BurgerBB Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Honestly I'm kind of tired that this feature exists. I'm fine with the limited glove selection but this honestly the feet shit is just unrealistic, annoying, snowflake, and lacks consistency with nearly everything else. In the lore screenshots, their feet are digitigrade yet in game they're clearly plantigrade as the original design/sprites were stolen from elsewhere and fit with the shoe sprites that currently exist because this is sane. For some reason we're having our cake and eating it too by not having custom foot and shoe sprites yet we're pretending that it's digitigrade. I'm not asking for custom foot sprites, I'm just asking just to scrap the entire idea because it's just really stupid. I like bet you the only reason why tajara and unathi have digitigrade feet sprites is because any time someone tests out the sprites for digitigrade feet, they go "this is too furry" and scrap the idea all together. I mean, it has happened at least once because a year ago I tried experimenting with it and had the exact same thought. But I digress. For some reason every beast race in fanfiction and non-professional universe MUST have digitigrade feet because I guess we're trying to appease furries, even if it means ignoring realism. If unathi and tajara had the feet they have depicted in the lore screenshots, they would have exceptional amount of trouble carrying any sort of weight and would suffer severe foot injury if they carried anything heavy. In exchange, they'd have exceptionally insane movement speed and wouldn't run out of stamina doing so. It's also silly that anyone regardless of height, weight, body shape, or shoe size can wear anything they want, but for some reason we have to have a distinction of furry race feet. So please. Just make it so that tajara and unathi have digitigrade feet. Literally every other server I've played on, including citadel, isn't snowflake enough to have this feature.
Alberyk Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I am fairly sure that they all have clawed feet, which would also not really fit with regular human shoes. But, I still think that removing this would be bad, because would remove another difference between species.

Literally all they would have to do is use a Dr. SchollsⓇ Claw InsertⓇ and a shoe size that's an inch larger. Again, it doesn't make sense than anyone can wear any shoe they find regardless of their foot size because that would be dumb. It's the same thing here. And beast races unable to wear shoes is a dumb distinction to have. There was a reason why Bethesda removed that for the elder scrolls series after Morrowind.

Counter-argument, what if we simply took this and made it so anyone can't comfortably wear anything? Adding height and build into character creation or the like. Have it if you wear something that doesn't fit (i.e. stolen clothing), it shows as: Lizard McLizardman is wearing some jackboots. They don't appear comfortably designed for his species' feet. Redhair McMidget is wearing a security jumpsuit. It looks absurdly large for her height. Lard McDonutEater is wearing a security jumpsuit. It looks uncomfortably small for his build.

I mean you'd think it be great but it would be exceptionally annoying and honestly near the level of having to manually breathe and blink for players.

Assume the following: Clothing you spawn in/with is fitted for you and can comfortably be worn by someone within a few inches height/width. Certain clothing (Coats, armour, voidsuits, hardsuits, firesuits) have a much wider range of 'comfortable fit' (With exceptions for things like Skrellian voidsuits). Clothing that hasn't been worn has an initial, 'adjustable fit' that locks in on the first wearer. This predominantly serves as a nerf for disguising as someone of an entirely different height and build, and to discourage people who play ridiculously short/tall/fat characters within their species. It doesn't actually prevent you from wearing said clothing, and moreso serves to make you look ridiculous for wearing things not fitted very well to you. Edited January 16, 2020 by Carver
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 They have claws and bit feet. They can only wear open toed shoes. I am not persuaded by the arguments presented.
FreshRefreshments Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 I believe the reason both Tajarans and Unathi have digitigrade feet biologically is to balance out their tail. I really do not think this is that big of a deal.
GreenBoi Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Wiki says Unathi have plantigrade apparently....

Regardless I still think that we shouldn't have these restrictions. It's silly that given how unathi don't like the cold, there isn't a market for unathi shoes that cover their entire foot. Extremities are usually the first to feel the cold and when it does, it's discomforting or painful, and even sometimes dangerous.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 (edited) They will need special close-toed shoes. No human shoe on station can reasonably fit a foot thats got talons that will slice the shoe apart when you take it on and off. It would need a design more niche than diabetic's shoes. Our regular shoes would not insulate against the cold. You still need special shoes for that. Edited January 20, 2020 by Marlon Phoenix

A good way to do this is to do what you guys did with insulated gloves and just make shoes for unathi that are like human equivalents but have modifications you can't really show in an 8x8 pixel.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Do you want close toed unathi shoes or for unathi to wear regular shoes available in lockers?
Alberyk Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 The best solution would just add their own shoes, instead of just removing the restriction. I don't really want to lift this restriction for tajara, so I am voting for dismissal.

I would like for unathi to be able to wear any type of shoe. The best option for this would to be just make it so that roundstart shoes that unathi spawn with are designed around unathi. You could do the same thing with glove loadout options too instead of having 2 different glove categories for beast races.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 No, i dont want to see that. As the unathi maintainer i will -1 this.
Arrow768 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Support the vote for dismissal for the reasons stated above
