Like cryo, but for the gateway. It'd allow us to despawn quicker by entering the gateway. It'd also make for better sense for characters that arrive through the gateway, to leave through it at the end of shifts.

Only concern, what system would be in place to mimic cryo's removal of weaponry?

 

A check that won't allow you to travel through with weapons is probably the simple thing. Something like a metal detector but not the exact same thing.

Gateway traversal halted: Tagged important Corporate equipment detected. Please disrobe of any labcoats, armor, weaponry and misc. tools before attempting again.


This would prevent folks from gatewaying with guns/holsters/hyposprays and etc.

What if the holster is something you spawned with due to custom loadout, though? Holsters going through seems fine, atleast the hip holster which is custom loadout only. Labcoats, again, you spawn with. Just have it block guns, hypos, armour vests/space suits. Traitor gear excepted.

Delta was just being vague, and presenting an example. It'll be for anything that basically goes through cryo into the cryo item storage, (Along with additions for belts and such that are full of weapons) basically. A simple check to add the holster if it's got a weapon in it. Or, a better idea would be to add an adminlog that shows when people cryo with this shit, so admins can harp on them like they're supposed to.

What stops people from evacuating through the gateway, when shit hits the fan, instead of trying their hardest to call the shuttle though?

I don't suppose ICwise, cryo pods get immediately launched out of Aurora, but instead, stored within the station itself for the cleanup crew... Thus, making it a tad dangerous.

That doesn't stop people from going to cryo anyway. If somebody wants out of the round, they'll either go to cryo, or ghost.

I am mostly speaking of IC point of view, not mechanical. Using cryo for evacuation would be impractical, while using a gateway would be ridiculously easy, and thus making shuttles absolutely useless.

What stops you from grabbing someone aggressively and throwing them into the gateway, despawning them? A prompt that says "Are you sure you wish to enter the gateway?"

10 minute cooldown. Gateway screens would glow red instead of dark green when it's on cooldown.

It should only be possible to leave through the gateway on code green, or else what'd be stopping nukie ops and other horrors from using it?

If people would raise to blue/red more often, that is.

Any reason why? I personally like it, and I've seen other people use it as their entry onto the station.

I'd like to throw in my two cents and say that I really enjoy the gateway. I always use it for my characters who come from Mars, for some reason. Likely something to do with old head canon.


As for the suggestion to make it possible to evacuate or do something similar to cryo through the gateway, I'd really enjoy that as an option and feel that the suggestion to only make it possible during code green or to enforce a cooldown on its operation sound like ways to make it both mechanically plausible and lore-friendly. I think it could explained away as something to do with heat build-up or excessive power usage that isn't feasible during heightened alert situations.

If we have a gateway, why do we use the escape shuttle?


If a gateway lets you go from the Aurora to Mars, why do we even have spaceships?


Why doesn't the chef just go through the gateway to Wal-Mart to pick up his groceries?


Why doesn't the Quartermaster have a gateway to push crates through?


Why doesn't the ERT or a battalion of Sol Alliance troops storm through the gateway every time we hit Code Red?


Why doesn't the Syndicate build a gateway and throw a tactical nuke through it into our station?


From a science-fiction universe setting, instantaneous teleportation over interstellar distances is a tremendously bad idea because it will destroy all these other elements. The short-range teleporter is one thing, since light is nearly instant at these distances, but I don't think the gateway has been considered for its impact on the universe.

The gateway doesn't really "fit"


It doesn't make sense that we can't use it for evac or for despawning, but i cant see a way to allow those things without causing lots of other problems just removing it seems like the mest logical solution.


Maybe replace it with a teleporter arrival point, the idea being that people would be deleported to the station by some massive station-sized longrange teleporter. one way of course because we lack the equipment on the station to send them back


either way though, it wouldn't be useable for despawning
