I like augments, you like augments, we all like augments. Inspired by the rather interesting discussion over in the suggestions subforum, there's some interest in giving other companies their own unique augments that fit their theme, whether purely fluff or providing some mechanical difference. This post will attempt to serve as a place to keep track of potential ideas that could be added to the game if they fit and someone's willing to implement them.

Making a suggestion without giving any idea is pointless. Neither all megacorporations have a focus on augmentation.

I have come.

Here with suggestions for Hephaestus:

Muscular Actuators
Artificial musculature that allows you to pick up crates and lockers as items that you carry in both hands. Usage has a chance to do minor burn damage. There's probably more you can do to define the technology for fluff.

Ore detector: 
An augment that acts as both the deep ore detector for placing drills and the pinging ore detector that most miners use, being able to be swapped between the two.

EPMC:

Eridani Eyes
Allow you to interact with consoles from a distance, and allows your eyes to be used as a camera. However they have a chance to make an advertising window pop up.

EPMC Tracheal Augment
A military grade version of the normal Eridani tracheal augment that filters out smog. This one works as a low-range gas mask to filter out pepper spray from the lungs. Eyes and face are not included.

Holo-Business card
An augment that allows you to display a holographic business card. Neat!

Golden Fist credentials
An augment that displays you as a member of one of the Golden Fist's companies: Ringspire, Eagle Corp, Phalanx Inc, N4NL Inc, or Index Security Solutions.

Was kind of thinking that too, albeit with a bit more focus on fluff over mechanics.

A basic piece of neuroware, this augment provides live visual feedback on possible ways to improve your presentation and interactions. Quality of results may vary.

Hephaestus Industries:

Atmosphere Scanner: A series of small sensors in the throat samples the surrounding atmosphere and provides the wearer with an accurate readout. (A built-in air analyzer)

 

Idris Incorporated:

Social Enhancher: A small implant that emits artificial pheromones upon being triggered, helping sway bystander(s) to your words. People with this augment installed may immediately recognize its use on them. (Plays like the Vampire's Presence ability, just...less powerful?. And if this gets released, it may also help with people metagaming that ability as it's no longer exclusive to the Vampire!)

 

Zavodskoi Interestellar:

"FreshRest" Implant: An implant that coaxes specific sections of the brain to increase the user's awareness, helping him remain awake and alert for long periods of time. (Similar to the emotional manipulator of Zeng-Hu. Purely a fluff-mechanic.)

Okay, so...this PR kind of solves most of the issues, at least for fluff augs.

With genetics done, there's little you can do in terms of what Zeng Hu can offer. Most of the augments fulfill that and give the company a face. Perhaps the only one that would need a lift up in terms of low players would be Hephaestus. Basically all of security is either Zavod or EPMC anyways, and Idris is always a popular choice. As many said it before on the other thread, there's no need to give the augments to everybody, just as there's no need for every company to have augments themselves. It just doesn't fit them.

I quite like all of these, flavourful without breaking anything.

That's what I was going for, something that'd be flavorful and useful but not broken.
