AmoryBlaine Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 The jetpacks we have are for maneuvering EVA. It doesn't make sense for them to be working inside the station. If anything they'd just tip your over, or push you forward a bit. Kinda like hardsuit leg jumping.
sonicgotnuked Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 I don't see how this would make much sense when it's gravity that determines this, not air. Plus the jetpack is very vital to paramedics findings miners in a timely fashion.

It doesn't make sense that you can hover with an air-based jetpack inside the station, without it constantly giving off propulsion, which- given the tank size, would probably drain it in a matter of minutes, or less. EVA, you only use up air when you move, because it's giving out a burst of air in whatever direction, because you are freely floating. Inside, you're being pulled down. So you can't really just save up air when you're using it inside, because unlike being EVA, you're needing to use air constantly to remain floating.
Xelnagahunter Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Isn't there gravity on the asteroid because of the station's grav gen? MEaning in order to hover while outside the same loss of fuel would happen as inside. If you wanna do this, make my miner not fall down a hole anymore and just float across it.

That or just change out air-based packs for 'energy' based packs with a flat rate of drain when turned on.
Carver Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Another solution for miners, one of the days of old: Magboots let you walk over holes so long as you're along a wall. Station walls are metal, a majority of windows have metal, the asteroid is full of minerals. ez.
Happy_Fox Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 How about a gravity jetpack with a cell charge for a built in anti-gravity generator for countering the station's gravity and an on-board gas supply for maneuvering? Anti-gravity generator would in essence be the Z-level stabilization and the on board fuel supply would be for moving around or changing Z-level.
Aphelion Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 (edited) The jetpacks in game are monofuel jetpacks. They use pressurized gas to push people. I think we should have both monofuel jetpacks, and plasma jetpacks. Plasma jetpacks would generate actual thrust through making an intense amount of ions, using a large amount of power. Monofuel jetpacks would work with pressurized gas and only function at low pressure/ gravity. Honestly what makes less sense is that the hardsuit component converters turn gas based jetpacks into an ion/electricity/hover based jetpack. Making the jetpack consume power instead of air to use it. Edited January 7, 2020 by Aphelion
