Player Byond Key/Character name: SonicGotNuked/Burt Duncan
Staff involved: BoryaTheSlayer
Reason for complaint: I'm gonna skip a lot because I was an immobile worm the entire round. Basically, a round of bughunt. Because a single borer host apparently managed to fuck up most of Security, the Captain saw it fit to call the nuke. However, nuke authorization was not given at the time that the Captain proceeded to recall the shuttle halfway through and then nuke the transfer shuttle anyway. This was not a good ending to a round, and especially not a good use of recalling the shuttle. They ended up getting nuked themselves, even.
Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes, Borya said make a complaint.

Hi I was the RD that round who was part of the decision making after borers started spewing out like a halo flood carrier type. That information wasn't really available or processed. MY RD was going to suggest they had the shuttle shot down as it left. The Captain decided to make sure there was no chance they escaped. The RP was there. They did not have this information when the shuttle was called. It was a very hectic round.

The RP was there for you, but not the rest of the crew. For everybody else, we lined up, went to escape, and suddenly fucking Delta.

There was almost no crew involvement that I saw. It was shoddily done and the captain's overall play, to crew, felt limited to unclear announcements that were all over the place. We were not involved with or engaged with the decision to "well, we're nuking everyone, good luck have fun".

Alright, so first of all, I'm sorry if I played somewhat poorly as captain. I admit, I tunnel focused my attention to command and somewhat ignored everyone screaming for me as it is pretty much impossible to divert my attention to multiple things when there is only 1 of me.

1. We pieced together what the slugs can do, how powerful these psionics are, with general craziness running around with multiple people being infected.

2. I was in constant communication with CC, but I think most the CCIA was actively involved. My point is, I kept CCIA informed.

3. The borers were multiplying like crazy and infesting through the station vents. There was a ton and medical couldn't possibly scan every single person to check for one.

4. The RD went up to my office to argue that these things should never board the Odin.

5. I ICly got in a fight with a borer. Saw the abilities. Witnessed it. Saw how dangerous they were with only one.

6. I ahelped if I could blow the nuke after I called the shuttle, told to ask CCIA, so I recalled it to ask CCIA. Recalling an emergancy shuttle isn't against the rules and I had the IC reason to do so. If I recalled a crew transfer, then there would of been an issue.

7. We ICly learned they were a hive mind. That means they could easily focus their attention. Including how powerful just one was, we ICly knew they are placing the entire system at risk with a massive biological hazard that gave people powers just to force them to use it.

8. The definition of the nuke is to destroy things that are massive threats to the galaxy, Tau Ceti, or the company. It is designed as a final resort to end something that must be contained with the station itself.

In regards, I called the shuttle. I recalled it with new information and regardless of the crew transfer, I would've asked for the nuke, which has to be approved by both administration and CCIA to even get the code faxed to the office.

Nuking the station made zero sense considering it was a transfer shuttle. I don't think it was keeping with character sanity to do that, to blow up an entire research station because of borers. The checkpoint sec could handle that.

Mechanically, borers spew out, disarm you, heal their own wounds at the touch, and other multiple things that makes it rather futile to fight against. I don't see how wanting to contain something with nuclear hellfire and it was something my character didn't take lightly.

I really don't see what rule I actually broke other then somewhat lacking communication. Looking back on it, I admit there is some things that I could've done better. That's the nature of hectic rounds sometimes and I was trying to act on the best interests of everyone. I went through the process to set the nuke with the IC information provided and it's something that goes through both CCIA and administration to check my judgement to get the code faxed.

@sonicgotnuked, what situation were you in when you made the decision to call the nuke? Was it possible to involve the crew at that time, and if not, why?

Honestly, maybe a little, but it was something I sort of figured, I can't tell the crew about the nuke until it's actively going off. I was interacting with the crew when the nuke was going off. I didn't tell any of them before the code. Right when I got the code, I slipped it into the nuke, then started telling everyone.

Okay, so, here's what I've found.

Destroying the station while a transfer shuttle is coming is not necessarily terrible. Considering the prior events I think it's alright to say that it was a pretty 'meh' choice, bordering on okay.

However the nuke was extremely rushed. From what I can see it came with almost no warning and the RP after it boiled down to a standard countdown and 'oh god'. I can't really see the case for urgency here, and I'm really not a fan of nukes being rushed like that unless you literally can't do anything else. Considering the events going on at this time I will trust the call of the admins that gave you the nuke.

In short: please don't try to rush nukes unless you have to. In this case, it's not egregious, but it was definitely lacking a bit of warning and effect, if that makes sense. A note will be placed on Sonic about this scenario.

I will be locking this in 24 hours.
