FreshRefreshments Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 BYOND Key: FreshRefreshments. Staff BYOND Key: Garnascus. Game ID: It was pre-round, I left shortly after. Reason for complaint: I was banned for posting Hogwarts Legacy spoilers. Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: I'd like to think I am pretty decent at keeping a clean enough record. I try, at least, to RP good enough. Sometimes i've fucked up. A couple notes, I believe one warning, but more or less generally I try to be better than I was. This is an insane reason to ban someone, permanently, out of nowhere. "Absolutely unacceptable." How petty, do you have to be. Someone, who I won't name in order to keep from any shit happening further, mentioned Hogwarts Legacy being done downloading. Given JK Rowling's reputation, the fact that she is getting royalties from this, the fact that before the game came out it was well known that the game is just Blood Libel with the Jewish stereotypes, the fact that the trans community has begged people not to play this shitty, antisemetic, racist, misogynist's game, I thought most people would be wise enough to realize playing it, let alone mentioning playing it, was just not something you do. I'd like to know which rule I broke that was so severe that I was to be instantly permabanned by the Head Admin. I don't consider it a dick move to spoiler a god awful game under a god awful IP. I don't know how you can enjoy a game like that, knowing how much people asked for you to just not buy it. Given Garnascus has given me a note for an incredibly dumb reason before, this seems par for the course. I would like to be let back onto the server after my, "absolutely unacceptable" behavior. Note: I was suggested by a few people to make a Staff Complaint, instead of an Unban Request, on account that an Unban Request is accepting fault. 5
Roostercat Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Hi. I was the person that mentioned getting the game. First off, I have no clue to the specifics of the JK Rowling drama nor do I actually care. I just saw a game from a franchise I like and bought it because I wanted a wizard game. People do not have to look into the background of every game's creator and decide whether to enjoy the content based on the creator's beliefs instead of just what is in the game. You then decided to post major spoilers right after confirming that I bought it just to be a dick. Your feelings towards the game's creator do not magically justify this. This is literally just a clear cut violation of rule 1 because you feel like ruining the plot for some moral grandstanding that doesn't even make sense. 2
Garnascus Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 You took it upon yourself to post spoilers for the game in OOC chat. A game that has not even been officially released yet. I am not entertaining the discussion of rowling's political views and it does not justify your naïve activism. A staff complaint should not be what you are making. I invite my team to disbar me if they feel i am in error here. You can appeal this at your leisure. You should be ashamed of yourself. EDIT I admit my emotions are running high over this. As such i was unnecessarily authoritarian in my first post. I apologize. however the remaining content of this post stands. 3
Alberyk Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I will handle this. Give me some time to check the logs.
ReadThisNamePlz Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 A reminder to those in the community that this is a Staff Complaint, not a public discussion thread. If you are not directly involved or asked to come forward by the Investigating staff member, do not post.
Alberyk Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Here is the rule you broke in question: Quote Don't be a dick. We're all here to have fun, not fight and argue with assholes. Don't ruin the game for everyone else, and use common sense. This includes anything from attacking other people, starting arguments over nothing, etcetera. Note that this rule applies primarily to OOC, LOOC, AHELP, and DEADSAY. Now, we move on what happened. The problem is that dropping the spoilers had no purpose other than ruining someone's enjoyment of something. If it was in the middle of a discussion or something even related to it, it would be a totally different problem. But this was pretty much doing a bad act for the sake of it. If you wanted to make someone aware of whatever the issues are with the game and its author, there are better ways to do that. Even if this was for a good cause, it is still a clear example of breaking the don't be a dick rule. There was no discussion, no conversation, it was pretty much done out of nowhere in the ooc channel. Essentially, what you did was being mean to someone with no motive tangibly related to the person, and everyone else, that said they had finished downloading the game. I agree with this ban. It was a blatant violation of the Don't be a dick rule. The merits of separation between the author and their works, ethical consumption, and other things should be discussed elsewhere. You can appeal this when you understand that having a good cause does not justify acting in bad ways. 1
