Removing Instant-Killing/Disabling Mechanics

So security got a huge nerf. Stunning people isn't as easy as it used to be. Removing stuns wasn't as handled well as it needed to be and I think that it needs work, and hopefully this suggestion can help when it comes to a fair implementation.

Antags have a ton of access to instant killing/disabling mechanics. The .357 revolver can destroy someone's foot and knock them out. The wizard has like 5 spells that instant disable/kill. The ninja's sword can cut off legs. Cult has a few memes. Raiders have access to maxcap toxins bombs. Cyanide is a meme. Anti Radiation drugs for Dionaea is a meme. Head gibbing with slugs is a meme. EMPs fuck up IPCs a little too well.

So here are the suggestions to fix that:

- You can only gib/maim/whatever limbs when they've taken enough damage to be considered broken. Meaning that regardless of the damage, it will never be able to gib/maim on the first shot.

- Adjust or remove wizard spells so none of them insta-kill.

- Rework how missing limb penalties work. On CM you can still move around if you have at least 1 leg. Perhaps look into how gravity code works and make it so that you can move around if you have at least 1 leg and you're attached to something.

I'm a big fan of these proposals. Slowing down combat (even just in this slight way, by making it so you can't literally win instantly) will positively contribute to roleplay (by giving players on both sides more opportunities to... do whatever people who aren't instakilled do) and to gameplay (since the excitement lasts longer when the fights last longer).

What do you mean, exactly? Taking hand thresholds as an example: You can instantly cut off someone's unarmored hand with a chainsword or e-sword simply because the damage is equivalent to/exceeds the amount of damage necessary to destroy the limb. Are you saying an energy sword should have to take one hit more after a limb breaks in order for it to sever?

Because I think that would be fine, balance-wise. I do think there needs to be higher effort investment to kill someone so that instantly being taken out of the round is not possible.

I prefer if you'd just be able to crawl even without legs instead. It'd be really weird to see someone hobble around on one leg firing off a shotgun.

Perhaps make it so only certain weapons can instantly delimb? Like an energy sword may take a hit or two, but if you're using something like an energy glave with force gloves, it shouldn't have such a restriction.

Not that Burger cares, nor does my one voice carry enough weight to stop this dumpster fire before it starts, but this is a huge -1 from me.

This is worded to suggest this will help 'fix' the security nerf, which largely isn't true because most of these antags are straight up immune to flashes and therefore not effected by the nerf.

And the fact is, no matter how vocal certain people get about it, combat isn't the antagonist to 'hrp'. Combat is not bad, or something to be programmed out. Antagonists having the tools to disable, or yes even kill quickly is par for the course. This is largely an unnecessary change. And yet my money is on this being forced through as a PR regardless

They're not saying combat is bad, they're saying it's not fun being instantly beheaded or headgibbed by some unga bunga with an esword and force gloves or being instantly fucked because your leg is blown off by a pistol.
