Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 When the antag ops spawn in, they enter a secondary voting phase, where they vote between 'preset op' sets. "Jargon Commandos" - they all spawn as Skrell, with super specialized weapons and those fancy suits. Warble warble, motherfucker. "Hegemony Blood Marines" - they all spawn as unathi in breacher suits. With spears! Hiss hiss, motherfucker. "Syndicate Strike Team" - vanilla, and keep their preset races. This would be the "standard" nuke op where nothing changes. "Synthetic Advancement Team" - IPC (or shell) master race, with a burning hatred for organics. Beep boop, mother fucker. "Adhomai Insurgency Team" - All catbeasts, with tommy guns and fedorrras. Meow meow, mother fucker. This would give them some choice in choosing the flavor of their op without having to immediately rely on admins to reset their races. The vote would be like the round-start vote - the most vote wins. They'd have maybe, 15 seconds to vote? On conclusion, they get a little blurb, and their race changes, then they get to name themselves. So far faction-specific attack teams always require a special event, and it's always a glorified nuke ops. It would be great to justify these creative twists without revolving an entire event around it, and having it done through the players. It would also let "gimmicks" be done rather easily.
jackfractal Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Hmm... what if the secondary vote was just for the people who rolled mercs? I mean, it's their choice after-all.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Hmm... what if the secondary vote was just for the people who rolled mercs? I mean, it's their choice after-all. That was the intention - the ops would be the ones voting. So you'd have, what, 3 - 6 people voting? I don't know how the numbering works.
rrrrrr Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Yeah, this is cool, I guess. I like that it'd probably make things a bit more interesting than blow the armory, grab the AI, steal the vault, etc.
Vittorio Giurifiglio Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Add some more Humans you heretic
Garnascus Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Cats with fedoras? Im in.... Nah seriously though, sounds like a good bit of diversity.
Fire and Glory Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Seems pretty cool. Pain to code and separate from each other but cool.
Lady_of_Ravens Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 Sounds great. Nuke op teams are often such a jumbled mess.
Killerhurtz Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I love the idea, though there's one thing that bugs me extremely badly: How is this going to mesh with whitelists?
Carver Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I love the idea, though there's one thing that bugs me extremely badly: How is this going to mesh with whitelists? This is actually kind of a valid question, what if John Doe rolls Nuke Op and he never read the lore for X species, and their race-specific preset gets selected? Or, hell, better example here. I barely know jack fucking shit about cat lore, if the AIT gets selected when I was op (Because not every op is going to vote for the same 'team' I'd imagine) I would have no idea how to RP a cat, and, worse, how to name a cat. I would just be a tad directionless. This is probably even more snowflake code, but maybe have it require atleast one of the ops having a whitelist in X species before that team can be selected? This would let them help out their teammates a little in the lore/naming aspect, so you wouldn't have a bunch of lizards named John, Jeff, and Jim going around and wondering where their guns went and why they have spears.
Gollee Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I like this; it brings more depth to the world. Also, relevant. http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4065
canon35 Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I had an idea like this. My vox tribe lore app, which I'll link later, had 3 playable tribes in them. I was thinking of doing a suggestion if it got accepted that vox would spawn in a small station, with 3 rooms for each tribe. You could have 5 traders with a crazy guard with chem weapons, or a joint team of chem using crazies and vox in spiked armour.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted November 29, 2015 Posted November 29, 2015 I love the idea, though there's one thing that bugs me extremely badly: How is this going to mesh with whitelists? It'll just have to be a small sacrifice, I suppose. Ideally the player plays the race, realizes they know so little, and tries to read up on them or at least get the basics down. You also have to bear in mind that the operatives can hide their identities or assume false names like "Donk Pocket Pete". Even if they all become unathi, they can decide to be pirates with some being raised outside Moghes with no connection to the home culture. The same with the other races. As long as they roll their rrr's or hiss, anything else can be overlooked since the focus is on the mission and not their deep connection to the race stereotypes or whatever. This might even have people apply for whitelists, to play a particular race they became during a mercenary round.
jackfractal Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I think Jackboot has the right approach, just have this bypass whitelist restrictions.
LetzShake Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I think it should be fine bypassing whitelists. Antag rounds aren't canon after all, and it could be interesting playing a race you normally don't. Also yes, add pirates. And Russians.
Killerhurtz Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I love this idea and everything it could imply, now. Also what Shake said. I want my russian pirates.
Lady_of_Ravens Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 What about Clown Marines? I'd be okay with this... assuming that voting for clown marines results in the vote being discounted and the player who did so gibbing instantly. It'd make for more serious ops and less chucklefucks.
LordFowl Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Alternatively, any single vote for clown marines automatically forces all other ops to vote for clown marines. But we would need some supplementary lore for why the traditionally isolationist clown planets is now deploying 'covert' *wink* operatives.

See on one hand... I like the idea of clown marines. I just don't like the idea of it coming up often. Like once a week at most.

Yes, but then that player has to be be banned for griefing because they've ruined the whole round for everyone.

Clown Marines is already possible, you just need a while of space adventure to find the Derelict and collect your glorious uniforms. The vote would just make it easier.
Killerhurtz Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Why the hell does everyone hate clowns so much? We have rules for a reason, people. Chucklefucking wouldn't happen.
Hackie Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Why the hell does everyone hate clowns so much? We have rules for a reason, people. Chucklefucking wouldn't happen. We already have clowns, they were just renamed to Tajara. But clown marines would be perfect for a dead hour nuke. It gives the ops a chance to do something interesting without just killing people.
