BYOND key:thatnewguy1

Character names:

Jaxon Williams(engineer(retired))

Marquis Alkins(security officer)

Riley Williams(engineer)

Dexter Smith(engineer)

Taylor Sprouse(roboticist)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?:

A little less then a year I’d say.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:

Honestly, I think it would be a fun experience. Trying to be the conductor of the orchestra and keeping everything flowing more then just doing my regular expected job.

Why did you come to Aurora?:

I was suffering a burnout from another server and was checking the wiki’s of other servers. The cool looking wrestling system got me interested and the even cooler integrated circuity stuff kept me hooked.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?:

I have yeah.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?

None that come to mind.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Making a persona and developing it into something better, my very first character I played for around 8 months before I even put any records or flavortext in for them and once I started it was actually kinda fun making up a character with a unique religion, views, thoughts and feelings and more. Too me it’s the trial and error of developing a character until you’re satisfied and make another.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

First and foremost you are meant to be an ingame mentor and be able to effectively teach new and sometimes old players about the station. You’re also meant to proficiently delegate duties to you’re staff. CE, the role I’m going for also has the special duty of allowing and overseeing station improvements which gives more rp and honestly just more fun to you’re crew.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

As a head of staff, you’re meant to keep the quality and atmosphere of the server alive with RP scenarios, that being sending out an away team, performing multi department inclusive events or simply doing training exercise’s. You're also given the duty of keeping you're department in check and provide ic punishments if need be like suspensions.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?:

Right now Tau Ceti is a small but incredibly industrious system with factories, stores, markets all over. But all this wealth is attracting folk from all corners of the galaxy to profit off this wealth. It’s a melting pot of different cultures, peoples, ideologies and economic statuses, but all this internal pressure has led to a few different political parties all trying to get control with nanotrason basically puppeting the state by financing almost every level of government This internal pressure is further fanned by the strong resent of the Sol Alliance, this hate goes both ways and foreign influence and a strong fear of another Solar invasion haunts its citizens still.

The promise of stable work and good pay has gripped the greedy Williams tightly and pulled her out of her Coalition home into the Tau Ceti system. A smooth and easy transfer into the work force did not happen however as in her very first shift a crew of Skrell special forces boarded the station and began firing upon coworkers, before taking complete control over the station and its future. She was completely powerless, nothing she could do to stop them, save the station, or even just save herself from the danger. Though she came out of the situation unscathed physically, her mind is still recovering from the shock of losing control of her own life and safety. Leading to a horrible, haunting fear of another attack by the Federation, this time not leavening any survivors. Too avoid any loss of work hours or expensive therapy she has withheld this information from coworkers and medical professionals, as it festers and continues to haunt her days aboard the station.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

Chief Engineer.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Riley Williams, Chief engineer.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

6/10.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

Yep, misbehave and you’ll lose you’re privileges.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

Yep.

Jaxon Williams is an Engineering legend. This is the only person I’ve ever seen since I started to play SS13 choose to learn TCOMMs willingly. Jaxon filled a niche in engineering and the roleplay seen by his characters is 10/10. This is a command application I’ve been waiting for for well over a month and I really hope he’s given a trial.

I have mostly interacted with Jaxon, some with Dexter and now with Riley.

This should get a fat -1 because I really liked Jaxon Williams - and my Character got along with them pretty neatly too.

However, since thatnewguy1 is actually a real good Rper and a capable engineer in general I cant help but support their decision.

Their knowledge in Engineering is extensive, and as someone has stated they actually gained a fair bit of Telecomm knowledge which is a rare and welcome skill.

The Character they apply with is a no-validhunting, clever Engineer. They would suit the role as far as I have seen (even if I would've prefered Jaxon ? so I dont see why thatnewguy1 should not get the chance!

I really liked playing with Jaxon and dragging him around into all sort of shit while using him as a shield because my CE refuse to handle any gun.

He was always a reliable engineer and I know that Thatnewguy1 is a good role-player sticking in a strict way to the frame he gave his character. (I still hate you for "killing" Jaxon) I'm sure he will be able to play a good command member and will be able to be a decent CE.

Also, I have less time to play these days, so we need someone else to steal Roadman' slot.

I have only interacted with Riley Williams and Smith, but mainly Smith. As far as departmental knowledge goes, they're an experienced engineer and the characters they play just have a lot of "character" that works with the setting and the job they choose to do. CE is definitely something they'd be able to do justice. Have not interacted much OOCly, but they seem well enough to me.

I've mainly just played with jaxon ICly. I've had good interactions with him. You play an interesting character with a lot of personality who dives into a lot of the more obscure parts of engineering and generally know what you're doing, and do a good job of keeping your character's knowledge reasonably balanced. I can't make judgments on your new characters, since I haven't really been around to see them other than a little of Dexter, who was a bit too quiet for my tastes at the time. I think you'd make a good CE player on Riley, from what I've heard of the character.

Jaxon was also were engineer of the year, so I assume you've gotten some good reputation floating around too. ?

Hello.

First of all, sorry for the delay, since I've been unable to work on this earlier.

Getting to the point, I have no issues with what I know about your RP, but I do have certain issues in regards to your application, and thus I would like you to ammend them before continuing:

  • Format. The format is a bit fucked up, specially in the initial part of the application. No biggie, but given that we are going for a set of corrections, I'd prefer if you repaired it.
  • Grammar and capitalization. This one is particularly important since you are going for a Command position. The ability of the player to type correctly and to capitalize letters as required is pretty important, in my opinion. No one likes a head of staff who can't type correctly, they simply don't inspire trust or seem rather new. Consider that all we see from a player in-game is the text they write, so I think it is an important point to take care of. I don't know if you are a native speaker or not, but I'd rather have you work a bit on this aspect and ensure you can transmit IG what a whitelisted player is supposed to. Just fix your application and make the effort to maintain the level if your trial is given.
  • Answers. All the answers are pretty okay and you answer what you're expected to. However, I would like you to clarify a bit on "Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?" question. The second paragraph is a bit confusing, and I don't know how it gets to affect the character entirely. Try rewording it a bit to see if you can project your initial idea a bit better.

I'm available in Discord for any specific questions you may have about what I asked here. Please post on this thread once the editing has been conducted.

Again, sorry for the time this took. I will get back to you soon.

Cheers.

I'm content with the new answer, and the grammar and format have improved significantly. I'll be granting you a trial that will start tomorrow 18/FEB/2020 and will finish on the 25/FEB/2020, inclusive.

Please remember that you'll need to continue to advertise your application (preferably after each round of Command played) so the people who have interacted with you can leave feedback. If not enough satisfactory feedback is gathered, there's a risk of the application being denied at the end of the trial. Also, please, try to maintain the effort toward grammar correctness. No point in fixing it in the app if no result is seen in-game, which is where it really matters.

Good luck!

One of my favorites to see in engineering. They know how to handle their department and have survived the initial crash of being in command with some really hard rounds for all command members. You did a better job than most and stayed humble throughout it. Enjoyed working under them as engineer, with them as fellow command and against them as antag. You did great with your trial so far and have my full support.

As an update... I finally had an opportunity to see you playing Riley, as a CE.

I think you did fairly well. You definitely did a good job of a maintaining a humane character personality, helping story move along, and keeping the department coherent. The rest of any meaningful feedback is probably in my last post, which noted that I hadn't had an opportunity to see your newer character.

Hello.

First of all, apologies for the slight delay in handling this. I have been reviewing the rounds you've been playing, and it looks like the feedback just stops after a certain date, but you've kept playing the character and the role after that time. Not only that, but you have also played the Chief Engineer role with a different character than the one in the application. Is there any reason for that happening? You are expected to play a consistent Command character through the trial, in order to aid the feedback gathering process.

I have no particular issues with the feedback given; it is mostly positive, but since it's a bit vague, I'd have loved to see a bit more of it. I'm considering extending this trial for a bit longer to see if you can gather a bit more of feedback. Would this be convenient for you?

Cheers!

Yeah I'd be fine an extension if you're cool with that. Ill try to advertise my app more. And for the Other Character thing after the APP trial period had ended I figured I had failed due to lack of feedback so I tried another character to have a bit of fun before the trial was revoked. Sorry I wont do it again.

As far as their CE play goes, they have been doing quite alright from my observations. Generally trying to get the team involved, actively teaching apprentices and doing what they need to do as a member of command. You never really notice just how much a good member of command/engineering can do to avoid or fix various situations. Telecomms incidents that would make most in a round cryo, are solved by them. Knowledge is good. Roleplay is fine.

They fit right in.
