Removes the 'APC/machine blows up and there's an impassable hole to the bottom-most z-level' memes. The problem is that they don't look good, and really they're a bit balanced because if an AI detonates an APC, it cuts off power.

It's more that the gameplay of 'fall through hole, drift in cooling z-level until you inevitably hit the pipes and break back in' is one of the worst things to consistently deal with on Malf rounds (or any round where bombs are excessively used). As it were, explosions without the cancer-holes would still cut the power.

I agree with you completely but I think that would be an issue for another thread in regards to how explosives work and how it interacts with z-levels.
Carver Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 I mostly bring it up as reinforced flooring would be a mapping-related band-aid fix, and this is the most appropriate thread to suggest it.

TehFlaminTaco Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 The AI core SMES should not power the entire level, but should only power the AI core room itself, in my opiniion.
Carver Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Having it power the entire level opens up a very, very interesting form of sabotage against the AI on the other hand. Something that a traitor/malf AI could circumvent by having a stationbound rewire if they personally saw it as a risk.
Happy_Fox Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Any chance of beefing up the rear part of the upload? Otherwise its a weak spot with only one turret and two walls before you're technically into the rear of the core.
sonicgotnuked Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 The rock surrounding the upload and multiple layers of walls are what helps the core. Having a back door is just inviting everyone to just break in. All you need is a baseball bat and welder, destroy one turret, and you can cut the AIs power.
Carver Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Consider the following; It's malf, the AI is about to go loud: What should the AI do beforehand? A) Fortify it's weak points using it's stationbounds, encouraging teamwork amongst the malfunctioning synthetics and giving it a reason to take it's time? B) Just fukken go at it. Then realize that it didn't prepare for the engagement, preparation being advisable and near-required by every other role in the game before combat, and suffer as a result. The issue isn't the back of the core being weak, in fact; I think it's perfect because it opens up the AI to be attacked/stolen by antagonists, whilst giving a reason for antagonist and subverted AIs to use the resources available to them to fortify and prepare. It encourages forethought and preparation, punishing those who disregard either.
