BYOND key: TomiixStarslasher

Character names: Azala Guwan/Huz'kai and Sir Ver are the ones I mainly play.

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I have been playing since 2016, so almost two years now.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I am usually playing during later hours normally, and there is typically a shortage of heads of staff. Being able to provide mentorship and assisting people in doing their job and providing leadership is something I think I would really enjoy.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I like heavy roleplay and characters actually mattering, and I like the pacing of Aurora.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay is the act of of having a character and acting out as that character. Space Station 13 provides the stage and the players are the actors, with the hope and intent of creating a story that we all enjoy. Roleplay should be fun, inclusive to everyone, and engaging. Able to leave you fulfilled, and possibly even learn something new about the game itself or open your mind to character concepts or introduce you to new interesting stories. As a head of staff, I feel like I would be able to add to this experience.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

The head of a department is supposed to be a guiding force for players in game. To be able to teach players mechanics and give them a purpose during the round. They are also there to be the first stop against their department ruining the round for the others. The Head of Security is to ensure their department knows the corporate regulations, and the security guards realize they are not above the law. The Chief Engineer needs to ensure that their engineers don't destroy the station. The Research Director ensures the science department follows regulations and keep scientific materials secure. All of these heads provide important direction so that the round can progress as normal.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

Department heads are required to be knowledgeable of their department, and are an essential resource in assisting players do their roles the best they can. To create roleplay experiences for the members of these departments to enjoy. They are special because they have the authority to make the rounds different, and can help lead and organize their department to do things that individual members couldn't do on their own. They also provide a chain of command so that players can have more immediate responses to issues they are having with other characters, and allows someone to help them in these scenarios as a mediator. Rounds without heads feel rather empty, and are definitely better off with them instead of without them.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Jedark Korpar

Character age: 40

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Jedark Korpar was born on Perspolis in the New Ankara system to a wealthy family of researchers who worked for The Serene Republic of Elyra's Center for Disease Control. He was brought up with a understanding that education was important, and was a successful student. During his childhood he constantly looked up to the stars, and loved pointing out constellations and doing his own research on star patterns. He graduated with stellar marks, but left university with a chip on his shoulder, as he lost valedictorian-ship to a rival of his. During schooling and his younger years, he worked as a secretary in his parent's department.

He finished University with a Phd in Astronomy, and worked as a intern with Nanotrasen developing new space mapping technologies. Upon his graduation he was made a science officer on the NCV Clark, and moved his way up the ranks until becoming second in command of the exploration vessel. During his time on the Clark he achieved a good number of small successes. Including developing a method of finding Phoron on asteroids using soil samples and analyzing crater data on celestial objects. He also helped study and map new worlds that the Clark had discovered, and marked some as potential expansion for future Nanotrasen endeavours. Upon an end to the Clark's most recent ten year mission, Jedark was offered the chance to become a captain of the new Phoron Research station 'Aurora II." He humbly accepted this invitation and will begin his newest duty soon.

What do you like about this character?:

Unlike my other characters who are quirky or underdogs, Jedark never had it rough. He was born to a wealthy family who got him through school and has enjoyed a comfortable life. He is interesting to me because he is going into a whole new environment after just completing an exciting ten year research expedition. Sure at first he might view the Aurora as a vacation and cake walk compared to the constant excitement of traveling the universe. But I enjoy the idea that I will soon be roleplaying a starry eyed adventurer who is constantly mopey and grumbly that he has to stay on station.

What do you dislike about this character?:

Jedark will be the kind of boss that is constantly looking to get hands on with his crew after a while, to try and fill in the mundane in his work and spark some kind of adventure. This would perturbe me and certainly some other crew members, who would just rather him mind his own business and sit in his office chair. He isn't going to try and be a renegade security officer every chance he gets, but he does like to get involved hands on when things arise to a fault.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

Not only is he well studied, has plenty of experience with nanotrasen, and has leadership experience. But he is the kind of normal, successful character that is super invested in the company that Nanotrasen would want to make the captain of one of their important Phoron Research Stations. He isn't overtly quirky besides some weird pseudo science that he like to theorise about in his free time, and overall wants the company to succeed, and is extremely loyal to Nanotrasen at this point.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

As much as I despise speaking on behalf of myself in these matters, I think I bring a good amount of roleplay to the server. While I am not the type who has a bind for every common emote that I use, overall players seem to like roleplaying with me, and we create the kind of experiences that has us looking for each other OOCly, and actually scheduling times to play with each other. I feel like I could handle roleplaying as a head well enough.

Extra notes: It took me awhile to finally apply for this, as I originally wrote this draft in October, but I wanted to make sure I was extra ready for this whitelist. Honest onions down below please.

An enjoyable player that managed to get themselves into NTWA as their president no less just through the votes of majority.

I've personally played quite a lot with them in robotics and I can attest they're capable of leading, commanding and taking charge but at the same time taking charge can be an issue.

You see most of your characters seem the "Bang on wall until it falls down" kind of characters, taking charge, going first, kicking down doors and taking names.

BUT admirable as it is this can be an issue, doubly so regarding an RD and that issue is stealing jobs. RD researchers are supposed to both manage staff, what exactly is being researched and how it is suppposed to be utilized, but at the same time fall into the trap of doing everything themselves because it's simply easier and they have the abillity to do it.

So my question is, how exactly do you imagine these "adventures" and the general idea of how you hope to manage your department?

Otherwise I have no issue with the player, their playstyle and enjoy their presence in the game, +1

I think it's a captain role not RD my dude?

Regardless, my thoughts echo Coalfs. You're a good roleplayer and you know your stuff - mechanics and server culture wise. I have fun playing with you when our times align but my question is:

How exactly do you imagine these "adventures" and the general idea of how you hope to manage your department?

To add to this, what would Jedark do with the research department? Is he a profit man? All about the science? A bit of both?

Jedark, being a captain would let the Research Department be run by the RD!

AHAH, YOUR TRICK QUESTIONS WON'T FOOL ME!

But, um yes.

Captain Korpar is interested in science, and since he is the captain of a research station, would be incentivised to direct the station into ensuring that research is being done. He is more interested in interesting findings then money, and would encourage the crew to discover new things while he helped manage the leadership. He will want to check in on the work up front, and provide guidance when needed, but clearly there is a chain of command up to him when it comes to 'who needs to get this job done.' He is going to get sick of being idle and alone, he will try to think up and set goals for the station to try and continue progressing it forward.

'Adventure' is a bit too much of a grandiose word for him going around and checking in on people and helping with things during his free time.

I admit I read the words "Degree, phD and graduation" and assumed, assumptions of assumping assumense.

The question still stood, Captain's in particular are extra known for stealing peoples jobs, manily the job of other heads by directly taking command of their departments (security) for not reason at all.

But I'll stop talking now before I make a bigger idiot of myself.
