StarMade: Like Minecraft, but in SPAAAAAAAAAAACE
Rechkalov replied to Kerbal22's topic in Other Games
*clears his throat* Alright, we're not getting anywhere, are we? I was originally going to propose the Eternia server, with which I have had very good experience and which reminds me of Aurora in a few ways, but it would seem they have shut down since the last time I was around. So! Here's a link of roleplay servers within Starmade. https://starmade-servers.com/tag/roleplay/ Let's have a vote! (above all, I feel I must stress the need for us to join a whitelisted server - there's much more room for creativity. Only your homebases are invulnerable, but on such servers, you can freely build whole series of refueling stations and outposts and whatnot without fearing that some chucklefucker will come along, blast them to kingdom come and log off, never to be seen again) -
+1 I've commented on this topic many times before, and feel like I don't have much to add. Possibly only that, aside from slowing natural healing down, I would like to raise the 'line' after which natural healing doesn't occur, so that any injuries worse than mere papercuts are actually injuries; there have been way too many cases in which potential for good wounded RP had been passed because of that. And way too many people lived.

StarMade: Like Minecraft, but in SPAAAAAAAAAAACE

...or we could join an already existing, highly populated RP-heavy server, and make an Aurora faction. Wink wink! -
We just have to pick the right topics, then. For one, people have radically different opinions on whether synthetics can develop consciousness. A situation in which, let's say, synthetics would be scrapped or sacrificed for the good of the rest, on the presumption that 'they are but tools', would definitely spark huge conflict among the crew. It had in the past.

Daniela's giggle soon turned into a cough, and she covered her mouth with the back of her hand. She took a few deep breaths, before shifting her attention back to Android. "Yes, it's me. I'm not there, physically - nor have I found you, really. You must have accidentally broken into the AskMe service," she said, regarding the robot anxiously, trying to memorize every and all of its features. Her lip quivered a bit. "...my, it's been so long... how have you been, Andy?"
-
I don't think there necessarily needs to be a head of the mutineers. In fact, I would advise against it - it feels like a step back. Without one, people feeling strongly against whatever idea is being executed aboard (and if the seeds for the conflict will be of similar nature as the one presented here, there'll be lots of them) will have to take initiative themselves, which should prove way more interesting and entertaining. Edit: Not that, in such a situation, even if a bunch of 'mutineers' gathers, there will still be the need for somebody to take the lead - hence, it is likely that another conflict entirely will spark up, that for the dominant position within the group; possibly ending up even more divided, because while sharing a cause, they may not agree on the methods. I honestly think that this scenario has greater chances of success (rp-wise) than one with a leading figure already present.
-
This is exactly what I longed for - a scenario which creates conflict between people on the grounds of their opinions and convictions, rather than by their departments (that is, Security X rest of the world). Please, do make this a thing.

The application makes a quiet beeping sound as another live-feed panel opens up. The resolution is poor and the camera is shaky, suggesting a smaller, hand-held device. At first, while the camera is still adjusting, it's hard to make sense of whatever is on the screen; there's a lot of smoke in the air, through which walls covered in dirty tiles appear - a small room, no larger than 3x3 meters, with a small window up high, barred from the outside. Somebody moves into the picture - a woman, in a hospital-issue pajamas, with an old, withered poppy sticking out of the pocket on her chest. She moves a lock of unwashed, fiery hair from her face several times before finally convincing it to stay put behind her ear, then proceeds to light a cigarette with the still-burning butt of the previous one. A short period of silence follows, during which she closes her eyes and exhales a cloud of smoke, before at last focusing her gaze on the camera. With a faint, exhausted smile, she greets the robot. "Hello, Andy."

He propped himself on his elbows, and ran a hand through his hair, sweeping them back from his face - the gesture came to him naturally, a force of habit, and triggered something within his mind. Stockstill. I'm Andrew Stockstill.

The sass present was not undermining Dea's authority. It was but a one, silly remark. Demanding an apology for this is ridiculous. It is no longer about respect, it's about pride. What Dea could be interpreted as unnecessary display of his "power" as a member of the staff. The apology would have possibly been in place before Dea made his move, but certainly not after that. Respect is earned, not demanded. Good players are well known and respected for their outstanding RP. The respect comes from their ability. Good staff members have earned respect in very similar way. It's rational authority. We are more likely to listen to somebody we respect as a person and look up to, than to somebody who just happens to have different font color in OOC. Assuming the respect is tied to your position within Aurora's community divides us into casts and creates tension. It is counterproductive - unless I am wrong in assuming that, above all, we are all people who came here with the same intention; to make the game interesting. While the amounts of energy put into that cause may vary from person the person, much like their influence over the general outcome, our aim is the same, and we -or so I thought- are here to have fun together.
-
I would highly recommend composing your records on the forums. The game probably won't accept PDA formatting, either.
-
I very much doubt that the violation of the OOC rules would continue after that remark; and I am convinced that the remark itself was meant to amuse, perhaps tease, but not to insult. There is no hostility behind it. I refuse to believe that you could actually not see that. Matter of fact, I am quite horrified that so many of you would feel so strongly in favor of the mute in such trivial matter.
-
With regard to that, and one other issue, I've already reached out to you via PM.

Nicely done! It holds together well - my only objection would be an 'aesthetic' one, that is, the actual records themselves could use some sort of... how do you call it... well, just a point or a "-" in front of each entry, it can be a bit hard to look at. Otherwise, it's great and it works! And I absolutely like the number of times he failed his psych evals. It made me chuckle, and it does add to his character. *clap clap clap*

They should be compatible with clothing, as far as I can tell (though, admittedly, they look sorta ridiculous) And, while slightly taller than the human sprites, they are still within 32x32 frames. Then again, I don't know a thing about the inner workings of SS13, so maybe that is too much. As for the back/left/right sprites -

Isn't this somewhat similar (pretty much identical) to that jacket of DeWitt's? I don't know how that turned out, so pardon me if this sort of topic was closed already, but the arguments ran along the lines of NanoTransen requiring its personnel to wear uniforms, and would likely not stand for their people to run around in admittedly swaggy, but nonetheless personal clothing items.

Felix Tainalov has a disturbance in the gluttony-syndrome area. As a result, he compensates for stress by eating ridiculous amounts of candy.

I've quickly looked over the discussion, and noticed that you were questioning what purpouse, justification, if you will, would there be for a hive member to work aboard Aurora - I didn't read all of the comments, so if you had figured that out, feel free to disregard this altogether, I would just like to propose a perspective. I expect you aren't familiar with Ondřej Neff's writing, so I'll try to briefly sum up a character from one of his books - it's more of a body than a character, a race that is literally one collective mind. Its drones are absolutely expendable, and join the other races in their doings purely with the intention of giving them a hand, very often at the cost of the drone itself; I'm not sure if I am getting the point across. That entity has no real interest in the business itself, merely in assisting members of the species its fond of. Where I am going with this; Va'tramra'av drones aboard Aurora could be perceived as more of a diplomatical, political move than the drone's personal interest in the station's business. The drone may not give a damn, and its job aboard our station might be, in the long run, rather insignificant for the hive, but the drone serves its hive by its presence already; its being there is a sign of good will for peaceful coexistence. There. Your motivation for the drone's presence. The Queen wishes to make friends with NT. The hive could possibly spare a few workers, where the other races are usually extremely sensitive over each and every one of their people. Not to mention that they would probably have trouble comprehending the other cultures, and insight acquired this way could prove extremely valuable.

Right. I bloody love Formics insect races in sci-fi. I couldn't resist taking a shot at this. With and without that outline that seems to be characteristic for SS13, but which I simply cannot bring myself to like.

The ability to bind bundles (and other little library stuff)
Rechkalov replied to witchbells's topic in Archive
Please. Yes. To all of this. One-page books are so frustrating 2002 dumb. So is printing the same book five times to get your prefered cover. And the library has so much potential! On another note, you can actually rename the bookshelves with the pen. -

Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): University Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): 01NOV2375 Region of Space: Sol System, Mars (Sol IV); Nova Concordia Controlled by Founded by: Ragle Quarles, Anthony Westerburg Background information: The idea of founding a school actually didn't originate with Quarles himself, but with Anthony Westerburg, a 'small-time richman' who appreciated Ragle's ideals wholeheartedly, and abandoned his enterprises in order to provide Quarles with an opportunity to spread them more effectively. Description: Quarles' School of Critical Thought focuses on educating psychoanalysts, and differs in doing so from 'conventional' universities in more than one way; Quarles was convinced that there is no such thing as 'ill will' or a man 'psychologically sick beyond cure'; rather, he believed that every man's will was naturally good, and any bitterness or viciousness originated from continuous frustration of the said good intentions. For Quarles, treating patients wasn't about diagnosing their illness and doping and/or conditioning them to the point where they could function normally, or at least meant no harm to others; rather it was a search for that initial good, creative impulse, and his quest was to bring it back into the man's focus. That being said, for psychoanalysts following his teachings the task began where the conventional psychologist found a closure. Giving up on patients is unthinkable for followers of Quarles' theories. Above all, he related man's sanity to his happiness in times where it was generally being related to their ability to perform their function within society. His methods were meant to free his patients of any and all deep-rooted influence from any form of irrational authority and irrational values - to elaborate, of any values that were taught to them by their society/religion/age etc., and encouraged his patients in finding their own, personal values, ones that would benefit their mental state as well as general well being. In his last will, Anthony Westerburg transfered all his monetary possesions to the University; in our day, it persists solely on donations from various sources. Because of the unstable and unreliable incomes, the University cannot offer to accept more than a couple of students each year - on the other hand, that resulted in extremely high standards for its applicants, and the graduates are generally considered experts in the field.

It was not intended as an insult - I apologize if it came off as one. Senpai: Very well! For the corporations tab - I believe the Interstellar Aid Corps and Apex & Ft Sunder Joint Military Academies would belong there?
