Is there a chance, however small, that suggesting The Call and the Redcoats faction into this thread would help me bypass the indecisive lore developers?
-
Hello there! I know exactly how you feel. Been there, did that. For the records and so on, there's this handy thread http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=275 - having a template to work off makes the process a brazillion times easier. As for the RP - the only advice I can think of, identify with your character. Think realistically. Behave accordingly. ???? Profit. Hope you'll enjoy your stay with us!

~@GenericSmoker~ ~@WetSkrell.NT~ Somehow, that left me with more questions about the Skrell than I had before. #cannotunsee

Where the hell can I find the lore for this? This is the kind of stuff I want to read about!

I clearly remember Houssam being an IA Agent. Those are loyalty-implanted! Ban he!

Best guess - Birth of a Nation? Before you make any hasty judgements, they taught us about that movie for its revolutionary approach to filming. #Animator

"It's part of my character" is not a valid argument in any way. The character ought to be build with respect to the lore, and not the other way around. Doesn't that go without saying? Also, you're missing out on the best part; interacting with people from your home planet. I absolutely love meeting other Martians/Lunatics, whether it leads to chit-chating about specific places that are not part of the lore (schools, museums we visited, etc. that we basically make up on the spot) to making the game really awkward for people who decided they come from the planet, but didn't even bother to learn the capital's name. Either way, it can be a priceless helping hand in attempts at small talk - which I personally find the most difficult part of the game. My point being, giving up on your own planet may be desirable from your standpoint, too; you'll soon find very few people care to listen silently through yet another snowflakey backstory. A more casual one allows for interaction.

~@GenericSmoker~ @TonyAdams Headache, hearing noices -possibly voices-, continuous depressions, is constantly under stress... my dear Tony, why, you have tinnitus! Too bad the only somewhat effective treatment is what you are already signed up for.

StarMade: Like Minecraft, but in SPAAAAAAAAAAACE
Rechkalov replied to Kerbal22's topic in Other Games
I'm afraid you have like 5% chance of getting it to run, then. :c It's a damn shame. It has some badass RP servers. -

You wouldn't happen to have an Intel card, eh? -
Doesn't count, Tina requires hugs from her subordinates on daily basis and threatens to kill herself if they don't comply. Too soon?

Daniela Baranova had received a hug from Phoebe Essel.

First of all, I didn't exactly mean self-antaging, chucklefucking baldhead. The remark was merely composed that way because I was under the impression that players who 'have fun together' instead of 'doing their jobs' are generally blamed. So, I was rather referring to the people who tend to form seemingly closed circles. (which from my experience is often harsh, since I can clearly remember chars like Kaekel or Swamantha asking random passer-bys to join their activities on the holodeck. The same thing for which I have received criticism - when I had that infamous jousting match - I made a public announcement, asking anybody to join.) Well, I guess there are two points I'd like to make on this topic. First of all, I think it should be taken into account that certain professions are less likely to get 'popular'. In fact, there appears to be a certain pattern, or curve, as in - the more your designated profession interacts with game mechanics, the less likely are you to get to socialize, and vice versa. While doing your job as an atmos is difficult beyond my imagination, I still think it isn't entirely fair to claim to be putting in the same efforts as succesful, popular priests or journalists. There are no baywikis for that. So, that should be taken into consideration when you join in. Perhaps it's because I mostly play a psych and CSI, but I've never come into contact with engineers, unless they were needed - and in such times, there's little time for chit-chat. (same applies to scientists - and security... well, they interact with people, but... REDSHIRTS! SHITCURITY!) The other thing would probably be - I understand that you've had a real bad round where you literally didn't find into anybody; I've had such, too, and I understand how off-putting it can be. But do you really insist it would be the same if the server was slightly more populated? And if so - what would you have us do, really? What do you propose? Should we all gather around because 'that's Scopes' character'? Again, I don't intend to be mean, but I really fail to see how this could reach any constructive conclusion. Edit: Perhaps it is in place to point out the difference between making people feel welcome and actively and continually devoting attention to others' characters - the first implying being nice and willing to respond to people if they reach out to you, the second implying that you constantly look out for people who might be lonely and reach out to them. Edit no.2: And perhaps it is not the place, and I am making matters even worse.

Everybody feels that way from time to time. Everybody sometimes happens to be on a shift with nobody he really knows, and with people who already know each other and are preoccupied with their friends. However, I insist it is not the reponsibility of other players to go out of their way, reach out to you, and make you feel at home. Come on. Life doesn't work like that. Every one of us certainly entered a collective new to us at one point or another, be it job or class, that was already estabilished and running, and the best we get is the teacher/boss saying "Fellas, say hi to Bob." While I suppose I am in all likelihood one of the 'villains' of the situation at hand, I've worked hard to get to the point where I get to chucklefuck around, jousting in wheelchairs, instead of being just another sad sob sitting at their designated position with nobody to talk to. I'm not entirely sure how I did it, but... it wasn't by waiting for others' to reach out to me. My point being: RP activity. Activity shows. It attracts attention.

Oh boy, I want to be up there with the real roleplayers. Rechkalov Daniela Baranova - 'the misery chick' that is absurdly hard to reach, and has enough complexes to put all her patients combined to shame. Erich Bluthgeld - the old fella who does that weird thing with 'his mechanical eyes whirring as he adjusts the lenses'. Lenina Baranova - the living, walking embodiment of the "I've spent my life in my 's shadow" stereotype that everybody talks to only about Daniela. Casimir Kaipov - KAIPOV IT'S YOUR COUSIN LET'S GO BOWLING

+1 While I've never interacted with any of Jboy's characters so much as to make a progress worth noting across a greater time period, and so it could be argued I don't really know them/his abilities all that well, I've still met a great number of them - and, up until this moment, I would never have suspected them to all be the creation of the same person. They all have very distinct personalities and, more importantly, they are absolutely unlike one another. If that doesn't make Jboy an RPer capable of being a fantastic and intriguing head, then... I really don't know what else you could possibly ask from a man.

This is awesome. All of my spess yes.

Enkas' Head of staff application.
Rechkalov replied to enkas's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
+1 Enkas makes a point of doing what I consider the 'highest' roleplay; specifically, he conveys the imagine of absolutely ordinary people in his characters, and manages to make them interesting in similarly ordinary way. In other words, his characters and "playstyle" both are most mature and he is by no means prone to consider himself and his chars the centerpoint of the whole damn universe, let alone to use far-fetched means to bring attention to himself - which, I've come to notice, is quite an issue with some of the other heads. I could continue, but I won't, because I doubt it is necessary in Enkas' case. 10/10 would upvote again. -
[Denied]moom's application type thing for dead brother gifts

...for what's it worth, you can use the hand-labeller to give it some unique name, if nothing else. In order to bring attention to it. -
Err, admittedly, I produced the report after another session.
-
Well, you know we exchanged a few words about it in-game, and finding your explanation satisfactory, I didn't dig any further into it. So there's that. Then again, just because you don't view it as offensive anymore doesn't mean that the others feel the same way.

This is brilliant. Wait... we are being serious? Very well, then - I haven't seen much of Giurifiglio in the role of CMO, but I can't deny that the glimpses of him that I caught were accompanied by great number of vulgarisms, to the point where I was suspicious to what extend it was the player's portrayal of Vittorio's character, and to what extend it was the player's inability to write a sentence without a "fuck" in it. On the other issue - that of racism - yes. I believe that absolutely belongs in the game and does spice it up, if done properly (I'm not making any judgements of Tytos' approach, I've never noticed these tendencies, myself). Although OOCly the CMO's role is to be somewhat of a moderator of his department, to a certain degree, I think we can all agree that in real life (or at least ICly), bosses are still just people, and there's a great number of pricks among them. Having a rasist head is just as fine with me as having a racist janitor. Which is not to discourage in-game action against him, such as this investigation. That's awesome. Also kind of the point of having a racist character.

Perhaps I expressed myself poorly - I do that a lot. By "condemning the community", I rather reffered to the possibility of your co-existence with the community. Anyhow, I think that admitting to yourself that you are an average player is a very good step to becoming a much better one. As if it put some distance between you and your character, and allowed you to see the bigger picture - I mean, usually, the bad RPing is that in which people more or less act as if their spessmen were the protagonists... aaand I'm getting carried away. I'm gonna stop talking now. Just glad to hear you're not upset. That'd be a shame. If that was ever to happen, though, just say this mantra aloud to yourself: "my feelings are hurt because of what some complete stranger wrote to me on the internet"
