[Denied] Tbear13's Head of Staff Application
calion12 replied to tbear13's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Tyler White is really the only character of his I've actually seen. I've been his HoS and been a cadet under his supervision. Both times he felt like a decent character. Followed orders, wasn't a general asshole, had his own personality rather than being a blank slate or over-accentuated caricature. He isn't the standard asshole sec officer nor does he think shooting his way out of a problem is the only solution. All of these I personally like about him. Can't say much about the other characters but since this is a HoS app, I'm assuming this is the one that matters the most so definite +1. -
BYOND Key: Calion12 Character Names: Fideal Al'majoree, Vieniamin Sokolov, Naziha Ta'Quadir Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Turquoise-ish Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I think the idea of playing a technologically advanced race is fun. Plus speech patterns are always fun. I'd quite like to work the longevity of their race into my character's points of view, taking in not only the short-term concequences but also the long-term. Even if that's not a typical trait of the Skrell I think it'd make for more interesting interaction with the short-lived races. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Aside from speech patterns and looks, the potential for robotic distrust and the effects of sterilisation and the implications of such a thing would make Skrell interaction with other races (especially ones that might not completely understand these implications) an interesting thing to witness. Perhaps a character could have lost a child before, making it a sore point on an otherwise calm, logical character, causing them to clam up somewhat in contrast to their natural need for socialisation. Playing a prideful race would be an interesting departure to the all-to-common gung-ho approach many human characters take on. Character Name: Seenquix Vas'tuul-Din Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Being hatched on Jargon in 2420 to a caring mother and father, Seenquix was raised as a fairly average skrell. Her mother balanced raising her new child with her day-job of being a minor yet prominent newscaster while her father worked back-breaking manual labour. Her mother stressed the values of education, taking it upon herself to teach the young skrell many things that would help her gain an edge over the rest of her classmates. Due to her mothers extra-curricular teachings, Seenquix quickly became one of if not the smartest of her education group. Despite being very academically adept, she wasn't as good as the other students in the department of art, preferring to view other people's pieces or listen to other people's music instead. Possibly her two favourite things to learn about were history (both of her own people and that of other species, which she found fascinating) and the noble sciences. Upon comparing the history of her people and humans, she could could not see how the humans can feel safe with an AI invading every facet of their lives. There were too many parallels for it to be a coincidence from Regluk and Sqlik Hgrushi to the formation of their Federation seeming rather similar to the progression of early-human democracy. However, it was not her place to question. She went through schooling, landing a place in Gliutip’lyaz University to her parent's glee. There, she gained extensive knowledge of the intricacies of experimental technologies and biology. Upon graduation, she went to work with other scientists on her level. She ended up on a cold fringe world, working with many other species. Over time she got to know the most prominent researchers, most of which being humans. She grew to consider many of them Quualt'Yiilet. Many a friendly debate raged, mainly over Seenquix's interest in human stance on synthetic intelligence. Eventually she conceded that many of the problems her species faced spanned from their style of "teaching" these AIs rather than slaving them to laws. Many of her coworkers recognised the danger that a Glorsh-omega event could potentially present, Even if the species wasn't wiped out by the AI itself, the genophage would present a long-lasting issue. After all her time working among humans, she grew curious as to what went into creating a perfect AI, cross-referencing what the humans did compared to skrell and noting any differences that would potentially lead to an uprising. In order to gain a better insight, she bid farewell to her previous colleagues, deciding to seek out more permanent work with humans, she still wanted to find out everything she could about them. She sent out many requests to many human organisations and Nano-Transen was the first to respond. What do you like about this character? She's not a mary sue-like infallible character, she has flaws and weaknesses. In-game, she will still have an aversion to AI and borgs in general but her intrigue will drive her to put aside some of this distrust for the sake of curiosity. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd say I'm rather good. Having demonstrated that I am capable of replicating efficient speech patterns and believable characters both alien and human in the past. 7/10 Notes: sorry about the ham-fistedness of including lore. I'm bad at sliding it in naturally, hope you can work past that.

Didn't read all of this because tbh I'm lazy but what I read was very enticing. I like good old body horror and atmosphere a lot more than "murder spree lol" and when I ling I try to carry my stance through to the end. I rarely get horror form or even absorb many people but usualy spend the first points I am given and make an idea that I think is fun for myself and ithers involved (which I try to make be all the crew at once). Overall I'd be down with this. I can't actually help add to it or code it or anything but y'know. I'd support it.

Colton's fun. Haven't seen much of his other characters but he seems a decent RPer. Not much else to say really. +1. -
I have died to an accidental click so many times it's not even funny. I'd agree to removing the auto-lock on.
-
ooohh, this is a fun idea. I agree with most if not all points made and think actually trying to save a life rather than just "What's that, he died? Oh well, throw him over 'ere, let's clone 'im" would be quite fun on top of being very very satisfying if pulled off right.

[Approved] Saudus's Head of Staff (IAA) Application
calion12 replied to Saudus's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've seen Harrow only a few times but he was great. A great character, not dull but not overly eccentric. He antags well too and is quite enjoyable all around. I would give him +1. -
That all being said, OOCly I hace no issue with you and IC I have no reason to dislike any of yojr characters. I have not had much interaction with them outside of this but I hope this experience has not tainted your view of me or Sokolov and I do honestly hope we can have more interaction on friendlier terms in the future. I have accepted fault for the parts I think I am at fault for now it is up to you to decide what you wish to do about it. I will have no qualms if you push this further but ai would also like this to go no further obviously as I am the one at fault.
-
I see the issues you have and I will accept fault in the medical incident for almost ending up with him killed. The doctors did warn that he was not stable but I ignored them to get him back in a cell and away from people. I will accept fault in that part and I am sorry for that. If the doctors had said he would definitely die then I would have left him there or stayed with him but the doctors said he 'may' die. That is not an excuse however, I did gamble with his life for the sake of others and myself so I will accept this complaint. The other parts however, I will gladly fight because I do not think I did anything wrong with arresting or timing of brigging but with the medical issue I am at fault and I am sorry for that.
-
I'm sorry, truly I am for that but I was being rushed and things sounded urgent back at the brig so I had to make a snap decision that may have been wrong. I did ask for an officer to get to medbay so that they could keep watch over you while I do the other side of my job but nobody came after I waited for a while so I decided to get over there and take you with me because you had shown yourself to be very dangerous and I thought it best not to leave you alone with non-combatants. I do see where you are coming from with that though, that I sacrificed your potential health just to get somewhere else quicker and yes, that was wrong. So I am sorry for that but at the time I was not thinking clearly due to all the chaos that was happening.
-
Okay, I see where you are coming from but: 1) I did get you medical treatment, I just had to bring you back because you were a dangerous criminal and I was needed at the brig so I wasn't going to let you be un-monitored around civilians. 2) Nobody forced me to get you help, the shuttle was on the way and things had calmed down so I could put my full attention on you rather than having to split it. 3) I was following the captains orders and the advice of the officer who arrested you to give you said charges. You also were shouting it over comms so I could have easily given you a misuse of comms but I thought the slander charge was enough. 4) I never said you were a liar I said we had evidence to suggest otherwise as I had previously gotten a PDA message from the chaplain before she left you in there which I had told the officers to watch you for so I was obviously more inclined to take her side because she had contacted before it all went down. 5) I said I would investigate her once you had served your time which ended up with her having a warrant on her but other things got in the way of enacting it which was not my fault as I do not make the arrests. I'm sorry you feel this way, it was not my intent but I was acting in a way I that I should, following the captain's orders and eventually the HOS's orders which I am supposed to do. If you wish to dispute this please reply, putting an argument against my points.

I trust they could play an unthinking, unfeeling machine very well. All they have to do is stop RPing as someone else and be themselves. But in all seriousness, I do genuinely think Annika is a good character and that Lo is a good RPer so I'd trust them with a shell. +1 -

Ohh ohh! I can help with this one! interacted with Leonce quite a bit, he's a good HOP. Not too serious not too uptight. He does the job and he does it well. Based on the style he plays Leonce I think he'd be good as a Skrell. +1 -
Just finished a round with huff, didn't get much interaction before he was brigged (none at all) but while I was keeping watch over him he did a good job of not only making it enjoyable but also playing the batshit insane character without making it too over the top or irritating to handle. I'd give him a +1 based on that round alone.

Shadowgabe23's Tajara App Attempt 3
calion12 replied to ShadowGabe23's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I played a few rounds with Ackin, he plays it fairly well. Never seen his other two though. On RP alone, I'd give him a +1 and from what I know about Taj lore, he has displayed parts decently but obviously that part's not for me to decide. I do feel that he can be trusted with an alien race as he has shown that he can adapt well with his Unathi. -
BYOND key: Calion12 Character names: Vieniamin Sokolov, Jeice Alder, Fideal Al'Majoree,Cassimir Dan'Hanna, Nafisha Hirron, Lejila Sy'vactiir How long have you been playing on Aurora?: total, about a year to year and a half Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: The character I put forward used to be a colonel in the liberation army and as such has experience with command. Why did you come to Aurora?: It was similar to another server I used to play that got closed down. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Putting yourself into the head and mind of another character that you are trying to portray including speaking as they would and reacting to things as they would. This means putting personal feelings and personality aside in order to honestly portray your desired character which allows you to make friends and enemies for one character while not knowing them in another. This allows a lot of freedom in terms of how you play and act. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: to provide their department with direction and order so they can operate smoothly and efficiently while not infringing on other command staff's orders or departments. They do this by listening to the complaints of their department and defusing any infighting to keep things running at maximum efficiency and keeping everyone as happy as they can in order to allow people to feel safe and secure under the head's guidance and advice. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Provide explanations and guidance to people who are new to the game while ICly teaching them skills they need to know for their jobs and pointing out where they could improve. I will do this by answering OOC questions that they have and IC ones that they ask, helping their characters to advance in depth and complexity. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Vieniamin Sokolov Character age: 32 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Grew up on Adhomai with only a father as his mother had died during birth. He was taught as many things as he could by his father but was limited due to his father's military past. He took a shining to the arts and literary works which earned his father's ire. During the second civil war his father died due to an artillery shell misfire. He turned to religion after that, trying to look for a meaning in that tragedy. He was an average child when it came to grades, nothing too good or too bad but enough to pass without much issue. His human teacher urged him to further pursue education and arts but he turned away from this. He instead chose to keep his father's legacy alive and so joined up with the People's republic of Adhomai where he served for six years making it to colonel rank before leaving due to an incident that got his entire platoon killed due to him underestimating the enemy force. He went to sign up with Nano-Transen and became an officer. As an officer, he stuck to what he knew, observing the situation and sticking to the rules, never deviating unless they were extreme circumstances where lived hinged on his decisions. He did not want any more people to die as a result of his choices. He decided to head back to further pursue education in Law and military strategy and tactics so that he could become a head of security to ensure nobody else had to die or, if they did, that it would be his fault and his fault alone so that nobody else had to shoulder the burden of knowing people died as a result of them. He ended up getting a bachelor's degree in law and a master's in tactics. He has now returned NT in hopes of this promotion. What do you like about this character?: He is very caring in that he does not want others to experience the terrible things he has had to experience. When he falls short, he tries to better himself by studying so he does not have to face it again in the future. What do you dislike about this character?: He did turn tail and flee when he made his first mistake on Adhomai and he could be very self-centred, taking on every responsibility he can. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He has experience with command already from his service on Adhomai and he would know tactics that would come in handy while operating a corporate security team. He enjoys working with people and is generally friendly which would prove useful for earning respect of the department and diffusing internal argument. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10 because I can sometimes slip out of character if I have a brain-fart moment or haven't decided on a character trait yet. Extra notes: none

BYOND Key: Calion12 Character Names: Cheryl Schafer, Nara Crucitious (mains) Species you are applying to play: M'sai Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): White (perhaps an off-white to snow-white) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I enjoy the prospect of playing a hardy race who have adapted to their naturally cold climate and even excelled in working around problems that would occur with a freezing climate such as the combustion that propels automobiles not providing enough energy in 2012 CE or food freezing before consumption. I enjoy their craftiness and guerrilla style of combat in using the environment to their advantage during war, skirmishes and one would assume, even escape. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Their clan like system for one, makes it easier for them to type cast others and be judged by the colour of their fur. This was especially evident pre-human discovery in 2418 CE when they had the slave-like peasantry caste of Hharar and Zhan-Khazan and then the nobility sitting at the top as the Njarir'Akhran. This reflects their less advanced state when comparison with humans and brings to mind the obvious comparison of slavery America. Obviously, as humans did, the Tajara did advance past this with only slightly more violence than us humans. Even the most idealistic of Tajara are not adverse to violence, no more so is this evident than 2420 CE, a group of Tajara idealists sought refuge in Sol where they saw life as it should be and decided that the only way to win this for themselves was to stage a coup. Even turning the unwavering M'sai against their Njarir'Akhran masters, not overtly obviously, preferring secret summits and meetings. This mass turning against the nobility would obviously leave relations even to the character's generation a little shaky. Character Name: Vieniamin Sokolov Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Born in the freezing winds of Adhomai, Vieniamin's mother died in childbirth. His father, not knowing much except for military life, did his best to raise a decent, well-rounded son. This was no easy feat for a man having suffered through the horrors of D'as'ral Massacre and the siege on Hadii Castle but, nonetheless, he taught his little cub how to stalk and skulk around in the darkness, how to cook food quickly to ensure it won't freeze before it is ready. Trying to keep his only child away from the atrocities of rebellions, he introduced Vien to the musical arts. Feeling a connection with the arts, Sokolov spent some time partaking in performances at the theatre in his village. Alas, this seems it was not to be as the village was on the fringes of the republic of Adhomai and the Adhomai liberation army controlled land, frequent fire-fights took place near his very village as the hills provided great cover. Wanting to expand his knowledge, he started looking through books, starting off by thumbing through whatever picture books he could scavenge and eventually being able to read short historical texts. This did not sit well with his father who, when he found out, made an example to the small child by picking up his first book he had ever read properly and burning it in a great bonfire stacked with all sorts of other literary works from a recently discovered underground library. He was sent to a general school not long after this event while his father went back on duty. He never came back after that. His father's old age must have gotten to him after seeing the assassination of Rhagrrhuzau Hadii by the hand of a Zhan-Khazan no less. The endless infighting must have gotten to him, made him weary. The Liberation Army claimed he was hit by a stray shell from an artillery cannon. Despite the cruel act his father had carried out not too long ago, this news understandably shook the young Tajara who became somewhat reclusive afterwards. He turned to religion for the first time in his recollection, preferring ma'ta'ke over the S'rand'marr beliefs of his many peers. He moved to Nal'Tor and relished his teachings, attending a school at the heart of the city with a Terran teacher who obviously loved the deep-seeded history of the planet and the culture of it's many people and so she had no problem putting her enthusiasm into her teachings which, by proxy, made the students more interested in learning as a result. After learning the things his father tried to shelter him from; the real body count of the first uprising, a some 132 million people that his father played no small part in ruining the lives of, the forming of the people's republic of Adhomai, the human involvement and why they had their stake in the planet Vien called home. At the end of the day, he didn't matter, all that mattered to anyone was the resources his planet held and how to aquire the majority of it. He decided, he wanted to be something more, do something that mattered. Throwing out all his father had tried to do for him as his father had thrown out his passion for literature, Vien decided to join up with the Liberation Army Of Adhomai and fight for the people. He bid adieu to his three friends and left to sign up with the army, keeping his intentions a little vague from inquisitive Republicans. He served several successful years in the force, gaining respect from his superiors and his piers, securing areas for the free folk and making his way up the ranks. He discovered he was quite the tactician, preferring to rally the troops and come up with devious plans rather than fling thousands of his brothers and sisters in arms at the enemy and hope for the best. All was looking up for him, he had even managed to fortify his home village to the point that it was only re-captured every other week. All good things must come to an end though as did Vien's days in the force. His platoon was running low on troops, he decided to personally lead his men into battle. He had made a crucial error in his plan of attack; the mountains. The enemy force had set up a decoy squad in an open field, they were mowed down easily enough and as Vien sent his men to secure the surrounding area, the telltale and terrifying thump of an area denial bombardment sounded through the mountains. He ordered a full retreat but his forces were cut off by the bulk of the enemy force. Resigning to his fate, he flung his weapon at the nearest enemy soldier before being caught on the edge of an artillery shell's blast. When he awoke he was in a medical ward, fortunately one he recognised. He had been saved after he blacked out, the enemy hadn't planned to need more than one bombardment of shells so the surviving men easily overwhelmed the ground force. Unfortunately, most of the men under his command scummed to their wounds in the very medical ward he was in. Unable to take this, he left the army and booked first passage off of Adhomai as a whole. He didn't know where he would go but upon speaking to some of the other passengers, heard of a human controlled company called NT. His teacher mentioned them in the lessons he had, they didn't seem too nice but it would make a nice change all this senseless death... Right? What do you like about this character? He has a sort of poetic justice to him, joining the one fight his father wanted him to stay away from then being put out of commission by the very thing that put his father down. It might not be too original or very subtle but I like it. I also like the fact that he keeps going and keeps fighting for what he believes in which, again, ends in his ultimate leave from the fight he had taken on as his own. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Out of ten, around 6-7 but I'm biased one way or another so I may not be too reliable of a source. Notes: Briefly played a Tajara on a different server although, they used different lore.

BYOND Key: Calion12 Character Names: Cheryl Schafer, Nara Crucitious (Mains) Species you are applying to play: Tajara (M'sai preferably) What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Some form of White Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Kitties! But in all seriousness they are a hardy race, having to survive on the biting cold of Adhomai plus their 'Caste'like system of their ethnicities makes them interesting in that they are more likely to judge on appearance than most other races. They would also be more likely to kick off were they from a peasant lineage in the presence of a goading Njarir’Akhran. They may be adverse to weapons of mass destruction or genocidal solutions to problems after blowing their own planet into a permanent nuclear winter. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They are less likely to keep opinions to themselves about what they think of a person on first glance due to their caste upbringing and their bond to their clan is deeper than human friendships. Not to mention the rolling Rs and third person referencing of oneself and respect for blood lineage. Playing a sec character from one of the peasant descended and having to remain civil to a Njarir’Akhran descended would be agonising to them and could lead to some interesting RP (sorry for the exposition dump, I'm not very good at working it in) Character Name:Vieniamin Sokolov Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Born in the freezing winds of Adhomai, Vieniamin's mother died in childbirth. His father, not knowing much except for military life, did his best to raise a decent, well-rounded son. He taught him how to stalk and skulk around in the darkness, how to cook food quickly to ensure it won't freeze before it is ready and tried to introduce him to musical arts. This did not sit well with his father who, when he found out, made an example to the small child by picking up his first book he had ever read properly and burning it in a great bonfire stacked with all sorts of various 'propaganda' of the masters. He was sent to a general school not long after this event while his father went back on duty. He never came back after that, saying he was hit by a stray shell from an artillery cannon. Despite the cruel act his father had carried out not too long ago, this news understandably shook the young Tajara who became somewhat reclusive afterwards. He turned to religion for the first time in his recollection, preferring ma'ta'ke over the old S'rand'marr beliefs. He relished his teachings, attending a school near the capital with a Terran teacher who obviously regretted her decision to teach on such a barren waste. He graduated from high school only to sign up with the Adhomai military. He decided to take up arms for the common folk but faced discrimination among the low-ranks due to his M'sai heritage. He became used to the handling of bolt-action ballistic weaponry while being put off by energy based weaponry due to their inefficiency when compared to the tried and tested ballistic based firearms. He did not like taking orders, his father had taught him to hate anyone who gave orders 'like the masters did' but he followed them nonetheless. Every night, he walked past a dorm of Tajara from peasant descended lineage who glared daggers through him, obviously too blinded by their hate to notice he himself was no Njarir’Akhran. He had no love for the self proclaimed rulers but did not despise them as the peasant descended did. He soon left, feeling too out of place among the exemplars and poor. He decided he wanted to experience life outside of all this conflinct and needless bloodshed, so turned his eyes to upholding the law and keeping the peace instead of breaking it at one of Nano-Transen's space stations. What do you like about this character? He walks the line between poor and rich while looking out for the common folk, not berating them and claiming his superiority. he came from a past of violence but now seeks to stop others from treading the same path he took. How would you rate your role-playing ability? On a scale of 1-10? I'd say 6-7 but I'm obviously biased to some degree so I'd ask you reading this, how would you rate me? Notes: Played a Tajara briefly on another station quite a while ago

I have played several rounds with Assim. Some of my characters have been friends, some have been foes. He plays both very admirably, idly chatting despite the station going to hell, I think, shows the courage (or stupidity) of the character. One particular round One of my characters had pissed him off, he seemingly wanted to 'throw down' with her, job be damned as he was caught in the moment which I consider a job well bloody done. Plus one from me if I may. -

Haven't really played many rounds with any of your characters but The most recent one, we rev'd together and it was one of the most fun rounds I have ever played. You handled a hostage situation with amazing detail and gave realistic demands, didn't just murder everyone in sight. plus 1 if my opinion counts for anything.
