Guest
So, I've taken a Christmas vacation and finally have the time to pull out my metaphorical pen and paper to do what I love. Write space fluff. What do you folks think needs working on in terms of planets, areas of space or simply fictional civilizations? Maybe expand the nebulous Sol Frontier that's currently getting rekt by Pirates? Work on Earth and try to understand how our unlikely descendants are doing? Some more Mars fluff? Maybe finally work on that religions page? Let me know and I'll figure it out. Quote Link to comment
coolbc2000
Work on Earth, you hear barley anything on it, Make it so that if you come from earth you are a speical snowflake Quote Link to comment
Guest
You can already be a special snowflake. Just invent a story your character finished 7 colleges while poor, struggling with a lethal disease and being held by Space Yakuza as a sex slave, and you're set! Jokes aside, is there anything midly specific you would like to see? Quote Link to comment
coolbc2000
How about the countries are getting along with eachother. Quote Link to comment
Guest
How about how geopolitical politics is relating to the galactic politics. Are all the countries on Earth the equivalent of US States to the Sol Alliance? Etc.. Quote Link to comment

Guest
Well, most of the staff actually agree with you that Earth should be relatively unified. Nations still exist by name, but they are pretty much like US States. The thing is, with advancement in transport and freedom of movement, wealth should in theory spread out across Earth. Geopolitics should therefore be peaceful, but I can imagine this is not the case due to poverty of specific areas still being a thing. Quote Link to comment

Its not like we have a post-scarcity economic model in the aurora universe. Its a trope that for one person to get rich, other people have to get poor. And Nanotrasen is very very rich Quote Link to comment
Mofo1995
Are most Earth languages dead languages now, or do they still exist but Sol Common is the lingua franca? What kinds of people colonized Mars? For some reason, I always imagined it would be thoroughly colonized by Russians, because lol red planet, but I'm honestly curious as to what countries really came out on top in colonizing Luna and Mars. I don't think most of the languages are dead, they just changed over the centuries. But for simplicity's sake, you can just call the new abominations of languages according to their primary roots. Sol Common is so widespread because of the effect China had on the world and the colonies in the following centuries, and is basically a mix of Mandarin and English. Tau Ceti Basic is a similar deal. I've kinda explained that Mars war rushed by transnational corporations and wealthy countries of the world, so the majority of the makeup is North American, West European, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Indian. Later, when space travel become cheap enough, a hordes of smaller companies helped diversify Mars even further. Russians would be one of the major groups. Luna, that might need a bit more of work, but would most likely be a similar case. I guess that's a good reason to work on actual history of Earth past this point. Quote Link to comment

Are all the countries on Earth the equivalent of US States to the Sol Alliance? Etc.. Â http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sol_Alliance#Senate_and_Parliament The Sol System has 4 senators for itself, where most systems have a single one. The Prime Minister of the Sol Alliance is also a member of the lower Parliament, and counts as 6 representatives. One for Earth, Mars, Europa, the Moon, and Unity Station, giving him 6 effective votes in the lower parliament, because each of these locations are individual member states of the Alliance. So Sol has some pretty heavy influence. Earth isn't the capital of humanity anymore - since the First Interstellar War (for humanity, anyway) it was moved to Unity Station in orbit of Earth instead of being the old UN headquarters in New York. Guest
i wasn't aware ATLAS had such a high representation in sol politics They do, because we had a vote. Atlas was second on the number of votes, and for some reason formed the coalition with the winning part, instead of the opposition. Quote Link to comment
rrrrrr
that reason being that the other two parties were left wing and would not agree with ATLAS's policies Quote Link to comment
Owen
I know this is off topic about what everyone was talking about, but I was thinking about fleshing out the frontier factions and giving them more substance. I know of the Eridani Federation and the Republic of Elrya but I was wondering if there are any more small factions like that. I am not really sure where I am going with this but I would just find it cool to have things like those fleshed out. Quote Link to comment
