Re-sync GST and Server Time

The server used to be hosted in Chicago, so at the time I implemented the GST which wasn't super critical but it seems intuitive that our in-game gst fits the server time.

I asked Skull but he "forgot" where his own server is hosted, like how he "forgot" my last six birthday party invitations.

My suggestion is its edited to sync back up to the hosting city and the change is waved off as a decision from the Alliance Temporal Authority who are a scientific body that oversees timezone coordination and accuracy.

Or just edited and ban anyone that references Chicago.

Was suggested a million times before. Synchronized server times mean certain people only play at certain times of the (in game) day.

This is unwanted because no one would want to work the same shift every day. While this is nothing huge it can have an impact on characters and players

Lol that would be super annoying i agree. This is not that though; GST lets you know that on Mars something literally happened 20mins ago even though its 3pm there ane 9:30am where you are in mendell. GST has local timezones beneath it.

Also skull waited to tell me until literally 4mins ago GST that the server isnt even hosted in Germany? Who has the truth???

AFAIK this is already the case.
However the current implementation uses UTC as the time base (as that makes it easier to match a ic time to a log time)

So all that would be needed is a wiki update.

This is in fact already the case yes. It is just the wiki that is ever so slightly out of date.

Update: GST was retconned. I was trying to find the wiki page wondering if I dreamed the entire thing and found this thread instead, Lol

Archive this?

Wanted to add since it's semi-related but the date on the wiki and the dates that display in game and on the relay are different. I think the wiki is behind by at least a month.

I think the wiki has some weird client-side thing going on that just makes it bound to fall behind like a bad watch.

Gst was just saying how timezones worked in the galaxy and why everyone shorthanded to using the server time when talking about things on other ends of space. Like "at 6pm in adhomai..." It didn't do anything about what time it was on the wiki.
