations, and liver damage. Rezadone is a semi magical wonderdrug which heals everything but brain damage. It's the only medicine that can heal genetic damage outside of a cryotank, and its side effects are minimal. In addition, foods made with space carp can be made safe, by adding copper and cryptobiolin in equal quantities to the carpotoxin, the chemicals will react and make rezadone instead. Note that to add chemicals to foods, you have to use the condimaster in the freezer to put them into condiment bottles, and apply it from those. Arithrazine, a rarely used anti radiation drug, is better than it seems. Aside from purging radiation insanely fast, it also works as a powerful antitoxin (150% better than dylovene), and is useful to stabilise patients in sepsis. Although it does cause some trauma damage to the patient, it's actually pretty minor and will self heal easily. it doesn't damage internal organs at all Methylphenidate, Paroxetine, and Citalopram, the three mental stabilising drugs, don't really have gameplay effects. For the most part all they do is give roleplay-only messages to the patient. Paroxetine can cause hallucinations though Synaptizine isn't just a cure for mindbreaker, as the description used to imply. It's actually a powerful, long-lasting, stimulant and painkiller that works amazingly well as a performance enhancing drug, causing you to recover much faster from stuns, weakness, drowsiness and paralysis. This makes the user massively resistant to flashbangs, and actually enables you to get up and walk when you go down in critical condition. It could be a powerful thing to distribute to security officers before they go into battle. Berserker in a bottle. Potassium Chlorophoride is a massively overpowered paralytic. It doesn't actually stop the heart, as the descriptions used to suggest, but it will instantly cause the victim to fall down, and stay down for over 3 minutes per unit. It doesn't mute the victim, but they're immediately unable to fight back, which makes taking their headset or covering their mouth pretty easy. a 5u dose in an autoinjector or hypospray will incapacitate someone for 15 minutes, which could actually make it a useful weapon in battle, and probably better for self defense than chloral hydrate. This seems really overpowered and will probably generate lots of upset people when used, it should probably be nerfed a bit. Speaking of which, Chloral Hydrate being lethal at a 15u dose, is a myth. It will poison the victim, but not all that much, you'll need a lot more than 15u to get a victim into a state where they'll eventually die, and it's not killing quickly either way.
  25. So as some of you may know, i've spent the past week working tirelessly on the Aurora Wiki, since i joined the wiki team. The biggest bulk of my work so far has been on the Guide to Chemistry wiki page, which i've been mostly rewriting from the ground up. It's quite a ways from finished yet, but it's more than half done, and you can see my progress here: https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Guide_to_Chemistry But i've created this thread for more than just advertising. In the process of undertaking this project, i've discovered a LOT of new things. A lot of bugs, a lot of hidden effects, and a lot of content that was barely touched before, due to nobody understanding how it worked. Theres a lot of new information that needs to be shared Everything i've found is documented there, but you might not notice the new things unless you were looking for them. The purpose of this thread is simple, i'm going to tell you directly about all the cool, unknown, or disappointing discoveries i've made, in an effort to raise awareness amongst the community, and encourage increased levels of knowledge and competence amongst those who work with chemicals of any sort. This thread will mostly be of interest to medical players, and scientists. But there's quite a few things here that might interest security, too. And there's a lot of things in here that will give you new ideas on how to be a devious antagonist. I'll be editing things into the second post as necessary. Information coming shortly!
