they'd just be nice to have. the item tab even specifies 'security/command', but as you can see here

even the quartermaster can have flashproof glasses, but not RD / CE / CMO. i think a nice change would be to add the missing command roles in. especially given that head roles get hand-held flashes.

Why not? They are command staff, and the Aurora is a hazardous place. They are also given hand-held flashes.

I mean, why do we expect command to be flashed anyway? No clue why sec would be doing it, nor why antags would feel the need.

 

Also a very easy source of free sunglasses to help reduce the 'flashbangs are OP!!!' complaints.

I don't see how the faces of Command Members are easy sources. That requires you to steal from Command, which is going to get you some heat. Maybe add them to lockers as well?

Cmo should be wearing HUDs. The other two idk... if i cant reliably flash them then i guess i will just shoot them. Nothings as quick and safe as a flash

Sorry, seems I misunderstood. Yes, I'd add them to lockers rather than via the loadout.

Flashes are incredibly unreliable and unsafe compared to their alternatives, though. Batons are good vs all but synths/dionae, while pepperspray is much of the same.

The only thing flashes particularly excel at is 'escalated force' against Vaurca. Every other time, they generally have superior alternatives that are just as readily available.

Honestly if there's the question of changing it, the sunglasses should be restricted to security and the HOS only. With the IC expectation that only security should be handling Flash's, why should anyone have eye protection for them? The only possible exception I could see to this being the Captain and maybe HoP.

I don't see a truly valid reason within lore or game mechanics that would warrant these to anyone with the exception of the Captain and all of Security. Beyond that there's no reason anyone would need them with any valid reasoning that I can think of.
