CommanderXor
BYOND key: CommanderXor Character names: Edward Cane How long have you been playing on Aurora?: About...two months, give or take a week or so. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Because I've played interim head of staff a lot and I've found it to be a lot of fun. Why did you come to Aurora?: Because I craved a lot of HRP and was unable to play on a previous server, so I moved on to this after a recommendation. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay in the most broadest and basic sense is taking on a roll of someone and acting out them is. To go further in depth, roleplay is about making a character, that may be a single one or a group of them, and molding it in to the universe you are playing in. This may be a simple mechanic in a post-apocalyptic world who is trying to survive all the way up to a CEO of a multi-trillion dollar corporation. Roleplay has to be believable, but also fun. A doctor wouldn't be setting up a super matter engine, a security officer wouldn't be flying a fighter in to a aircraft carrier on the coast of America, and so fourth. It's simply taking on a role in a world, and making it believable and enjoyable. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: A head of staff is there to babysit their department, they are there to help guide it along, sometimes with a firm steady hand, and sometimes to slowly nudge something in place so the entire machine works. They are simply another cog in a machine, but the cog is there to help the machine help run well oiled. Not only that, but they are there to help enhance the roleplay when it comes to antags. A antag may want to do a certain objective or goal and need someone beyond a janitor or doctor to help guide it along. They are also there to help ensure there is a certain person you can look to ensure everything is running well. Not only that, but Command tend to be a direct link between the station and the CCIA and vice versa. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: A whitelisted player is entrusted to uphold their whitelist and not abuse it. If you're applying for a CMO or HoS, you shouldn't suddenly jump in as the CE and do things. The staff and the server as a whole have trusted you not to sit back and use it as bragging rights, but to rather help further the roleplay of the server, and the general atmosphere of it. Both ICly, and OOCly. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Edward Cane Character age: 30. Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Cane's ancestors were a weird bunch to say the least. But that is for another time. At birth Cane was normal and the likes, learning how to walk and talk at a normal age like a majority. His parents were pushy however, always striving for a 'dream child', and to them, this was high grades, perfect clean records and good music, he passed 2/3 of those things. While in primary he may of been pushed further then most kids, once he reached highschool it hit a bad string. Hours of grueling work from his parents ontop of school work, while it helped him become smart and good grades, it wared him down mentally and socially. Anger outbursts and a lack of friends would wear down any man. Some would call it a snowflake background, but it has its ups and downs. He failed utterly at music which disappointed his parents. While on Earth growing up, he took up his own hobbies, drawing, Krav Maga, rifling and sailing. A lot of it he absorbed, but some went through him. Upon graduation his parents pushed him hard in to college, no mercy style. While his parents hurled money and scholarships at him, he was forced more and more, he snapped at people nearly daily, certainly weekly. He was put on medication as he went further and further down the foxhole of it. By the time he reached 28, he finished all his work and was a free man at last, medication stopped soon after as he started to gather his wits back. While landing a job as a Virologist of the Exodus for all his hard work, officially he has no records of his medication, only a few select few from the past ever even knew about it. What do you like about this character?: He is a wild card, you never know if he is going to give you a donut and coffee, or shout at you for messing up his work place. This may seem like a bad thing, but it allows total randomness to the entire thing. He might decide to help that person above everything else, or utterly shut you out. Some have described him as shady for it. What do you dislike about this character?: They are a /tad/ bit snowflakey. The background could be worked to include more, some more flaws, some buffs, readjustments, a lot of it can be adjusted and should be later on. And again, the wildcard. It's a double edged sword. It isn't a excuse to randomly murder someone or injure them, but it means they may do things that seem brash to others at first glance. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Well, they have worked hard towards it, each shift they have attempted to further the station. Either by working in medical and treating the injured, or hunting down criminals in security. It's only one person in all my lists, so I have used them /every/ shift. Meaning for several IC and OOC months solid they have been working to benefit NanoTrasen and the station. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Well, I would give it...if we used a number scale, 6-7/10. I do think I play way too much for winning. But I have been trying to improve further on my roleplay so it benefits everyone on the server and anyone who interacts with it, both with new gimmicks both for antag and non-antag(No self-antaging gimmicks!), and with readjustments and alterations to Cane. Extra notes: None, just thanks for reaching the end! Link to comment
Blingx3
Ehm, my simple input on this. is cane a good security officer ? yes. will cane be a good HoS ? propably not. Let me elaborate. I've played with him some shifts now. This character when put understress will do unexpected things, and will be very on edge. which is basically the whole time for the position you wish to play. Cane will follow orders and will get things done, but he's sometimes less concerned about regulations and more concerned about vengence. Another thing is the back story, I mean How is he a virologist and then you're applying for a HoS position, I've seen no where in the app that he studied for anything law related. Plus he's so young and not experinced. I suggest you make new character for this position, it would give you a fresh start, maybe as a CMO ? or HoS if you still prefer that. Link to comment
HunterRS
I've RPed with you before, when you were in medical, where you were constantly yelling at everyone over comms. Also Cane is very young, so what bling said applies to me also. I'm neutral here, but it may change. Link to comment
K0NFL1QT
Cane has three medical degrees last I checked his records, but he's in security 90% of the time. He got out of schooling at 28, and spent the last 2 years as an Nanotrasen employee, yet the Head of Staff positions require at least ten years experience in each department. By your own records and admission, he's unqualified to be HoS, I don't think he'd make a good CMO either, but he's always in security anyway so it's not like I have a lot of medical experience to draw from. These issues, plus hi unstable temperament make it a no from me. Link to comment
coolbc2000
No No No. This can not happen 1. Records. What records? This guy is in Security most of the time, but has...Three medical degrees? It seems he is also Rich or something? Does not make too much sence... 2. He is a liar, and has a anger issue. No. 3. What position would he even go? HoS, CMO? -1 From me. Link to comment
Faris
So I've been meaning to get back to this application, from the get go I'm going to honestly have to go with -1 but let me explain my reasoning and suggestion. The others have touched on your records so I won't go into detail about it, it makes no sense to me for a Doctor to let go of his high paying job to be a security officer along with the characters lack of experience for the job itself. I find that Cane can be hostile and aggressive in the wrong situations, and when I questioned you why you're working as an officer instead of a doctor, the short version of this was because of the "thrill". There are times when I also find you having issue with authority, I do not believe I've been on the receiving end of this, but I've witnessed it, there was an instance when Syion and yourself were suspended by Knapp, which let me tell you is an achievement, I don't think I know a more patient commander that her. So my suggestion to you, is give this application a pass and play around for a bit longer. You could also redesign your character around security more or make a new one for security. Link to comment
Fire and Glory
I've only seen Cane doing things from far away so I don't actually know much of him, I do know however is that he's been in security and medical, which as I've stated to Xor in-game, doesn't really make sense to me. Then there's the fact where Cane seems to be speaking Sol common over the radio for no reason at all, seemingly doing it just for the lulz (e.g. 'Watch some guy translate this') with no real point other then "Tajara can do this so I should be able to too." Which, I feel is a rather poor trait for a Head of Staff. Link to comment
Synnono
With some polish the OOC components of this application could pass muster for me. I'd like to see more about what the player is supposed to do for the crew during a round, rather than the character in their role. I don't like the idea that a head character is supposed to 'babysit' as well, though sometimes that is what they end up doing. It implies a micromanagement that can step on toes and diminish enjoyment. What I take a bit more issue with is the Cane character, and his suitability for the role of a Head. Assuming he worked as hard at med school as anyone else for an advanced and specialized degree, he might have what it takes to be put in charge of a pathology lab by age 30 as a virologist. He certainly wouldn't be in a position to run the entirety of medbay as a CMO though, and there is nothing suggesting he has the life or work experience to be considered for a HoS position at all. Also notable to me is that he's a wildcard with an unreliable personality, and you write that as being something you like about the character. While variety is great, and there are certainly some less than sane head characters aboard, the application tends to look for a character NT would reasonably promote. Why is Cane being trusted with responsibility for other people, when he himself seems to be emotionally unstable? While sorting out the above for me is something I am interested in reading, I agree with Sharp that you should consider a new character for this whitelist. Someone else could probably showcase your OOC understanding of the obligations a bit better, both on the app and in play. Link to comment
Mofo1995
I really think Edward Cane is a poor fit for command. He always seems to be aggressive bordering on belligerent, I've never seen him act respectful to anyone, and when I've not seen him in these conditions, he seems to be an irreverent memer who just jokes about rather immaturely. Most of these observations were made 2 weeks ago, so his conditions and character traits could have improved and become more fleshed out , but as it stands I wouldn't like an Edward Cane head of staff at all. Not to mention I feel being a security officer/CMO at the age of 30 is... strange. But that's a bit more subjective on my side to dislike the medical/security cross jobbing. I echo the suggestion of Aboshebab, maybe a new character with different attributes and more dedicated profession would be a better match? I don't really know what you as a player are like, only your character, but you seem like you could make someone whose a better fit. Link to comment
