Bauser Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Now that I've properly comprehended what you wrote, I can say that instead of a really, really shitty defense, it's just a passively uninspiring one... The point I'm attempting to make is that only rarely seeing a specific gamemode win the vote is evidence of the voting system discouraging it. And that's obvious considering it's like a massively split ticket. 9 times out of 10, if you vote for exactly the mode you want to play, all you're doing is 'throwing away' your vote since the top contenders are secret and extended every time. BECAUSE, given the vast disparity of options, the only thing you can reliably get the players to agree on for the vote is either "I do want antags" or "I don't want antags." So even when there is unspoken consensus about what specific mode is desired, the vote will not properly reflect it. It begs for like a staggered vote, where we vote once for "antags or extended" and a second time for "specific mode or secret" if antags win the first vote. I know that's not going to happen, but it would help the vote do what it's actually supposed to do: tell us what mode people actually want to play.
UnknownMurder Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 I shall state only stating for what I believe in for everyone's fun and benefits. I support this suggestion for my a very good reason, you're welcome to argue my reason. When I vote secret, I at least want to see some interesting roleplay/gimmick coming from anyone who's willingly to provide without self-antagging. There are have been too many cases when it turns out to be extended and I find myself sitting around entirely bored because no one is attempting to contribute to fun or make a conflict. We've looked at the rules and are trying not to self-antag or create a conflict wherein the antagonist's job is to do so which is the reason why most of us just sit around and do nothing. I wouldn't want to waste two hours on a game where you hop on, do your job, while expecting a small portion of fun to only receive none. The only reason I come to this server is to at least have fun and expect (Yes, I do dare say this) something to go wrong or antagonists to start stirring shit up so that we all may do our part to make the round painful fun. I can see where the administrators are coming from their reasons however I would like to at least ask these questions with honesty and professionalism. Do we know what the majority of users/players/people of the server and community wants? I understand that there is a clear mixed thoughts in the community however can we be sure that this is the right direction Aurora Station community should going to? Could we be reminded once more what is the purpose of secret rotation and why does extended apply to secret rotation? Lastly, do you support anime?
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 The attitude of "go back to MRP" just when someone doesn't like extended is definitively problematic. Aurora's primary identity is HRP with antagonists. You should not be guilted by 'real fans' for not buying in as much as they have. I don't really like extended either but it's important to keep in secret. At the very least it is the first gate in our defense against metagaming. If you think it might be extended then you know your actions may be canon and so you have to behave better IC'ly. I definately agree though that extended popping up can be disappointing, but it's necessary.

Yeah, I'm convinced now that extended may be necessary in secret, which is why I'm suggesting letting players know whether or not if extended was rolled during secret so they can act accordingly. Pros: - Whiners looking to start shit leave. - People who are bored can play something else. - People can adjust their roleplay accordingly. Cons: - Metagaming. - Server player count may drop.
Azande Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 The attitude of "go back to MRP" just when someone doesn't like extended is definitively problematic. Aurora's primary identity is HRP with antagonists. I think the problem is that for like a year to two years, it was not HRP with Antagonists. Extended was extremely common in the past, and I feel like a lot of us miss the quality RP interactions we got back then. Relationships between characters were a lot more solid.
