Guest Marlon Phoenix
BYOND Key: Jackboot Game ID:bNn-aOL3 Player Byond Key: CommanderXor/ Staff involved: Sircatnip Reason for complaint: Validhunting as warden Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? SirCatnip kept clearing behavior by the rambos, which I disagree with. Approximate Date/Time: 3/7/2017 ~1:00am MST. I was a wizard named Hand of Sk'akh with EMP, jaunt, fireball, blind, and staff of change. Early on in the shift I jaunt around, popping next to people going "BEHOLD!" My main gimmick is that I start using the staff of change on mice and borgs to turn them into living beings, to show the power of creation and all that jazz. People are good sports for the first few minutes, which I appreciate. However, there were several sticking points. A player who I staff of changed into... Susan something, ran at me when I was in the hallway and embedded a butterfly knife in my skull. I didn't kill them, and escaped and asked security to arrest them. Later, Hanson or something similar, an officer, flashed me without warning as I was talking to Astor Norton. A mouse turned into a Tajara disarmed my staff of change and tried to use it, which transformed themselves into a parrot. That can all be fine, I suppose, if a bit egregious. My main problem is with the warden Sean Ritcher. My encounters with Sean Ritcher was one where he would wordlessly empty lethals into me the moment he spotted me. In the halls outside medical I used a staff of change on a dying officer to save his life since medbay was depowered. I repeatedly hit the staff of change to try and change them back into a human, and trying to make it clear that was my goal. Ritcher wordlessly starts opening fire, after having watched nearby for a moment. He hits a bystander, Astor Norton, in the process, in the eyes. Several security officers were following Ritcher into the medical bay and had held up there. I gave them repeated warnings and tried to explain, but they were not having it. I had at this point been attacked by: A rando with a butterfly knife, a virologist who pulled a syringe gun on me, an officer with a flash, and a warden with a laser rifle. I had a broken arm and leg that I had to splint myself because I was refused medical care by the virologist. I then decide to take revenge since diplomacy was clearly failing, and proceed to murder anyone holding a weapon. I repeatedly urge bystanders to leave the area because I am IC and OOC concerned about collatoral damage from my fireballs. Several of these people who died in my counter-attack in medical (in which I killed or captured/staff of changed everyone) complained and had me bwoinked, and sircatnip kept asking me to be careful about collateral damage, but kept clearing the random attempted murders against me because the players pulled the "im stressed" card. Long story short I pick off most of sec is killed. I use staff of change to revive any of them in crit, and I banish one to the research outpost EVA through the teleporter. In the end Ritcher, after several fireballs, surrenders. Because medical is unoperable I save his life with the staff of change. He tries to kill himself, and I tell him to not be a baby and start trying to staff of change him back to human. When he gets to become a xenomorph he disarms me and then claws me to death. I fail to escape, fireball at close range, and die. This is all context - my main issue is Sean Ritcher and Suzy. He had two laser rifles and was running around outside the brig chasing me, the antag. I'd complain about the other ones - Susan, specifically. Susan was screaming and running around with all sorts of weapons with the sole purpose of murdering me. It was not done in the spirit of good sportsmanship and I disagree with them avoiding punishment. You could really feel the seething urge to murder me these characters had - when the mouse-turned-tajara used my staff of change and got turned into a parrot, Suzy instantly began screaming that I murdered someone in the chapel, demanded I be killed, and tried to kill me themselves. In medical when they were in an advanced scanner and I kept offering to heal them they just kept cussing me out and threatening to murder me once they could stand. Fire and Glory
I had observed a good quantity and have my own opinions but I do not particularly care to weigh in, I only wanted to state that the primary reason Richter had two laser rifles was because I stuck mine into his suit slot when I elected to run to cryo. Scheveningen
Sean Richter is a character of CommanderXor, just for clarification's sake. Link to comment
CommanderXor
Right. From my view point, you were a threat. People claimed you were turning mice, people and borgs in to things. Such as the xenomorphs. Anyway, so considering things were going sour as power was dying and people just generally went SSD, I grabbed my three rifles. One for myself, one for another officer and one for a third. Anyway, as I walked around a bit because no one responded to my calls. I see you spamming staff on things in medical. While not a breach itself, it turns out they were borgs, which, tampering is a crime. Regardless, I shrug it off and move along. I then come back with a officer n the floor and you staff of changing him. Considering people screamed about you in the chapel. I took aim and fired after a few seconds. From where I was standing, it looked like you attacked crew members. Regardless, the xenomorphs you created had attacked me, and, you were trying to make more. So I went back and armed up, since the other officer cryo'd. Leaving me alone (Turns out the other officer was still active.) Considering you were just making xenomorphs at the time and I was attacked by them, I had to shut the source down. I walked in and opened fire since conflict had started earlier. You fireballed people, I opened fire, etc. I fail to see how this was any part 'valid hunting' when you broke regulations several times and security was either SSD, transformed or dead. Faris
This is a notice I'll be taking over this complaint. I'd like to warn from now everyone posting that personal attacks, insult, attitude or anything I find to be toxin is not tolerated, and may result in administrative punishment beyond the verdict placed for this complaint. Everyone is welcome to PM over the forums or to speak to me on the discord for anything related to this complaint, but keep in mind any remarks about other players over discord will also not be tolerated. Ornias
Hey, I play Astor Noton (Not Norton jackboot you son o). I was here and I'm going to weigh in a bit differently from what you'd probably expect. From an IC perspective, I was absolutely furious with the warden Sean Richter for permanently scarring me with a laser rifle blast point blank to the head, and allowing me to be attacked by two aliens while I shouted for his help. Now, as far as I'm concerned, that direct course of action was stupid, but I wouldn't say punishment-worthy. More just "Don't do this again or there will be trouble". However, it was a very confusing round. Any time a wizard goes peacewiz, they are going to be attacked eventually if they try anything even slightly out of line. I think we can all agree that this is fine - an antagonist, say, staff of changes someone or fireballs them, then they've made themselves a threat and should be arrested. I think we're all on the same page there. However, Jackboot made no attempts to step out of line at all. He was attacked by a random with a welder, which I considered ahelping, but I didn't know the full story. This same random disarmed him and tried to throw away his staff. I'm afraid I don't remember names, but if anyone could find that on logs, that would be great. I called for security, and nobody tried to stop them, because the mentality of antag = bad guy persisted. I think that's where this whole issue stems from - a very much antag = valid mindset. Take, for example, when I found at some point in the round a man lying, bleeding out on the ground, with the same person from earlier standing over them. I recoiled, and asked what the hell happened - and after a short "putting the pieces together" moment accused him of killing the man lying on the ground, which he then AGREED WITH. He claimed to have killed this guy and I called for security, told the warden Sean Richter, an officer, and a detective that the murderer was right there - and I was quite literally ignored as the man walked away because not antag = not guilty. The blame was immediately placed on the antag, which provided more fuel for the crew to attack the antag, which provided more reasons for the antag to need to defend themselves, which created more fuel for the crew to attack the antag. That's just my two cents though. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
That's exactly what it was. I was wondering why they kept screaming about me committing murder. The two characters - Suzy and Sean - were absolutely committed to seeing me dead. Even after surrending to me the Warden took advantage me healing him to full health (and trying to get him back to human) to maul me to death. It makes it worse that he was behaving this way as a warden. There were several officers and detectives on call, and the warden Ritcher was scrambling around on a death mission. He even said things like "Im going to kill you!" Bear in mind that before I went after them in the medbay, no one had died by my hands that I am aware of. I was being hunted down by a rando and a warden. The Warden shouldn't be behaving this way. He has the access and authority over the brig but the catch for that is supposed to be that he doesn't act like an officer in a tactical suit. He and Suzy made it extremely difficult to interact with the crew, because they were utterly dedicated to validhunting me. People kept murdering my mice that I had changed into humans/diona/unathi, with Ritcher even decapitating a mouse I had turned into a unathi nurse after charging into medical with lethals. I took every step to try and resolve the situations through peaceful ways. I asked security to arrest Suzy for assault after she embedded a butterfly knife in my skull, I just scolded people who disarmed my staff and ran off with it/tried to use it, and tried to turn them from parrots into humans, and generally tried to do my gimmick. Their behavior hijacked the round. Link to comment
Faris
On regards to CommanderXor, from what I see they neglected to properly follow SoP in terms of escalation of force and immediately went for lethals, which turned the round into the murder fest, as opposed to attempted to de-escalate the situation, while a person that enters your workplace and begins changing pests into things is a cause for alarm, some measure of rationality should've been employed. I'm not going to be giving any extra punishment currently as they were already punished for this type of behavior after this complaint was made but I will speak to them and explain to them what was wrong along with how to improve upon this for future incidents. Furthermore, any further incidents of this will have an escalated punishment. As for Cirukcaller, all I really see is that changing him got out of hand and he may have went crazy, I really don't see any instances on that specific player trying to rambo you or valid hunt you as they did play along with your gimmick initially. I will note that as the round progressed, security became unorganized and were going down in term of manpower, but they shouldn't have left their duties of guarding the brig. It feels a bit like metagaming the round type to me, there is no way to confirm that there is only one hostile on board the station as you could've just been a diversion of some sort, so the Warden leaving his primary responsibility when Officers were about seems like neglect to me.
