This is an "i died pls nerf" suggestion. I saw the round that probably inspired this suggestion and of course you lost your knife. You fucked up a kidnap and got cornered and spammed. You should have walked away from that thinking about how you could not mess up a kidnap so badly the next time, not going to suggestions and asking to have the feature that stopped you basically removed. It is far lower than 50/50, you just put yourself in a position where it was going to happen regardless of chance. There is no reason disarm shouldn't have worked in this situation, and to nerf it to where spamming it for that long WOULDN'T have gotten you taken down would make it absolutely useless. No, a knife you can make out of a couple sheets of metal (or any material almost) should not make you as unstoppable as you're asking. Making knives "realistic" would mean almost anyone would be able to pull a jail yard rush and win easily. There is 'no advantage' to knives? Aside from the part about how quickly they kill people? What else do they need? You had that AND cult shit on your side, the idea of nerfing and making people even more powerless to stop you (as they should have been in the first place) is ridiculous. Don't lose your victim next time. No, knives and roboticists are being brought up in specific because OP tried to kidnap someone as cultist last night, fucked up and let the victim get away with his headset to call for help, and a roboticist happened to be the first one to look in on it because it was right across from their maintenance door. They pretty much just disarmed OP and pushed them into a corner for a few seconds until Security showed up and arrested them. An easily avoidable situation that doesn't mean disarming needs nerfs.

I was digging through chamkit suit appearances and I found the old Security Officer's Jacket which adds a dress coat, cord, and a blue tie to your jumpsuit's appearance that I think used to be available from a crate in the old map. As far as I'm aware, HoS and Warden have coat options for when they want to maintain a relatively dignified/fancy appearance, but the only oversuit options available to Officers is the armor and winter coat. We already have berets available, so it'd be nice to have a loadout option for coats as well for officers that like to take a more presentable appearance versus just walking around in body armor all the time and dressing tactical on Code Green.

If it's been removed, then that's pretty much mission accomplished for this complaint. It can be closed. -

I'm not writing an IR because unlike IRs, which are for reasonable characters that act questionably ICly, player complaints seem to be geared more towards fundamentally problematic characters that aren't believable or realistic from the ground up. Ashley Jaeger is completely unstable, to the point of stalking and picking fights with her coworkers basically every shift. And now, if what you say is true and you think she's "fine" as long as she's on her medication, then I can't imagine what she's like when she's off, other than she would not be someone working as a Security Cadet (or having graduated and become a full OFFICER as you are now playing her) in such a high stress environment. She's crazy and she doesn't belong. That's just my IC point of view, there's also the issue of me personally being sick of having to be the target of your repetitive "crazy girl who wants to kill teh unathi" gimmick every time I'm on. -

Blatantly incorrect. Ten times out of ten you follow me out of the spawn room in Sec, stare at me the entire time I gear up, hurry up and grab your stuff and then head out after me. Walk after me until you get the chance to talk, and start muttering in a different language. Silently stand there and stare at me, wait until I say something like "What do you want woman?" And then you fly off the handle with your "CALL ME A FUCKING WOMAN AGAIN AND I'M GOING TO FUCKING GET A WARRANT TO ARREST YOU FOR HARASSMENT". Rinse and repeat until you finally get an excuse to try and get physical. Your character is nonfunctional. If you require medicine for basic functionality, your character should not be working Security. And when she does this on a shiftly basis, her cadetship should be over. Character complaint. Guwan players choose to play guwans. Nonetheless, whenever mistreatment of a guwan goes beyond being rude to them in the halls, they get IRs. Regardless of it being an IC form of complaints, people still have to make the conscious decision that being unreasonably hostile to a guwan is conduct worth discouraging through threat of having their character forcibly changed and possibly fired or unusable. The same goes for misogyny; Unathi in character treat women like property. My response to this could be 'if it's okay to do absolutely nothing but find an excuse to get me arrested because boohoo unathi killed my mom, then i'm going to return the favor and start fucking you over because you're only an object in my culture'. I'm not going to do that though, and we both know why. My character would be utterly destroyed in no time at all through IRs and IC "talking tos" and arrest/firing for harassment if I treated women the way the lore itself says Unathi are supposed to be treating them, and thats most likely why people are too afraid/unwilling to ever actually do it. If I don't get a free pass on that, even though they choose to play women, then you don't get a free pass to do what you do every round, regardless of your made up tragic backstory. -

Two rounds. So you are NOT qualified to speak on how she's been acting around me for days now. -

I do not stalk guwans through the halls. I do not escalate fights with them, nor do I demand their arrest every given opportunity. So your comparison isn't very good. Characters who so much as LOOK at a Guwan the wrong way get punished by IRs from any who so much as witness it. Every single round jmj uses their character's tragic backstory!!! to literally follow me everywhere, picking fights, looking for a reason to fight and get me arrested. I have literally never seen a Guwan treated like this, and if they did, they'd have an IR on them by the end of the round and get kicked out of the job. Did I ask her to stop except for the round where I specifically asked her to stop? Does her excuse of singling me out on a roundly basis because I'm the Unathi she sees when spawning only count for one? You accuse me of being misinformed but here you are just defending your friend while only having witnessed one round of it. -
[Resolved] Character Complaint - jmj99/Ashley Jaeger

A character complaint for someone who has repeatedly and relentlessly singled me out. Biabri, if you were only there for the antag rounds (which you were) then of course it won't make sense. I stated in my post, however, that this is just continued behavior from how she acts every single round, regardless of antag status. Ashley Jaeger WAS Ashley Jaeger those two rounds: following me around and starting shit with me, because of her "lizards killed my mom so they must all pay" backstory. The ONLY difference is that she used her antag status to actually act on her threats, which on it's own wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that she constantly follows me around, threatens me, and tries to get me arrested even when she ISN'T antag. For all intents and purposes, her character WAS the same those two rounds, and that is WHY this is a character complaint. -
BYOND Key: Munks Game ID: bQi-bYP5 and preceding rounds Player Byond Key: JMJ_99 Staff involved: Sleepy_Wolf Reason for complaint: "Unathi killed my mother" gimmick that results in me getting antagonized by this Cadet every single round I encounter her, without fail. Since the first round I had to put up with this character, I've been consistently having to deal with her hostile attitude, stalking me through the halls, and picking fights, goading insults and demanding that I be arrested for harassment and slander if I insult her. This alone doesn't make sense as a character: If this person is so thoroughly traumatized by her ~tragic upbringing~ that she can't handle working with a Unathi without stalking them constantly and trying to raise shit and get them arrested, their cadetship should be over. This culminated in the last two rounds: Before bQi-bYP5, she apparently was an changeling. Immediately once again stalking me through the halls, I manage to lose her and get to play the game for once without having to respond to her. She somehow manages to get another officer on her side, as well as a Vaurca who is following their orders and after gathering lethals they spend the latter portion of the round just wandering around, ignoring every other various antagonistic act around them, dedicated to hunting me down and killing me. They corner me on the escape shuttle, and in the middle of a large crowd of bystanders, all open fire in a failed attempt to kill me. After her failed attempt that round, the next round Jaeger is once again a changeling. After spawning, they as usual follow me through the halls to where I'm keeping watch. While her friend is standing around watching, she transformation stings me into her and then then starts grabbing me, after repeated orders to get away from me I pepper spray her and she feigns death. On the spot, her friend and a nearby officer dogpile me and arrest me for her murder. Thus immediately, not even five minutes into the round, i am hit with an over an HOUR LONG brig sentence (this would longer than the round itself, due to traitor actions) for murdering her despite the fact that she got up moments after. I asked her in LOOC if she was ever planning on getting off my back and she replied that it's not a grudge -- I'm just the first Unathi she sees. So it's an issue with her gimmick, that results in an unrealistically employed character; and an issue with the player itself that they think that "Unathi killed my mom" means it's fine to, every round she's aboard, follow me around, threaten me, and throw a fit and demand my arrest at the slightest provocation. Someone like this would be in therapy, NOT in a cadetship, especially when it's an actual officer she's repeatedly getting hostile with. Tragic backstories are one thing, but when it repeatedly results in me having to spend all round defending myself from her, its more like a metagrudge. I don't play this game just to have to constantly simulate being stalked and attacked by a mentally scarred kid, using every single antag role she gets as an excuse to hunt ME down and kill ME specifically because I'm the first Unathi she ever sees on round start. Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation?: Yes, I ahelped, and Sleepy Wolf responded saying to write a complaint as it was continued conduct spanning multiple rounds. Approximate Date/Time: 4SEP2017, around 2:30pm UTC+1

You, as in the server staff at large, force people to play the way you want them to every single round, every day, every month of every year. Stop using this as an excuse for inaction, honey. Players should be able to suggest to the staff ideas for event rounds if they truly feel that their "cute maido wizard who walks around and acts cute like she's just a normal cute crewmember" wizard gimmick is worth dedicating/wasting an entire round to. Otherwise, antagonists should perform their expected role and antagonize. It makes no sense OOC or IC for a highly secretive and generally hostile faction to send people to the station with gear thats generally out of reach even for high level Nanotrasen personnel just so they can hang out and chat. Antagonists don't exist for you to just be a normal crewmember but with a cool set of armor. Turning yourself in without having done anything needs to go. Being a peace antag and generally not making the round interesting at all for anyone except the little group of friends you decide to interact with needs to go. Extended already has a disproportionately large chance to pop up compared to every other roundtype, antags deciding to essentially force extended by not performing the role they opted for is inexcusable.

The fact that force gloves are dangerous are an argument FOR people other than Security and Science being able to get them. They'd be industrial equipment. Industrial equipment is dangerous. If a Chief Engineer can be wrangled into being attentive enough to keep some sort of accountability and control on them then by all means; but applying some sort of industrial use to them so that non-scientists, non-security, and non-cargo technicians-who-take-the-job-just-to-loot-the-warehouse-of-contraband can get a hold of a pair would be a good thing. Scientists and Security shouldn't be the only two people getting dangerous shit and it makes perfectly good IC sense that Engineers would be able to get an item like this that by all means would drastically improve their job performance (it actually shouldn't have taken a suggested feature for this to be the case).
-
I actually think the "industrial" sectors of the station (engineering and cargo) would benefit greatly from being more open in this sense. We haven't taken nearly as much advantage of the multi-level system as we could have and things just feel unnaturally segmented for a multi-level site.

Adding a psychological check in the Cyborgification Release form.
Munks replied to Dragonspare's topic in Archive
Could it not be established as an alternative to cloning? Building on that, the fact that the player can't be cloned if their brain is put into a cyborg is a gameplay mechanic, not an in-character one. By signing this release to permit cloning after death, it could simply be considered as some sort of "organ donor" permission to release your body for Nanotrasen's use in cyborg manufacturing. If proper procedure entails scanning the corpse beforehand, even if in a meta sense it would be pointless because they wouldn't be able to be cloned, from an in-character perspective it should work and the employee's scan data can simply be considered in holding until the shift ends. -
Every time we have a pylon complaint thread it essentially boils down to people not wanting to have to put any thought into their approach and have to think it through any further than "just run down the hallway and get'em"
-
Lol. No. We made progress getting rid of having two forensics techs or two detectives and actually defining the difference between the two. Let's try not to not only undo that, but make it worse, allowing for Sec to be completely locked out of having real investigative staff just because people wanted to RP with cute fluffies.

First and foremost reason for wanting to play a head of staff: "Everyone else was doing it" And defining trait of the presented character is that he's a fearless vigilante doctor who "doesn't know when to quit" when it comes to self-defense and is willing to fight and shred people with surgical instruments as long as they don't have a gun. Being unwilling to flee or back down (this is generally referred to as fear RP) isn't really a positive trait in a meta sense, especially when there's a significant lack of people who AREN'T stoic fearless heroes

[Accepted] Azande's Head Whitelist Application
Munks replied to Azande's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
If he dislikes signing on to be a Warden (despite the increased pay for his student loans) because he can't stand not being a boots-on-the-ground front liner, why would he go one step further and take up a leadership position as Head of Security? Are you going to be yet another front-lining responds-to-every-call HoS? More importantly he was a HoS before the whitelist was stripped by a ban, so if you went up to a HoP right now and he checked your qualifications, it'd be in character that someone who was once cleared for HoS no longer is. Now he's going to be a HoS again. I doubt this is at all an issue that will get in the way of it being accepted, but could some attempt not be made to work this in and explain why your character has this weird sudden lapse in employment as someone who values believable, high roleplay characters, especially for heads of staff? You said his ideals for NT have at one point even led to a Captain having him assassinated so surely there is something that can be made out of this opportunity instead of just ignoring it. I don't know why I was pinged for this, either. -
[Denied] Awesomeguy002's Head of Staff Application
Munks replied to awesomeguy002's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Two things stand out about you to me as well: Failure to play a realistic character, and RPless powergaming. I've seen or heard plenty about your roleplay, most notably an incident with a cult round yesterday where you knocked down a Security staffmember in the medbay and proceeded to sword him to death/near death, and then turn him into a Construct, all without even saying a single word or RP in the slightest. Given your definition of the concept of roleplay, what story or narrative were you promoting and developing with this crewmember who was silently murdered and Constructed by you without any further interaction? The problem with your HuTAP character especially sticks out to me because I see him the most out of your characters, I think. During a round as forensics Technician as HuTAP, you requested access to Chemistry to work on chems, because "A lot of Forensics Technicians work is working with chemicals so they should know this stuff" (your excuse). A few rounds later, you had HuTAP working as a Quartermaster, and I've seen HuTAP working directly as a Chemist yesterday. I don't know if the requirements are loosened for IPCs due to some "they can just download it" excuse but I'm still not comfortable seeing a single character work as an FT, QM, and Chemist, when those jobs require, respectively: a Criminal Forensics Degree/7 years of experience in law enforcement (plus completed Cadetship now), two years experience in supply/management with completion of NT Introduction to Management course, and a DOCTORATE with a completed 2 years residency course (you seem to believe working as a Forensic Tech is enough to bypass this) -1. I can't say I agree with your self-assessment, nor do I think it would be beneficial to roleplay (or gameplay) to have you as a Head of Security. -
Security lobby lockdown shutters are on a layer above the normal doors, so we can't manually close the doors without using the alt click turf inspect thing. It's annoying. Please move the shutters below the firelock and airlock.

[Admin & DO] Remove i106: Suspicious Conduct
Munks replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Completed Projects
This isn't antagging. This is using your antag roll as a makeshift "event" round. If you feel like events like these are worth wasting an entire antag slot on something that isn't antagonistic in the slightest, you should consider formally suggesting it as an round event. That way, if it's actually worth devoting a round to, it'll receive the protection (and staff collaboration) it deserves. Frankly, I'd be glad if Security actually enforcing space law discouraged people from blowing antag rounds on gimmicks like "sitting in the bar and giving people free contraband". That is all subjective though, feel free to disregard it as you will. Objectively speaking, you admit that in this particular instance, the admins were NOT okay with it and therefore it wasn't a valid application of space law. So why are you using it as an example to have the law amended anyway? -
[Admin & DO] Remove i106: Suspicious Conduct
Munks replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Completed Projects
Antags having to deal with Security is the entire point of Security existing. If the Captain/HoS find the antagonist's presence beneficial and wants Sec to back off, then they have to back off or get in trouble. Once again, this is an RP server. One side of the coin is that antags should RP whatever gimmick they decide to go with, and the other side of that same coin is that Security is supposed to handle them like they're an intruder/suspicious individual on a restricted space station. Its out of character to clip Security's wings and force them to heel for an antag just because they want to be Friendly Ninja/Wizard #219308209. There is no listed exception to "heavy rp" that states "except we're light rp when it comes to antags when they want to be friendly". And if you're getting caught while preparing your antag gimmick, then that still comes with the territory. You're doing something illegal. Sec should then be able to look into it. Stealth better next time. -
Is there a need for Detectives to have Forensics Office access? It defeats the entire purpose of separating the roles if Detectives can walk into the Forensics Office, take forensics gear, and conduct forensics investigations because "Well, I'm already trained in forensics anyway so it's cool."

[Admin & DO] Remove i106: Suspicious Conduct
Munks replied to sonicgotnuked's topic in Completed Projects
It's an RP server. Maybe we should RP handling suspicious persons ICly, instead of immediately running to the admins everytime someone does something wrong. -
This is trying far too hard to bend the third law to make it into some sort of issue. No, none of these are interacting. Recharging isn't interacting with people. Picking up metal is not interacting with someone if they aren't actively using it. Repairing things is not interacting with someone. Being seen is not interacting. Being heard is not interacting. Drone doggy doors exist for a reason, to make it easier to avoid interacting with people (opening one to pull something you need for repairing isn't interacting). Only if you're trying to lawyer the word "interact" to suit your purposes. And it all comes together. You don't care about the technicality of the word interact and how hard you think it is to avoid it, and you're not trying to fix any perceived issue with how drones are now. You want drones to be able to RP with people. It's bad enough that pAI mains insist on constant feature creep because they want their ghost role to be a full fledged class. Can we have a single role that's just a simple entertaining ghost role that people don't decide to main and have turned into it's own full class? If you want to main a maintenance drone, thats your deal, but you should probably accept the fact that they exist for a simple role, they are not a discount 15min respawn, and trying to get them to be able to socialize with people defeats the entire point of the role on pretty much EVERY SERVER it has been implemented.
