  1. Nope, this is a completely different issue. The bone isn't breaking, the bone is being set wrongly. As in, it tells me that i made a mistake and set it in the wrong place. I learned from that thread, and always made sure numerical damage was zero before operating
  2. A problem i've run into in the past, which reared up tremendously today when trying to fix two broken legs. I start repairing the bones with bone gel, set them with the bone setter, and finish the repair with bone gel again. For severe breakages, this cycle needs to be done more than once Today, i ran into something, i don't know if it's a bug, or something i did wrong. I did the gel, set, gel, fine. Did it again because the legs were broken badly, fine. Then a third time. And on the setting step of the thirc cyle, despite me not moving or interrupting the action, the bone is set in the wrong place, and the patient screams. The implications of this are not imediately obvious, but i assumed it set the process back. I was able to try setting again, then gel. since i assume it set the process back, i tried again, and again on the setting step, the bone is set in the wrong place. And once again i'm able to retry and set it correctly. Infact this happened consistently, i spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong, probably went through 15 cycles. I doublechecked i wasn't moving, changing intents or typing everything, i stopped to wash all my hands and tools, i went and got new gloves, tried everything i could think of. Every single time on the setting step, the bone is set in the wrong place. And i'm able to retry and set it correctly. I eventually gave up and called in a colleague to take over, i couldn't figure it out. I'm not sure how, or if, he figured it out either. What is going on here? In addition, another player seems quite sure that the making of mistakes is caused by either/both of my character's Anatomy skill being less than Professional, and my character's title not being Surgeon (I'm a nurse, both are alt-titles of medical doctor) I'm fairly sure that both of these things have no mechanical effect and are only for RP. They don't affect the success rate or outcome of any ingame actions. But just to be certain, i'd like confirmation on that. Can character skills or alt titles have any mechanical effects?
  3. Ther'es a virologist hanging around medical who goes by Norm Man
  4. I'll miss director smith and captain outfield. You were nice to me hope you'll return someday
  5. Are there rules about targeting the engine> Joboy tells me yes. But i've seen three delaminations in two days, so it doesn't seem like that's true.

    I'm so happy!

What an honour. I had to tell someone! I spent the shift working with the CMO in chemistry

Just want to point out that my solution can make both sides happy. Point 3 removed, as it's been pointd out to be unnecessary
  8. This is a really quick simple idea, that will probably take under a minute to implement, and that i don't think anyone will argue with. But i may be wrong, there's always that guy Anyways, exhibit A, Sinks Sinks only take up half the tile they're on, and they're marked as non-solid, allowing you to walk onto the tile. As you can see, this looks good, it allows your character to properly stand at the sink when using it to wash stuff. Exhibit B: Sleeper Consoles This is the closest i can get to the front of a sleeper console. The consoles are solid, they block their tile entirely. but the sprite still only takes up half the tile, and it seems to be a convention that you can walk on things that use half their tile. This makes sleepers a bit annoying to use, as in medbay you have to walk into a 2x1 alcove to put patients into them, which gets untenable in high traffic situations. Similarly it makes the shuttle mini-medbay a huge pain too, space there is even more restricted, people often get stuck in the spot between consoles. So my request is simple. Set the appropriate flag on sleeper consoles, so that you can walk onto their tile, and properly stand at them while operating them
  9. BYOND Key: NanakoAC Player Byond Key: SleepyWolf Staff involved: Alberyk was notified after Reason for complaint: Playing a bound-vaurca antagonist Approximate Date/Time: 20th march 2016, 0400 approx As far as i'm aware, bound vaurca aren't allowed to be antagonists. I recall moderators and admins saying it somewhere. If you're going to play as a bound vaurca, you're expected to opt-out of all antagonist roles in the character creation screen. In this round, the mentioned player was playing as Ka'Vaix Zeke Zo'ra, a bound vaurca from the Zo'ra hive. He spent most of the round as a janitor, running around spreading gasoline on the floors. And i looked pretty silly trying to tell others that he doesn't have the free will to do that, and that someone must be giving him specific orders At the end after we evacuated, it turned out the round mode was Traitor, and this player was one of the main antagonists of the round. Bound vaurca being antags doesn't make sense. What if he'd been a vampire, expected to command and coordinate an army of thralls. Or the leader of a raider gang? The Bound vaurca caste are little more than empty vessels without an intellect, little more than instinct, they serve and cannot command others or take inititative
  10. My two cents: I like Rev mode. I always try to be a loyalist immediately, that's just my character's personality I like that it's a mode where I always win without having to get involved in violence. Personally i see it as that the rev's aren't supposed to win, just to provide interesting conflict and RP mechanics to the round. You're sacrificing yourself to make the round fun for everyone. There is one change i'd make, personally. Let the revolutionaries know who the loyalists are. Joining the loyalists should be an open, proud, unashamed statement of your loyalty, so the revs should always be able to see who the loyalists are, without the same applying in reverse I wouldn't suggest any more rebalancing than that. Maybe it's just really selfish, but i like it being unbalanced in the favour of the station. It's like an extended round, but with an interesting event in it.
  11. I see Erransis a lot, but i'm struggling to remember any defining personality traits. They often wouldn't give the time of day to a lowly intern like me, and i feel like i've sent a lot of PDA messages that were ignored Maybe it's just the traditional skrell terseness and lack of human-recogniseable expression. But all i can really remember about Erransis is the name, and that he's a skrell

    Ckey Show in LOOC

Jesus Christ, you people, it is a fucking video game. People play on Aurora to enjoy themselves, "privacy" and "privileges" should be a non-issue, and whoever you're roleplaying with is not entitled to know your ckey. Doing so would most likely encourage all kinds of meta, and possibly make players feel like they couldn't speak in LOOC, which especially troubles me because LOOC is the first place players go when they need help. Nursie, i think you've read the post of mine that you quoted. It was an implementation that would allow for privacy, and only remove it for persistent griefers to keep tabs on them

    Job: VIP

well, this isn't working out, bin it then
  14. The people have a right to their will, this is true. But consider this. People often want to continue because they're involved in interesting RP, or working on larger scale projects of various sorts. Whether its building a cultist base, or setting up a singularity, or making an army of durands, or equipping everyone with bags of holding. When you vote to transfer, you're taking that away from them. There's nothing they can do to recover that, the time they spent working on those projects and not completing them is thrown in a hole. They have no options. Now on the other hand, those people who want to transfer because they're bored of the round? They have options. They can go to cryo and come back in 15 minutes as a new role. If they're dead (or ask admin permission to suicide) then they can also respawn in a new role. If they're completely bored of what's happening on aurora, they can leave, go play on another server for a while Voting for a crew transfer, is taking away someone else's fun because you're not enjoying it, i feel that's pretty selfish sometime. A few people have mentioned repeatedly, that aurora used to have some rule, where if the game time was less than 3 hours, then the vote was weighted. Crew transfer had to get a certain larger majority (70%, i think) in order to be passed. I think that's fair, i want to see this come back The people who want to transfer have other options. The people who want to stay, don't. I think it's fair that their votes should carry more weight. I'd strongly support requiring transfer to gain a larger percentage of the votes to pass, not just >50% On a lot of rounds, especially ones where antags have just been defeated, and/or wrecked the station, a crew transfer will pass with a ~95% majority anyway. But on the edge case rounds where it's close, half the server is having their fun taken away for nothing.
  15. I completely agree, lets make it happen. I'm pretty sure converted cultists show up as antags
  16. I read the Vaurca Dialogues yesterday, all of it. You're pretty cool This offer should be accepted
  17. Oh, so THAT's what happened the other day? something attacked me, removed my headset and cuffed me in surgery. I had no clue what was going on, but i still managed to run to colleagues and shout

    Job: VIP

An idea that came to mind, and formed a bit before i've decided to present it for thoughts and feedback. The first and foremost thing, is that the VIP would be a whitelisted role. Potential for abuse is high, and it should only be open to people who've proven themselves to be good roleplayers, and a decent part of the community. So, the VIP. What is it? As the name implies, the VIP is someone important, someone trusted with access to the station Exactly who they are is yours to create an RP justification for. Some possibilities -The son/daughter/spouse/sibling/uncle of a high ranking NT Executive -An NT Executive on holiday, who's not here for business. -A retired/former captain, or similar command staff, visiting to see how the young'uns are taking care of his old place -A diplomat or representative from Biesel, or a similar governmental entity. Any kind of foreign dignitary -a visiting general, or similar military leader -One of NT's investors/benefactors, or business partners -Or even just a really, really rich tourist Whoever they are, they and their family have a reputation to preserve, and thus can be trusted not to misbehave. The VIP cannot be an antagonist The VIP does not have an assigned job on the station, they're not expected to specifically do anything. This is important. they're a glorified assistant. VERY glorified. They could help out with departments that might need it, and bend rules here and there, but their family reputation prohibits them from intentionally harming the station, and security can remove them if things get out of hand. RP Guidelines During their stay on the station, security is expected to look after them, babysit them in some cases. their safety is the station's responsibility. Other staff are expected to be polite to them and make their visit pleasant, tour them around the facilities etc, but keep them out of danger and away from anything TOO sensitive. Staff are expected to accomodate them, and generally only restrict them on the grounds of safety, like not letting them walk into vented/irradiated areas without proper gear, escorting them if they want to look around the armoury, or kicking them out of medbay when it's full of mass-casualties/viral outbreaks. Shadowing the VIP and being their bodyguard is the perfect assignment for a Cadet. Security will be expected to give them a lot of leeway. In the event of mischief, their sentances should be waived, and forgotten about for all but the most severe "hold until transfer" crimes. The saying "Ignorance of the law is not an excuse" does not apply to the VIP, and any minor crimes will be treated as well-intentioned mistakes. If the VIP DOES intentionally commit major/capital crimes, that's generally grounds for a roleban. If there is a need to arrest them, it should be done civilly and with dignity. Eg, asking them to come to security under escort, not flashing and cuffing them. The VIP player can be expected to comply with this, and not resist or make a scene, except maybe shouting "I'll have your badge for this". They're confident in the belief they'll call someone later to get the officers fired. Violent resistance is a definite no. All dealings with the VIP should be considered under the constant overhanging threat of "I'm telling daddy/the board/centcom". It should be assumed they have the connections to make your life extremely difficult if their experience isn't enjoyable. Without a specific RP exception (like being a retired general) the VIP is generally assumed to be weak, untrained in combat or weapons, and generally defenseless. As such they'd be expected to quietly go along with antags who try to take them hostage and hold them to ransom. Command staff would similarly be expected to value the VIP's life, and go to great lengths to ensure they survive a hostage situation. Mechanical effects: -The VIP has full, unrestricted access to the station. All doors will open for them as if they were the captain. -The VIP has a tracking implant inside their body somewhere, which causes them to appear on the crew manifest as if they always have sensors maxed. They cannot turn suit sensors down unless the implant is surgically removed. The implant itself cannot be destroyed or turned off, and will still broadcast its location if removed and thrown into space. -The VIP's bank account always starts with an absurdly high, functionally infinite amount of money. Millions or billions of thaler. -The VIP cannot spawn as an antagonist. they may or may not be convertible to antag factions (vampire/cult/etc)depending on feedback. -In the revolutionary gamemode, the VIP always spawns as a loyalist and cannot join the revolutionaries -age restrictions on this role would be eased, a VIP could be as young as 14 OOC: What is the purpose of this? The VIP would act as a way for veteran players, and especially moderators and admins, to "take a day off". Not having to take a job or fulfil its expectations, but stilll having the freedom to roam around the station, interact and RP with people, and if the character has the relevant experience (like a retired chief engineer) to lend a hand in crisis situations, or teach things to new players. It could also be used to play interesting occasional/one-off characters that don't fit into the normal rhythym of station life, and can display personal eccentricities that would normally make someone unemployable. It's a way to be an assistant without being part of the grey tide. Or to be an element that makes the station a little more interesting for everyone. They can also provide a focal point for conflict. A VIP is a prime target for antagonist kidnap/assasinate objectives, or for taking hostage, and sometimes an antag might be required to ensure the VIP survives even if they kill everyone else, due to daddy's syndicate connections. Silly idea? Or interesting. Would you play it? How?
  19. hmm, i'd say the same for that one too actually. Heads of Staff seem busy enough already. I definitely agree with command authorisation for building ED-209 bots, or durands, but things like testing and borgification i'd view as a more personal contract. Borgifying an assistant doesn't really have any practical effect on the station that they couldn't accomplish by just joining the game as a cyborg. it sucks for everyone involved for someone to sit around the roboticist's office for half an hour, waiting on the RD to be free to sign a form so he can become a cyborg and be useful.
  20. I don't understand why scientific or genetic testing should require a head of staff authorisation.IMO, that's a contract between the subject and the scientist, a senior staff only needs to be involved if the subject tries to get the scientist arrested for it later or something.
  21. Apologies for taking a while to come back to this. Skull, we clearly have different opinions on how things should be done, and i don't think either is going to convince the other. You have the power here, this is a battle of words i can't win. So throw this one in the bin

-Whistling- which setting? how? please provide more detailed instruction

    Ckey Show in LOOC

Here's my solution, to ensure both privacy and usefulness: 1. Give a per player setting, for whether or not YOUR ckey shows when you use looc 2. Set this setting to on by default, notify players of this fact. 3. Optionally, allow admins to force this setting on for a player, to prevent troublesome griefers from continually coming back in new characters. Privacy is a privilege of the well-behaved. anyone who wants to, can turn this setting off, and thusly hide their ckey from others for the sake of privacy, or for any of the reasons killerhurtz mentioned
  24. I liked his audit of medbay. Audit me again sometime soon! IT was also reassuring to have a loyalty-implanted person around during a time of strange shenanigans. Seeing that ariana WAS the antag after that roung, i'm pretty sure she'd have murdered me if you weren't there <3
  25. Today, Commander Beach suffered the worst case of general infections i've ever seen. I suspect someone did surgery on his head without washing their hands. He had a brain infection of level Acute++:= and in a ton of other places too. A body temperature of over 71 Celsius which shot back up in under a minute of leaving cryo. It was insane Throughout it all he was a model patient as this clueless intern tried her best to figure it out. Great guy <3
