WickedCyb's Applies for Tajara

BYOND Key: WickedCybs

Character Names: Picture

Species you are applying to play: Tajara

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: White

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I had a really good time on the PRA ship away site as a rank and file M’sai. Just in two rounds, got to explore some of the interesting dynamics between the PRA and NKA due to a visit from the Aurora. Bonded with fellow party members. Considered how shitty things were. Punked on Zhan. Got traumatized. I have already read the various backgrounds a few times now, but that is what sold me on the species in the end. Considering how fun it was just on that away site with a few people, I figure the station will provide a lot of opportunity.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

It’s really the cultural differences that set them apart in my eyes, especially since as a whole, they tend to be more conservative and traditionalist. The first and second revolutions are still very recent and fresh on the minds of the people. You’d probably be hard-pressed to find someone not affected in some way. Even in Tau Ceti space, escaping the history and ones past is difficult. Lines are drawn. There are some things that will just stick with people for a long time and what is happening now will not be forgotten anytime soon in the future.

Character Name: Almasa Za’ra

Almasa Za’ra was a M’sai born in the year 2438 during the interwar period. Theirs was a military family. Both her parents took part in the first revolution and survived, their allegiances firmly with the Hadii dynasty throughout the conflict. Some form of military service was generally the norm for the family line, though there were hopes among the family during this period between wars that their children would not need to fight and could instead pursue other ends. Her father transitioned from soldier to police officer, and her mother, soldier to courier. For a while, things were going rather well and the children enjoyed the benefits of this new republic.

Za’ra always thought she’d end up a courier like her mother. That was her main aim really, following in their footsteps. The family wasn’t well-off, but they weren’t in any bad position either. As the years ticked down though, things started to degrade. At the age of twelve, the surviving monarchists showed their face to the rest of Adhomai. At thirteen, president Hadii was assassinated and a coup was launched! Her parents began to rarely come home now, both re-enlisting and trusting the eldest of the family to take care of the rest. As for Za’ra, she wanted to help keep the ideals of the PRA alive. They all did. When she came of age at 15, her path was quite clear. A courier they would be, still. One in service to the Grand People’s Army.

Home became increasingly empty. Every member of the family was doing what they could for their republic. War is never kind though, of course. Mother was never heard from again, “missing in action” they said. Father was too wounded after a skirmish, he had to stay home then. Brother was killed in an offensive. Their numbers were dwindling, duty and taking care of the rest was the only thing left to do, really. Then the armistice happened. Peace at last? Doubtful, but this was the best time to get everyones affairs in order. Taking care of mother would be draining, especially when it came to money. Za’ra would have to turn to NanoTrasen for the sake of the rest of the family to see what could be done to rectify this situation.

Finally, a contract was signed, arrangements were made, and Za’ra was shuttled off to Tau Ceti. The Aurora, that would be their new workplace. As befitting a courier, cargo would be the department they would now serve. They would need to spend a number of years there. Hopefully it was going to be worth it.

What do you like about this character?

They’re still at that point where they’re young, impressionable. Less so than others due to their experiences but still enough that the Aurora is probably going to inflict some changes on them. The PRA and the civil war is all they really know and they have a vested interest in continuing to push forward the agendas they came to learn and support. Should make for some interesting dynamics with others. I’ve sort’ve modelled them after the PRA ship character I played a few times now.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Just average. I’ve been having a lot of good interactions lately, so I’m growing more confident.

Notes: The secret’s of how to have an apostrophe in your name without it looking like @#$% is lost to me. So, might tweak things.

This is generally a good character and an application. But, like this application and many others, you choose to focus on the war. A lot on the war. The two revolutions are extremely important events for the Tajara people, but I would like to see more Tajara culture in this app rather than just war, as well as more in the character's personality. It is due to this that I ask you the following questions:

1. What religion do they subscribe to and why? How is this shown in the character?

2. What is her opinion on the PRA? Best of three evils? Most moral country? Remember that before the first revolution, the Hadii were staunch monarchists, and her family technically served the monarchy in the past. How does she view the NKA, considering that previous point?

3. What is her opinion on the War and the Armistice itself? Not who should have won, but of the qualities of the war. Was it worth it? Did it help the Tajara people? Does she feel her family died for a good cause?

4. What is her opinion on the separate castes? The PRA preaches a casteless society, but does she listen to that?

These questions have been asked for the purpose of discerning some traits of the character and how Tajara culture affects those traits of the character.

They pay lip service to S'rand'marr since that is what their parents subscribed to, though growing up under a heavy Republican influence meant religion was not really heavily pushed on them except by family. In reality I would say they are more atheistic, seeing the faiths as relics of monarchy. They would not be too devout ICly but will probably still scream out "SUNS!" when they inevitably fall into a hole out on the asteroid.

As for their opinion on the PRA. Best of three evils, really. The writing was on the wall when it came to the decline of the monarchy (at least, she thinks that) and the Hadii were wise enough to see it. The Republic also still allows them to serve the Hadii, in a way since they are the ones in power. The NKA are misguided monarchists who really should've stayed dead, though they are certainly better than the DPRA. There is also a certain beauty to the old structure where the M'sai had their clear niche but... that will be kept in the back of the mind so to speak.

Personal thoughts are that in the end, the war was justified and against enemies that would see the march of progress set back. The PRA is the best hope for peace and stability. The armistice is just really a moment to bide time and recover before another inevitable conflict and it has certainly helped those who would otherwise suffer. Her family sacrificed themselves for a good cause, though she wishes it did not have to come at the cost of their lives.

Contrary to that ideal, they believe the castes have their place. After all, doing what you are just good at is not a bad thing in her eyes, and M'sai are really the best at a few things. How can a Zhan even compare when it comes to her profession! She laughs at the idea of it. Of course, this opinion is kept to themselves mostly, and family. There are still traits from the family's time in service to the monarchy that arise, and their parents have reinforced them.

I'm particularly interested in your allusion to how this character personally believes that the divisions between the Tajaran sub-races are real and justified while still being a supporter of the PRA. It's a very unique take that I've yet to really see in a character! Other than that you seem like a perfectly capable RPer from the times I've witnessed Val Xiram in game and, as far as my knowledge of Tajara lore goes, this is a very cohesive app.

+1!
