Lmwevil Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 (edited) I am sweating from checkpoint withdrawal, I haven't seen my wife and kids in weeks. I have had vivid flashbacks of checkpoint RP on the Aurora, and my nostalgia goggles are so thick I can't see anything else. I beg of thee, provide me a mere crumb of checkpoint rp. I miss talking to the arrivals in the round who are late and letting them in. Give me my mallcop desk... please... hnnghghghghrhhh edit: i am delusionally tired, forgive me Edited November 14, 2023 by Lmwevil 4 Quote
hazelmouse Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Honestly? could be legit cute, a tiny checkpoint can't take up THAT much space next to the res lifts. Quote
beepbopbeepbop Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 this is the best idea i have ever seen. Quote
Carver Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 My only concern is anyone trying to gatekeep people leaving the round in any form. Quote
greenjoe Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 here's a loose concept for a checkpoint like that I've put together Quote
Dreamix Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) But... why. A checkpoint makes no sense when everyone lives on horizon. What would the checkpoint officer be realistically doing, exactly? That checkpoint could easily be circumvented anyways by going into maint. If anything, I would love more ways to enter and leave the round that aren't centralized in just one place. And in fact not too long ago I moved cryo to the top deck, so that if bottom deck is vented/dangerous/exploded, there's a different place to leave the round. This should also absolutely not have shutters or blast doors. It should not be up to some sec officer to decide who joins or leaves the round. Edited November 15, 2023 by Dreamix Quote
KingOfThePing Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Absolutely not. Terrible and very nonsensical. Echoing what dreamy said. Quote
Fluffy Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 ICly-wise, it could make sense that a checkpoint is present, to avoid people from smuggling things down to residential (guns, equipments, Phoron, narcotics, whatever) OOCly-wise, it is a terrible idea, noone should be able to stop people from either leaving or joining the round ICly, and I highly doubt there's a consistent demand/wish for someone to sit in a box waiting for people to join or leave the round, and that said people want to spend time being searched before going to do whatever they joined to do, so I am not in support of this Quote
EJJ Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I can't agree with one outside of the residential lifts. Anyone could go put the shutters down intentionally to fuck with people or just forget and a bunch of people are screaming on common to be let out or fucking around in maint. If we're adding more checkpoints, the only places I could see them being viable is the port and starboard docking arms. (Though this is a terrible idea because people will just go put the shutters down on the arm Mercs come in through and Mercs are just fucked if someone does that.) I don't think checkpoints really work as well because on the Aurora, if you were on the top deck checkpoint you had fairly consistent interaction. Whereas there are only really two checkpoints meant for oneish person to staff. I usually only see people go to those to AFK or prep for antag stuff. Only really frequently used on events. Quote
Zelmana Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Would a Command checkpoint make sense? Quote
kermit Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Moved this to Suggestions & Ideas per the author's request; the post was being treated as such anyway. Quote

I'd disagree with that being a terrible idea, mercs and similar can simply go into space or enter illegally if they want to circumvent docking arm checkpoints. No one should be able to just freely enter the ship from official docking points without Command oversight, it's why the Auxiliary Hangar has a checkpoint and the Arrivals Dock (that only the Merchant uses). If anything, it's a rather great idea! Returning to the topic, I can't really approve of any kind of lift checkpoint after some thought. Even if it excluded shutters, as it well should, it doesn't terribly add anything: I don't want to be hassled when I'm trying to leave the round, under any circumstance; and there's no particular reason to check people coming up from their residence to work. 2 Quote
