ajstorey456 Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 The art of converting someone to the cult involves putting the person on a rune and activating it, opening their mind to the forces of the Dark Geometer Nar'Sie and bending their will to the Cult. Why can a mortal resist this and not die instantly? Typically, if you are on a rune and the rune is activated, a cultist did something right up until that point, and as such, they should have a fresh and steaming cultist coming off the oven rack. Rather, you get someone who presses "no" and types "say ";HELP BAR MAINT URIST MCCULTIST IS TRYING TO BRAINWASH/KILL ME CORDS ARE 1,800,FUCKCULT." Either that, or they press "no" and you were smart/robust enough to get their headset off before slapping their ass down on a rune, so instead they start trying to fight you, in which killsharding is pretty much your only option. So why can Joe Blow resist the powers of a literal blood god and go on to punch the acolyte in the head enough times to be a hero or be conscious to scream for help? It seems a bit unbelievable and powergamey to me. Rather than a prompt to become a cultist, I would instead suggest a "ritual," where you have to keep the person on the rune for X seconds, like 5-8 seconds or so, and after that, they are cultist without any denial. In that time, they can resist, be saved, or scream all they like, though they probably won't be because my hand will be over their mouth.
Azande Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 tl;dr But. This is a game, you can't force someone to do something they don't want. It also means you need to put EFFORT INTO GETTING SOMEONE rather than relying on your insta-rune to mean you never have to worry about someone calling for help.

People don't want to be forced into shit without RP. It's bad enough that most of the time they crystal you anyways so if you don't want to do Cult, you have to ahelp it.

Eh, there's a significant effort needed to get someone, and we have shitty rune design regardless. * It's inconsistent because someone can just meme resist out, and even if they do that half of them ghost because they can't accept that they can't always get what they want in a video game. * People can just refuse and call for help, meming the cult. *It doesn't require two people to use for some reason. And regardless, the "insta rune" isn't instant, the stuns required to get you are like the meme flash paper however are.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I love cult, and get really excited when it's selected. I love being a cultist but I try to not make it easy to catch me because trying to escape is part of the fun. However, While I am also very frustrated when people resist to death, you need to understand that cult is probably better off without them. If someone is so mean spirited that they'd rather die than join your cult, then will they really be a positive boost to your cause? In a handful of times in the past I have been so frustrated at the circumstances of being converted myself that I let myself die, so that I don't let my frustration seep into my cult playstyle. I usually love becoming a construct though. It's sick as hell. When it becomes clear that someone is wanting to resist to death, you can still sacrifice them to gain words, or kill them and sacrifice their corpse. In addition you can still try to get them sharded to become constructs, even though most people ghost immediately to avoid this. The sort-of voluntary conversion is important because it gives you people who more or less WANT to be cultists. If it was forced then cult would be filled with many frustrated people undermining it whenever possible. Even with the voluntary nature of constructs, I've had a handful of constructs be very snippy and rude because their player was clearly upset at being forced into the cult. While IC'ly it may be unreasonable that people resist to death, there is important consideration to be had about the OOC mindset, because that affects how characters and playstyles are done IC'ly. There is so much anger revolving around cult because many people are very upset when facing cultists and their character having to be killed to further the plot, or converted against their will. Every other cult round has a cascade of seething rants in OOC, or the player discord, and you are GUARANTEED to get angry LOOC messages right after a periodic failed conversion. These sort of players would not be a positive addition to the ranks of the cult and should be allowed to opt out, but face the consequences of their action being death.
AllyBearsley Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 I don't like cult. I don't like how most people play cult. I think it can be fun. I haven't experienced fun playing cult yet. I don't want to be a cultist. If I resist you are free to kill me and I'll stick around to be a construct. I find being a construct more fun than being a cultist. That's just me. People have preferences. I want to LOOC to antags more often, but I'm always afraid someone will catch it through a wall and come snoopin for them juicy antags.

Antags are generally opt in and i think this is healthy for the game as a whole. that being said spamming "no" simply because "i didnt get enough roleplay" is shameful. The onus isnt on you to decide if the cult is role playing well enough. Ideally we would live in a fantasy utopia where everybody played in good faith and everyone was happy to roll with any situation that isnt explicitly against the server rules. While I am also very frustrated when people resist to death, you need to understand that cult is probably better off without them. essentially this We cannot force people to have fun. I would honestly love to be able support forced conversions provided a fantasy utopia. Right now it would just make cult rounds even more of a salt-filled headache.
Alberyk Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 People are free to resist the cult conversion since they will die or be broken at some point, having choice is good and with choice also come consequences, I am against this being forced in this case. Voting for dismissal.
LordFowl Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Voting for dismissal. If it is a player's choice to die of insanity rather than submit to chaos, such is their's. Binning.
