Okay so I pitched this idea to ForgottenTraveller and he wanted me to put it here to see what you all thought. Essentially, either in the IC forum section, or maybe a new place that's public like in the Central Command area, people that have Internal Affairs characters could setup an 'office' for said character. Essentially, an office could be either a CCIA-formatted thing, so there is minimal customization for people, just to help keep things standardized -- or it could be completely up to the player how to make it look, but would have to list some basic required details. The point of said office would be to provide this player/their IAA Character a location to take on long-term investigations, for example: X Crewmember is a really 'bad' crew member, anti-NT, rude, the whole shebam. Station Command is too busy to handle them in round, and the hapless Y Crewmember doesn't have the right role or resources to gather enough info to file a decent incident report. So, Y Crewmember goes onto the forums, and finds 'Internal Affairs Office: Agent Zion Thrusk' , they make a post there requesting to be contacted by the Agent to help file a report. Agent Thrusk then PMs/Discords/ByondPMs Y Crewmember in an IC format, and they have a short discussion on the situation. Agent Thrusk then contacts the player of X Crewmember to ask if they were antag in any of the previous rounds listed, and then contacts CCIA to tell them that he is opening up an extended investigation of X Crewmember. Agent Thrusk then joins whenever he wants to when X Crewmember is onboard, and can continue his investigation over multiple rounds. After gathering all the information necessary, Agent Thrusk either files the IR on behalf of Y Crewmember, or advises Y Crewmember that there is not reasonable evidence to file an IR. Essentially, this would help serve as a filter making sure that CCIA only see IRs that have been heavily reviewed first (although this would 100% be an optional path for crew to take, not mandatory for them to do before filing an IR), as well as give current IAAs a better feeling of permanence. It could also serve as a resolution system for issues that are too small for CCIA to step into, but annoying enough to bother crew. To ensure no abuse happens on the IAAs part, there could be some simple rules: - CCIA must be informed when a long-term investigation starts - The player being investigated must confirm their actions were not antag related - The IA Agent must keep all records in an easily shareable format (google docs?) so that CCIA can view them if needed

NO. Not until our present lag issues are fixed, lighting is notoriously satanic for causing lag issues for a lot of people and until our server is back to being less laggy this will kill us.

I think the maidborg fits a LOT better than a lot of the new sprites...

Give CMO's the ability to lock morgue-tray's hard
Azande replied to Fire and Glory's topic in Archive
Not how it works, if the Captain looked at his own corpse, not only would be he violating corporate policy, but the CMO would then have justifiable reason to relieve him of command immediately, until a psych eval could take place to determine his sanity. -
uh none of the new sprites 'fit', they all look awkward as hell compared to everything else. As well, if we're getting rid of this can we get rid of the slutty nurse dress and hat too?
-
Due to the nature of the character, his questioned knowledge will be reflected in his skill sheet for administration reference, but not in his IC records.

BYOND Key: XanderDox Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: Serveris Reason of Ban: Reason for Appeal: I will take what you said into consideration for my future characters and I apologize for becoming snarky when trying to have a dialogue with you on why I believed what you were doing was wrong.
-
I welcome anyone that has anymore issues with me to open a proper dialogue in which if you will not be rude and swear then I will not be rude and swear. If you have concerns with my Captain character, then I implore you to contact me about them so we can get to the root of it, I do heavily encourage people discuss my characters with me, and try to get to know them ICly so you can actually see they're different from an IC point of view. This whole 'Xander's characters are the same!' meme is getting uncomfortably old and to see Server Staff start repeating it is quite disheartening, especially when I know none of them have tried to have in game, private conversations or RP with my character. Thank you for the resolution on this complaint @Garn @Tish. I am awaiting some sort of group chat with you or something about my conduct and such. Addendum: I do apologize for ruining anyone's rounds, because that is obviously not my intention ever when I join a round or am actively playing. I will try to make sure that OOC considerations do hold a stronger place in my decision making IC, which is an area I do admit I lack, as I tend to look at things strictly ICly.
-
But I've also received various compliments on my Head of Staff play, in fact in that round itself that the complaint is targetting, two people said they agreed with me and liked what I was doing. Just want to remind everyone that I am not completely a terrible Head of Staff And that I actively do things to try and give the crew fun things to do and leeway whenever I can as long we they're within regulations.
-
Heads are players too. there is not, or should not be any expectation for a Head of Staff Whitelistee to break character and sacrifice their own enjoyment, just so sub-par antags can do their sub-par gimmick. I'm sorry but that's 100% my view. If you make a gimmick in which you give the crew two options, 1. Give the IPC back or 2. Refuse to return the IPC, don't be surprised when they fucking choose. But my Captain is not going to refuse the heavily armed paramilitary at his doorstep when they ask for their walking talking toaster back that he has NO legal or character obligations to protect. NanoTrasen would not suffer from this, why? Because it's not fucking their problem. At all. If this is just going to be the same people asking me the same question again and again, then I'll request this complaint is closed because I've given my answers.
-
So bassicly you don't like the gimmick and that is why you shut it down? This type of behavior should not be coming from a Whitelisted player and it causes merc/hiest to go back to bombing and killing. No, it's not that I don't like it, it's that the gimmick was literal crap, poorly thought out and didn't take into account that maybe some characters have personal opinions on things. @TheRDThing Yeah, mostly my bad, but when you drew your gun it was originally set to lethal, whether you changed it or not, I didn't stick around to see, I grabbed the axe I had been using for most of the shift for spiders and high-tailed it to research. The virus was 100% beneficial and only caused slight twitching, and the reason I authorized it was because some idiot started randomly crushing a monkey's skull in departures. In terms of the spiders, well, they weren't meant to get out of hand.

And, in response to the claims that I override my Heads of Staff.. Yes, I do, not as often as people like to think, but I do. Most of the time, it's because the Head is doing something against policy, or what I would view as the goals of NanoTrasen. Again, if I have a Head of Staff for a department, the only time I speak over their communications is if: 1. They are inactive. 2. I need to reaffirm an order they have given in a more authoritative tone. 3. I need to override something they are saying. In terms of Security, you're right. My two captain characters do get involved in quite a few security situations, mostly because I rarely have an HoS. Jester is happy to go check out spider attacks with his Officers when there is no HoS, he has a gun, he can use it. He's also happy to handle a security related incident administratively, such as calling a vandal or petty thief into his office to reprimand them, rather than having security detain them. And there are times where Jester has, in very difficult situations, joined Security in armed conflicts for his station. At the point of a cult running around or mercs running around and murdering everyone, it is not very fun for me to sit in the bridge until one side dies, and then call a shuttle, I'm sorry it's just not. The drama increases if I either get captured, or injured or killed, because then we get to see how the station works without a leader, it's not a bad things, it's just a different avenue of RP that a lot of people seem to be afraid of.

???? 1. Learn to present your ideas better, I don't even know what round you're talking about because you cant. Fucking. Communicate. I do not terminate employment nor think that I can, I even have my own custom suspension notice form for when I do suspensions Exhibit A If this is one of the possible incidents Im thinking of, I asked to keep you at the brig because you were a dangerous offender, and all of the damage was to your eyes, it was not life threatening and someone just had to bring eye meds in a dropper to the brig to treat you, and in the end, I LISTENED to my CMO's professional opinion and let her take you. Your point is moot. And on the bottom note, yeah, I notice characters that cryo when I board, and while it's mildly upsetting to me, it's immature and ridiculous and honestly, I just don't care enough about what the fuck other people do in terms of that. If they want to leave, that's their prerogative.
-
Right. I'll respond to this specific incident simply. I am a player, I play command staff, I play for my own enjoyment, and I do so within character. Jester Stamos is an anti-synth kind of person. He views them as machines, tools, property, and it would be utterly shit roleplay for me to abandon my character completely, just to go along with an antaghugbox view that Jenna seems to have. NanoTrasen Employees and Internal Security are in no way, required to handle such situations. I wanted them off my station and gone because my captain wanted them off and gun, it is not my job to pick fights with antags, it is the job of the antagonist to pick fights with me. Yes, perhaps the media would have a hayday with the issue, but guess what? NanoTrasen is the largest. Fucking. Company. IN THE UNIVERSE. AND IT BASICALLY OWNS TAU CETI!!! The only kind of PR that would ever ruin it would be stuff that results in the loss of life. I standby everything my character said in that round.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other but I must support Pyro in this. As a head rev that round we opted for a peaceful protest in cargo, shutting down any cargo deliveries or mining, effectively seizing their means of production. To his defense some of the revs were armed with weapon BUT not visibly, most of the weapons were hidden away and were haphazardly constructed stuff such as Hatchets, kitchen knives and one I think had a katana. What suprised me when I, a heard rev wanted to speak to the captain, he agreed to my demands and told me to walk out of cargo and have a talk with him, I went, without a weapon or support and as I approached the captain to talk. He pulled out a baton and beat me down, if it were not for the revs looking out the window I would have probably been dragged away. This escalated the situation to massive levels as revs just ran out of cargo directly attacking the captain with whatever they could find, the rest of what Pyro described happened after that incident when we once again re-fortified in cargo. Also I think there were some issues with cyborgification of suspected revs? But take that with a grain of salt as I don't remember all the details. The shots were warning shots. The energy pistol is not going to kill anybody. As well, the weapons were visible, and your rev group ended up chasing me down the hallway with bats and handmade guns. So yes, they got batonned and shot. That is what happen when you corner a Captain with an angry mob with weapons. I have nothing to defend here. If I was a rev and acting like you were, I'd expect to get shot.

What is this? The Captain has always been a very interesting role, as their power and authority and how crew react to them using it is very fluid depending on their crew, the character that is the Captain and their relationships with other characters, and the player playing them. I was interested in three things when I came up with the idea for this conference: What does the general, non-whitelisted community think the Captain's role/authority is, and how should they use their powers?[ What does the Command Whitelisted community think the Captain's role/authority is, and how should they use their powers? How do these two sets of opinions differ? Essentially, this is the Conference area for the non-whitelisted community to discuss in, and a sister-post will be made in the Head of Staff Forum for Heads to use! Some guiding questions will be listed, but feel free to discuss whatever you wish about the IC and possibly OOC role of the Captain from your point of view, and some issues you may have with how Captains (DO NOT USE SPECIFIC NAMES/REFERENCES WITHOUT ASKING THE PLAYER FIRST, UNLESS ALL NAMES ARE REMOVED) are/have been played, also feel free to come up with your own questions for people to answer! If you are a Head of Staff Whitelistee, PLEASE DO NOT UTILIZE THIS POST FOR YOUR OPINIONS. It will conflict with the goal of comparison at the end of this. Head (yes that's a pun) here for our discussion area: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=7636 Guiding Questions If you were NanoTrasen, what would you make the job description of a Station Captain? What would necessary education/skills be? What areas of the station do you think the Captain has direct jurisdiction over? (I.e, possibly the bridge, his office, maybe the hallways) Do you think it should be easier for Heads to override the Captain in terms of their department? Or is his ultimate authority on everything good? Do you think it's okay for the Captain to hire 'Executive/Bridge Assistants' to help him in his work? What control over station finances should the Captain have? Should the Captain have to wear the provided uniform, or is formal wear (Like Jester's suit) okay?

The Story Thus-far For many decades, the Kingdom of Valencia has been strong. Under the careful but strong guidance of King Gweden, the humans, elves, dwarves and beastlings of the realm set aside their differences, and ended a civil war that had been tearing the country apart. Our story takes place 10 years following this bloody civil war, in the Barony of Ilvermory. Ilvermory was previously an economic powerhouse, home to rich spider-silks, and precious riches. But as times dragged on, it was forgotten. Its capital Fort Borealis, fell into disrepair. However, the King recently appointed a new Baron and Magistrate to oversee Ilvermory, and Borealis: Master Baron Mark Syion, and Lord Jamison Stamos. A mysterious and ever-strengthening merchants guild tightens it's hold on the royal family and nobility, a dark presence spreads across the land as nights begin dredging on longer and longer, the Barony is losing control over the province. With the aide of their mysterious but intelligent Chief Magi, and the people of Borealis, can the nobility make Ilvermory rise again? Major Figures in Valencia The Baron (Mark Syion) - The Baron is the un-challenged head of the county and fort, appointed directly by the King himself. He is responsible for organizing the overall direction of the fort, working with the Guild to maintain the economy, and ensuring that taxes are being brought in to maintain the noble coffers. The Magistrate (Jamison Stamos) - The Viscount serves at the pleasure of the Baron, and is his second in command. He has direct control over the Fortress Guard, and is the Judge and Jury when it comes to the execution of punishments. In the absence of the Baron, the Magistrate presumes full de facto command over the Barony and fort, except when a Baroness is in existence. The Chief Magi (Amaal Al-Haytham) - The Chief Magi is a scholar like no other, having studied all across Valencia for decades, and gathering vast knowledge. He is the chief adviser to the Baron, and is generally a feared and respected figure in the province. He is also responsible for healing the sick and injured of the fort. The Guildmaster of the VMS - The Guildmaster of the Valencian Merchants Society is the regional director of the VMS in the Barony. He oversees all trades within the province, and can get you almost anything, for a price. Don't let his smile, or wealth fool you however. The Guild bears no allegiance to any throne nor crown, only gold.
