wowzewow Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Yeah, basically. Other servers have the curator role. Which is kind of weird we don't have something like this. For all the arcs and adventures the server's been on, we don't have much to show for it. They're just collecting dust in the codebase. Would be interesting to have a Silversun shirt in a display case or something, and then like, an Artillery shell from one of the Tajaran arcs. 1
White Void Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 That's honestly a pretty good idea, to show off major events altough mapping them will be a issue when it comes to space i don't think theres much room for it
Agatasa Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Mapping in everything would be impossible. A random selection of items/objects given to a player to curate and display in even more limited display cases would be more space efficient. It would also be both gameplay and an opportunity for character expression. It would also give a bit of a "wow rare roll!" moment if you got some obscure item from over two years ago, which would add a little moment that doesn't happen every round. 1
Girdio Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 (edited) I agree more with the idea of people given random items instead of people concrete lore items. Giving the curator the ability to get new and random items is more in line with other servers, and is better for roleplay ability for the role. A curator being able to play up certain random rolls could give reason for players to come to the library more often. I feel that giving just canon lore items (unless you create a big random pool of lore items, instead of static ones, which sounds like a headache) means that the curator would be appealing, probably only once when they first got introduced, and then by new characters (if they're designed to be totally new to the ship) almost primarily. It feels like it wouldn't beneficial for the role besides people OOCly getting to go "I was there for that event!" In other words, it seems like turning the library into a museum and just giving the curator static lore items, it's going to be hard for the curator to come up with their own spin for items constantly without it becoming boring, but with random items they can come up with whatever story they want for the items, while remaining lore friendly. KingOfThePing Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Just make sure to add prooper display stands with plaques on them you can write on what you see inside.
niennab Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Technically we already have a curator role, just not quite a way of showing it although I have seen a few adventurous players build loadouts around displaying objects of interest. However, I would be against losing the library in favor of it. If there's a way to get 1 or 2 display stands in there, that's fine. Or a another room anywhere else on the station becomes the museum. I also agree with Ping's suggestion. Maybe they aren't even real objects, but just holographic stills that depict either a historical figure, important CEO, item of interest or cultural item. All whatever the curator wants. 2
Roostercat Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I personally think having something to represent previous lore arcs would be great. It means they are still around and can be kinda nostalgic if its an old one you took part in. Maybe some kind of stand that can switch between projecting different items holographically could be nice.

I agree with that, loosing the library would be awful, i know that i'm with the minority of players that actually spend time reading the books but i really don't want to see it go, i even have a poem published on the library and so do many other players 1

Carver Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 Could just turn the weirdly secluded reference section into a display area.
ElizabethDame Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Librarian main here. Yeah, I know I'm disgusting. Anywho, I think that'd be great! Librarians lack a lot of things to do. I could see room made easily if you A : Condensed the shelves into one of each type, B : Removed the Reading Room for extra space, or C : Removed the shelves and just kept it to the one public computer which has access to all the books already, which already invalidates the meager selection of 3 books per shelf.
Gem Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 i'll look into this and what ElizabethDame suggested above.
