Staff complaint - TheDocOct, ShameOnTurtles
ShameOnTurtles replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
This was the appeal, for reference: The reason I denied it was because in your appeal I did not believe you were fulfilling the criteria of an unban appeal. I got the sense you didn't agree with the judgement, didn't think you were in the wrong, but still just wanted to be unbanned. While yes, you do say "I will not repeat the mistake." the phrasing around it does not communicate that you were taking responsibility. -
As has been said in the past there is virtually no chance of a gamemode/antagonist being removed 'until it is reworked' as if it is removed, a rework is extremely unlikely to actually happen. It's anecdotal, but I've seen great rounds as changeling and terrible rounds. It's like any other mode in that it can be done very well and sometimes isn't. I do not believe it is terrible at it's core. Voting for dismissal.

[Denied] AmoryBlaine Job ban appeal
ShameOnTurtles replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Unban Requests Archive
I don't see you here taking responsibility. You try to justify it, but that isn't the same thing. Specifically bringing up the fact that you got a permanent jobban with no temporary bans on record does not provide me with the confidence that you understand what was wrong, accept the punishment, and are just seeking another chance. To clarify, you do have a temporary jobban from security on record, and that, plus related notes and warnings, is likely what contributed to this being a permanent jobban. This appeal is denied. You may apply again in no less than two weeks. -
[Denied] AmoryBlaine Job ban appeal
ShameOnTurtles replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Doc is unavailable for the moment so I will be taking this appeal. First off, I am inclined to accept this, but one thing that gives me pause is that you don't really seem to take responsibility for your actions here. I need to know that you understand where you went wrong in the lead up to your current ban, and you won't let it happen again. -

Apologies for the delay on this. RTNP and I have decided to resolve this complaint with a warning to @Diona Gestalt (654). It will be applied once this complaint is archived. We found that while you had an excellent plan and did make an attempt to hint at what was to come, you didn't do enough to justify throwing the first manhack grenades on the construction level. More warnings to leave the plants alone, through verbal contact or physically putting yourself between them and the plants (possibly pushing them, as well) should have been attempted first. Essentially, you're being warned because you didn't provide enough escalation before using the manhacks to kill everyone/severely injure those on the construction level. You essentially ganked people, and while we appreciate the hints you tried to drop with Xenobiology and the Surface toilets, it wasn't enough by itself to justify the actions on the construction level. It should be noted that this was the intended original resolution on server, but the handling moderator has to go quickly and it slipped through the cracks. The other issue reported by this complaint, that of L0rd_English being invisible on the shuttle, was handled in round by staff and we won't be changing that here. This will be left open for 24 hours for any closing comments. -
[Accepted] Unban appeal - BrianGTFO
ShameOnTurtles replied to BrianGTFO's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Sorry about the delay on this. I am going to accept this appeal but you need to be aware that any more rule violations will likely result in another permanent ban, considering your history. Before you join or play, read our rules and adminhelp if you think something may go against them. Locking and archiving. -
After thinking about this one thing I've settled on is that I would like to keep complaints centered around the forums, as they are currently. All the information relevant to the complaint can be found in a single thread. It makes life easier, and in the case of justifying a ruling it definitely makes life easier. This is something I would like to keep. One immediate thing that can be done with this is carry over, with a slight modification possibly, of the staff complaints rule about only posting if involved. This would give staff more of a platform to control discussion in these threads. I don't think an overhauling of the complaints process such as this should be implemented before other measures. What are your thoughts?

Not yet. You haven't actually described a reason that you should be unbanned. Why should you be given another chance after the long history you have? -

To clarify, those PM logs weren’t not intended to try to catch you out. The language indicated to me that you knew something was off about how you used the ability, not to imply you always have to agree with admins when they are questioning you. With that said, it’s been 24 hours. Locking and archiving. -
BYOND Key: ShameOnTurtles Character Names: Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): RGB (132, 91, 55). It's between Beaver Brown and Kochiba. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, I've played most of the possible backgrounds of a human, and I want to try something new. This has been a feeling for quite a while. I wasn't sure about applying but I've had my eye on Tajara for a while and I really like the aesthetic they have. The political dynamic they have is unique in our universe and I think it opens the realm to a lot of interesting characters that have a believable reason for being on station. The character concepts that are opened up by a new race, specifically Tajara, are staggering. After I read the lore pages about Tajara, my anticipation for making a character only grew. While it may not seem like the most character-making detail, I had no idea about Tajara sleeping/waking cycles until just earlier and I love it. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, for starters, as I mentioned in the previous answer their political climate is unlike anything else in our lore. The factions of humanity that are vastly different in their ideals are all spread out, whereas with Tajara these political superpowers are right next to each other. This clash comes with it's own unique atmosphere for characters. These individual characters can be extremely bleak, yet on a grand scale I saw it as relatively hopeful. Tajara players can roleplay essentially an enlightenment that has come with the two revolutions, and the war that threatens to potentially drag them back from this enlightenment. No human can claim to have that conflict. Also, while humans largely don't have any problems with race or gender roles, Tajara still heavily focus on societal roles based on ethnicity, with all the room for conflict or subservience in relationships that can come from that. Character Name: Nrrardonov Tabbal Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: What do you like about this character? I really like how far he's fallen since his 'golden days' of philosophizing with friends. He was forced to betray everything he's believed in, and believes it was wholly his fault. He's definitely going to be withdrawn and outwardly supportive of the PRA. I am looking forward to possibly playing a character that's scared of this national force. Also, scared of his own reputation. I have a couple ideas how he can develop depending how things go, and I'm looking forward to fleshing those out. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10, or something of that nature. I'm definitely not the best, but I believe I'm good at roleplaying the little things that make a character interesting and believable. Notes: I'm so sorry about how long this turned out, I tried to trim it down a bit but didn't make much of a dent. Also; I know I don't talk about religion in the story. I wasn't sure where to fit in. Nrrardonov would be a follower of S'rrendar and Messa, and very strong in believing that S'rrendar and Messa are behind his causes, supporting him. This faith is definitely shaken by his imprisonment, but he still believes, thinking it was punishment for his hubris.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint- Alberyk.
ShameOnTurtles replied to Itanimulli's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Alright, I've come to a resolution. Please, in the future, contest staff actions that you feel are unjustified so they can be reviewed. In general, we don't know if something is wrong until you tell us. Not doing this leads to situations like this where notes/warnings/bans that you feel are invalid are used to decide on the ruling for an issue on server. Unfortunately it is not feasible to review each note at this point as some are several months old. Moving on, I do not believe that Alberyk did anything wrong in this scenario. This is for two main reasons: Your history points to a trend of not understanding the rules/staff actions. While AFK notes/warnings/bans may not seem relevant in judging whether someone should be permabanned or not, if there is a long history of ignoring staff punishments for AFKing (without good reason, sometimes we all have to go suddenly as you mentioned in your jobban appeal) that will be taken into account. All targeted abilities work in the same way as Hypnotize. Most, if not all, base abilities of antagonists have cooldowns. Alberyk was not unreasonable thinking you knowingly abused this bug. I can completely understand not being observant to cooldowns or wanting to experiment with ablities, however I have a hard time believing you did not at least somewhat suspect that it was not intended. This is an example of language that makes me think this: This wasn't the exact method used to hypnotise multiple people with one charge of the ability, but what you did is still an exploit of how cooldowns work. You mention not needing to wait for the cooldown then say you didn't realize Hypnotize had a cooldown. No action will be taken as a result of this staff complaint. I encourage you to make an unban appeal to potentially get the punishment lifted. This will be locked and archived in 24 hours unless any new information comes to light. -

@Itanimulli I have not reached a resolution yet but I would like to ask you a couple questions. You reference a couple warnings/bans here as not being fair or justified. Why did you not contest these at the time they were given out? You've only posted one other staff complaint apart from this one, and it was resolved saying the warning was valid. Alberyk brings up the point that you used hypnotise earlier in the round, and would have experienced the substantial cooldown during which the option disappears completely. Mechanically and thematically it doesn't make sense to be a rapid-fire stun. Why did you not adminhelp this as soon as it happened? To clarify something, nowhere in the complaint you linked is it stated that warnings won't be removed if they are found to be invalid. All administrative actions can be rolled back if they are found to be unjustified, and this has been the case for as long as I can remember. -

ShameOnTurtles replied to Kaed's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
@Kaed This seems to have fallen through the cracks a little bit. It looks like the situation resulting in this complaint had some miscommunication in it, but I don't think with the information here any administrative action should be applied. Do you have any other concerns that you want addressed, by @Bath Salts Addict or myself? -
This was open for a lot longer than intended and no further comment has been made. Resolution will be carried out as described above.

Prate really said all I wanted to, with the exception of specifying that loyalty implanted personnel should almost never be signing contracts from wizards. I would adminhelp to get permission if you do with to go down that path. As for updating/reworking implants as this suggestion describes, I don’t think it’s necessary to further mechanically restrict stuff with implants.
