DeadLantern Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 (edited) BYOND key: Dead Lantern Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Late 2016 is my first join, but I became active late 2017 Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to play various command positions. Why did you come to Aurora?: To roleplay Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I have. I think I have been server banned only once, and that was a month ago or so. It was due to powergaming, and it was serious enough to garner a 3 day ban. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is playing a character that is separate to your own real person. People roleplay to have fun experiencing situations that you won't find in large abundance in a normal life. Like all video hames, it is for fun. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: For mechanic-heavy roles such as CE, CMO, etc, they are to have a sort of 'mentor' in game. They teach their craft to people who are not as experienced. As well as this, a Head of Staff in game represents the department itself. The CE is expected to handle AI malfunctions, as a sort of engineering representative. A CMO would perform do all the things medical doctors, surgeons, chemists, etc. They are a microcosm of the department in game. With the RP command roles, it is simply to RP. The only difference is that whitelisted roles usually have much more influence over the round with their RP. A HoP protesting evil sec will go a lot farther than a mere bartender. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players should show how one is supposed to play the game: Maintain atmosphere, and provide roleplay opportunities to other characters via their own. They should be the ones creating interesting drama and conversations, and certainly not the one to act power-gamey or break immersion in the world and in the character. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Tau Ceti is currently a migration haven for all the outcasts in the universe. The Zo'ra brood, running from a dying planet, inhabits Tau Ceti. Aut'akh heretics, running from certain doom, inhabits Tau Ceti. Dominian prisoners, Sol Refugees, Eridani dregs, etc etc. Biesel is a conglomeration of various cultures, rather than just one culture. I'll choose my new character, Yaros Taj'Akrhan, for the character part of this question. Tau Ceti, for many alien nations, represents a link to humanity and valuable allies. As a result, the PRA would want to bolster PRA opinion rating in Tau Ceti and various other Human/Skrell places to possibly gain friends in high places. A war veteran would be a perfect mouth of the PRA, and thus, Yaros was sent to Tau Ceti to be a consular officer. Their entire career is modeled /because/ of Tau Ceti, and how important it is for Aliens to make their impression on Humanity and other races. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Immediately, Consular Officer. Besides that, probably all of them besides RD/CE. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Yaros Taj'Akrhan, Consular Officer How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Average Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Understood Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes Edited December 21, 2019 by ReadThisNamePlz
Bear Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Most of my interactions with DeadLantern have been with their character Rharza. A solid roleplayer who I think could easily handle the command staff role. I'm very interested to see what they have to bring to the table as consular officer. They have my +1

This ban was the reason why you lost your whitelist due to it being standard to strip a player's command whitelist when they receive a full ban from the server. The ban reason itself makes me skeptical as well due to the specific instance that it occurred. I can't share the exact details in the punishment unless @DeadLantern agrees. How have you improved since a month ago? Will something like this happen ever again? Don't let my questions deter any feedback or swindle opinions. It is a matter of curiosity on my part.

You can talk about it, it's fine. The ban in question relates more to my roleplay as a Diona rather than my roleplay in general. I've since gotten a better understanding of Diona biology and their ties to the in game mechanics. That is how I improved. However, before and after the incident, I would never do it with a non-Diona character. I just learned that it is still not okay for a diona to do that. It is unlikely to happen again, since I learned from the incident.
Juani2400 Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Hello. I will be handling this application. Before we move into the phase of considering a trial, I'd like to gather a bit more feedback from the community, specially since you already had the whitelist before the ban. People who has interacted with your command characters in the past.
DeadLantern Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 If staff are wondering why I haven't been playing or advertising, it is because that I've become increasingly ill, starting last week.
DeadLantern Posted December 21, 2019 Author Posted December 21, 2019 I choose to rescind this app. I don't know if I should just delete it or let it be denied. So I'll leave it here.
Lolziam Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Before I go ahead and post my verdict, I have to correct you on something, something. On 09/12/2019 at 02:39, DeadLantern said: The CE is expected to handle AI malfunctions, as a sort of engineering representative. The only difference is that whitelisted roles usually have much more influence over the round with their RP. A HoP protesting evil sec will go a lot farther than a mere bartender. Wrong. Roleplay is part of every role on station. Be it a command role or playing Janitor. Being a HoP or a Captain does not mean your only purpose is to "roleplay". Captains and the HoP play a vital role into furthering the roleplay of a round through either direct interaction or mini events (The captain having all departments work together for a joint project, Research Director having an expedition going). Their influence is not limited to calling out antagonists, so a HoP's purpose is not to call out "bad sec" and focus the entire station on a person. That's basically an alternative, indirect way of valid-hunting or simply a bad way to deal with an antagonist situation. Furthermore, not only the CE can be tasked to resolve a malfunctioning A.I situation. A Scientist can do so if given all the help he needs. A normal station engineer as well. While I agree that command staff personnel are often mentors (and they should be), it all depends on the situation or the way a certain player decides to roleplay his character. The Chief Engineer, Chief Medical Officer, the Head of Security, they are your boss. They often have to deal with certain situations and they might not be always available to be a mentor. But roleplay should exist at all times. On 09/12/2019 at 02:39, DeadLantern said: A CMO would perform do all the things medical doctors, surgeons, chemists, etc. They are a microcosm of the department in game. Wrong. They are not. A Chief Medical Officer is often an experienced Medical Doctor, a surgeon, or probably a former biochemist/pharmacist. While they are very experienced as a medical staff, we have to keep in mind that the human mind is often limited. You wouldn't be able to do all that by yourself. You might be able to work GTR (which is what you should focus on most). Might be able to peform surgery, but remember those two together already require a lot of time to learn and a lot of your memory. So chemistry as well? That's even more complicated So keeping in mind all of the above, you should always focus first on Roleplay. Always. Remember you are a command member , know your authority and do not abuse it. Do not be very sensible and take everything personally and as a threat. You want to be a very authoritarian command staff? You won't last long. It might not get you OOC problems, but it will get you backlash, your characters might not be liked IC and very possibly OOC. So after writing all this, I will still hope you will take all this information and use it accordingly. I will give you my support you will excell. I once was given hope and I promised to the same to others who need it. Don't give up. Keep the app up and who knows? You might just get your whitelist. Don't fail us. +1
