Cnaym Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 BYOND Key: CnaymCharacter Names: Most known currently: Akki Guwan (Officer / Cheff), Emilia Roth (GOOD Nurse), Kim (Librarian), Optikam Rin (Cargo Tech), Mahashik Ilasi (Engineer), Spike Barnes (Engineer)Species you are applying to play: DionaeWhat color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dionae colored, duhHave you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yus Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I enjoyed Auger my G2 miner a ton, it slowed down gameplay and was generally my first attempt at being a dionae "lite" since it's speech was similar to how dionae spoke at the time... which was a while ago, so not many may remember him anyway. When I started out there were no dionae around and Xelnagahunter and Yonni introduced me to this amazing species ICly. I remember giving enough of a tipp for Choir to buy a car (it was hilarious to hear that the dionae spend the credits on a car at the time) and I've been listening to Xelnagas dionae with almost every character I ever made, spending a couple of discussions about their nature with different characters and roles. I enjoy the deep and thoughtful conversations, that are lighthearted from the perspective of immortality. That can be summarized as the main reason why I want to try my hands at this species: To watch the whole world burn spectate mortality from an outsiders perspective and debate concepts like spirituality and the self with the other species. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The mechanics, obviously, but mostly the concepts. A human will be in it for themself, for another or for a group / faith. The dionae are always in it for the experience or the memory of the event. Be that the nymphs that make their first steps towards learning about a species, the bypedal gestalt finally finding their spot in society or on an even larger scale going so far as to consume entire stations. Character Name: Voices of Reason amidst the Ashes of War. Please provide a short backstory for this character The nymphs that make up this gestalt changed owner as many things do in a tavern run by clan Vihnmes. A bargain for their owner, they helped with the simple task of entertaining guests and were seen as pets by most visitors the the bar itself. Living of the scraps, the nymphs slowly learned more and more about the civilisation they found themselves in. After a not so peaceful trade dispute was settled via bloodshed the nymphs retreated to the relative safety of the bar counter and emerged as a cyclops a couple hours later. With this a new life began for the dionae. It learned the way of clan Vihnmes, surviving with a silver tongue instead of brute force it surely made for an interesting sight to weary travelers who engaged in long talks with it, until one day it was picked up by a traveling teacher from one of the IAC schools build in a nearby settlement and started learning more about the universe at large. Their goal became to experience it all, if not through it's own senses than through the stories left behind by those who did experience it and when the teacher left the planetside to return to tau ceti the dionae joined him to experience and learn even more. What it figured out quickly were two things: Every species fights and all of them mourn the dead. The dionae, growing up within a clan of merchants and diplomats knew that all it takes to bring about change is patience, time and an idea that will last. Granted the idea was not yet graspable for the dionae, nor was there a big chance to figure out a system in which fighting would become redundant, but what else does a young dionae have to offer the universe if not time and patience. It took a long time to find a job that would fit it's desires and skills, but finally signed up with NanoTrassen as a helper in a local library. Staying out of trouble, talking to guests and remembering the vast information that a library holds was only natural to it and when a chance to move upward and take care of it's own library aboard the NSS Aurora displayed itself the dionae took it almost instantly. What do you like about this character? Been pushing this app by just a couple of days for a long time, because I did not come up with a concept that I'd enjoy. I had a librarian before that was well received (Kim) but who as a robot lacked the "oxford manners", which is roughly the concept of playing with and entertaining ideas. I'd love to entertain and RP this in character more and think that the platform of dionae is perfect for that. Highly intelligent, yet not trained or specialized... almost drifting through life on the basis of raw knowledge that may never be applied but nonetheless has to be kept, treasured and discussed is what makes this a great character for me.How would you rate your role-playing ability? 9/10 Am immersed, am consistent, am robust. Why do I specify robust as part of the RP? Because knowledge of the games mechanics brings a peace of mind that let's you focus on the real important part of the game: Roleplay. Notes: Hit me with questions, don't be scared to give negative feedback. We are here to have fun and improve. I hope I have displayed this goal ICly and OOCly in my time on the server.
Leudoberct Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 I think it's pretty interesting to see a Diona with experience with Unathi, not something I've seen before. I've known Cnaym to be a competent roleplayer and I've watched them start on Aurora and get to know the community and bring more RP to it. +1
Soultheif96 Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 I am also interested in Unathi influenced Dionae and the background seals the deal for me. Every interaction with them has been stellar, so this receives my support. My concern is the name not fitting in with current name system (Too many characters). +1
TrickingTrapster Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Not an expert on Dionae, so I can't say whether the unathi thing is unique or not, but I can at least vouch for the player themselves being honest about it all, and I believe they deserve this. +1.
Dark1Star Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 +1 I've known Cnaym ever since I've started playing Aurora, first with my Robotcist John Normandy, becoming great friends with their (now) Engineer, Spike Barnes. Tag team duo in Robotics. I play officer a lot now and their security officer Akki is a really good character too. I can vouch for their RP, they are great at what they do.
Xelnagahunter Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 As someone called out by name here I felt I should weigh in. Cnaym has been interested in my Dionae characters since I rejoined the server several months ago. They have asked a lot of questions both ICly and OOCly and I've pointed them to a lot of various things on the wiki even before the recent additions of Diona growing on inhabited worlds. Their RP is solid and I think they have a grasp on how nuanced and varied the race can be. I love the name, it implies knowledge. It's a strong indicator of the pure information this gestalt has poured into itself and digested for it's own use, along with a subtle hint as to the gestalt's background. (It's probably too long for the name bar though.) With the trust I have that Cnaym knows their stuff about the Dionae lore and with my absolute confidence in their RPing skill. I give this a massive +1.Get 'em tiger.
Cnaym Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 Hmm. I am not sure yet how to shorten the name. Might go with a version of Voices amidst Ashes and put the full one in the records (specify that it was shortened when moving to tau ceti due to citizenship rules or just outright saying that the NT IDs do not support the full name), but I'm open to suggestions here, maybe this has been handled in one way or another before @Yonnimer?
Fortelian Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 (edited) I like the app overall. And by the looks of the reviews, people really think you can handle it, so I do too. The backstory was interesting and fit in. And the shortened name you proposed seems really good. +1 "We hope... to see you there...' - Kept as One. Edited December 10, 2019 by Fortelian

My old chaplain Dionae used to be Leaves Rustling in the Endless Void. In game I was only Rustling in the Void and had the full name in my records. I went by Rustle/Rus to most people. I justified it as NT shortening it due to ID space restrictions.
Yonnimer Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Hello! After some thought, we'll be going ahead and accepting your app. In most cases @Cnaym when a name is too long to fit in the setup menu, it is best to have it shortend for the sake of ID reading and in records/when you talk icly about your name to use the full, original name. Personally I would suggest using Voices of Reason as the name, but, it is your choice. If you're also interested, there is a dionae discord which can be found, here: https://discord.gg/CR6H3h
