  1. Xinc saved me today. I don't know what happened, an invisible attacker, an airless room, it was a bit blurry. All i remember clearly is Xinc dragging me out of there And then something attacked him and i got to watch it on the monitor, i tried to call people to help but the area was all closed off and vented, and then the sensors went dark...
  2. Marc Price was a pretty good commander today, when he took over as acting Captain And he even replied to my PDA message, i was so happy ^-^
  3. Might i ask why, and what modifications you'd suggest to the plan. What if i waited around a bit at each incident until someone turned up to see me, muahaha'ed a bit at them, then teleported away? Our chemist today spent half the shift sleeping in a locker, i think hiding inside lockers still works, at least for a significant portion of them I'd like to ask why about this too. Is it for reasons of RP/fairness? or for technical reasons. I've noticed the server lags out for several minutes when the supermatter delaminates. Is it okay to blow up SMES's, generators, monitoring console, etc? to what degree is sabotaging the power system okay? What's the interface like for teleporting. do you see a map of the station and click a location?
  4. I do agree with this, do you not play much to see it for yourself? Although i'd generally thought that since NT is paying for the supplies/ingredients, and the barman/chef's time, that those people don't have a right to charge for their goods. I figured the supply of them was just treated as part of the costs of running the station. I've worked in an office before, i'd spend way more than that on a combination of transport getting there, and food during lunchtime. But I still disagree with the assertion. On food and drink, you're not going to be spending all your money. You're pretty much guaranteed to never run out, and with no consequence or incentive to have money left over at the end of the shift, i just don't see the point in it. I don't see any problems with the idea i guess, if we're set on having a money system it seems like an improvement to it. I just don't see how it's worth developer time, or how it'd improve the game.
  5. This doesn't make any sense at all. It dilates blood vessels in the eyes, and can help with certain eye conditions. Of course it's not an ideal treatment, due to mood altering effects. But perhaps we could also make it possible to grind down in the chemistry lab and extract imidazoline from it.
  6. I'd argue it already is almost entirely useless. most of the uses for it are fiddly, annoying things that people don't do much anyway. Like accessing records computers. People (who have legitimate access) don't use those enough, making them easier to use might increase participation
  7. For those not aware, you can slot your ID card into your PDA, and then put your PDA into your ID slot. This allows doors to read the ID within the PDA, and open for you if you have access. Doing this frees up your belt slot for a belt, without having to put the PDA in your pocket. The problem with this though, is that that as far as i'm aware, this is the only function of the ID which is replicated. Several other functions of an ID, such as scanning it in vending machines, laptops, consoles, and ATMs do not work. In order to use these, you have to go through the somewhat fiddly process of freeing up both hands, having the PDA in one, opening it, ejecting the ID (which goes into the other hand), scanning it, and then putting it back It's an annoyance, and i wonder why it's there. It's never really been a big problem, but i thought i should bring it to light after seeing this: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5514 More uses for scanning IDs means more times you'll have to go through this troublesome process Is there any reason not to just fix it, so that all cases where an ID is used, can also be done by scanning a PDA? It would also be more realistic. SS13 is set roughly 450 years in the future. And we already have, right now in the present day, the ability to scan your mobile phone in order to pay for things. A PDA is basically the same thing More realism, more convenience, less annoyance to players. Why not?
  8. make marijuana treat eye damage, medical will prescribe it to vaurca
  9. I don't see any argument against it, other than the work required to implent it. But my question is why? the money system on aurora doesn't seem to serve any purpose. All the things that you'd typically spend money on, eg rent, utility bills, furniture, new clothes, luxuries, etc, are off-station. You don't typically spend your salary at work, it defeats the point of working The concept of paying for food and drink at work seems reasonable, but if it's' realistic those costs are going to be so low it doesn't matter, and i'd question the need for a money system at all. If the costs of those are high enough to be a significant dent in your paycheck, then imo that's pretty unrealistic and brings the question of "Why would anyone want to work here?"
  10. Keeping it as an archive is fine, but i think it'd be good to update the page to have a stern note saying that it's outdated, and that people should look at their job's page for actual requirements I'd also ask you to take down the sticky thread linking to that page, because it's giving it a lot of legitimacy and directing people towards, as you say, an outdated set of information Am i to understand then, that the Nurse alt title doesn't have any lower requirements, and that my character is stuck as a nursing intern until she gets older?
  11. Lemon played a pretty interesting ninja the other day Not a GOOD ninja, granted. But i can't fault him for his lack of powergaming. He was a fun spook +1
  12. http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=NanoTrasen_Occupation_Qualifications Hii, i wanted to ask some questions about this wiki page. Quite a few roles seem to be missing their requirements, i wanted to point them out too. First and foremost, The Captain. No requirements listed. I'd assume it'd be even more stringent than the chiefs of staff requiements? also the bartender, janitor, librarian, the chaplain, and Shaft Miner are not listed. Most of those civilian jobs could be assumed to have no qualifications, but shaft miner is a dangerous job that requires skill,it must have some. I see requirements for Nursing Intern, but not any of the other intern positions, although there is Security Officer Level 1, that requires having been a cadet. What do the Level 1 and level 2 variants of the same job mean? Also Nursing Assistant is in there, even through there's already an entry for medical intern. What does that refer to, perhaps the Nurse alt title of medical doctor? The latter part is a really important question for me, my character at age 27, cannot become a doctor, i'm stuck at nursing intern for now. Can i move up to Nurse?

    Map talk

Mentally unstable patients don't have that right. They lack the mental capacity to make an informed decision I'm not sure if wounded criminals do either

    Map talk

I read that the engine is being changed to tesla coil. The supermatter gets boring, but a tesla coil engine will get boring too, in time. Any single type of engine is boring. Give engineering a flexible engine room, and the ability to setup and/or experiment with multiple types of engines at their discretion
  15. Suicide verb also only works if you're an antagonist, otherwise it just pings admins that you tried to use it. People just attacking themselves until suicide is what I'm talking about. Is that even possible? You fall unconscious long before you die. Maybe if you do it in an isolated place so nobody ever finds you, and wait to slowly bleed out. But then who are you griefing? You're hurting nobody, you might as well just leave the server for all the impact your suicide will have
  16. I don't agree. If you need access to places to help out, any member of that department can print you a guest pass that can give you temporary access to anywhere they can reach, or less if they choose. Not enough people use those machines, and they're pretty useful. Can an engineer print guest passes for maintenance access? If they can't, i say give them that ability. but otherwise, empowering assistants won't do anything good for anyone but griefers
  17. Were you addressing me? I agree with you, the post you quoted is largely based on my experience as playing roboticist. I think the metal cost IS appropriate though. You are building a ~8 foot tall robot suit, it SHOULD use up a ton of metal. Supply just needs to be on the ball to supply it.
  18. I don't agree. There's a supply of crowbars around medbay if you need to be forcing open doors to reach patients. At the very least, there's one in the EMT storage, and one in the emergency toolbox in the medical storage room above it. A fire axe is a weaponised crowbar, there's no legitimate reason for a medic to have one -1 from me
  19. Quoted from: http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Vaurca K'ois is the vaurca's primary/only food substance As far as i can tell, this substance is not available anywhere on the station, despite NT employing an apparently very large number of Vaurca crewmembers. This is clearly species discrimination The lore, as far as I can see, gives no indication as to whether or not they're actually able to eat other food substances, but in the current state they're forced to anyway. I feel this should be remedied. To do this, i recommend at least point 1 below, and possibly some or all of the other points too. 1. Add K'ois spores to the seed dispensers around the garden, and allow us to grow it. Hungry vaurca can grow their own in the public garden if there's no chef around. 2. Add some raw, frozen K'ois mushrooms to the cold storage in the kitchen, maybe only a little supply so there's still a reason to grow it 3. Add K'ois paste to condiment or drink dispensers around the cafeteria area 4. Add dried K'ois bars to candy vending machines around the station In addition, i recommend all of the following, although optional 1. Make non Vaurca species take some toxin damage when they eat K'ois (it causes nausea in humans) 2. Make vaurca gain far less nutrition from non K'ois foods, and/or some mild toxin damage 3. Add in some recipes using K'ois as the main ingredient. Boiled K'ois, K'ois soup, K'ois pizza, K'ois paste sandwiches, etc. K'ois cooked in some way should be more nutritionally efficient, so there's a reason to not just eat it raw I'm sick of typing K'ois now. But yea, this would make a lot of sense. NT should be providing for the varied needs of their nonhuman employees. It would also give the chef's job a little bit more thought, instead of just sticking a ton of burgers on the counter and calling it a day

    RD Antags

Just want to chime in to say, i've never seen an evil research department actually do mad science. No secretly building military mechs or laser cannons or anything like that. In my experience an RD antag just lures her department to the research outpost and murders/converts them, then plays mostly like an ordinary antagonist. They're really wasting the opportunity.
  21. I do agree with you here, i think the bridge should be at the centre, and i'm not advocating moving it However I disagree here. You're saying that people in the bar are not available for work situations, and yet you want to move it away from the core? I'd say that's trying to change your (imo false) statement into a true one by changing the ship. People in the bar ARE available for work situations because of its central location. In fact i'd say engineers in particular are often better hanging out there than in engineering, because it's closer to all the other departments than engineering's isolated location, allowing them to respond to breaches and maintenance calls more effectively Doctors too. Once you've gathered up all your medical supplies and prepped the surgery room, there's not much to do until someone gets hurt. The bar being so close to medbay means we can responsibly go and have a coke or a cigarette (no smoking in medbay!) while watching the external hallway for any bleeding or limping people heading towards medical, and be close by because then you're making them less productive, and giving them less reason to go to the bar. Maybe you don't want anyone going to the bar, but i'd disagree with that it's a bad thing, as long as they're not getting heavily drunk on duty. i agree with you here. Well it is a game, i think games should be realistic where possible, but not where realism gets in the way of enjoyment. I'd say this is why our characters don't have to go to the toilet every so often. It'd be realistic, but it wouldn't add much to the game.
  22. i agree with killerhurtz, not having any established character makes it hard to recommend you. I'd say pick something, stick with it, and drop by medbay to hang out with nanako sometime. If you're nice to me, i'll vouch for you <3
  23. If i ever get the chance, i'd like to play as a wizard, and i have an idea in mind for how http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Guides/Wizard#Roleplaying_Information There's five spell slots, counting artefacts too. So i'd take the voidsuit, staff of animation, blink, teleport, and fireball Basically i'd focus on avoiding crewmembers and attacking isolated parts of the ship. Blowing holes in the hull, animating things to attack anyone who comes to fix them, and then getting out of there. Probably places like surgery and storage rooms to start, moving to more critical areas only when the personnel are sufficiently distracted and maybe blowing up the engine room. Hiding inside lockers while my spells cooldown if someone is nearby. My objective being hopefully, to never get seen at all, and put lots of pressure on the engineering team. I'd also like to teleport into the AI upload and give it a new law, "Your cameras cannot see the wizard" I'm wondering if this would be too powergamey though, and i'd like to ask for admin permission before doing it. RP and conversation over the radio should be possible, but i'd generally avoid direct confrontation, and probably not kill many people unless they lose to flying bonesaws or walk into vented areas. And at the end hopefully, i'd teleport onto the shuttle and hide in a locker as a stowaway Would there be any issues with playing like this? I also have some questions, having not played wizard before: 1. Can the blink spell put me into space if i use it near the outer hull? I was thinking that's mainly what i'd need the voidsuit for 2. Can the wizard initially teleport onto any point on the station, or does she arrive somewhere specific? 3. Is there a limit to how many objects i can have animated at once? 4. IS the range limit on the teleport spell anywhere i can see? or does it have a special interface for teleporting farther. Is it shorter than that, even?
  24. I'm disappointed at this swift dismissal, i'd like to request more information. Change one is the most important idea here, and i believe it'd give the biggest benefit. I feel there's a significant problem with antagonist distribution due to the circumstances i described
  25. Reading over this a couple more times, it actually seems quite empty. Most of these could just be summarised as "I will do my job", The only particularly ethical thing is the part about policies breaching human rights. It seems extremely odd that NT would have that in a pledge, they're known for abusing their workers I notice particularly, that all of the obligations in it, are obligations specifically to my patients, not to people in general. There's no definition of what a patient is. So i can only assume a patient is defined as someone i'm told to treat, or who comes into medbay. The rules for example, don't seem to stop a doctor from maliciously attacking others, or employing dangerous methods in self defene. There doesn't seem to be an obligation towards the care of everyone on the station, only those who qualify as my patients I suppose i'm kind of disappointed in this, it's nowhere near as restrictive or demanding as i'd expected. I wonder if it would be alright to RP an additional medical oath (medical schools typically administer them) on top of this one During a slow shift today, an antagonist attacked two tajarans in the hall. very ineptly. Nobody reported it, and the first i heard about it was when i wandered outside of medbay to find them slashing and strangling his battered, barely-alive body. I ended up having to assault my coworkers to get them to back off so i could rescue him, there was no time to call security, he was on the brink of death. Even though he was an antagonist, and attempted to murder them, he was still a sentient being, and i felt compelled to save his life. The death penalty is not legal in biesel after all It was an interesting time, i'm quite enjoying playing as a doctor with a rigid sense of morality and a strict "nobody dies on my watch" rule
