Prospekt Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Alright, so basically at the moment there are two ways to "detective". Either take up forensics or work on cases, etc. I believe that it'd be interesting to have bugs (a small device that can be hidden per say underneath objects or other areas that are minuscule and hard to find without knowing that you are exactly looking for it). Basically, it'd work as small devices that detectives start out with in their closet(s). One being sound-orientated where it only picks up sound and the other being possibly a small hide-able camera. They can be used separately or together for ultimate usage (sound/view combo). With this, you'd be able to effectively listen in on or view areas of interest, given you'd need to gather evidence against someone or in rare cases, something. Optional? Perhaps this is too unlikely for a normal detective? Maybe it can be a traitor item instead, you choose. In my own opinion, I think that this would be a great feature to the detective job, furthering their capabilities to catch pesky criminals.
Lord Lag Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Love this idea. Little additions like this usually end up being very entertaining.
SierraKomodo Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Regarding the ides of traitor item vs detective item... I'd say make it both. If both antags and non-antags have access to the same item, it'd help reduce the potential metagame aspect of 'Hey this guy has this item he's definitely an antag'. Also, this would be quite useful for both roles.
Kaed Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 guys, this item already exists as a traitor item, it's called the 'bug kit' and costs like 3-4 TC. It's not the item's fault no one ever picks it, it's pretty sweet actually - the bugs always automatically occupy the bottom layer of any tile, allowing you to slip them 'under' tables and other things. And then there's a fake PDA you can use to hear things near the bug, or to use the bug as a camera.

Considering what Sierra said, it'd make more sense for it to be both.
Outboarduniform Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I think it would need a warrant , detectives can't bug people 4noraisans. Imagine how pissed someone would be if they found out the detective was spying on them for a chance to valid salad without cause or suspicion

So you send someone in to bug the place before your mole meets up with his people.
Arrow768 Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 I really like this idea. Give the Det some surveillance items. But as Outboarduniform said: There needs to be a signed warrant. I am sure that creating a new form is the least problem.
Skull132 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Actually, these already exist as traitor items. Both of them. There's a bit of a bug with the radio UI, but I know what it is and I know how to fix it.
Nanako Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Given that this is such a rarely used and interesting thing, how about reducing the cost on the traitor item. But i do also agree with giving these to detectives by default. Someone listening in on secret conversations means someone else to share your RP with (willingly or not), fun shall be had
Brightdawn Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 You could always place hidden tape recorders around the station. Hide them in lockers and stuff.
